Welcome to our "Search the words, save the world" forum mission!
A super computer turned evil codenamed Ebil-o is attempting to take over our most powerful nations' computer systems and exterminate us puny human beings (how original, huh?). However, every week, a short window of opportunity allows us to break into Ebil-o's matrix and reset the timer leading to our undoubtedly apocalyptic end!
How do we do that, I hear you ask? Well, we happen to have an anonymous little helper and each week, he or she snail mails us a word search puzzle containing anywhere between 5 (five) and 10 (ten) words related to City of Heroes related theme (Ebil-o likes City of Heroes; apparently, it helps him unwind after a long day hard at work planning to get rid of humanity).
Each week a new theme will be passed along and you will need to find the exact number of words youre being told exists within the block of letters you are given.
Your opportunity to save us all is through a word block located at the bottom of this post.
The goal is to be the first one to find the words based on the theme (without being told what they are), circle them in the word block (using Paint or an equivalent program) and then list them below it.
If you are the first one to answer with the correct words, you win and only then will we be able to input the words into Ebil-o's matrix, thus delaying our impending doom. As a token of our gratitude, we'll give you the "Ebil-o FTL [date]" forum title as well as 1 (one) costume code amongst the following ones:
- Carnival of Shadows Harlequin
- Freakshow Tank Boss
- Paragon Police Department Hardsuit
- Carnival of Shadows Ring Mistress
- Knives of Artemis Lt.
- Praetorian Clockwork

Greetings Players,
This message is to give everyone a heads up that on Tuesday, March 2nd we will be shutting down the Test Server for Issue 17 "Dark Mirror" Closed Beta. -
All the problems we addressed should be resolved following the directions posted above.
Quote:If you are still having issues please contact tech supportIf after following both "fixes" you still can't get it working, go to your CoH folder location then delete every copy of the updater (EU, US .prv etc) as well as the CityofHeroes.exe.
Then download a new Updater from Here (This is the EU version) Save it to desktop then run it. Point it to your current CoH folder and let it do it's thing.
Our tech team is aware of what's going on and should you need their assistance please do not hesitate to submit a ticket. -
All I can say after clicking that link is *ick* oh and thanks for the constant heebie jeebies. I can handle pretty much any bug and actually volunteered at the local zoo several summers teaching children the importance of all creatures great and small but on spider day's... I was sent home.

As an FYI if you updated before the EU update server was restarted, you may need to follow the below directions posted by Rent_. (tested and they do work)
Translated version of the instructions are on the way however feel free to translate for your fellow players.
Quote:The thing is guys, it's not ALL users.
I'm on Vista and my updater updated fine. I've not had to change anything.
If after following both "fixes" you still can't get it working, go to your CoH folder location then delete every copy of the updater (EU, US .prv etc) as well as the CityofHeroes.exe.

That should then be back to normal. -
Hey Everyone,

How well do you know your City of Heroes/Villains locations?
Hello, hello and welcome to Niviene's...Oops scratch that, I meant Avatea's Screenshot the Spot forum game where every Wednesday until 4pm Pacific Time (7:00 PM Eastern Time / 12:00 PM GMT / 1:00 Central European Time) you can win your choice of a costume code from past Con seasons and the Forum Title "Screenshot Spotter [date]".
The object of this game is to be the first to 1). Figure out the location in-game depicted in the screenshot and 2). Post a screenshot that is closest to the one I have posted , with your own character in the place of Niviene. Sounds easy right? Well there's a catch. The location isn't going to be as obvious as you might think so make sure you pay close attention to the picture details and hints.
The Pictures will start out masked and more and more of the image will be revealed as time goes on as long as no one has correctly identified the location by posting their own screenshot. If by the end of the day no one has identified the location, the full picture will be revealed and no one will win for that week (BOOOOOOO!).
Rules:
1. Your post must contain a screenshot of the location depicted in the initial contest post, but with your character in the place of Niviene
2. Screenshots must remain less than 800px X 500px to qualify.
3. UI needs to be turned off (Menu -> Options -> Keymapping -> scroll to bottom under other "Toggle Screenshot UI")
4. Reply in the official City of Heroes® forum (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/) thread created for each weekly Screenshot The Spot Contest with your screenshot submission.
5. Your reply must contain a single screenshot. Entries with more than 1 screenshot will be disqualified.
6. Your submission must also contain the following statement. Please note that your submission will be disqualified if this statement is not present in your post:
7. To enter the contest weekly, as of January 13, 2010, you must be 13 years of age or older. If a winner is under 18 or a minor in his or her state/province/country of residence, his or her parent or guardian must also sign any applicable releases and documentation.
8. Please note, only 1 (one) entry per forum account will be accepted. If you post a second time, you'll get disqualified, so make your one entry count!
9. Entries must conform to the Official City of Heroes Message Forum Rules and Guidelines.
10. If you win the City of Heroes® Screenshot The Spot Contest one week, you are not eligible to do so again for the next 8 weeks. This is to allow other people the opportunity to win. Please be courteous to others and refrain from participating during the weeks you are not eligible to win.

*sigh* and I was going to buy Avatea lunch today for posting this for me yesterday...
Should have used that other pic first!
Well done Blazing Tiger. -
Quote:Was super fun.. I think me and Niv were the only 1s being sought out and killed.. best line I heard on vent was between fits of laughter was Niv sayin ".. i think i need another drink.."
Major props bud. it was fun. Dont let the negative feedback deter you, trust me there is always going to be someone that has to whine about the way you/we run an event.
Im looking into making a toon more pvp friendly.. now if i can only control my giggling and actually focus...
hahah I had a blast although I was pretty much face down the entire 1st round. Sorry to my team but thanks for being good sports. I couldn't stop laughing long enough to actually attempt survival and I wish Cherry had tp'd me to that hiding place.
Going forward it really should be considered a "handicap" if you're on Niviene's team and therefore that team should get the auto win.
just sayin!
PS guys, it's pronounced Niv - EEE - N not Niv-een heh -
Hey Everyone,
I wanted to clarify for everyone that you do not need a PAX badge in order to attend the Meet and Greet. I have updated the first post to reflect that as well. -
East Coasters, rejoice! It's been a long time coming, but we're finally headed your way to meet our loyal players in person and represent at PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts!
There's no NCsoft booth at PAX East this year, but we are hosting the following panel at the show on Saturday afternoon from 11:30am - 12:30pm:
Re-Inventing A Super-Heroic MMO
How do you keep the world's first and most popular super-powered MMO fresh and relevant? First, you blur the lines between good and evil. Then, you throw in new content, features and systems that provide an upgrade guaranteed to keep things interesting into 2010 and beyond! Join the art, design and production masterminds behind City of Heroes® as they discuss their upcoming "Going Rogue" expansion and share their overall wisdom on how to keep up with the times by continuously re-inventing your MMO. Attendees will learn about a never before discussed Going Rogue feature!
Panelists will include Melissa "War Witch" Bianco, Matt "Positron" Miller, Jesse "Ghost Falcon" Caceres, and artist extraordinaire, David Nakayama.
But that's not the extent of it--we're throwing an official Meet and Greet! The location and other details are coming soon, but mark your calendar for Saturday evening, March 27th from 7:00pm - 10:00pm. You'll be able to hang out with the developers and the Community Relations team from Paragon Studios, have refreshments and even play pool or air hockey! There will be raffle prizes and the opportunity to purchase City of Heroes® items previously sold at Hero-Con. It's going to be a fun time you won't want to miss! Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a follow-up announcement with more specifics.
We can't wait to make our first visit to the East Coast and hope you'll come out to see us!

Quote:And....I still have no idea where that is. Can't be DA without the fog.
It certainly is Dark Astoria. It was tough finding a location there that wouldn't be obvious that it was "DA". (Leaves on the ground a sign that is in more than one spot.) The mobs were your hint and I tried to make sure you didn't see those so clearly but the chest emblems I thought would be a dead give-away.
You guys are QUICK so I constantly have to look for tougher ways to distort the images to throw you off your game.My apologies to those that were frustrated. Blame your fellow players on being too good at knowing their City of Heroes locations heh.

And it ain't my fault if the zombies didn't wanna spawn in the right place!
With a 2 min "edit" lead over Arkyaeon this weeks winner is... Demobot! Well done!
