If I thought that the developers were continually nerfing the game in order to lessen my enjoyment, I would quit immediately. It surprises me that you seem to think that is what's happening, and yet you still play.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's the problem with monopolies, they leave you with very little choice.
If another superhero game that offers basically decent gameplay, a whole slew of character options at your fingertips, and powers that haven't been homogenized until they seem a good deal less than superheroic pops up mayhap more people will jump ship. Were it offline and thus placed out of reach of grasping developers whose only goal in life sometimes seems to be to destroy characters and render time spent playing meaningless then so much the better. Such a game would doubtless gather an online community that would create more content than MMORPG devs have a tendency to and without the tendency to "rebalance" things into inanity ta' boot...
That's the dream, but in the meantime there's a monopoly. In the meantime we can but shake our fists and give voice (such as it is) to our many complaints, fruitless endeavor though it may be. Unless and until something better comes along, we're stuck here and they're stuck with us.

I myself CAN'T WAIT for Marvel and DC to release their games. It's not that I will auto-jump ship from CoX, but I will be trying those games the day they hit the shelves. Though I do enjoy most of the time I spend in CoX, I also think there's alot that's wrong with this game and, call me negative if you want to, but I don't see any of those things getting fixed. Most of my problems with CoX stem from all the nerfing, and just plain old design/implementation flaws. If those same things are better in Marvel/DC's games then I don't envision me having any difficulty moving my $30 a month over.
Until then, barring anymore major nerfs, I'll be here. -

well i cant see what else you would call "nerfing" burn
posi might not remember it but its one of those powers that we "use" to use
since hes not nerfing things..maybe he can tell us when he plans on fixing the power he messed up then?
[/ QUOTE ]
I would call Burn's change many things:
Power alteration
Reduced in effectiveness
Strength modification
Debuff to the power
etc.
Just because I don't use the word "nerf" does not mean things will never be adjusted in a downward direction.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem is that "nerf" is the term the players uses for any reduction in the effectivnes of a power, whether you approve of its use or not. I myself am a plain language guy... if you dance around something by saying "power alteration" it just annoys the crap outa me, and alot of people I'd imagine. Its like you not being direct or completely honest with me. Ambiguous terms are not required. Call a spade a spade. -
[ QUOTE ]
Congratulations guys! nice work!!
Now the devs can nerf all the powersets that were involved, just kidding.
[/ QUOTE ]
First: Congratulations to all. Welldone.
2nd: The nerfing of powersets is a real consern of mine. It seems that anytime players figure out a way to beat something the Devs nerf it (Hamidon attacking while held, anyone). I really hope that I'm wrong here because it's not RAD, ICE, DARK, KIN, or COLD's fault that the Devs put huge Regen on the AV/Heroes, but because of it these sets are highly-valued presently. It's not a REAL case of them being overpowered, it's a Dev-created senario. The Devs made those sets more valuable with the changes.
Any nerf would at this point would be a bad reaction to bad design decisions, rather than fixing the bad design in the first place. -

Just added this patch note to PvP section:
Being defeated in a PvP zone will carry debt if any of the damage to you was caused by NPCs. The amount of debt is directly proportional to the amount of damage you took from NPCs vs. how much was done by opposing Player Characters. The more damage dealt to you by NPCs means more debt when you are defeated.
* This means that you can no longer “escape debt” by being defeated by a PC after taking massive damage from NPCs, nor will you be penalized with a massive amount of debt if you are defeated by an NPC after taking a huge amount of damage from a PC.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why is there Debt in PvP zones at all?
[/ QUOTE ]
-unconstructive response-
To ensure that I never go.
So let's see... that's:
- No AV fights
- No Hamidon Raids
- No Giant Monster fights (including TFs with GMs)
- No PvP
- Street sweeping aint worth it anymore
- CoV is too laggy
So I'll be doing CoH door missions, and Costume Contests. Atleast my playing choices are simplified. Thank you Devs.
-constructive response-
...
I got nothing. -
I just had another thought: We know that some "Legends system" or some such is in the pipe-line. It's supposed to allow us to make L50 chars stronger. I'd bet that the recent AV/GM and Hamidon changes were in anticipation of that system. If this is the case, then I say why push these difficulty increases to the Live servers now? Why not wait until the Legend system is in place? It's like what they did recently when they changed ToHit Debuff enhancements. Alot of Defs and Trollers took a big hit, until I7 came out 1.5 months later. Why not do them at the same time so the players don't get frustrated waiting to be fixed? I don't get it.
Ofcourse I could be wrong. -
*Whew* Thank you Devs. For a second there I actually thought I'd have to go to one of these raids at some point to check it out. Now I know that I don't. I can just keep doing door missions forever and ever and ever and ever and ever... in which, btw, I will only ever spawn an Elite Boss, not your ramped-up AVs. I apreciate all your efforts to completely destroy any interest I have in certain game content. It makes my playing experience simpler.
/sarcasm
On a serious note: Why do you (the Devs) seem to keep trying to make the game harder? I'm being completely ernest in this question. It seems like you find something that players figure out a strategy for, then try to ramp that up so the strategy doesn't work anymore. Are you balancing against "uber-builds"? Not all of us have those, and how about deleting all the guide posts on the boards instead? Do you think this keeps the game "fresh"? It doesn't. It just makes it frustrating every 3-4 months when things like this happen.
Please stop nerfing player strategy. If we figure out a way to do something, that is NOT a bad thing. -

Too true Mageman, too true. I even got booted off a team when I tried to suggest tactics or kept asking "who's leading?" which the usual response was dead silence or one time someone said "everyone". I was playing my Kheldian on Protector and constantly had to change to Dwarf to help save teammates instead of blasting in Nova. They did the exact same thing you mentioned on a pull. No one would wait around the freaking corner and the team wiped 3-4 times just at the beginning of the mission. The other tank on the team tried to make suggestions and got kicked as well. If they had a different tactic they were using before with success they sure didn't communicate it to the team.
Both I and the other tank got onto another team with someone who actually lead and had much better results.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think we see situations like this way too much. Part of it is the lack of pulling, and part of it is too high of a difficulty setting. When I see a L11 FF Defender in th Hollows set on Invincible, I wanna cry. A not to all: Purple Trolls are baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad! -
[ QUOTE ]
States, i know CoV needs content to fill in the end game now. I accept that.
I have no issue with MOST of the content being CoV only.
I do however not see a reason to give Brutes yet another armor set, for a total of six, while the tankers have been complaining of their primary just having 4 options since release.
Energy aura should be given to tankers simply because we already have energy melee.
And electric armor should also be there, it fits perfectly with the elemental nature of all tankers (other than invuln).
I also know that brutes do need more offensive sets since they have less than tankers, so i do realize them, but also think warmace, axe and broadsword should be available to them, maybe with a bit diferent art.
PLEASE dont ignore the tanker's lack of armor sets any longer! I know shields are comming but that is
A) far away
B) still short of what brutes have
C) still no synergy set for Energy Melee despite it already existing.
Just giving tankers energy aura and maybe hopefuly electric/electric would alone make many think this ACTUALLY has CoH content AND at the same time will fill one of the long time tanker issues.
If the sets exits i see no reason why they cant fit a tanker with just a bit of training room testing.

QFT!
I was about to post the same exact argument. I shoulda figured that someone beat me to it. Cool.
Give Tankers a little love for crying-out-loud! -

Maybe I'm crazy, but isn't telling a cold domination corruptor to skip a shield like telling a bubbler not to take a bubble? Ludicrous.....

No shields for me either. I wanna play a damager/debuffer, not a shielder. My slows and holds will keep you safe, don't you worry. -
<Lord Recluse>*stands at a massive computer display of Paragon City, hands clenched, eyes tight, sweating heavily*
<Ghost Widow>*enters* "What's wrong my Lord??? Has the Wretched Statesman doen something?
<Lord Recluse>*voice shaking* "No... I just... really have to go #2, but I can't fit on the toilet... with these stupid spider arms on my back! WHOSE IDEA WERE THESE FRIGGIN THINGS ANYWAY?!?!" -

So did he become a sword user at the end of the series, or was that just a good luck charm?
[/ QUOTE ]
Could be an accolade.
[/ QUOTE ]
I figure he re-rolled himself as a broadsword scrapper to use War-Witch's sword. Hence the "Level 15 Scrapper looking for team!". In the comic Apex musta been a higher level to fight all of those AV's.
On a different note, thanks to Manticore for acknowledging this thread and everyone's opinion. I really believe that the Dev's in this game are trying to make the whole CoH experience as good as it can be & 1 indicator of that is their communication with the players.

Well said, Mockingbird_V.

The new version seems to reflect higher level of production. It does start a bit abruptly. It feels like I picked up a comic book off the rack in the middle of an on-going series. I'd feel more lost if I wasn't already familiar with the characters, at least somewhat. It seems that the intention of the writers might have been to start off with impact, but they may have overdone it. I found that a lot of story was presented within very few pages. It was more like I was reading a synopsis than a fully developed story.
[/ QUOTE ]
Like giving a grand total of 1 PAGE to the origin of Statesman. Pathetic.
[ QUOTE ]
The other problem is that these epic heroes are brought down to earth too quickly. In fact, it's worse than that. In the very first issue we're told these heroes have some fairly large character flaws, and that they don't seem to get along particularly well. Everyone seems to be bitter. That sort of thing is better woven into the story over time, so that readers are able to connect with the characters and really understand their point of view.

Amen. -

I think the reason I'm not really digging it so far is that it's just too much story for the first arc. It's hard to care about how the heroes are acting in this situation because I don't know how they act normally. I think if they had taken a few issues to show us the Freedom Phalanx during business as usual, who they are and how the react to each other, I'd get more invested in the story.
I don't know these characters well enough to care about their problems.
[/ QUOTE ]
BINGO! That's my point, they didn't give us any build-up to the events in issue 1 so the whole thing feels way-too-rushed. This story seemes to me to be one that should occur well-after you've really described the normal functionings of Paragon City & it's heroes. Showing a bunch of heroes whacking some Clockwork & Outcasts for 5-6 pages doesn't do this.
Great feedback everyone. -
OK I've been debating saying this, but I might as well.
I am not a fan of the new comic. The story feels extremely rushed to me. Within several pages of issue 1 they took 2 main concepts of CoH (Super Powers & the hospital teleports) & completely turned them on their ears. Then by Issue 2, we've (((SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER))) learned Statesman's origin & gone to another plane of perception to speak to Prometheus to restore everyone's powers. That coupled with the fact that not-one of the heroes is likeable in my opinion or has had any type of substantial development, renders this comic very sub-par so far.
I'll keep reading it since, well, it's like free and stuff (hehe), but I really hope it gets better cause I've been very disappointed so far.
Am I the only one that isn't digging it?
Thanks, -
Here's one I like:
When doing a "Stop 15 <baddies name> mission", & the contact says "You can usually find plenty of Tsoo in Talos Island", & you dont' think you can go there yet or just don't want to, you can go kill them whereever they hang out in the lower level areas. Example: I had a Defeat 15 CoT mission & the contact told me to go somewhere where I knew there would be CoT that I prob couldn't handle in large groups Solo. So I went to King's Row, & blasted 15 CoT offa the rooftops in about 2 minutes. Be aware though that you obviously won't get any XP from the arrests for this since they're such lower level, but you get the mission XP MUCH FASTER, then you can move on. Some missions won't let you do this... the ones that specifically say "Defeat 15 Clockwork in BoomTown" means that you haveto go to BoomTown to do it.
The other thing is that if you use your Powers Tray, once you get enough powers & you want to open the 2nd teir of the tray, go into Option & resize your Windows from 100% to 80-85% if you havent' already done so. Otherwise the tray takes up too much of the lower-right of you're screen.
