1. Right. Each NPC is considered one model, while a player character (PC) is made up of several models. That's why, when you hit a highly populated area like a market or Atlas Park, there's typically a large lag spike as the client loads up costume pieces. Now imagine the same thing with a level of 200 enemies composed of all player character bits. You'd hit a lag spike every time more enemies would need to be rendered. Rooms full of many enemies made in such a fashion would be akin to a pre-I10 Hamidon Raid.

So customization is great for a handful of key NPCs in a mission, but would be murder for every single NPC in a mission.

Edit: thinking about boss customization, if I wanted to make a Sky Raider boss, he'd need a jet pack. I wonder if Jay et al finally figured out a way to do that for player-created models (without slider-induced clipping), and if player characters will finally get some backpacks for themselves...

you wouldn't reskin each enemy in the map individually. Likely you'd have a custom minion, ltnt, boss and one special EB or AV if you want. Possibly more than one EB/AV but that's not guaranteed. So really only 4 costumes to load

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, but you'd need to load it for every minion LT and boss. Which is the same net effect.

[/ QUOTE ]
The effect possibly being a substantial increase in lag, especially depending on how many enemies are spawned.
3. [ QUOTE ]
Very disappointed at the lack of reskinning/changing factions. One thing I really wanted was the freedom to add new and very different groups, to avoid stepping on dev toes and their canon.

Meh.

[/ QUOTE ]
You imply that the devs haven't allowed us to do such a thing over fear of what the players would do with such a tool, when it's almost certainly a limitation of tech. I'm certain reskinning NPC models isn't like throwing a costume on a player character.

Forget Merits (not really) - I'm just glad the bloody chat is fixed. Hard to socialize on an MMO when you can't get a message through Thanks for the patch!

I made one character who used Atlas Park/Ms. Liberty as his starting point; everyone else starts in Galaxy City because I greatly dislike having to deal with much of the antics that other players do when they have an "audience". I am glad that they are "ignoring" Galaxy City in this way and I hope that they continue to keep Galaxy City in their "blind spot" so that those players who appreciate a less-traveled zone can still have one to start.

Galaxy City - "Get off my lawn!"

Meh, I've had this debate before, and would rather not further threadjack this thread with my thoughts on the subject. Carry on.

I just realized...

Another player facility in AP? Shall Galaxy City never receive some city planner love?

Like the arena?

(It may be a pretty useless facility, but it does look nice.)

[/ QUOTE ]
That's pretty much it for GC - nothing new since I5.

GC:
<ul type="square">[*] Arena
AP:
<ul type="square">[*]WW[*] Vault Reserve[*] Vanguard DPO[*] Ouroboros exit[*] RV[*] Architect Entertainment (I14)
I can see that the arena balances everything out

I just realized...

Another player facility in AP? Shall Galaxy City never receive some city planner love?
9. I reread the article, and Aeon is funding Architect (the dummy corp) with Crey funds. So although Crey is helping to fund it, it seems as if vested control is with Aeon. However, Architect Entertainment would have no official ties to Aeon, allowing them to set up shop anywhere.

I wonder if the Vault Reserve is operated in a similar fashion by a benefactor in the shadows?
10. &lt;QR&gt; I like this addition to the web content. The MA write-up was especially interesting.

One thing in which I am curious is how Aeon will get his devices into Paragon City. What will probably happen is that Aeon Industries and Crey Industries will use a dummy corporation to plant them throughout the city and isles. Obviously, the note by Positron at the end indicates that they will allow it within the city, despite knowing the truth behind this new business, because it can be a useful tool for heroes, but will keep an extremely watchful eye on the whole thing. Villains have stolen tech from heroes and enemies, so it's unsurprising for heroes to "re-purpose" technology for their means as well, similar to War Walls and the medical TP system
11. I also was under the impression that the Spring Fling was going to be separate from the V-Day event. Is this just a rename for politically correct purposes?

(No problem if there isnt)

It does look that way. I'm not exactly disappointed, but I'm a little surprised. The Halloween and Winter events both got significant upgrades. Maybe there is a surprise in store for us?

14. Posi,

Thanks a ton for this post and the others, a sudden deluge of info as it were. Understandable that there are still cards in sleeves, etc. Can't wait to see what's on the other end of that dangling line you've thrown out for us

No offense BaB's i know its not your fualt but you need to tell the "Man" you guys need to slow it down and fix things that are broken before jumping 10 issues ahead of whats currently on live.

[/ QUOTE ]
Slow down? With Champions Online slated for "Spring 2009", and DCUO slated for release before the end of the year, what should the production schedule be?

Also, aren't "compare &amp; contrast" threads disallowed?

[/ QUOTE ]
Wasnt really compareing and contrasting was just showing that this(Current schedule) will only drive the current player base into a rage as has been shown treuout history when major changes are made without any reasoning behind said change SoE was mentioned because they are the best example of what not to do for an MMO. And they do need to slow down SPECIALLY with CO coming out and DCUO in the works a more stable game is much better then a game full of stuff that hardly works(Looks at SOE again).

[/ QUOTE ]
I will argue that players who go into a rage over an MMO really need to find another outlet.

I will also point out that comparing a Live product to products that are still in beta testing (or have yet to start) is hardly equivalent. How many bugs will CO or DCUO have when they are launched? What bugs will be critical enough to postpone release, and which will be released at launch as Known Issues to be fixed later? One can only speculate at the stability of either of these hitherto-nonexistent products yet.

And by what are you comparing CoX to SOE products? I cannot follow your logic. Are you attempting to compare minor game bugs to NGE? If so, IMO, the bugs and changes mentioned earlier in this thread pale in comparison. It's like comparing a missing lugnut to a transmission replacement, in an automotive sense.

18. Day Job icons are appearing randomly through my travels in the City or Isles.

/e reading emote no longer works.

Emotes in Dwarf form don't work at all (should have tried my Stone tank also).

OTOH, was text coloration fixed? It's working on some characters, but sill not working on others. Might have to check the one odd character...

City Traveler Badge: Hit the ground runningÂ… this badge unlocks access to the following Power Pools at level 6, so players can access Tier 1, 2, or 3 powers early on.

That doesn't make any sense... all power pools unlock at level 6. Do they unlock at another level, or have you dispensed with prerequisite powers for travel powers?

Well the post says Tier 1, 2, or 3, so I assume that you can go straight to Fly without Hover or Air Superiority, for example. But some clarification would be cool
