  1. looking forward to enjoying my ar/dev blaster again....
  2. add a handful of lightsticks and you've got a (bad) rave flyer.

I didn't like crotchless Statesman, I'm less than a fan of contortionist Penny and blue Manbearpig, but this one is borderline embarrassing.

Well, the dumpster is definitely what drove Jack round the bend.
I still recall that rant of his.
  5. yeah, I had a whole PILE of tokens when i returned, in spite of not having spent a penny on the Paragon Market.

    It was pretty great.

I think my all time favorite was street sweeping in Perez when a tank came through herding the entire map- when he had them all gathered up at the end of the horseshoe a blaster pal of his nuked the entire pile.

    Ah, the good old days!

Not that I'd trade them for the modern game, goodness no....but map herding was a great big pile of fun.
  8. On that one super duper fun Sutter, we had a problem where the contact refused to admit we'd completed the previous mission- the leader had to log out and the player who got the star had to talk to the contact, then the guy who had been leading logged back on.

    smh

    Okay!
Enough about my misadventures running task forces, time to give the readers what they really want- stories about my son! =P

Here's some of the stuff we've done over the past week or so:

1: Run across every inch of monorail track in Steel Canyon...VERY SLOWLY.
He would get really mad when we'd fall off, so I ended up using nothing but Sprint.

2: Defeated every wannabe purse snatcher in both Atlas Park & Steel Canyon. Also, if they know what's good for them the Circle of Thorns will stay the heck away from Gimry Ridge!

"Dada look, that guy's pulling on her PURSE! Let's stop him!"
"Oh no, what are those pointy guys doing to that lady!"

Which is just an expression of my own inner dialogue- I have *always* felt a twinge at ignoring street crime, however high level the character is. So while it does make navigating to a tip mission in a low level zone more time consuming, I don't really mind it.

3: Wandered around Croatoa endlessly looking for his new favorite thing in the game, "pumpkins disguised as TREES!"

Well, his favorite until Eochai wandered past, anyway.

"DADA, DADA LOOK AT THE GIANT PUMPKIN GUY!"
    "Oh wow, he's really big!"
    "Let's got look at him!"
"Well, we can't get *too* close."
"Why not? He isn't our friend?"
    "No, afraid not."
    "Can we bonk him, then?"
"He's too mean for us to bonk- do you want to get some friends to help us?"
    "YEAH!"

So I threw a flare out into the LFG channel and darned if I didn't get a whole team's worth of interest!

My son was super excited by this, and made me go look up close at all of our "friends" as they arrived.

"What HIS name! What's he do? Is he going to HELP us?"

When the full squad was assembled we went on the attack, although I was little more than a remote-controlled camera for my son.

"Get closer! Look at his FACE! What's on that side of him? Now back up!"

Thanks to toggle debuffs I still like to think I pulled my weight, but I didn't bring much offense to the table. =P

Got the badges, saw some cool characters, and it was yet another demonstration of the efficacy of the LFG channel.

I don't know why I didn't think of Croatoa earlier- Halloween is by far his favorite holiday. His only disappointment was that Ray was too high level to aggro the "pumpkin trees", but I did fine a workaround- if I punched a Tuatha and dragged it over, the 'trees' would come alive to fight their mortal enemy.

But the next time I get someone around Croatoa level, I'm heading over to run the story arcs- I think he'd get a kick out of them.
  9. OMG WHAT THEY'RE SELLING VANITY CONVENIENCE POWERS ON THE MARKET?!?

    When will this madness stop!

    =P
  10. okay, I'll send along a couple hundred million this evening to split up however you like.

    Welcome back!
  11. I enjoy IOs, but I don't generally make a religion of them.
The majority of my characters get by on generics, augmented by highly useful stuff like Karma -KB, Miracle +rec, Celerity +stealth, and the occasional proc.

I do have a few heavily IO'ed level 50s, but they're the exception rather than the rule.

    A few general observations:

If you want to start IO'ing before you hit 50, you're going to run into supply problems. Given the speed people level at these days and the fact that all of the serious farming takes place at level 50, there just isn't much IO supply at the lower levels.

Example, I've been messing around with Cathode Ray, my beam rifle/radiation corrupter. He would be an obvious beneficiary of high ranged defense, he's got a lot of single target ranged damage attacks, so the Thunderstrike set was an obvious fit.

The problem was his level when I started shopping- 28.
Supply of those recipes & even crafted IOs in the 30-ish range was negligible.
I've been actively working on this project for several weeks now, spreading lavish bids across multiple levels, and I've only managed to fully slot two powers.

I got him up to 40 on 2xp weekend, which will make things easier, but the rule of thumb is the higher the level, the easier a time you'll have finding the stuff you want.

As for what to slot, I usually start with the question "what makes sense?"

For Ray, who's all about range and debuffs, ranged defense was obvious.

Pretty much any character will benefit from global recharge, so that's another thing I look for.

Recovery is another biggie- I don't seem to play any end-light sets, so +rec set bonuses are always welcome, along with pricey trinkets like the Miracle & Numina uniques.

I really like the option to stealth a mission, so everyone gets a Celerity + stealth.

And I hate knockback like poison, so *all* of my squishies get a Karma -KB.

For more complicated stuff, grab Mid's and fiddle around, but you can get quite a bit of extra performance just using my half-***** "slot stuff that sounds good" approach.
  12. This is a slap in the face!!!

    oh wait, what?

    =P
  13. I'll second /devices, god help me.

Caltrops is invaluable for keeping enemies away and come I24 Targeting Drone will give you 'insta snipe' at will, making this terrific single target set even better. Targeting Drone isn't great, but it's a nice set mule and the buff that made it instant-cast means it's useful to pop out in an emergency to distract enemies with.

Now all they need to do is spruce up Trip Mine & Time Bomb and I'll have run out of things to whine about!

this fan doesn't expect anything in particular from week to week.

over the course of a month, yeah it's nice to get genuinely new stuff.

This week I'm VERY HAPPY to get the fish parts, which I have coveted since seeing them used to good effect in the 'post your best costume' thread.
  17. I'll send you some inf when I get home.

What's the cap on Freemium accounts?

The last time I tried this they had to send it back because they couldn't claim it.
  18. Having run one of these awful wastes of time recently in pursuit of the accolade, I officially <3 this thread title.

However with lots of inspiration use (including team inspirations) and a team with good morale we did complete it. It took us about two hours for the entire TF and we all died a lot but we did win through (which probably says more about our stubbornness than intelligence).
On this team I was seemingly the only one who had ever played the game before, or made enough characters to have a loose grasp on the concept of a "strong build". Or even an "okay build".

During one of our futile assaults on the AV, who was by that time surrounded by about ten million Sky Raiders, I suggested that maybe we could pull some of them to make it a bit easier on ourselves.

"What?" replied fearless leader, charging in.

Maybe I finally ran across one of those teams of DFB Babies that urban lore speaks of, characters in their 30s who don't know what a monorail is?

Here I must cop to not having read the OP.

I didn't read the OP because the poster has been on my ignore list so long I've forgotten why. Combining that fact with the title of the thread I reached a conclusion about the rough value of what I'd be likely to find if I pulled aside the curtain.

Having sorted through the respondents, I find that posters rallying in support mostly fall into a certain demographic, as do those in opposition. They break down in such a way that I'm reasonably comfortable sticking with my first impression, which is that were I to click that little "read post" link it would reveal a steaming, elephantine pile of entitlement so redolent of assumed privilege even a British peer would recoil in polite horror.

    But I guess YMMV.

No need to switch characters, just list for 1 inf more than the hoover.

I'll always take 100k over 50k for the exact same effort, but I suppose in the grand scheme of things it doesn't make any difference. 50k, 100k, 1m, 10m, it's all pocket change for anyone who uses the market as more than a dumping ground for drops.
