Quote:I "Feel Your Pain!" I've been unable to play City of Heroes for almost 90 days due to my military duties (extended field training) and then other commitments when I got back from the field. I was on for a couple of hours last night, then I got up at 0600 hrs PST (expecting the standard Thursday maint. time 0400-0600 hrs PST; its now after 1400 hrs PST (or 2:00 PM for civilians) and Still NO JOY!I have to say, im not usually one to complain, but the "server down" updates seemed to have stopped -> http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=270359
Does anyone know whats actually happening?
Thing is (and I know this might sound sad) I deliberately rescheduled my whole week to play CoH today, and its been down all day. Not that I mind that I have been bored senceless with no one about because they've all gone out knowing i'll be playing CoH, BUT I do expect some kinda status update, so at least I know if its worth waiting a bit longer or just ** off out!!

Quote:I hope You stay Whipster, I've been a player since the Beta Test, and I am guessing you have been around almost as long. I want Lots of people to be playing CoH so that the game remains strong (and in business). But Seriously, BASE RENT, that's your biggest complaint about City of Heroes?!? I have bigger complaints than that and I am a Huge Fan of the game! Maybe I am missing something, I am an Alt-aholic, I have more than 12 Toons on every Server (except the former exclusivly Euro servers), and a Base on every server too. I also have toons in other peoples Super Groups, I can not think of anyone having difficulty paying Base Rent? Due to my duties in the US Army there are times I can not log in for a month or more, and still I do not lack for the ability to pay base upkeep even on my "Dusty Servers"; not to mention I do not think that non-VIP Toons will be able to create a Base (or perhaps I am confusing them with the 'Guest Accounts'?).To make it really adventagous for those staying that have held on for along time (in my case over 5.5 yrs) I think you should to take a lesson from the only other online super hero game, give the "VIP" players unlimited free access to new powers archtypes, new game areas and maybe free rent on bases. Things like that would have a lasting effect in keeping long term players like myself ... who, although I love COH, am on the fence whether I stay, or not.

Quote:Although I have no 'Inside Information' (despite having attended both the CoH pannel at PAX 2011 and the meet and greet at Elephant and Castle) I think that StratoNexus has the gist of it. It is my thought that NC Soft/CoX is trying to attract More People to play the game so that they Will BUY PREMIUM MEMBERSHIPS (or VIP or whatever they call it).As a percentage of product, I believe our subscription will be buying us less than it used to. As an absolute amount of product, I believe our subscription will be buying us more.
We will be getting more for our subscription money, but there will be more stuff we can choose to spend yet still more money on.
I discuss the same concept here, with visuals.
I intend to maintain my yearly paid account. It costs me less to play City of Heroes (on a monthly basis) than it would for me to go to a movie and get a drink and a popcorn; I get much more enjoyment from City of Heroes, and more time spent with friends (both online and real life). And no one throws popcorn at Me if we laugh out loud, chat, etc. YMMV! -
I agree with NekoNeko! I really enjoy playing City of Heroes! And I have been waiting for a Pistol Powerset since the Original Beta! (I've spent more time than I ever expected deployed than I ever anticipated; so CoX seems "fresh and new" to Me everytime I come back home!). I will admit to being dazzeled by exciment, and that I tend to play Toons based on my "concepts" and just plain fun, rather than DPS or which AT's are more powerful.
I appreciate the time and consideration so many other players have spent gathering this information and posting it. I do read the forums when I can, and it adds to my enjoyment of the game. Thank you for your contributions! -
I will join with the majority of postings (posters?) and say AWSOME!!!
Although I have many Toons, and use all but one server, I mostly play on Guardian and Victory (and Justice...) As far as I know this compares Very Favorably to any of the other MMO's. More Importantly it will let Me get More Enjoyment Playing City of Heroes! I've been here since the Beta, and hope to keep playing for many more years!
I hate deleteing characters, and have almost never done so. Thus there are many Toons I might have made, but have not yet because of a lack of slots. This will let me make many of the Toons I have wanted too. And over the years, and especially since CoX made the changeover I have been favorably impressed by the direction things have been going.
I am renewing my yearly membership and look foward to having FUN in CoH with your Peep's Toons!
Good Luck, have FUN! -
I would most like to see more than just the Tech and Arcane Themes. As tabs that is to help sort items. (Overlap of some items that fit multiple themes would be desirable).
As for specific items:
Weapons Racks (as seen in some Council missions, or in some Hollows missions, among others).
Computer upon a small "desk" as in the University (Steel Canyon)
Carpet Floors (as in CoV)
Vault Door (as in the Bank Missions) (not the functional one for IO salvage); but just for appearence sake. -
I wish All of my fellow Players to have Fun on the Double XP weekend. However, I will be on duty with the National Guard, as that is our Drill weekend, and we are starting at Noon on Friday! Good Times!

its all worthless in they end, if they dont start making the game fun again, its been worthless for 5 expansions at least, time to focus on making the game fun guys!

Speak for yourself. I joined CoH the day after i5 went Live, and it's only gotten better with every issue, since then. I *love* Oroboros, even though I'm such an altoholic that I have few characters in range to use it. I *love* Inventions. I *love* my Vet Rewards. I *loved* the Second Rikti War, and still love the RWZ (even though I have VERY few characters able to get into it).
Is it perfect? No. But, no game ever will be.

I've been playing CoH since the Beta, and CoV since 2006 when I came back from Iraq. Other than that I can not say it better then Pax did!!!
HUZZAH PAX!!! HUZZAH HUZZAH!!! -

Cooooooool... anyhow, can we get Dual Pistols now, please?
[/ QUOTE ]
OH, yes! Pah-leeeeeease! I have dreamed of this from day 1.

I would prefer a Single Pistol (for Heroes), but any sort of Blaster Pistol Power Set is something I have been waiting for since the Beta!
I would also like to see an option for Energyand Electrical Blasters to have an Energy Pistol/Blaster/Phaser (actually a choice of of them like the Assualt Riffle, etc Power Sets). But that would be a much lower priority than for a PISTOL power set! -

I'm more interested in how this real numbers stuff will affect all those great character builder programs out there like Mids' . Seems like a shame that all that effort on the part of fans being wasted now that the devs have finally caught up to what the players want in this regard.
[/ QUOTE ]
Those programs will still have a utility for a player to "map-out" how they may want to build a character. I have many Vet respecs for my Toons, which will allow me to easily take advantage of the new in game stats. But a friend of mine who has played for less than 6 months uses those programs so that he can avoid excessive respecs.
It will also make thos programs more Accurate. Thus Perhaps more peeps will want to use them (especially non-Alt-a-holics) if they decide to make a new Toon, unlike others they have played (or played recently).
Although I have made only limited use of those programs myself, I have made considerable use of the forums, and the guides and other postings made bythose who DO use them.
My GREATFUL THANKS to All of those who contributed to these character builder and stats programs and forums, as well as to those who shared the knowledge they gained from those programs. Due to my military duties (and deployments) over the years, it has been much easier to read forums and guides than to use those fine interactive programs.
THANKS! again for all of the contributions made!
