No. Read the first post again. The Bus is the power leveling part of the analogy, people can ride the bus, get there the fastest and never learn to drive.
Also I never claimed it to be a perfect analogy, just an analogy that was better than the over simplified two lane thing.
I understand the analogy just fine, and I can use it just fine.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, so it does mention a bus -- I had to ctrl+f for it.
In all honesty your entire analogy got ejected before short term memory whilst I was reading it; it wasn't
particularly succinct.
Edit:
ICF_Zombra, I think you're greatly underestimating the token economy and its role in a massively multiplayer game. Also, I would most certainly resent a developer of an MMO changing the rewards I garner from doing something for the sole purpose of encouraging me to do something else. I pay the company for access to their service as a whole, not to be railroaded into other parts of their service as suits their whims. I highly doubt that your argument explains why that particular nerf was put in place and I am dubious of the assertion that it even factored into the decision making process. -

I have had people complain about dialog a few times. But it is mostly dialect, ie the use of "ain't", "gonna", "fixin' to", and "ya'll". I guess because I don't use "yous guys" they don't like it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just point them to the entry on "Y'" in the OED.
Of course your syntax should be solid before you attempt to type with a dialect and, looking at your post, I can see why people might take issue with your use thereof. -
[ QUOTE ]
never said it was. In fact in my analogy the carpool lane, ie power leveling lane was just fine (it got you there the fastest and you didn't have to even learn to drive). the forestry road is the analogy for the MEOW team/exploit road.
Maybe my analogy could have been clearer, but nowhere did I say that power leveling was wrong, only breaking the rules to get somewhere faster was.
[/ QUOTE ]
So -- if I take the carpool lane I don't know how to drive?
Remember (and this goes for everyone, not just the person I'm responding to): If you don't understand analogies then don't use'em. It's like a forklift and Christina Aguilera riding a golf cart. -
[ QUOTE ]
If there's some objective definition handed down on a stone tablet by some divine being, please direct me to it and I will withdraw everything I've said.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's a huge, sociological can of worms I would absolutely love getting into with you, yet I know it would be an unwarranted and undoubtedly unwanted digression from the theme of this thread.
Like I said, "There's nothing wrong with [arcane, subjective interpretations]; I just would've hoped that somebody would have taken a step back, looked around and said, 'Hey -- we haven't even defined what we're arguing over. This is stupid.'"
I would, however, posit that your definition is a tad weak if only because one of the core, driving concepts behind MMOs is the token economy. Extricating the token economy from game play is, I believe, in bad form and ultimately fruitless. -
[ QUOTE ]
So, if you got two peoples that disagree about the definition of a word, would that make them different factions? Or are they of opposite alignments?
This stuff is hard.
[/ QUOTE ]
I do not believe that a single person can constitute a faction, alignment, group or class. -
[ QUOTE ]
My guess would be around 120-130, although to be honest I wasn't keeping close track until that message appeared.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then the system is probably working fine; I would bug report it (or make a visible thread about it on the forums) and not worry about it.
Well, I would report it and make damned sure to keep a tally of tickets gained in a mission referenced against tickets gained at the end of the mission -- but that's just me. -

[ QUOTE ]
I thought this might be a good discussion, and so far it has been =).
And I want to add something, to just a few in the front that failed to read my whole post.
I "Love Feedback", and when people tell me that I have spelled something wrong I go and I fix it, I really do try to spell everything I can correctly, as well as have friends proof it for me before I publish it.
But when someone tells me they rated my arc lower because I had a Boss name spelled with a ' in it and it shouldn't be, as well as I had "to" instead of too, but they loved the story, I think that is going way overboard.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're asking for criticism on the internet.
What, exactly, did you expect?
My advice: Don't care about the ratings and be thankful for the help. -
[ QUOTE ]
The character I played with is not under any level pact, either.
The point being, assuming that the ticket cap is 1500 consistently, there is no way that an indoor solo warehouse mission on a small map ought to invoke any ticket cap at all. Either the message is being displayed in error (in which case it may cause a great deal of needless fuss) or the cap is being miscalculated.
[/ QUOTE ]
Looks like the former; any idea how many tickets you got from the run itself? -
[ QUOTE ]
Helping someone with grammar is always good so long as you aren't a big meanie head about it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Someone put this on a billboard.
Don't ever be offended when someone corrects your spelling, syntax, pronunciation or grammar. Just tell'em, "thank you" with a smile. -
[ QUOTE ]
Certainly fighting mobs while exploring to enjoy the combat itself is not something I would consider farming -- by my definition.
[/ QUOTE ]
Totally agree, heart_fr. What this kid is doing is the exact opposite of farming - fighting bad guys because they are there, not because it's a chore that must be endured in order to get xp.
[/ QUOTE ]
So if it is enjoyable it isn't farming? If so then I've never farmed in CoH ever.
I'm sorry, but the community seems to have decided that farming is some sort of arcane, subjective idea open to hundreds of interpretations. There's nothing wrong with that; I just would've hoped that somebody would have taken a step back, looked around and said, "Hey -- we haven't even defined what we're arguing over. This is stupid."
Then I imagine them getting up and walking away from their computer. They make their way through their apartment to the front door. They aren't in any rush. They walk out the front door and squint as the Sun tears into their retinas. Dazed, they look around. As the Sun blindness fades they behold and begin to weep. It's so beautiful it hurts. They drop to their knees and weep. They weep for all they had lost and all those that remain lost.
As they kneel there, weeping, a dark cloud moves over the Sun. At first it is naught but a speck upon the face of our mighty star, but soon it grows to be a blight threatening the face of our life giver. In seconds it is black.
Our hero, tormented and conflicted, looks upon the descending shadow and utters his last words.
"My God -- ninjas." -
It is no longer possible to have the Mission Completion ticket reward be greater than the total number of tickets gained before mission completion.

Thought this might make another good discussion.
So were do you stand on feedback from grammar Elitist?
I'm all for feedback, especially if it concerns things I can fix. But when you receive feedback on things like "I love your arc, but I had to give you a lower rating, because you spelled a Bosses name with a ' in it, or it should have been "Too", not To...
And how many times will you go back and fix minor details like that on a published arc? once, twice, 3 times?
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are atrocious arcs out there with horrible grammar, but if I like the story, I'm not gonna lower their rating due to a few spelling errors, but I'll give them feedback so they can fix it.
And if its minor things, I don't even bother.
Where do you stand on this?
And again, I just thought this might make a good discussion for this board
[/ QUOTE ]
You should work on your commas. -
[ QUOTE ]
Oops. Someone took me seriously again. Gosh darn it, I need to be more careful!
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, don't worry. I don't take you seriously at all; I was just hoping you or others might learn a few things.
Over these past, few days back in game I've noticed a rather startling preponderance of lackluster English skills from the player base as a whole. -
[ QUOTE ]
Why play a kin if you don't wanna SB people?
[/ QUOTE ]
To have fun? -
[ QUOTE ]
That's like asking which tire is best without stating on what car its going on.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait -- what?
That's just -- wow, just wow.
Remember the old adage: If you don't understand analogies, don't use them. It's like a honey badger and a vanilla shake from McDonalds. -
As per The New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary Thumb Index Edition:
Alignment:
4. Bringing into (esp. political) agreement or alliance; a grouping of parties, powers, etc.
Faction:
2. A group or class of people; spec. a (self-interested or turbulent) party, esp. in politics
Are villains not a group (A number of people or things regarded as forming a unity or whole on the grounds of some mutual or common relation or purpose, or classed together because of a degree of similarity) or class (A group of people or things having some attribute in common) of people? -
My pandamen.
Tiny, cute, little men in panda outfits that worship the great Ailuropoda (a cookie to anyone that gets the joke) and wage unending war upon the peaceful Red Pandamen.
Then I got bored of them and opted not to bother to actually create a story about them -- now they exist in my farm map and do pure fire damage (as opposed to them being claws/claws).
They're still damned cute though. -
[ QUOTE ]
You guys are playing the wroooooooong arcs. Or more correctly, you're not playing the right ones.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which are the "right" arcs? -
[ QUOTE ]
A question: if the Devs publicized a Speed Limit, and actually said 'garnering rewards faster than x/y is too fast', and if that Limit were somewhat smaller than what you can hit now, would you quit or just edge really close to the limit?
[/ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't change my behavior in any way. -
[ QUOTE ]
See, that's what I don't get... what fun bits are you talking about?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm debating putting that in my signature -- I think it rather thoroughly sums up why the Devs are against power leveling and farming. -
[ QUOTE ]
You say that like it's a bad thing that CoH has a different model (business or otherwise) than WoW...
[/ QUOTE ]
Well that's arguable, but I was taking issue with you using general terms instead of speaking specifically about CoX. -
[ QUOTE ]
Last time I checked, Games were supposed to be a recreational activity. Playing a game "efficiently" tends to turn the activity to a monotonous grind which to me resembles a job on an assembly line.
Oddly enough, if a lot of people gravitate to the assembly line, the Devs respond by changing the game and making the parts the assembly line focused on even less appealing for casual players as a result of the Devs' effort to return the assembly line workers back to their normal level of productivity.
In other words, people who play MMO's efficiently tend to show the Devs what in the game should be modified so that the casual gamer can play the game without feeling inferior to those so-called Efficiency Experts.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is the exact opposite of WoW's business model. -
[ QUOTE ]
Reread my post. NPC's selling set recipes would be a result of the game losing the farming community.
Brain. Hi how are you?
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, so because both your post and the OP are vaguely related to farming it makes plenty of sense for you to rebut an opinion nobody has expressed and make statements that are in no way, shape or form related to what we've been discussing?
Fine by me, I'm happy to continue to bump this thread with you; I welcome further, intelligent input on the original subject. -
[ QUOTE ]
Finding the most efficient way to spend time to maximize rewards has nothing to do with farming...brilliant.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok -- so you've made one of the necessary, illogical leaps from "How to maximize ticket gain" to "I think the Devs should have NPCs sell us IO sets" -- where are the others?
