Thanks for the replies, very much appreciated ! I have made 44 as of last night and used the number two build to create my originally posted idea ( without stamina ). I have to say I am underwhelmed with tremor. The knockBACK defeats what I'm trying to do. I love the Stone Melee set for the knockDOWN. I can control the POA ( point of attack ) with fault and my 3 basic attacks while the team ( if I'm teamed ) takes out the stunned wanderers. Tremor just screws up the entire mess and actually slows my leveling down with the scatter effect. The idea of an AOE attack is nice, but the reality of tremor , for me , leaves a lot to be desired.
My current build has taunt in it and it's been a staple of mine for a long time. I'm going to rework the build to keep it. I DO have a few questions about the WP set in particular however. RTTC has the ability to slot taunts into it. Is this a good idea ?
This is my original build I had made for him. I made it without really knowing what I was doing but have followed it so far and it's worked well for me. Maybe get help fixing it instead of reinventing the wheel? I'm still admittedly overwhelmed with all the choices for slotting.

Hello Tanker community, I come seeking advice.
I've been playing my WP/ Stone Melee tanker for 43 levels now and have a good idea of what my play-style is. I've now begun to contemplate using one of my respecs to match my build to my style of play. Before this it seemed a waste as I hadn't really experienced all the powers available from both power sets. Knowing I would eventually come to this decision, I used the #1 build as a Stamina (fitness pool) based build, and used the #2 to test the viability of a toggle heavy build without stamina for the sake of completeness.
With just SO's the #2 build definitely lacks in the sustained onslaught department. The #1 build is more useful, but not what I would call "fahgetabowdit!". With the introduction of sets into my build the gap closed quickly. So, now I've come to this. I have two builds that are based on what I've found works for me from both primary sets. The difference is in the pool powers. I've saved a fair chunk of change for just this occasion but still didn't want to go the way of the purple billionaire. I'm certainly not in that category monetarily (influence) speaking.
Just a few things I am specifically looking for.
1) I want to control the point of attack. To accomplish this I have taken 3 single target attacks each with a built in amount of either mitigation (disorient, knockdown) or control (hold) and in the case of Build #1 3 AOE attacks that do the same as the single attacks with the addition of, unfortunately Knockback (Tremor) and Fear. Situationally I'm fine with KB, and in a HOLY SCHNICKIES !! moment it can save a team mates life. Mostly I have it to keep the bad guys looking my way. Fear is a great control and mitigation tool. Build two has the addition of an aoe sleep. I took it for the huge AOE radius and the -Def that is built into it, the sleep is a non factor. Also it's another way to taunt many bad guys at once. Have I missed an opportunity to make this goal better realized ?
2) I'm a busy tank. I've played MMOs for a good long time and in all of them I tend to excel at being a MT ( main tank ). This means I monitor the field of battle and go where I'm needed positionally to best suit the teams needs. I'm also a glorious ******* who loves to save the day, so I'm constantly keeping my eyes on my team mates health bars. If my throng of squishies... ahem, I'm sorry, my team mates are taking too much damage, I'll swoop in and handle that situation. I operate under the funnel of love theory. As the MT, the team DPS members should be assisting me ( if Melee ) or targeting me ( if ranged attack ) so that we burn down our targets quickly and efficiently. Controllers do just that and I trust that they have the same set of eyes that I do to assist in helping a team mate in trouble. Healers are what they are. Either they are very busy, of they get to kick it and enjoy the ride depending on the teamMy build has to allow me to do this in every situation. Admittedly I'm still learning the CoH defensive slotting, so that's where my biggest, to my mind, need for help may lie. I'm just not certain what to focus on in a defensive slotting context.

As a tanker myself I can tell you that 2 in CJ is very nice when you slot Blessing of the Zephyers #1 and #3 ( KB mag -4 protection ) I feel even 3 wouldn't be a waste with the yummy defensive bonuses along with the most excellent movement boost as well. Just another way of looking at it. Personally I have it 2 slotted.

Air superiority has been vital to my leveling. Unslotted ( save the lone acc DO in it now ) it is the most accurate attack I have. I made 20 last night soloing most of the way. At this point my attack chain is Seeds, Roots, Strangler on who ever didn't get affected by seeds, if any. If they are all confused and locked down by roots. I pick the hardest target. I get behind them, Air Su, Re-apply roots to the group, Strang the main target, rinse repeat. When the main target is near to death I use sands of mu to soften the others up as I finish off the first target.
Hover, to my mind, takes a back seat in the early levels, especially since I get the jet pack and the jump pack so early and easily.
Of course, I could just respec out of it when I'm of a level where using it would be suicideRight now though, it's the fastest way to take down groups. Especially useful against Lt.

Bravisimo ! The controller community is fantastic. I especially appreciate the "why" something doesn't ( or DOES! ) work. I now know more than I did before. Criticism is fantastic when it's contructive. I've been reading more about the sets, and clearly I won't be getting anything near to those any time soon. I've gotten my Plant / Storm ( Tropic Thunder ) to 12 today on Virtue.

I went on advice from several storm controller threads. Plant was a bit harder to find info that was anything near to current. I tried to make this while I was at work >.> <.< (Shh!!) Clearly I need to focus a bit
I'll spend more time writing things down and loking at how mids changes the numbers. I did indeed put the wrong 3 into that .. doggone it.

I'm very interested in playing the Controller AT since I've come back to CoX. My previous experience has been mostly with Tankers, and a little bit with an Ice/Ele blaster. I'm comfortable getting in the midst of bad guys and doing what needs to be done be it grouped, or solo. I'm also fine keeping my range as well. I tend to like "busy" characters with utility so this fits that for me ( at least on paper * Mids * )
The first 8 - 10 levels will go fast as I'll grab a sewer group and take that exp. train to Kings Row. As I'll only be using 2-4 level powers throughout that time I didn't really sweat what goes when in the early levels. Just setting up for the mid to late run.
Franken-slotting is a completely new concept to me. I've read a ton and *think* I have a decent build here, but would love for more experienced minds to help me if I've done something damaging to my ability to group well ( firstly ) and solo well ( if need be ).

What are you looking for the build to accomplish? Will you be grouping more than Soloing? Will you only be soloing (gawd forbid) ? Influence, is it an issue or are you rolling in it. The community will need more info to truely help you I'm afraid.

I have a tried a few ATs since coming back and none have scratched my itch like my Kin/Sonic defender. It's active, effective and just a ton of fun to play. I enjoy that it takes some strategy to make it work, although I can be a pseudo blaster if I want to for a time and just mash keys

Perky Goth ? Oookay.
Batman may be the Dark Knight, but he doesn't seem to be that way when he is out of costume. . . He is character driven, to a point, by his past. Not by his need to suck blood, slit his wrist, dress only in black and constantly "brood". At the end of the day he is still a hero. This is defined by his actions and his words.
I can't imagine why you would take offense. They are my feelings, and mine alone. It affects you in no way shape or form. Anyway I thought Goth was all about the FTW attitude ? Oh wait, you're "Perky" goth .. my bad. -
My frustration comes from the RP snobs who think that their way of RP is the ONLY way. I've actually had a person * add emo / goth / vampire sulking freak in a black duster here * ask me "Are you trying to RP me ? If so you must address me by my correct title blah blah blah" ( ok genius, if we're RPing how would I know what your "title" IS if we've never met .. Hmmm??? ) . . . RP is a completely individual thing, like conversation, sure we all do it, but we all have our little twist on it.
Forget for a moment that I've played pen and paper RPGs since the late 70s. Forget that I've played nearly all the major MMOs @ one point or another, the real issue is with CoH in particular.
The types of people that RP in this game are pretty much social deviants as near as I can tell. Virtue in particular is a breeding ground for this type of behavior. I've been playing CoH since closed Beta. The first year was a great time on Virtue. We had HEROES * GASP ! * not vamps and devils and "DETHGAWD" the hero ?!? C'mon.
Half the battle of RP is immersion. It's tough when this game has gone so far from "heroes" that we, who actually play a character that resembles a hero and acts as a hero are the exception, not the rule.
The population is small enough on all the servers that they should just create a Goth server, and allow a free transfer to it for all the folks that think that is what CoH is. I'd love to have my game back.
