  1. as you talk about PB duration, i personnally find that aim duration from thorny assault should ba looked at.

    thorny assault have long animation i find 10 s being very frustrating.
    even if you use it to try to hold something with defense you can't hope stacking two hold ou you play a long animated hold like gravity's one.

    only me feel it shouldbe loocked at?

    the main problem is that they gave mezz to anybody.
    the 2 official mezzer usually end to be killed by a stun or a hold launched by a damage dealer.

    things are:

    -a dom or a contro launch a mezz.

    if the victime is a squishy it's ok, dom and control will need some time to kill it, the squishie has the time to eat inspiration or hope for suppression.

    if the victime got a mezz protection it's a wasted power.


    -a damage dealer that throw a root/stun/hold on a squishy

    now their is a problem. as they have the capacity to 2 shot or 3 shot the target they just immobilized.

    this lead to mezz being stronger in the hands of damage dealer than in the hands of the AT that were desigend to mezz (and then are weaker in term of burst damage)

    a energie blaster can have AIM+BU+PB+bonesmasher/TF which is IMHO a total nonsense.

    a spine scrapper/stalker will root easily a dom/contro. but the contray is impossible. for what i know as it's their only defense a root should work better in the hand of a mezzer.

    i think we need to come back to the original description of the AT given by the character creation screen.

  4. perma domination was not a buff.
    it's the clue that dom's are broken.

    if you need specifique power to get the +70% of recharge by IO + hasten to have good performance, it's that doms need a buff.

    especially those that can't afford perma dom or just want to be causual PvPer.

    and btw, all AT with a high amount of recharge can reach a state that give them advantage like permadom.

    dominator were broken before IO. they are still after as IO are available to everybody and not just for them.

    a dominator will be fine when he will not HAVE to get permadom to reach to the level of the other.

    and by the way perma dom is not cheap. i know i will never have the time/influence to reach it.

  6. what we need is to get ird of the " if you don't have the right build then you have sometimes no chance at all against another build" more commonly called the rock/paper/scisor.

    when everybody will start with the same chance of success, PvP will be fixed.
  7. i'm entierely agaisnt the system of reward personnally.
    PvP must remain a fun contest

    i'm not sure that it would bring more people in PvP zone if they know that being a causual or a non uber psecifique FoTM build will lead them to be "farmed".

    i prefer by far this sugestion which would fix what is IMHO the greastest flaw of Co* PvP

    like total focus animation time allow the mob to fight back the time you need to actually strike it.

    i know range doesn't affact animation time.
    but if you are not far enough then you are spotted. it's the same for any other power in the game.
    ET is fast enough to be sure that the power takes effect before the mob can actually react, our hold aren't that fast.

    when a consigliere launch a propel or when a Lost boss trigger dominate on me i have generally the time to trigger a power even if i know that i will be held right after.

    Sounds like a reference to Energy Assault. Since I think Psychic Shockwave is the only other power from the secondary that is boosted by Domination.

    This is probably connected to the fact that Total Focus is mag 3 instead of 4. Otherwise we could one shot disorient EBs under Domination.

    My feeling is that it's generally fine. The difference is not that great, during Domination most things will be controlled anyway, and /Energy needs something.

    energie is the only secondary that gives you another "hold" in bonesmasher and total focus.
    while in domination you actually have 3 STH(well two are stun but...) and no other dominator can argue having that.

    i personnally think that energie is what all secondary should be. (it still lack damage and i would not mind to see total focus changed into a cone)
    i mean controller can hold their own with few control as they have heal/debuff as back up
    but for dominator i feel that we jsut lack of control.
    for exemple the -def in thorn is cool. but as you have aim in it it become almost useless why not having a -res instead?.
    when i face a boss or a blaster i'd rather having a will domination like effect for exemple. or a dark pit.

    i think that our assault set should be rethinked tolooks like defender secondary.

    we have the lowest life and no damage mitigation. in that way we are a blaster BUT blaster are balanced by the fact that they have very high burst damage potential (best defense is attack) what we obviously lack even under domination.

    only WH give a "free shot" to the foe.GDF can give this impression to if you use it without any range enhancement . as the animation time is long (and that the hold takes place at the end of the animation), the foe can simply see you and act if they have quick attack.

    it seems that on certain mob (it do it a lot with lost anathema for exemple) impal does nullifies the KB of ice slick.

    i try to test it each time i meet a lt or boss but as i tend to die quickly against those guy it's hard to run a long test.

    it changed my mind i thought that the difference of population in CoH/CoV was tiny lol. no there are usually 2 villains for 6 heros ><

    and it demonstrated that when you look for a team you have interest to be a ill/ /kin /emp controller, a rad/ or emp/fender or a stone tank if you want to have the luck to get an invit instead of answer like "why would i take you when i can have a fire/kin ?"

  15. i currently have an issue with my ice/* dominator.
    the core power need your target to be on floor (ice slick, glacier, flashfreeze)
    but the ST hold and frostbite don't inflict "a strong" -fly. and ice slick doesn't too.

    where gravity on the other do'nt have any use of all th -fly it can stack.

    on the same idea, why giving ice's root a - kb when the set also got ice slick ??
    i can't understand why nobody asked removing this anti kb.

    maybe this should be reworked if it doesn't annoys only me.

    i just checked in a builder (mid's hero designer) and it list wormhole as lasting only for 2.7 sec ?! O_o
    (no other AoE control is under 11.9)

    if my builder is correct it's a shame that nothing have been done yet !

    I really like the basic framework of CoH’s PvP system. I feel it’s on the cusp of a fabulous game and with more effort, PvP could be a favorite game attraction. Unfortunately the PvP system is significantly, grossly unbalanced and the only ones involved now are die-hards who would play with it no matter how badly the system was designed.

    Here’s a typical post, by no means authoritative but a good summation.

    Controller - Emp or Kin?
    Defender - Emp, Kin, Rad or Cager?
    Blaster - Ice/EM or Fire/EM?
    Scrapper - Are you seriously going to bring anything other than Spines?
    Tank - If you bring anything other than EM, it’s just a taunt bot.

    …there's no room for variation in the support. Yea, you can mix around the damage a bit, maybe bring an Ice/Ice blaster, or a BS/Regen scrapper, but there's not much you can really change.

    The problem for me is that there are only a handful of truly viable PvP powerset combinations; the only way to mix things up is through the combinations you make with those powersets.

    We could debate the details but this writer’s assessment is fundamentally correct. The majority of powerset combinations and even entire archetypes are virtually excluded from PvP.

    I’ve never PMed or bugged the Devs. So as a holder of a “Committed” veteran award I feel I’ve earned the right to publicly ask Statesman, Positron, Geko and Castle this single question: do you plan to refine PvP?

    I’m well aware that balancing ATs and powersets for PvP is a difficult matter, especially with PvE concerns. Some refinement has taken place and I appreciate the work involved. For example, I saw Super Reflexes redesigned into a workable set.

    I’d like to quote from Rules of Play by Salen and Zimmerman, a book on game design. I’ve quoted this book before but I’d like to bring this directly to the developers’ attention. I’ve condensed the quotations but not to violate the intentions of the writers.

    “Degenerate strategies often appear in complex games, where the numerous permutations of play sometimes afford shortcuts in the space of possibility… What makes a strategy degenerate is not just that it goes against the intentions of the designers… it violates the spirit of the game… In early editions of Magic: The Gathering certain card combinations were simply too powerful and could destroy a player on the first turn. …The publishers of the game declared certain cards illegal, most notoriously the Black Lotus card, in order to keep this kind of play experience in check.”

    “Why isn’t a degenerate strategy considered cheating? Degenerate strategies take advantage of weaknesses in the rules of a game but do not actually violate the rules… Whether or not a particular degenerate strategy is considered proper is often contextual. For example, the use of a single-technique exploit to beat all of the computer opponents in a hypothetical fighting game might be admired… a dedicated player has ‘solved’ the fighting game like a puzzle… If the degenerate strategy is used against other human players, fighting bouts would devolve into uninteresting games with both players relying on the one exploitable technique again and again.”

    Before anyone takes offense to the term “unsportsmanlike player,” please note that in an iterative design environment such players are actually a resource. They find the holes that the designers must fill. They take pride in their ruthlessness but scrupulously never cheat. They detest true cheaters. (Cheaters could be considered a similar resource, of course. I would prefer the term "game-breaking player.")

    My diagnosis, and I think every long-time player of CoH will support me, is that CoH’s PvP system has degenerated and is in dire need of more regular and diligent iterative design.

    Statesman, Geko, Castle and Positron, you will continue to receive my patient support if you assure me you intend a more regular and diligent iterative design. But almost eighteen months after CoV’s release if you don’t respond, I for one must assume you mean to abandon PvP to its current degenerate state and move on.

    So again: do you plan to refine PvP?

    I am gettin really frustrated at these posts saying PvP is unbalenced. First off any build can be good in PvP depending how u build it and play it. Now im not sure in CoV but in CoH where always worried about stalkers. Most of us building ANTI stalker builds. Anyone can kill anyone in PvP and i dont see unbalenced. Stalkers are crazy. Brutes are great to and so on. I dont really no why people are creating problems for the devs. If u dont like the system then dont PvP

    what strike me the most in this unbalance issue is the hero side in fact.
    wouldn't it be more fun for you to have real challenge?
    you really like knowing that vilain start with a handicap and still PvP with only uber roxxor build?
