  1. I'm not talking about NCSoft in the EU, I'm talking about the whole of NCSoftWest.

If NCSoft is going down the tubes they aint going to be worried about server populations.

    [/ QUOTE ]
True - but I would have thought that they would be if they weren't going down the tubes.

Seriously: Are you reading the signs and portents as pointing to NCSoft going down the tubes?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't like to talk things down, as it tends to make them worse, but in this case, yes.

I'm in the "recession, what recession, it's mostly made up by the media" bandwagon myself, as I have yet to be affected in any way shape or form.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm very affected by it, it exists. What has happened is that what was an economic downturn has been (to some extent) made worse by fear mongering by alot of media unneccesarily affecting individuals' (and to a lesser extent, companies') spending habits.

But we are definately in a recession, whether you have experienced it or not (not sure why you would as a teacher).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree completly. the recession exist, but has been made much worse by all the media DOOOOOM saying.

But from my personal position, I (and my circle) are unaffected.

It's a "cheap" form of entertainment that charges you monthly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And gym membership is an expensive form of entertainment that charges you monthy.

Going drinking, eating out, going to the cinema etc are leikely to cost you weekly.

    [ QUOTE ]
See, people are generally cutting down on the cheaper things to afford the luxuries.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not in my experience, but I guess we just know different people.

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm definitely on the "recession will be over by 2010" optimism bandwagon

    DEMON FARM

It's in his carnie arc. You have to kill a bunch of demons (actually pratoreans) to empower a magic item, or some such guff.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Added to the people who have had to stop playing due to the recession. Some people seem to see saving the world as a luxury

    [/ QUOTE ]

Compared to many leasure activited (e.g. gym membership) MMOs are cheep. the recession could gain as many as it looses (explains returning players?).
  8. A couple of other things to consider.

I think we are mostly agreed that the plug was pulled on TR rather prematurely. It might never have recovered it's development costs, but it should have been able to turn a small operating profit.

The only reason I can see for axing it so suddenly is if the company desperatly needed to liquify assets to pay creditors.

Also, thier have been no posts (on anything) by deveropers/community staff on the US forums since the news broke. My inference is they are uncertain about thier own jobs.

Posi and Castle would have done a lot better to listen to the experienced players feedback way back into closed beta

    [/ QUOTE ]

The had no choice. It was a case of make changes or be sacked. There are no changes that could have been made to PvP that would have made it good/popular.

The ony "Win" situtation for PvP would have been to leave it alone, and they simply where not given that option.

the truth of the matter is u wont see the full nature of i13's demise until the q1 fy 2009 is realease as i13 was only realeased on the 2nd of dec

    [/ QUOTE ]
I didn't realise PvP'ers made up that substantial portion of the playerbase?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Probably not but but if you lose a portion of players who lets face it ran most of the farms so they could get there latest pvp toon up. Plus the majority of pvp players had more than 1 account (1 I know had 5). So you may hanve a limited number of players leave but you could say between 2 times or 3 times that number of accounts. So if you say PvPers them selves are only 5% of the population, but infact could hold 10% of the accounts (just an example as no real way of knowing the exact number), But this is realy just the tip of the iceberg as PvPer's have friends who don't class them selves as PvPer's but team with members of that community. Who see friends leave then decide it's time to go and so on. If a clearly dedicated bunch as the PvPer's were decide to leave then the knock on effect isn't just felt with in that groupe.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I would still be incredibly surprised if those that did unsubscribe totalled any significant numbers.

The fact that they implemented such sweeping changes to get more people to PvP tells us just how relatively small the dedicated PvP population is/was.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The thing with the PvP changes, is its pretty clear that they wheren't Positron's idea, or Castle's idea.

NCSoft top managment looked at the figures for CoX, saw that PvP only nade up a small proportion of the player base, and , being entirely mired in the mentality of the Korean market, said "Oh look, CoX PvP must be broken. NorCal, you better fix that, as it is bound to increase subscribers by 30%". So Positron and Castle where forced to make changes in an attempt to fix the utterly unfixable. And if something is unfixable, then any changes will inevitably make it worse.
  11. If you want wild speculation:

this could just be a restructuring of an unproffitable branch office.

But it could also be the frantic efforts of a business about to go under to stave off liquidation.

Which would mean no more CoX anywhere, no more GW, no Western Aeon etc...
  12. The EU servers aren't in Brighton though, they are in Germany.

    Power Boost

    Arg, wrong thread!

    And yes, I was exemplared.
  14. The trouble with Flash is it also requires you to run into the middle of the spawn, causing you to die before the animation finished.

    EMP Arrow >> Flash

Does this bug also apply to the purple pet set?

I thought my Photon Seekers where a bit weak in the damage department when I dusted off my PB the other day.
  16. I think the US players would just like to have us on thier servers/forums.
  17. Large North American Mustelid
  18. Crab spiders look like that anyway, the don't need the rifle powers as well.
  19. I guess the point is the end battle is balanced around the set team size, so there would be little point in having the rest of the TF scale to a small team if the end battle is going to be impossible.
  20. It shouldn't be a problem really, most of the rifle powers have crab equivelents.
  21. The hero/villain mission changes in issue 12 should make it a lot easier to turn Ouroboros into a shared zone, which would make "rise of the Council" co op.
  22. The crab powers all use the backpack, which has no redraw.

However, if you choose any of the wolf spider rifle powers, you pull out a rifle, which has redraw.

That's why there are two versions of Venom Grenade, one uses the crab arms and the other uses teh rifle.

That you can't create your own character , I am pretty sure you pick a famous hero or villain and play as them but just lvl them up

    ITBL.

There is already a discussion thread for CO in the off topic forum.

Oh, and I heared Bioware is developing a MMO called SW:TOR

I got told ( not saying it is true) if over 95% of us leave for TOR then all other MMOs in the universe might stop running.
