Ick!! Did you see that preview of the book cover? No way was that drawn by a professional, I used to draw things like that when I was 14 with all of the proporitions scewed. I really hope thats either a bad scan of the cover or its a rough draft because that is just embarrasing!

[/ QUOTE ]

Seconded...

I'm a graphic design major, and that cover *hurts* me... On the *inside*.

[/ QUOTE ]

Count me as the third so far. Ya know, when I heard that George Perez was going to do one of the covers for the new TopCow comic, I was excited - until I saw the cover. I really don't mean to impugne his work, but I am just as disappointed with the new novel cover so far as I was then.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ditto. Here's what I thought when I saw it (in this order):
<ul type="square">[*] That's the cover?[*] What' up with their faces?[*] Why are Posi's arms so huge? Isn't he a blaster anyhow?[*] What are they yelling at? "Get down here Rikti saucer!"?
What I find most interesting in RV is the fact that on the villian side, Stalkers can no longer one shot - which is really what the AT is supposed to do, yet scrappers and /em blasters can still two shot. Most Stalkers can't two shot anymore, even after an AS. I don't play a stalker, never have, but this seems very unbalanced in the heroes favor.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, that is exaclty the point. The devs created a code that prevents 1-shot kills; instead, you can only be hit for a max of 90%-95% of your max HP. This applies to any AT. This applies when a player is hit by another player or mob - it does not apply to a player attacking a mob.

I've played a Stalker, and IMHO, I don't think this is wholly unbalanced since it doesn't affect the PvE game too much, and gives PvP heroes and villians (Warburg) a last chance to fight or fly. Plus, I think any Stalker with BU should be able to two-shot the squishier ATs.

Just a heads up:

I have several devs reading this thread, and are working on the bugs you guys are finding, and on ways to improve the Mayhem Missions (such as making the end Hero non-random; currently the end Hero you get is totally random, and has nothing to do with anything you did in the mission, we are looking into changing that).

[/ QUOTE ]

THANK YOU! for answering that little problem. Now we can quit wracking our brains about the 'why' of it and concentrate on other stuff.

I have a raelly bad bug for you... when I use my gravity powers on LOWLY 5hp Civilians... they don't get crushed into little balls of bloody fleshy goo.

Nor do they burst into screaming flames when my dedicated partner a flame/flame brute attacks or gets near them.

Nor do they collapse into a pile of shattered bones when my singularity lifts them...

[/ QUOTE ]

Nor do they change the rating of the game by allowing players to kill helpless civilians.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nor does anybody *die* remember?! They all get teleported away when injured. So don't come at us with this 'reasonable objection based on real world factors beyond our control'. I mean, you guys managed to come up with the spin in ED, didn't you? You managed to spin *that* as the complete opposite of what it was (fewer possibilities for slotting rather than more).

You guys have a powerful grasp of PR, and we both know that if you wanted to, those civilians could be teleported away by the Paragon Emergency Hospital Evacuee Teleportation Service Or Whatever The Expletive Deleted We're Calling It This Week, Anyway Bob Over Here Has This Button And He'll Totally Press It (P.E.H.E.T.S.O.W.T.E.D.W.C.I.T.W.A.B.O.H.H.T.B.A.H .T.P.I.).

Surely. SURELY! the emergency hospital equipment can be diverted from heroes griefing hamidon, or villains being 'defeated' (do you notice the ambiguous language there?! DO YOU!? IT'S PRETTY AMBIGUOUS I THINK. I seem to remember that ambiguity having some kind of special attention called to it!

Those new fancy particle effects certain don't include blood!
They don't! Do they!

of course, blowing up some of those classic car designs is a crime FAR worse than damaging a human being. I mean... sheesh. They only made... log(N) of those.

No, I'm sorry Positron. I realize, trapped inside that suit, you may feel that you've been somehow wronged by society, and after all, if you've been so wronged, how can you possibly extend the live-saving apparatus of this city in which paragons are often seen, paragoning, to the regular citizenry, who, after all, do nothing to help you in your predicament.

Well... Suck it up buster! Tell those guys to apply the same logic to civilians you apply to heroes so that you are not saddled with the nearly insurmountable stigma of having civilians 'gasp' get killed in a video game!

This whole thing smacks of a double standard. Perhaps a triple standard.

[/ QUOTE ]

Rant much?

Seriously, get the sand out of your shorts and move on. The aspersion of your pablum is derived from an assumed notion that the devs have an agenda through ambiguity to dejovialize the game, and that through eliminating some of the violence are making the game less enjoyable, which is harldy the case. I believe (perhaps through misguided assumption) that they have to present material to a rating board (namely the ESRB), and said material needs to fall within certain guidelines to maintain the deired rating.

In layman's terms CoX is not GTA.
5. [ QUOTE ]
If not for the fact that heroes got absolutely nothing else to do in this issue I'd almost ask that RV be blocked off for a mont or two to atleast give villains a chance to get some levels.

As it is heros just camp outside the door or at the pillboxes and they outnumber villains 5 to 1 at any given time.

I don't see any reason for a villain with half a brain to even venture in there for another month...

All this together means that any rewards gained by heroes will be gained without and risk since it's like rewarding them for fighting greys at the moment :-p

I mean the pillbox turrets aren't even spawning higher than an orange boss to my lvl 40...maybe give them something similar to giant monster code so they're equal to everyone?

It's kinda sad that my FF/Energy Defender can waltz in and own the place but my lvl 40 Ice/Cold Curroptor can't even take a single turret out.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was on Test tonight and saw heroes and villains working together (with a few exceptions). We would only take half the pillboxes or vice versa to see who would show up. I think most of us were testing the signature AV spawns to check out the badges. Even got to see some of the new PPPs up close and personal I also had to test how many villians it took to take me down, just for grins

At first I thought the signature AVs were too tough, but considering they drop a badge EACH when you defeat them, I guess it's a fair trade.

The only thing I wish I could have done is try out a heavy. I agree that they need to despawn more so others can have an opportunity to pick one up. The pads were either empty or camped Finally got to control a pillbox at least - I'm used to playing a MM and the controls were exactly the same, which is to say good. Wish I coiuld try this as a MM, but my toon's too low ATM.
6. [ QUOTE ]
I am wondering if anyone else felt the 1 hp and 1 end when you go to the hospital is a bit much. My dislike of it is for the following reasons:
1. It gives griefers more power. They kill you as you are coming out of the base and you have to go back in for a long time... until your rest recharges or you gain your hp + end back.
2. Often when you are going to the hospital more is when your side is heavily outnumbered and so it is more important that you get back in the battle sooner. The low end and hp means that players are going to get back in the game slower and this hurts the outnumbered side more than the one with big mobs.
3. The wait has the opposite effect I think the devs wanted... or at least I hope that the devs wanted to make it harder for big groups to dominate. Currently as things stand it makes it much easier for the big groups to dominate the field and makes it near impossible for the side with fewer to recoup and be able to mount some resistence
4. Not sure if this was a bug or not but in Warburg I was fighting a NPC and died... went to the hospital and was hit several times by the delayed attacks and died. I got double debt for dying.
5. The change is going to make it heaven for the base campers who sit outside the hospital in the PvP zones and snipe away at everyone leaving the hospital... as they straggle out one by one it is basically going to be a shooting gallery... and not fun at all if you are on the recieving end.
6. Come on! What is a hospital for but to heal you? What is the point of going to the hospital and being practically dead.

All in all I think it is a horrible idea and seems quite unpopular from what many were saying. It introduces a level of annoyance that is really not needed. Just think of the squishies who end up in the hospital a lot. It makes most of their game time being waiting to heal because they can only use rest every once in a while.

In practice the 1 hp and 1 end points is a terrible idea and I really hope the devs kill it. It only makes it easier for one group to dominate the field and makes some of the more difficult to play ATs practically impossible to play in PvP. ATs with regen and Fitness are harder to kill but they also can get back in the game quicker. MMs, Doms, Corrs especially are effected.

When playing my ice/dark corr I spent more time in the hospital waiting to heal than I did playing while the heroes camped outside the base and killed us as we left. They controlled all the turrents and there was no hope of the villians recapturing them as they all were lingering inside the hospital. To me it was the only real drawback to RV. It does suck that hide is worthless but that is really another topic. (since hide is no good they should give the stalkers at least some more hp or something to make up for it and make them more viable. I just do not see how sniper attacks are going to even things out)

Maybe a good fix for this would be to make the side with more players on the map have the low hp and end when they go to the hospital and the side with fewer players come out of the hosp fully charged. This would allow the side with fewer players to mount a better resistence and would make it more difficult for the side with the huge mobs to dominate so easily.

Other than this I thought RV was a lot of fun and can't wait to get to 50 to see what it is like then.

The fact that the code isn't "optimized" yet may be part of the problem.

Need less heroes and/ or more villians to be sure.[*] Prestige bonus timer - 5 minutes or 10? Working as intended?[*] Framerate after leaving RV - definitely something is up. Perhaps there are some residuals in RAM or VRAM?
One thing that always turns me off to going to Warburg in CoH when Im leaving a toon in the 40-50 range...it takes so long to get there from pi. And my 50 is parked in the Hive, so thats a long hike too. This is one thing that was well done about CoV...all the gates to the PvP zones are in the according PvE zone.

Is there anyway we could do one of the following...

1. Make an enterance to RV in pi
2. Make a gate that takes us to atlas from pi
3. Move the RV enterance alltogether

Another complaint about having it in Atlas is lag, especially near the statue. Its like putting it in Talos.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ever try Base Teleporter Pads?

[/ QUOTE ]
ok to defend the OP on this... I'm not sure how you have a level 50 tank and not know that the Telepads in COH are crap compared to the Pads in COV. We have way more zones then they do, and our telepads only go to zones that are really crappy.

[/ QUOTE ]

Some people have CoV only for bases. I know a few people who have it and never played a villian; they just wanted to have base content.

And although the exits may be "crappy" for heroes, I'm not sure there's any way to go from PI &gt;&gt;&gt; base &gt;&gt;&gt; RV without a new beacon or something. You would have to go from base portal &gt;&gt;&gt; base &gt;&gt;&gt; Perez &gt;&gt;&gt; AP &gt;&gt;&gt; RV, which may or may not be shorter than taking the long way.

There is a base portal in RV, which means that you can go to and from your base in RV... once you get to RV. I suspect that the reason they put a base in RV is so you can RV &gt;&gt;&gt; Base &gt;&gt;&gt; Empowerment Station &gt;&gt;&gt; RV.

Which makes me wonder... has anyone checked out the other PvP zones to see if base portals were added to those as well?

[ QUOTE ]
Yeh you can TP to the hollows to get to Atlas, but what about the return trip?

[/ QUOTE ]

The return trip? Take the base portal in Atlas or RV, of course But it still depends on your destination (of course).
10. Wasn't on Test for very long last night (had to edit my Live base), but here's what I found:

[ QUOTE ]
Is there a way to get the "patrol" badge (Risk taker) for those of us who were higehr than 40 when I6 came out ?

I havent seen a "mission" contact as of yet.

[/ QUOTE ]

Verified: NO hero mission contact (unconfirmed for villians). Not sure if he's missing or just not on Test yet. Need confirmation that we will be able to run missions in this PvP zone (especially for higher level characters wanting those badges!).

[ QUOTE ]
I don't know if any one is aware of this or not, but after zoning out from RV zone into regular atlas park, the graphics start to "skip" and slow down. This happened to not only me, but all of my teammates after zoning out. Zoning in and gameplay while in the zone was smooth and fine. But after zoning out of RV, for some reason gameplay has a "skip" in it. (ie, flying along, and the picture will skip in place for a moment before resuming)

[/ QUOTE ]

Verified.

Once I zoned back to AP, the game would start skipping frames. Confirmed it with a /showfps command (not that I really needed that to tell me my game looked like a strobe light dance club). Haven't seen a problem like this before.

[ QUOTE ]
The exit from Recluse's Victory to Atlas Park is mislabeled. It ought to be named Atlas Park, but is named Recluse's Victory.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
Currently, the exit to Atlas Park is broken. Once you get into the zone, you can't leave (the option isn't there). While this is only a minor inconvienence on Test, this would be crippling on the live servers. Can we please see a fix for this ASAP? Thanks.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ther are actually three TP pads in RV for heroes. One leads into the zone (the one on the bottom floor of the Longbow base). The other leads back to AP (upstairs and around the wall, the Portal gate). The third gate leads to Recluse's Victory. However, this looks like a base portal (the same sort of screen pops up), and since I don't have a base on Test, I can't verify this. But I'm willing to bet that's what it is (need to see the map in this area).

One more finding:

The pillbox icons on the Lonbow base's war map aren't drawing right. Linky.

I havent seen a "mission" contact as of yet.

[/ QUOTE ]

havent seen an answer for this question, and id toknow as well. anyone know if there are missions in the new PVP zone?

[/ QUOTE ]

Positron siad we'd be able to do missions in RV, so if there's no mission contact (which I plan to verify tonight), it's either bugged, missing, or not implemented on Test yet.
13. Here's what I've found so far:

[ QUOTE ]
Didn't see any signature heroes or villains turn up to defend the last pillboxes, like they were supposed to.

[/ QUOTE ]

Didn't see any myself, but others have, so it may just be that they aren't spawning as frequently as some thought.

[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, rezzers when you die leave you at 1 HP and 1 End, but the zone is amazing! WOW it was so much fun!

[/ QUOTE ]

Same here. Both times I bought it, I only came back with 1 HP and 1 End. Probably a bug, this is not normal for other PvP zones.

[ QUOTE ]
Heroes outnumber vills and heroes are broken so the zone will always be under that control.

[/ QUOTE ]

Only becuase there are a LOT more high level heroes than villians ATM. I don't think that will take long to change though.

And after the Prestige bonus round, the zone reverts to neutral pill boxes (grey), at which point heroes can take them over (they turn blue), or villians can take them over (they turn red). This system looked to be working fine yesterday as far as I could tell.

[ QUOTE ]
And sounds like a ton of prestige exploits on the way.

[/ QUOTE ]

In order to get the Prestige round, all eight boxes must be under the control of the same faction. which should be harder once more higher-level villains start appearing. We'll just have to see how this plays out over the next ccouple of weeks to shake it down.

[ QUOTE ]

Another thing I noticed is that the Heavy spawn points aren't listed on the map. Is this intentional or not?

I've got more testing to do tonight on this, I just jumped into it yesterday for the fun of it, but tonight I'll be looking for the mission contact (if he/ she exists) and be reviewing Heavy AI (if I can get one), maps, etc.
14. tounge in cheek

I've been playing CoH for almost two years. And I am also mad.

As a paying customer, I'm mad that NCSoft lets people who constantly complain without constructive criticism or contribution continue to play. These people continue to grief me and begrudge my enjoyment of the game. And yet NCSoft does nothing to stop these players from hijacking threads, make life miserable for players trying to enjoy the game, and overall just ruin the fun for half of the community.

As a paying customer, why should I be forced to endure the endless griping and moaning of thread jackers? How fair is it for me to read through a celebratory forum only to find somoene's rant about the inequity of life or how they are going to move to another game (and yet still post here to make everyone else miserable)? When, NCSoft, will you realize that we paying customers want to enjoy the forums and the game without these people who greif us with their unending whining?

Darn it, I want to have my cake and eat it to. When will you take all of these bickerers and move them to their own server and forums, NCSoft, so us paying customers no longer have to endure this griefing and live in peace?

If the situation doesn't change soon, I'm going to rant a dozen or so more times, threaten to cancel my account, complain about how much money I'm spending on this game, demand my money back, and continue to play regardless of the outcome.

ARRRRGGHHHHH!!!

16. [ QUOTE ]
That's what I was complaining about. You'll just have to plop down $35 (you'll get a "month free" inside the box that costs $50 on the shelf) to avoid being put in the "have nots" category in the game. That's lame.

I'd much prefer just tacking an additional $3 on each month's fee and make _all_ expansions free. It's about the same money either way (except spread out more with the no-box-expansion route) but it avoids segmenting the playerbase. I find very little value in buying the cardboard from the store. Heck, even the disks are useless since you'll have pre-downloaded all of the content on it before it's available in stores anyway.

If it's just a matter of putting something new on the shelves (so they don't get shoved to the back), why not re-release the original box (with updated content on the CD so people don't have to download it all when they buy the game) with new art featuring whatever new stuff is in the expansion with each issue? That would keep the CoH box in the "new releases" shelf fairly regularly while keeping the playerbase from segmenting.

Heck, it's annoying enough when you're teamed with someone who can't use your base's teleporters because they don't own CoV. Imagine if you had to ask the team if they all had Box #3 before you selected a mission in one of the new zones? At least bases are mostly useless so it hasn't been a big problem yet.

23. Please be clear. Do you not have permission to edit your base, or is there something wrong with your permissions? Or is it just a matter of not being able to place base items once you're in editing mode?
