I'd hate to spoil anything this early, but you'll DEFINITELY, without a doubt, want to check out the panel at SDCC. Definitely a lot more coolness to tell you guys about.

Heh heh heh. Thank you, but you ain't seen nothin' yet...
  4. Yup. Players submitted a ton of great, well-drawn billboard ideas, and the environment team turned quite a few of them into actual game assets. Looks like you guys've found 3 so far--can you find the rest? There are quite a few other ones out there.

I, and the other residents of Swamp Castle, approve!
lol. But you know I work in 2D, right? You can thank character artist Cheryl Austin for giving Mother Mayhem actual 3D curves.

Thought she looked familiar. Yes, I noticed quite a few of those Easter eggs.
  7. .pdf would be awesome.

Read it on DA though, and very much enjoyed it. Thought the art was strong throughout, and I kept thinking "wow--look at the attention to detail" in capturing these well-known COH landmarks and environments.

    Pretty dang cool. Nice work.

It's great that you are still reading. But, like jays costume request thread people will stop believeing you unless you occaisionally pop in every few pages to say something.

This morning I'm going to be the pessimist. You set up those threads to get feedback. It is important for you to give us feedback too. Tell us it's a good idea or you don't know how to implement something. I gurantee you'll get 10 good ideas and 50 bad ones. It's great that you created the threads, but it's not enough to just create them. Keep them full of red posts.
Fair enough, and you'll continue to see me posting on ATA and other threads of course. But I don't feel a need to say 'good idea' over and over, even though that's often how I feel. As much as I'd love to have a full conversation about every post, to talk through the challenges and merits of each, there's only so much time, y'know? And this concept art ain't going to draw itself after all.

One specific topic I'd like to hash out in the main ATA thread is a reaction to the Animal Pack. I'll go over there now, in fact...

But of course! Since the system's pretty well set up at this point, I don't feel the need to comment unless something major comes up, but rest assured that everything is read, and we certainly note the great ideas.

Sidenote: we had a project TODAY, in fact, that specifically benefited from going back to some of the earlier ATA posts. There was a sub-topic that was suddenly relevant again, and I remembered reading some excellent suggestions. Now they'll be put to use. Coincidence, but a great illustration of how these threads have been helpful.

The main ATA thread was up to 83 pages of suggestions when I collated it all into a spreadsheet for the team. (Ack!)

This is pretty accurate actually. I started these threads to create an open dialogue with you guys about future art planning, and I think it's worked out incredibly well. Whenever we have an art conversation internally, I often find myself referring back to a solid point made here on an ATA thread, so in terms of making players' voices heard in-house, I'd say it's mission accomplished.

As Bubba points out though, there's a certain incubation time between an art decision and something big turning up in game. So even though we've taken a lot of your suggestions to heart and worked them into our ongoing pipeline, you won't necessarily see them all right away. Sometimes, it even requires brand new tech to make some of these ideas work correctly. Rest assured though, every ATA thread has helped us queue things up for maximum fan joy.

The even better news is that we're already starting to see specific, major player requests come online--right now in fact. Take the Animal Pack for example. If you total up all the various requests on the ATA: Super Boosters thread (which I have) you'll find that it's the most popular. Well, ask and you shall receive! As one of the first non Origin-themed boosters, this one's all about popular demand, so if you dig it and want to encourage more of the same, make sure to vote with your wallet.

I won't let the cat out of the bag here, but I think some of you have an inkling about the next set as well...

    Cheers,
    NS

Haven't enjoyed post-that-time Wizard at all. I feel bad about the jobs lost, but this was long overdue.
Jim leaving was probably the first sign that the end was nigh. These days, he's in charge over at the HERO initiative and doing great work.
  14. [QUOTE=SuperOz;3450746]...seeing the venerable Dragon and Dungeon magazines just shut up shop made me very very sad. It feels like niche interests and hobbies are becoming homogenised and 'cleaned up' for mass consumption. I kind of like the rough around the edges feel these things had. [QUOTE]

Yup. Feels like we're truly and completely in an online era now.
  15. Saw this the other day and dug it. Characterization's accurate, and the roster's pretty strong. I'll watch more for sure.
  16. So apparently the print edition of Wizard: The Guide to Comics is going to cease publication. It's been a long time coming, but man, for about 10 years, one of my major life goals was to draw a cover for that magazine, and now I'm a little sad to see it go away.

I had such a love/hate relationship with Wizard. While I enjoyed the creator interviews and articles, the blatant commercialism of 'must-buy' lists and the useless price guides always bothered me. I haven't been a reader for about 2 years, and I'm not going to miss what the magazine devolved into by the end, but I do have a lot of good memories associated with Wizard.

For one, my all-time favorite single issue comic, Astro City 1/2 (about a man whose wife was written out of the timeline during a Crisis-like cosmic event), was originally a Wizard publication. And their drawing tutorial columns were invaluable to me as a young artist. No real replacement for stuff like that, so yeah, sorry to see the magazine fold.

    Jet Packs FTW!

I've mentioned it before, but the Art Team's been looking into the possibility of backpacks. We definitely want to make some for you, but all I can say for now is "stay tuned..."

Definitely a great season. The show keeps surprising me, and as long as that's the case, I'll keep on watchin'. And I suppose they try to discourage quitting just to keep the drama high--if everyone just walked out, there wouldn't be much of a competition. Can't wait for Redemption Island.

    Picks for 2010? Let's see...

Movie: Inception, by far. Honorable mention: Tron, Toy Story 3, Predators.

TV: Tie between the Walking Dead and SG:U, which really found its stride this season after a so-so first year. Honorable mention: Mythbusters and Survivor, which are perennial favs for me.

Comics: Blackest Night (main series). Honorable mention: Astro City, Irredeemable/Incorruptible, and Lady Mechanica (first issue just came out, but it's about time we had a decent steampunk book!).
