I just think it's funny. Right now everyone's saying "It's so small" and "WTH." In a few months they'll be drooling over whatever comes next, and a few months after that they'll be gnashing their teeth about something that gets changed.

The fickle masses are impossible to please. I'm surprised the game still makes a profit with such a "dedicated" player base. If I were a dev I probably would have said "f*** it" by now

  7. Yeah, I'm not using Compatibility Mode on my client, and it works like clockwork.
  8. Or on Ubuntu for that matter. Little WINE goes a long way

There are some concerns at his house that playing City of Heros will ruin their computer and/or make them accessible to a computer virus.

To be frank, this sounds like a remark from someone generally uneducated in computers or the Internet, like my mother when we got our first computer. When it broke, she blamed my video games. The real culprit? A physical disk crash

Anywho, my mother's much more educated in computers these days (she even set up her own wireless router), but the fact of the matter is that the game client only communicates with the game servers. I've also been playing subscription MMOs for years and have never contracted any computer viruses from the games I've played. It can also be safely played with the computer's firewall program active, and will not lessen any security features in order to gain access to the game server.

The only detrimental the game could do to "ruin their computer" is use up hard disk space But as long as the computer has ~3GB available, it will be fine.
  10. One other thought: I assume you installed the Dell software to get the system as close to your previous XP or Vista build, but did you download and install the mobo drivers as well? If not, it could cause problems with DMAs or IRCs, cause your built-in Ethernet not to function to specs, etc.
  11. I wonder if this is a memeroy issue. You have 2GB, which is good, but I see a lot of extra programs running, like Roxio, EA Core, PowerDVD, Dell Support software, and other things running in the background that don't need to start up every time you run your computer. The OS itself requires 1GB to operate, AFAIR.

Noticeably missing, AFAICT, is any sort of AV solution. Do you have any anti-virus on your computer? If not, at least download and install AVG Free Version. I'm using that right now with my testing with no issues so far.

When you run the Task Manager (CTRL+Shift+ESC) and start CoH, what happens with the CPU and memory usage? I'd be curious to see the results myself.

Also, would it be possible to run dxdiag and print that report as well?

Ironically, it's still better content than 90% of MA content

I could go to sleep on my keyboard and write better content than 90% of whats in MA

And yet, that stuff still gets 5 stars

I'll just be thankful for what I get, instead of playing Oliver Twist.

So what you're saying is that instead of expecting the devs to live up to the same expectations they've established for 14 issues, you'll subscribe instead to the "whatever you want to give us is what we deserve" school of thinking? Sorry, I don't go there.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think what I'm trying to say (and I'm pretty sure it's what I'm trying to say, since I'm me ) is that I have realistic expectations given the current development schedule that has been announced.
  15. I haven't parsed your CoH Helper data, but I've been running the RC since Saturday and haven't experienced the problem you report (except I'm using the 64-bit version). Ran a whole Manti TF on Saturday without issue. So it has to be something specific with your setup. I'll try taking a look at your report, but maybe one of the regulars can also lend a hand?

Is this what people do now, complain on free stuff? I think someone hasn't worn the shoes of an Analyst or a Developer.

    Now?

This has been going on for years
  17. On the contrary. It's definitely a small Issue. But after I14, and all the changes needed in its wake, and in addition to the man hours supposedly being spent on the new expansion and beyond, I'm unsurprised. I'll just be thankful for what I get, instead of playing Oliver Twist.
  18. Aw, there there. This came on the heels of Issue 14, was supposed to be released earlier (but delayed thanks to MA changes), and precedes Issue 16 (which will probably be the expansion). Frankly I'm surprised people were expecting more for something that is crammed in between two big releases.
  19. Pets that have a fixed lifespan persist until their duration expires. Pets that have an unlimited lifespan only persist until the owner is defeated. Both kinds cease to persist if the owner leaves the map or zone.

Speaking complete out of my [censored] (mostly because I can't remember the details of each issue), I do think it is risky when an issue revolves around one big feature and very little else. When someone just isn't into the big feature, it makes the issue seem pretty thin.

No need to apologize, one can simply vote with an account
