  1. It's people like this that make you resent the message board rules. Oh well, there is always the ignore function.

I've just had a thought. Could this thread be a parody, intended to illustarate just how stupid doomsayers really are? If so, it's a bit harsh, some of them have reasoned, intellegent points to make.
  2. I don't think FA needs any further buffing...

    Fire/Mace build

You could always get an IO in there for KB. Or you could slot Kinetic Crash in Jawbreaker for a cheeper option.
  4. Knockback always knocks the target directly away from the point of origin (usually the player). Facing has nothing to do with it. Repel is similar, but moves the target away, rather than throwing it (so it doen't make the target fall down.

Thus, slotted for knockback, Charge would knock the target directly away from your starting position. In this case, however, it could knock the target towards your end position (with a 30 degree spread).

I think you are missing how the power could be used.

Situation 1) a group of melee types vs an AV. Since AVs are the only thing that can ever pose a real threat in this game, its only AV fight performance that matters anyway.

Situation 2) You are an extra tank, or normal tanker stratagies aren't appropiate for the current threat. You can double as an extra defender, you stay within range of the squishy (and don't taunt if your foe has aoes), they don't follow you.

What you aren't going to be doing is trying to defend all the team all the time with GC. It would be situational.

It wouldn't be for somone who is totally wedded to typical tanker playstyle, but then they can always skip the power.
  6. Yes, knockdown is knockback with a mag less than 1.0. You could theoretically slot Shield Charge to do knockback if you wished.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
how is that any different from the version we have now (in beta )?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The version currently in beta, if WAI, will target all mobs along the line of charge, not just a few random ones. It will also knock them in the same direction.
  8. I suggest you try what I suggest and see for yourself. Yes, I have tried it.

    Explanation:

    1) Auras tick every 0.5 seconds. At the fast movment speeds in CoH you travel quite a distance in that time, so only a small fraction of the mobs you pass are actually effected.

    2) Because you are moving, you have no control over your position relative to the mob when the aura ticks, so the mobs are knocked in essentialy random directions. this produces a high level of scatter, which is not only a nucience for your aura, it makes it hard to keep them all taunted, and will really really tick off anyone with AoEs.

    3) You still can't actually knock a mob out of your way. You either have to stear round them or stop and wait for the power to tick. Most games which have powers like the one you describe don't have collision detection between players and mobs.

The more I think about this, the more I think the radii on PF and Grant Cover have been transposed.

With a 15'radius, PF has a good chance of including several team members, and brings the set's defense (when teamed) in line with Ice. With an 8' radius, GF is not only more believable, it also imposes a physical limit on how uber shield superteams can get, and encorages a realistic sholder to sholder fighting style on such teams.
  10. Having a huge damage aura wouldn't be much use on a melee AT if you repeled the mobs.

Repel actualy does KB, not repel anyway, as does Whirlwind (speed pool), and Repulsion (stalker energy aura).

Given the popularity of these powers, a charge power with a similar effect would be a recipe for a powerset hated by everyone.

a villainess who came on to me as I was kicking her head in

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's got to be Silver Mantis. I don't know any other villainesses who are like that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, A lot of this stuff sounds like Dark Watcher's arc.
  12. Just take Superspeed and Repel/Repulsion, and charge into the middle of a big spawn (which will neatly demonstrate how rubbish this would be in the CoX engine).

With the toggle changes, it doesn't matter so much if your mez protection is down a few seconds. My intuition tells me that they will make click mez protection powers clickable while mezzed.

It says in the description of OwtS that it's recharge cannot be buffed in any way.

    Check the text.

    i13 Changes?

there are major changes to buffs to. Don't know any details, but I wouldn't count you Boost Ranges before they are hatched.

One thing to note, I think the numbers on the US tanker boards are based on the brute figures, with the tanker multiplier applied, rather than the actual tanker figures, which could be different.

    For example, someone says:

    [ QUOTE ]
Took a look at the tank set and brute set on test and noticed that the description of Grant Cover is different for each. The brute version includes a note that the power does not affect yourself, while the tank version does not. What that means exactly I don't know, but it's at least possible Grant Cover does provide a benefit to oneself for tanks, which puts a very different spin on the numbers

    [/ QUOTE ]

If this where true, defense jumps from weak to godly.
  17. Your way wouldn't work with this game engine. For one thing, the speed limit means you character can't really move through the intervening space between final and initial position. For another, evel if you could the KB aura couldn't tick fast enough to produce the desired effect.
  18. You can see how it works from the real numbers data in the screen shot.

You target the ground. 30 degree 60' long cone attack is generated, targeting your target. You are then teleported to the target.

Phalanx Fighting, either a) Increase it's radius to 15', or b) double the buff (2%) and halve the max targets (4). Oh, and add in some more defense debuff resistance, this set needs more.

Overall, it's defensively weak, but offensively strong.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Then lo and behold - you can save/load costumes. Well, we're halfway there. You've got to love the devs for being ahead of the curve

    [/ QUOTE ]

The are all the way there, in terms of technology - off line character creator already exists.

The barriers to releasing one are purely legal/finacial.

You only get a buff from team mates, and the only way you would get 7 teammates within 8' is to form a rugby scrum. Typically, you would be able to keep 1 or 2 within the aoe at most, which makes this power worse than Combat Jumping.

That particular power sucks, but wouldn't it be more useful to post the whole set (with tanker numbers) for discusion here?

Best way to deal with the next Rikti invasion - get all the shield Heroes to line up and then charge

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just read on the US boards that if castle cant sort out the damage problem of of the shield charge attack it might get changed hope not, thats the one power thats sold the set to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, it's bound to be a burger to get the timing right, with having to fire the cone knockdown, then move the player to the target location, and have the knockdown effect co-inside with the movement. All this with variable amounts of latency.

Another quirk that might be causing problems with this, is you could charge 2 feet, and still knock down someone 60 feet away.
  24. PRAF68_EU

    I13 screenies!

As I said, earlier, the CoH must be made from "some sci-fi metal" (or equivelent), since they will stop bullets, flamethrowers, explosions, energy beams etc. I don't know anything from "the human past" that can do that.

    [ QUOTE ]
would fit better with a super heroe mmo.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The main characteristic of superhero comics is they are the broadest genre imaginable. Crime, spies, Science Fiction, both hard and soft, Fantasy, Horror. You don't have to look far to find comic book stories based on all of these, and many more to.

Ergo, anything is fair game for inclusion.

If you don't like Shields, remember they where included because they got the most votes in the poll that was held. That's democracy for you, you don't always get what you want.
