I just dont have like 4-8 accounts to make money or I wont spend money on that many accounts. PVP builds use be around 1 to 1.5 billions now there like 2-3 billions .. on certain toons. Yes you can earn them... like the blue fuzz ball said.. but PVE is boring.. I mean tell how many times have you done the same task force or mission?
    PvE boring??? Gahh!!!!
Well, everyone plays this game for different reasons of course. We all know you love to play to compete against others, which is perfectly fine. I love to play with others and to challenge my toonz in that setting. Just picked up the 3 "Masters" in the last two weekends, and we had a HELLA FUN time! Also ran an LGTF w/ basically 2 defenders, a blaster, a corruptor, and a controller, w/ a tank that had severe connection problems. THAT was ridiculous fun.... going back to purples, ive picked up 4 purples and a Respec, and a few Posi's and LoTG's recipe in the two weekends ive played. Not too bad for regular play.... unfortunately all the purps were some sort of "Chance for" lol. No big bucks.

Ive got a pair of inactive toonz which have each 5 near full set of purples (like 25), that costed 1bill each back in the day. They should be near 5bill now each - considering of stripping and selling them lol..... like GOLD!

back to the OP - for once i kind of agree w/ that lovely little nublet Elf, hahah. I think the Purples are WAY OVERPRICED for what they really are. So they are a bit better than the top-tier IO's, doesnt mean they should be 10x more expensive! Devs shouldnt rely on farmers to drop down that price. Regular players just dont loot them enuf.

I vote for random "possible" reward purple roll on a "Masters" TF or Trial (a new MTrial :P). You could say 1 or 2 purples given to a team of 8 (thus not guaranteeing a farmer to get a purple in the end unless he's got the whole friggin team rigged). And at least a "Masters" gives it a reasonably high difficulty that not all will be able to do or accomplish on a regularity.

hope to god! Ever since the post-AE era, prices just sky-rocketed as the farmers moved to AE and not their usual farms. Because of that, less farmers had been looting purples, thus driving their prices up. Hopefully with the changes, the prices will change too...

To upgrade my mains, i need 3 sets of purples each. Now the damage sets are hitting for 1billion each at this rate! THAT is ridiculous.....
  5. To the OP - im not sure the validity of your point or your actions.... considering you already know the answer. And i dont think peeps that bored, unless they're looking to be a dedicated healer....
And if you dont know the answer or need proof - just ask one who is, for pete's sake (not me).....

Until around level 16. Then you'll notice your teams health dipping less and less (as their defenses increase)
Thats where buffing comes into play.

    Back on topic.
It's a sad fact that big green numbers get recognized quicker than anything by most players.
I never recieved a single compliment on any other toon. Whenever I team with my Empath, even if I don't use a single heal the entire mission, inevitably someone will say "Great heals!" at some point.

I think it's a holdover from the 'other' games where healing is a fundamental mindset.

Once, I was on my blaster, the tank died mid battle, the mob started to spread out to the rest of the team. I decided to sacrifice myself to save the rest so I dove in and used a damage aura, then ran around the corner and let them kill me. Buying the tank time to rez.
Not a single comment. In fact I was accused of playing recklessly.

I then jumped on my empath and accepted an invite from the same team. They didn't realize it was me though, They'd picked up a second tank in the mean time. Half way thru the mission and I'm getting bored, not a single health bar is moving. Fort's on the blasters and RA's charging. I realize, with 2 tanks I'm only using my attacks. Then it happens. We clear the mission and zone out, as we're waiting for the next mission the chorus of "Amazing job with the heals" and "You rock Capt.!!"
    start appearing in chat.

    I'm like, ummm what heals?

Just the simple fact that you can heal makes the team 'think' it's invincible. Even if you don't ever use them, even if you have 2 tanks soaking up all the aggro. Players are going to thank you for being an awesome healer.

I can really only recall one occasion where I felt I deserved the praise. This was on an 8 man invincible team with no tank, 4 blasters and a 3 scrappers. It was the most work I've done in game. ONly time I've put the Aura on Auto. I was firing off heals on everyone constantly. Killed myself twice with absorb pain and somehow managed to keep everyone alive.
Felt like I'd earned a medal for that one.
Oddly enough, that team didn't really say anything other than "That was rough"

    Go figure.
This quote goes far and true to what is hoped to be proven. If the point is to find out if "praise" is rewarded fairly or correctly, here is good proof. But honestly, who cares if it is or not! Lets keep it real lol. Its awsome for the fact that an AT gets praise from a team in the first place. And EVEN if you knew you didnt do much in your roll towards their survivability and they praise you, speaks to the fact that they simply appreciate your presence there and ensuring their safety. Im not really sure whats wrong with that. I can think of MANY AT's that RARELY get praise, if ever at all!

Its best not to second-guess our teammates intentions, when it was only positive in the first place....
  6. ok, maybe can Vigilance and do something else more useful....

how about when a teammate or yourself is getting to a low HP point, a select few of your primary powers are powered up for a certain amount of time? Like either your Healing, Buffing, Debuffing powers? Kind of like a weaker, longer-lasting version of PBU?

    what you think of that?

i'll have to agree AND disagree w/ you :P

in highlvl TFs (ie - STF, MSTFs, ITFs, LGTFs), generally you're gonna want a strong/assertive leader who knows whats up, what they want out of the team, and care enough to do what it takes in order to find success as a team. No, its not a fun or even likeable position, but someone needs to do it, and im one of them. Otherwise, lower lvl TFs and pug missions usually do well enuf w/ a more passive/complacent leader.

  15. on my bowphire's i used it to sneak in the stun purple set, but this set was very tight and OG was just a stepping stone to bigger powers and not really a part of the big plan, but is a bit of icing on the cake. Have it on many toonz, its an extremely low maintenance toggle, so i just put in one ACC IO in it. My set bonus accuracy carries it plenty far enuf and does very well for just a 1slot power. The end use of OG is VERY MINIMAL, so never bother to put end in it. OG will keep a minion perma-stun'd w/o enhancement, as long as it lands successfully on each chance....

If you want to make the most out of it, emphasize ACC & Stun, and stack in IO's accordingly.....

On another tangent, someone on an SG forum was wanting a good match with MA. MA emphasizes control thru stuns(thats the strength of MA), Dark Armor's OG is an awsome stun stacker with that. Potentially, one MA/DA can perma-stun a boss out by themselves using OG & Cobra Strike stacked, or a few other of their stun-proc'ing attacks w/ OG. MA/DA ends up being a force multiplier w/ this control ability, besides their damage output..... thats how an MA will shine - cant compete w/ BS burst damage
  16. hmmm, well preferred a person to do the job that they're expected to do, as a teammate. Your soloist dynamics drastically change when you're teaming w/ others.... now you're not quite playing just for yourself, but voluntarily w/ others, having a goal greater than an individuals'.

armchair quarterbacking is pretty useless at this juncture, and at least from your observations you took the right course of action considering the team dynamics....

its good to have access to different builds. but if you plan to team w/ peeps, having a team-centric build should be your priority. If the TL (teamleader) was a bit more hardcore and more tighter grip on their team, they may have kicked you off. I know when i organize TF's, i expect those who voluntarily commit to be fully prepared and fully able to offer their powers and resources to the team to ensure success.

i know peeps are throwing their nice sense of idealisms around, and in the end, its our game, your character. But when you start playing with others, that whole thing changes.
    Success doesnt always equates fun.....
and fun doesnt always equates success....
  17. yup, the OG mags will stack and you can keep a boss perma-stunned as long as he stays in both fields and they land successful hits....

currently working on a new video featuring the IcePHIRE's, Cold/Ice/Dark Defs... it'll also show some live video working the command center (since some refute that the speed and way i play isnt possible when they team w/ me), but mostly showing defenders kicking it harder than any two other AT's can possibly do....

This was my second IO build and its ok. Seems like you gain more experience when making builds. My 3rd and current build (IcePHIRE's) are immaculate... i think. My first build was the BowPHIREs which i cramfested 5 purple sets (cuz i didnt know any better) and seems rather ineffecient for the inf put in them....

I still wouldn't recommend it, though.
true that, and that shows how diversified Cold is....
as a Cold Defender, you will fall under the "shielding" class, and is your selling point to a team. If you didnt have your selling point, im not sure what you could say to your team to validate you being there as a contributor at the first place.... a weak blaster and a bit of control/debuff?
  23. wow and wow...
    this thread gets too wordy!
I appreciate the OP's pov but its a bit melodramatic... but whatever it takes to get more attention to the devs i hope... though it aint gonna happen.

I sure does seem like others are encroaching over the Defender's area and we're literally getting overshadowed. IMO, i think they need to amp up the def's primary mags, to get them to shine clearly over the controllers in that dept. I mean, Defs were not meant for serious damage, right? Im sure some would like to argue that, but isnt that is why we're called Defenders in the first place?

So, magnify up with what we're suppose to do good, and that'll help the "average" defender to shine forward as a "support" choice. Peeps complaining that we're the slowest AT to solo. Refer to the previous paragraph plz. Or get a bit smarter and ensure you have a -Resist power if you have strong solo tendencies. Otherwise, its just a bunch of the same cheeseheads who keep doing the same whining about how they cant have their cake and eat it too for the past 5 yrs.

Well, i found that you can, a couple yrs ago. Run 2 defenders together!!! (PS - just finished with a monster IO build and gonna post a video that'll blow peeps minds about def's offensive/defensive capabilities...)
  24. /e applause OP

the peeps that moan the most about purps are the ones just farming for them to sell them...

on the otherhand, purp sets arent always the greatest to aim for because of price or availability, and the funny thing you could probably get almost the same out of another set that would cost a tenth of the purple set.

My first big IO attempt, i went purple crazy and put 5 purple sets of 5 in each defender. Luckily, that was pre-AE, so they were still at a reasonable price and the farmers were doing their standard farms, so there were plenty. Ended up being 1bill per defender.

But because of the inflated prices, even 1 purple set was out of the question. The funny thing i pieced together a ridiculous IO build w/o even 1 purple, and got ALL the unique goodies that could be grabbed. This build cost me 1.5 bill per def, prob 750 - 1bill back in the day. Trying to fit in the purps i wanted would have upped it to 2.5-3 bill per def in current days cost, and thats just stupid.

Though the powersets are different between the builds, the current toonz are much more solid and better quality than the ones w/ purple sets in them....

Yeah, these dead hookers are really starting to pile up. Why won't you let me put them in the Vault? Ted Kennedy did it? Why can't I?
