SS/Inv Build... Help please. =)
109 views and no replies? =(
Well, I've done some retooling based on some info I've found from other builds and spliced together what I feel will work. Currently, this toon is at lvl 45 and well on her way.
So in my retooling, I'm now softcapped with s/l def with 1 enemy in range. In order to compensate for the end-suck that Maneuvers is, I'm going Cardiac which will actually bring my recovery to par with my /WP brute, which can almost sustain a fight indefinitely without problems. =) The +Res with Cardiac is also quite helpful.
So now I've got my play style down... and these powers are pretty much set in stone now. Especially since I discovered you can negate the defense crash of Rage by stacking it... Which I can currently without using Haste... and I've not even added any recharge set bonuses yet. =)
So here's my current, relatively affordable plan:

...and yes, I do use Unstoppable from time to time. It's helped me out in a few jams. I also already have Demonic Aura, so it's nice having a two-tiered God mode. =) I almost all but solo'd the Treespec AV with Fury + Rage + Dull Pain + Demonic Aura... and towards the end, popped Unstoppable.
But time will tell how much I need Unstoppable with soft capped defenses... But for NOW, the powers are set in stone.
Anybody? Help?

Honestly, I don't think you could get perma-DP without a total rebuild, and at the cost of some defenses. Most obvious way that I can think of would be to go for the Spiritual Alpha and put more emphasis on endurance reduction and recovery (although you already have quite a lot).
Looking at your build (which seemed pretty good already), I thought you were overslotted
- for accuracy ; with just a single Rage, even Punch and Haymaker are at 95% tohit against level 54s (partly thanks to the level shift)
- and for endurance recovery ; even once I removed many of the recovery sets, you still recover 2.8 end per second, and no attack chain that I can make with your powers can drain that much, including Rage/Hasten crashes and all.
With that perspective, I made some tweaks :

Having a second look at it, I think you should really consider the Spiritual Alpha. Quick build and explanations follow.

You would recover 2.53 end per second from recovery, plus, on average, 0.72 from perf shifter procs (3 procs, each giving you 12 end when it procs thanks to your high max end). So let's say 3.25eps on average - a bit optimistic admittedly, sometimes it would be higher and sometimes lower.
Now say you're attacking at full speed, nonstop. The best general purpose attack chain I can make out with your attacks would be Foot Stomp, Haymaker, KO Blow, Haymaker, Punch, repeat. It would be almost gapless and use up a total of 39.272 end in about 9 seconds and a half. That's a 4.13 endurance consumption per second, before recovery.
Your net consumption would be 4.13 - 3.25 = 0.88.
Starting from max end, it would take you 122.77/0.88 = 139 seconds to bottom out, and that's assuming you'd fight nonstop. Let's say 2 minutes (seeing as procs will sometimes not proc as often as you'd want them to). That's still a hefty amount of time when you consider that's fighting standing still, not moving for a second - as soon as you move, like say from one mob to another, you don't attack and recover more end. From my experience with these kinds of net consumption, two minutes from top to bottom is usually fine for anything that isn't AV soloing.
I didn't add Rage crashes, but here's the fun part. Your endurance recovery is so high you would actually recover more end during the crash than what you lost, assuming you don't attack and just taunt.
Based on that I think going with the Spiritual Alpha would really be the smart choice for you here, not to mention it also improves Dull Pain's healing/maxHP and the regen you get from Health.
Hmmm, actually I rather like this. With your modifications, I soft cap E/N with only 5 people around me and I soft cap F/C with 7. I do marginally less damage with the slotting, but only by 3 or 4 points. I'm sure the .5-1 sec faster recharge can quickly negate that problem. =)
I do feel a little uneasy about having ZERO psionic resistance. In your experience, does this really make a difference at all? I don't know what psi attacks come that don't fall under melee/ranged/aoe... but I know there are a few. I suppose 12% resistance isn't much to begin with, but just wondering what your experiences might be with this?
Also, with i20 just around the corner, I'm thinking of going Nerva for my second slot. With the defenses, I get completely soft capped at 5 enemies. =)
Anyhow, thanks for the input, Nihilii. I'd definitely like to hear of you're experience on the 0 psi res thing, though. Thanks again!
Hmmm yeah, I was considering the Spiritual path earlier. I guess it's a toss-up and I've got time to fully slot, unlock alpha and start running TFs to get shards and choose. I think by then I'll have a good idea of how these bonuses affect my choice/play style.
Definitely looking forward to this, though. =)

Psi attacks that ignore positional defense are mostly the mind control and illusion control type. So, Dominate (mostly seen with rikti mesmerists/mentalists), Blind (carnie illusionists). Other than that... Well, nothing else comes to mind, but I could be forgetting things.
I've played with 0% psi res and 15% psi res extensively on my DB/inv scrapper. I won't lie to you, in places where it matters (carnie missions, for example) the difference was rather obvious. I think you have a little leeway with that seeing as you get a fast recharging AoE KD in Foot Stomp and a hold in KO Blow, not to mention Brute perma-DP giving you tremendously high hit points. Your build was pretty good to start with and starting from that, it's hard to have net gains without losing something - but I think psi is rare enough compared to other damage that overall, you'd see a benefit. Matter of fact, I'm going to put my money where my mouth is very soon as I plan to respec into a 3% psi res build (just the global +3% res from the PVP IO) on the aforementioned scrapper, as to focus on other things.

Also, with i20 just around the corner, I'm thinking of going Nerva for my second slot. With the defenses, I get completely soft capped at 5 enemies. |

Hmmm, I suppose I can throw in the Aegis +Psi Res IO in place of one of the existing Aegis IOs... that at least gives me 3% Psi res. Only lowers F/C res by 1%.
Think I'll give that a whirl and see how it goes. I do have Elusive Mind as a backup. =) It'd be nice to have a general all-around AT, though. Soft capping everything (minus Psi) helps, I'm sure.
Okay your defenses are completely overslotted.
Resist Energies is overslotted.
Foot Stomp isn't slotted for enough EndRedux.
You're worrying way WAY too much about psi and not enough about getting your defenses up.
He's a a build that's rather expensive but gives you much better defense overall. Note: You can get buy without the stupid-expensive PVP IO and still have decent defense. This is just a concept build to show you what can be done.

Unless you have massive psi resist already, the 3% Psi unique is a waste of time. It wouldn't diminish incoming damage enough to actually matter.
Hmmm... well I dunno what you're talking about. Our build has better defenses, regeneration, endurance, recharge, etc. Your "Resist Energies" is slotted essentially identical... and I don't have any psychotically expensive PVP IOs...
Not to mention our build has me soft capped for S/L with only one enemy.
Unless you're looking at my first post? Yeah... I've learned a little since then, heh. Do take a look at the more recent builds? Any thoughts?
Yeah... 3% isn't much in the way of resistance... but it's something. And I'd only be sacrificing 1% for F/C resistance...
I've never worked with /Inv, but I did have a SS/ brute at one point, got deleted though. I've been feeling the need for a more "smashy" brute and I already have a Stone, so I figured I'd venture into the old school classic... SS/Inv.
Here's my planned build:
Any suggestions on improvement would be greatly appreciated.
