Hey, as long as the shopkeep is at least attempting to explain the themes of a game or their ratings, then they're doing their diligence. Obviously some people will still be as dumb as a box of rocks; there's not much we can do about those people, and only so many ways one can say the same thing multiple ways without drawing pictures or stick figures.
  2. Ack FFM, I feel for you and all other European players.

The same things happen in the states from time to time. In the 1980s, politicians wanted to blame rock music for bad behaviour of youths. Now, violent video games are the new scapegoat for another generation of politicians who don't understand video game culture and, often times, demonize it.

In my opinion, which is undoubtedly shared by others, politicians are going after a symptom instead of the cause. When Columbine happened here in the states, in addition to music Marylin Manson, KMFDM, and Rammstein, games like Doom were also blamed as influencing factors. However, troubled people will always find inspiration from a multitude of sources, If we didn't have music or video games, what's to stop anyone from being inspired by classic literature like Machiavelli or Sun Tzu? Should society return to burning "unfavorable" books as well? Or should we instead treat the people instead of looking for another scapegoat? Although Michael Moore is far from my favorite documentarian, there are several gems in his "Bowling for Columbine" film.

Obviously, I share your concern and hope that German politicians can overcome their "rectal cranial inversion" and realize that banning so-called "violent video games" will not solve bigger social problems, such as proper parenting, the value of morals, and so forth.

Additionally, they should also realize that placing such a ban would hurt Europe's economy in these stressful economic times, driving business out of Germany, forcing companies to relocate, increasing the bottom line due to costs of relocation and rehiring, etc.

It's the wrong move to make for so many different reasons. Instead, game shops should be made to more strictly enforce the ratings on games (and not sell Mature games to minors) while increasing parental awareness of ratings; and ultimately, making parents more responsible for the actions of their children until the age of emancipation.

Castle would disagree. Unfortuantely, his post on the subject has been purged from the forums.

Edit: NM, here is Castle's affirmation of Memphis_Bill's copy & paste on this very subject.

None of the other old developers aren't banned (Like Geko). I also notice Cricket is banned too.

Seems kind of funny but not really sure why that was done. I wonder what he thinks when he visits the forums?
All the past inactive rednames were imported as Banned, including CuppaJo. It's probably just the default title for accounts that were locked for any number of reasons, including leaving the company on amicable terms. Cuppa's title was customized right after the migration because her account authored many still-stickied posts. Jack's probably got overlooked because you don't see his posts except when one searches by poster name.

You're attributing something malicious to an automated process.

OTOH, they may not have changed it to a custom title out of other reasons. But in any case, it's floccinaucinihilipilification.

Happens to the best of us. It's a big read with a lot to digest.

    Bye Bye Bridging

Exactly - you'll only need a team leader or mission holder at lvl 36+, and everyone else falls into suit.
  9. You would think that Arachnos engineers would have a modular neural interface and mounting points for those claws, not only to facilitate repair and replacement, but also so that soldiers could, you know, sleep at night on their backs

But alas, Lord Recluse's deprivations know no ends, including the welfare of his troops. Darwinism and all that.

(The only thing keeping me from trying a Huntsman build on my Crab are those Crab legs).

I'm in. As a gargoyle, going pantsless is second nature. Just throw me a date and time, as I've been vacationing in the Capital Wasteland lately.

    Bye Bye Bridging

I'm curious to see how this new system will work, but certainly cautiously optimistic. On paper, it sounds good. Now I'll just have to see how it works in practice.
  12. Yes, that's how it works. Wouldn't even matter if your Crab build was the second build AFAIK. Once you have the Crab legs, you're stuck with them. No immediate plans to alter this function - right now it's "WAI."

(Which reminds me, we’ve added new features to the in-game Email system to either shut it off entirely, or only receive emails from people on your friends list and/or people in your Supergroup. Another step in the battle against annoying in-game spam.)
Shoot, not that the new SK system doesn't sound cool, but the email thing is excellent! Thanks for finally getting this in place Posi et al

IMO, would be better to use Global Friends. I have almost no characters listed in my local friends on my characters these days. That's just my opinion of course. I suppose that I could always start using local friends again, but perhaps an option would be better (although probably harder to code, I know).

But now we are about to embark on a new issue that really makes changes to how you start the game, and Veterans aren't a part of that? (or at least my beta invitation got lost in the mail?)
If you want into a beta test for being a loyal customer, stick around for Going Rogue.

Many forumites didn't see this announcement because it was released during the forum transition, but I for one am excited
  15. The real question is: when can I get more than 5 slots?

I suggested this months ago to Jay. GL with it honestly, but I'm not holding my breath.

As someone who was actually there, and not just speculating about what was there, ther was no such sign-up. No one at Comic Con is getting preferential treatment for closed beta. This is nothing more than unfounded scuttlebutt and secondhand here-say.

Someone dinged my rep for this, and I think that's hilarious.

But to elaborate, I'm mostly waiting for content updates, although I16's new shininess might provide more impetus to catch the next complimentary Double XP weekend. Until then, I've mostly been killing time on my PS3.

I'm actually kind of excited that w00t Radio is coming back again in the near future, and I might use some of their offerings to try to revitalize our SG and such. I'm not out of the game yet, just on a hiatus, at least until I16 but possibly until Going Rogue. We'll see what happens.

Nein, that's just the way it works if your account doesn't have closed beta access.
  22. I think I'll try this on the upcoming Double XP weekend:

"Tired of waiting to get onto Virtue? Want to meet some interesting players? Sick of wearing pants? Triumph awaits!"

The "Unknown" option, dear friends, are pants - and whether one wears them or not.
  23. You can still make them, but it's a lot more work than with UBB.
  24. My Vet Rewards are so timely that I often get them a day or two in advance
