Sure, but the minimum point bundle is $5 for 400 points. That would give you two months worth of an invention licence, but you can't purchase 160 points...
Quote:Or to put it simply; I pay more on top of my subscription than I used to, but it's for things I want and I'm getting value for my money so I don't care.
My main worry when they announced that they were going to a hybrid FTP system was that they'd nickle and dime us to death by doing something like making subscribers get what free/premium players do now, and charge for every little extra thing above that. Fortunately they were smarter than that.
As for revenue figures, NCSoft would shut it down if it wasn't giving them sufficient ince and we sure wouldn't be getting this much content every month or so either. -
Quote:Anecdotally, I had a friend sign up for the game to try it out.Incentives yes, effective in terms of drawing in more revenue? Debatable.
So far he's spent $5 to get access to tells and trading/more inf and is going to spend a bit more to get a constume bundle.
I expect there are a lot of "nickle and dimers" out there, that spend a little each month on top of the usual subscribers who carry the freight. -
Quote:I team on Freedom a lot since I'm trying to get a Dark/EM Blaster to 50 for occasional RV shenanigans. I'd say about 80% of my team is on an SOd build and in pugs. I've done countless Phalanx TFs with a mix of VIP and premiums. The premiums fought just as well as everyone else since at most one of the VIPs had IOs. We still breezed most content, from Death from Below to Manticore to the odd newspaper and Hollows run.you rarely see free/premium players in the game and all of them who i have met and even hearing from friends who know free/premium players say that that being free/premium player sucks, yes you can level up to 50 and join teams, but what good of a teammate are you when your crummy SOs are barely letting you defeat a small group of con-yellow NPCs? and dont get me started on actual free players who cant join supergroups or send private messeges, you simply can not enjoy this game without putting some cash into it. and therefore no reason to try and hype up F2P if you barely get any freedom.
Simply allowing free players or just premiums players the ability to use IOs wount hurt in any way, but only improve it for everyone.
No one complained about being underpowered. The worst incident was one player who needed a 5-10 minute break to get new SOs and the rest of the players showered them with inf so it wasn't an issue.
There are all of two (maybe three) times where you will need IOs and accolades:
1)PvP, where the extra 200ish HP and set bonuses help a ton;
2)High end content like Incarnate trials where the buffs are fantastic;
3)Speed runs of various TFs where stuff like stealth IOs and sturdier bulds are great.
Outside of that...you can get most Hamis dirt cheap. Peroxis and Endos aren't going for more than a few million and if you can land a few Nucleoli on the cheap those are great too.
The IO licence is $5 for a month. I get some people are on tight budgets, but it is $5. After a month you can decide whether it's worth getting a full sub to see the shiny high level stuff...or you can keep teaming with most players and punch mobs like before. You should also never get booted off a team for not having IOs so... -
Quote:I've also heard DA drops more VR items than other zones, but given it's a 50+ zone that seems logical. I've obtained purples from DA, trials and a Nemesis invasion (punched a Jaeger, got an Apoc tripleRunning at level 51, or 52, or 53 seems to make the inf flood in. I haven't measured precisely, just noticed my level 51 has half a billion inf and I don't remember doing a lot of marketing. Maybe some kind zombie donated a purple or something?
) of late...no evidence here of any increased purple rates.

Quote:Nonsense.Anyone who actively markets has to be aware of the fact they are taking advantage of people that don't want to deal with the market. The immense amount of salvage on the market listed for 1 inf, the recipes listed for next to nothing aren't being put their by people looking to work the market, or maximize their profits. That is the behavior of people that don't want to deal with the market.
The other day I was hanging about Freedom Atlas Park and joined some PuG level 37 Arena. One guy was on a Kat/SR and wanted to find out more, so I went onto the long spiel and explained he might need such and such an IO, run Hero Tips and you can get them...or cash in Reward Merits on the Market to get more inf to purchase said items.
Though we were just outside the Vanguard base under some huge HVAS, none of us were seized by the SEC and thrown into the brig. Just to point out that if you are actively bidding on something on the Market, you are cognizant of both IOs and the Market. If you are simply dumping all your stuff for 1 then either you have excess stuff or you don't care.
Heck, Dread Shinobi on Champion has about a zillion tricked out alts, knows how to use the Market and STILL lists at 1 when he sells, just so he can get back to playing. And guess what? He STILL makes billions that way.
There is no dark conspiracy afoot. The market is a mini-game like so many others, it cheats nor steals from anyone, simply redistributing wealth and goods with a tax. -
It isn't as useful as KD. It's a situational power that can be absolutely broken in some situations and an irritant in others. Players need to have choices though, so let's leave it at that.
-
Quote:You have travel powers. What foe(s)? And what character are you playing?
Math is needed for that situation however. If you knock the foe away from your heavy hitting melee attacks, what have you really bought. For example.
Energy/Energy Blaster. You knock a foe away, they are no longer in range of Energy Punch, Bone Smasher and Total Focus. Bone Smasher and Total Focus do more damage than any of the blasts except the Sniper (and knock doesn't buy you enough time to use that). Energy Punch activates faster than ANY blast attack and Bone Smasher is faster than the T2 and T4 blasts. And by moving them away from you, you're giving up the chance for the VASTLY more powerful stun secondary effect.
So I'm not ready to acknowledge that you're better off in the situation you posit.
You KB them away, hop over and while they are in the 1-2 second "getting up" animation you finish them. Same thing in Keyes, just propel them away from terminals and you don't even need to kill them. Same thing in Underground...knock away the mobs from the Crystals and you just clear them with impunity.
Not to mention you can just use map geometry to almost cheat through KB. Flip a mob against a mob and it is rendered ineffective until you finish it. Overkill against minions but useful against Bosses and even Elite Bosses that may not have KB protect.
KB is fine and useful. I'll echo my friend that would like a +KB Interface proc...you're never, ever getting up. -
Quote:You can run but you can't hide Z.I know that I'm especially excited as the prospect of building a new Community from the ground up is a challenge I'm looking forward to (I'm not going anywhere, I'm in charge of all of Paragon's Communities
)
Your only hope is that this new startup has no PvP engine...
-
Sorry to see you go.
You only really "need" IOs for PvP and super high-end content though...everything else is still pretty much a lark. -
Quote:Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah son.
I still like the main Eden trial map. Nothing like it in the game. Huge, very organic, giant bones scattered here and there, it's just incredible looking.
And PvPing on that thing with 8-person teams? The best EVAH.
Hess map very cool though. -
Quote:http://www.straferight.com/photopost...e-facepalm.jpgJust want to be devil's advocate and throw out there that my level 41 Sonic/Sonic defender has been kicked from 11 teams to date (Yes, I keep count so I can boggle at the stupidity) because she doesn't have a heal.
On topic:
Holyshitgodyes. I can finally roll a Stormie or use my peacebringer more effectively? MY BODY IS READY.
Wow. -Res stacked with +RES and status protection...some people just don't get the idea behind buffs eh? -
- The pets just die way too easily.
- Mobs ignore pets and beeline me.
- Mobs throw AoEs and even if I disperse pets using the point and click and other tools, they die and need to be respawned, leaving me at 0 end.
- The AI is horrid...I try to heel them and they keep attacking. I tell them attack, hopefully from range and they close for melee.
- They explode on trials.

Bringing Dark/EM Blaster (IOd, HP Accos, Tier 3 Reactive, Musculature, T2 Judgment) -
Really curious about the summer blockbuster event...it looks like two different movies you can play through, incorporated into a kind of interactive movie theatre. Crazy stuff, would love more details about this and whether it is interactive, badges involved and so on.
Edit: Snooping around Facebook GG is implying there isn't any interaction from our own characters and it's just another NPC playthrough. Super lame if so...we got zero rewads outside a badge for the DA personal arcs. Let our own characters be the movie stars in these, have $character be on the marquee. -
Crushed this.
Had 24 show, including a bunch of Incarnates. Congrats to everyone on their badges. -
Quote:Sadly I missed this because we're doing the IMDB Top 250 until we get sick of it. Last Friday was Rear Window and Yojimbo, both were excellent but I felt like sticking Cagney's free leg in his mouth.I might show up.
There are a few people on champion I'd like to throw fire at.
Yes, Kara, I'm talking about you.
If I get home early next Friday I'll hop on my Grav/TA and join in. My Blaster is nowhere near ready so... -
I agree with most of the artlcle. Let's face it, this game just doesn't have a lot of repeat appeal going for it once you have played it three our four times. Sure a Controller plays different from a Blaster and a Stalker plays different from a Defender but in the end it is the same maps seeded with the same enemies and unless you make your own fun it gets old really, really quickly.
On top of that, You have the population spread across 10-12 servers...and it gets lonley pretty fast. Going Rogue split thinkgs up even more...people met in Praetoria then a bunch headed to heroside and the few others redisde and saw even fewer people and then either unsubbed or went blueside.
It's a fun game...I used to stay for the PvP but even that can't gain much of my attention now (though i weirdly keep making and Accoing and IOing toons "just in case") but Freedom has been great. Even if you just have a bunch of people logging in to try and getting on sewer runs it still does have new accounts being created and more life than before... -
/cleartrays command after a Respec, so useful...
-
If you are looking for a sg/vg, try to find a fairly active one...and concentrate on blueside since most of the activity is over there.
Good luck. -
Quote:I know...well I hada friend that used to game with his family. The main one had a Fire/Fire Tanker that just logged in to farm Freaks day in and day out, then run high level TFs. He said (and I have no reason to dismiss him) that he had around 3 billion sitting across alts because "he did not trust the markets to be stable and not crash" in his own words. I myself have inf across a bunch of alts.So where is it then? There's no such thing as a hidden bid. If the bids exist, they exist in an item I haven't seen yet, or the markets have a serious display bug in the bid counters. But I'm open to corrections. Its not hard to spot places a lot of people stuff bids to hold influence, and they only have thousands, not hundreds of thousands, of bids.
Also, this is just a projection of the influence in the markets, not the game as a whole. The presumption made is often that the influence we can estimate in the hands of player characters (or the devs might be counting) could be only a tiny fraction of the total. But that doesn't seem to be the case. The amount in the hands of players could, by the devs numbers, be on the order of 50 to 100 trillion. I was just trying to discount the idea that another 300 trillion might be in the markets. I can't find anywhere for those hundreds of trillions to be.
Remember that there are items that can no longer be produced such as Base Salvage which have bids on them. I personally have made "accidental fortunes" logging legacy alts, placing base salvage on the market for 1 Inf then getting 50 million times a bunch. That's not even counting level 1-49 HOs or SHO bids, level 53 bids...there is a LOT of inf out there. Right now I'm purpling/PVPIOng a future level 50 Dark/EM Blaster and my liquid inf has dropped slightly below 5 billion...guess I'll have to throw a bunch of purples on the Market or sell some crafted IOs...
Again, TLDR: Inactive accounts ftw. I recall @xxBudweiser23xX (or was the 23 even in there...) had close to a trillion across his 11 accounts before he went F2P...and stopped playing altogether. -
Hey if you have access to Rice's account can you check if he has spare Glad Strikes? I need four for my Dark/EM Blaster >.>

8 PM Eastern - Saturday May 12th
Amy said she was out of town that day in League chat and not running Master runs.
Let's get together in First Ward and get the badges...never done this but I imagine we need Clarion to offset confusion, Rebirth to offset -Regen and whatnot. As I said, my only experience with it was when Devs spawned the seedlings in Atlas one day...so I'll defer to others on strat but will run this.
No objection to people bringing lower level toons but the more Incarnates in the attempt the better/faster it will go.
See you there. -
-
Actually, you can.
I've seen groups with Group Fly or Ouroboros Portal bridges and fly up to the ships and destroy them. There is a Youtube for it...here it is on Champion:
