Yes, bad directing or bad editing will kill a film.

Re: Tron/Rinzler, and other overall plot arcs I thought of...

He said it himself: "Clu left me with scars that will never heal." (I think that's the line. It's very close.) I take it to mean this: He's slowly being 'eaten alive', if you will, by the Clu rewrite and he's destined to become Rinzler. (as has been suggested)

BUt... I think Flynn's the one keeping the Rinzler code at bay. Flynn IS THERE, remember... he never got out when Clu attacked Tron. We'll see him sometime, and probably at next season, if not the cliffhanger the end of the first.

I also think Beck is destined to be derezzed, and I imagine it will be when the ISOs are destroyed by Clu, as he'll be fighting 'the system' there, probably leading the defense. Then 'boom', and he's done. Oh, but his big thing is he's gonna save Quorra as his last heroic thing. A la Tron telling Flynn to get out.

And it's a possible that Flynn will have to come to grips about his friend, Tron, by finally admitting there's nothing else that can be done, in effect having to release Rinzler. But what will be worse is he'll have to in effect kill or lobotomize Tron, so that Flynn's whereabouts aren't known by Clu when Rinzler becomes dominant, and Clu's puppet. This part is less 'for sure' for me as a guess, but I'd think it'd be a great twist sometime in the series. Of course, that's assuming the above involvement with Tron.

My issue with this possible is this: Flynn says "Oh, Tron... what as Clu done to you?" in the 2nd movie. (Paraphrased.) This can be explained away as something like Flynn is aghast, if you will, at how far 'down' the Rinzler program has taken Tron, farther than he would have guessed.

The series endings will be maybe a 3 parter. Flynn will see Tron get turned, and see the ISOs being taken out. Beck, the last best hope, is no more... He'll have a new mouth to feed, if you will, with Quorra... His 'inward turn' begins, the series ending with a soliliquy by him, lost in his thoughts... and on the Grid.

Overall, though, I bet I'm right and it's just details of these characters from here on out. The 'end' for Beck and Tron can come at any time they want the series to end, and it'll flow right into the movie, and that pretty well.

/Oh, and Beck and the bad girl will become an item. Watch.
    Interesting ideas you have.

However as I recall from Legacy, Flynn never saw Tron/Rinzler again after Clu's betrayal until Sam came into the Grid. So is Flynn keeping the Rinzler code at bay? Maybe. But I think that if Flynn can access and repair Quorra's source code in the movie that he could fix Tron's damaged code and use TRON's disc to basically rerez TRON and heal him. So while it is possible that Flynn is aiding TRON in this cartoon at the moment, I don't think that will be the case.

Flynn did state that CLU somehow fed on Flynn's resistance and grew stronger, not quite sure what that means unless CLU was absorbing and reprogramming any program that Flynn sent after Clu. Flynn is hiding somewhere and should appear when the great ISO purge occurs as he does help save Quorra.

As to Flynn, the Grid is his creation and he seems to have better knowledge on his user powers then he did in TRON, the fact that he couldn't stop CLU or decimate CLU's armies by something like calling down lightning upon them or something is rather astounding.

As to CLU, what makes him so formidable is that he is a program spawned directly from Flynn within the Grid, in essence Flynn copied his source code/bios into the CLU program so CLU is a user/program hybrid which evidently puts him above even TRON. Had Flynn been able to spawn another copy of himself programmed with the prime directives of: Always obey Flynn and TRON, the other directive of DESTROY CLU and then sent that program after CLU, things may have turned out different. But Flynn probably can't do that again or doesn't want to risk it again.
  4. The Lynda Carter Wonder Woman series definitely hasn't aged that well, but then again I don't think many people watched it then or now for the "emmy award winning episodes" or "cutting edge FX tech" or "fantastic acting". Call it a hunch

The Flash TV series, I liked it then and now. From an FX stand point it has aged a bit but is still good. The acting was okay, but I felt it was a nice adaptation of the Barry Allen Flash. Also I liked the irony in the pilot movie where despite his super speed he was still too late to save his brother. The series suffered from a lot of preempting for Persian Gulf coverage then it bounced from time slot to time slot which is usually the kiss of death for a show.

Birds of Prey: nice try, bad results.

Also if you want to talk about super hero shows that haven't aged well, let us not forget The Greatest American Hero. (as much as we may want to)

In terms of animation; Marvel tried for years and had a few diamonds in the rough.

The Spiderman cartoon of the 60's (the one with the classic theme song)
The Spiderman cartoon of the 90's (why this is not on DVD in the States eludes me)
The X-men cartoon of the 90's
Season 1 and the first three episodes of the 90's HULK (rest of season 2 turned way too campy for the HULK)
    Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes

Marvel animation duds imo: the 90's Iron Man and FF cartoons, season 1 of each was horrid and despite being revamped for Season 2 the damage was done. Nice Iron Man theme song for Season 2 though. Spider-man Unlimited: nice animation, interesting costume design. But Pokemon trumped it in ratings and it was Marvel's attempt to have their own Batman Beyond. The 80's Spiderman cartoon and Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, both were and are a bit too cheesy, though we did get Firestar brought into the comics from it so it's not a total loss. X-men Evolution: Storm and Wolverine are teachers and Cyclops and Jean are students???? You lost me there. The 90's Avengers cartoon.......W.W.N.S.O.T (WE WILL NOT SPEAK OF THIS)

DC Animation: okay first thing is first: we get past our memories of the Superfriends and other campy 60's DC cartoons like GL, Flash, Shazam (also erase your memories of the live action SHAZAM series, you'll feel better), also please file away your memories of the Adam West Batman live TV show and any cartoons that spawned from it (including that dippy Bat-mite character).

DC animation hits: the entire Bruce Timm DCAU which completely trounces what Marvel has done over the years. Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited. Plus all recent JL animated movies such as Batman/Superman Worlds Finest, Public Enemies, etc.

I think it would be difficult to surpass Titanic and take the #2 spot in this original release of the movie.
Man I would love to see Avengers topple at least one of those two movies.

And although I'm quite sure Dark Knight will make hundreds of millions of dollars it just doesn't seem like it'll be able to seriously challenge Avengers. To be brutally blunt about it I just don't think Anne Hathaway "alive" has the same kind of drawing power that Heath Ledger "dead before the movie" had.

As for the new Spiderman I'll probably end up seeing it but I'm honestly not -that- excited about it. Almost seems like Spidy's gotten a little too much exposure in the last 5-10 years to get me overly hyped about it. By that same line of reasoning if somebody managed to produce a movie that even remotely involved Wonder Woman I'd probably throw a hundred dollars worth of ticket sales at it instantly.
I agree with you about the Dark Knights. As to Spidey, I think it is way too soon to reboot the movie franchise, I would rather see Marvel/Sony kiss and make up with Sam Rami and get him and Tobey back for a fourth Spidey and just give Sam Rami free reign and NOT FORCIBLY have Sam include extra villains (Spidey 3).

As to Wonder Woman in any movie......I just don't see it. Unless DC finally wakes up and tries to interlock their movies like Marvel did and lead up to Justice League, I just don't see Wonder Woman happening. Batman gets rebooted after this Dark Knight movie and supposedly the new Bat movie will interlock with the upcoming Superman movie as a potential Justice League spring board.....but Wonder Woman should get an origin movie unless they fit her in like they did when the JL cartoon started. Also Hawkgirl and GL and Martian MAnhunter may need to be brought in the same way they were in the JL cartoon pilot movie, the Flash should be able to hold his own movie though.

As to what movie could topple Avengers:

    1. Avengers 2

    2. a very well done Justice League but again DC really needs to wake up regarding non-Batman movies.

    3. George Lucas turns Star Wars over to others and authorizes/approves of a complete remake of all 6 movies starting with Phantom Menace. All 6 movies of course have their scripts tuned up a bit to ensure they all fit together nicely and remove or reduce certain absurdities (Jar Jar, Greedo shooting at all.....)

Hm, now this could be part of the problem.

In the Legacy movie, we saw that Tron took down one of CLU's goons and thus gained a second disc, albeit a red one. As Rinzler we see he has two discs: one red and the other has CLU's gold color on it and it looked like as the fight between Rinzler and Sam started that those two balls CLU picked up seemed to act as controls for Rinzler.

I wonder if CLU gets ahold of TRON's ID disc and uses his ability to repurpose programs to block its TRON programming and the RED DISC is the ID disc of RINZLER, the guard that TRON defeated before CLU defeated TRON. Thus Rinzler acts as a shell program to contain and control TRON.

Given the damage we see that TRON has in this episode it looks like only Alan can fix him from the outside or else Flynn needs to use his "user power" to restore TRON. Too bad this never gets to happen. TRON wakes up at the end of Legacy and ends up sinking in the sea as he reverts to blue but we still don't know how damaged he will be when he emerges from the waters.

Overall this will be a fun cartoon to watch even if we know that Beck is pretty much foredoomed to fail.

Well Heath's performance and death definitely gave the Dark Knight a lift. However as with many trilogies, I expect the upcoming Dark Knight to be good and entertaining but also showing signs of the franchise running out of steam as it were.

    Superman 3 and 4

Might be referring to when Red Hulk had first fought THOR and grabbed the hammer (while THOR was still holding it) and took THOR to the moon. Red Hulk had also absorbed some of THOR's energy as I recall.

However while THOR is holding the hammer anyone can grab onto it, but if THOR releases his grip, the worthiness enchantment immediately kicks in and the hammer plunges to the ground.

Also a recent Hulk/THOR fight in the comics had a rather angry Hulk grab THOR's arm and hand while THOR was holding the hammer and proceeded to keep bending THOR's arm back to hit THOR repeatedly in his own face with his own hammer. Hulk wasn't holding the hammer, just THOR's arm which already held the hammer.

But then a lot of the Aesir had children with the jotun of various types and those children were often Aesir themselves. Loki however, only seemed to father monsters (and Hel herself). And Loki also gave birth to Sleipnir, Odin's eight legged horse.
I tell you, some parts of mythology just make so little sense at times. How exactly does a humanoid deity or being like Loki give birth to a horse? OR Zeus appearing as a swan and seducing someone?

Makes one think that some myths are mythstaken.

I fully expect Battleship to sink on its own but I'm sure Avengers will help sink it too.

There were no plans for a third Hulk movie (that I'm aware of) until Avengers blew the box office away.

Flynn lived pretty far off the Grid, so he wouldn't nessarily know what was happening in other cities, and Clu seems like the kind of guy would would keep a tight rein on information (lest the wrong bit mar his perfect world), so he would keep any news of rebellion under wraps.

Tron is harder to explain, though. Maybe he's slowly succumbing to Clu's rewrite? Maybe there was a backup copy of him that got damaged by the rewrite?
Flynn did know an uprising was occurring within and hoped that CLU would be stopped by it, hence his decision to wait and see. Flynn clearly doesn't know that TRON survived CLU's attack until he saw him as Rinzler so right now Flynn is off in his fortress of solitude as it were training Quorra.

As to TRON: that is indeed the question: is this a damaged backup copy or is TRON slowly becoming Rinzler? Oddly we see TRON with only his one disc instead of the second one he obtained in that fight against CLU. Also it looks like he imprinted his source code/bios into Beck with that disc switch recombination that they did, so if TRON's disc contains copies of his undamaged code I would think he could basically "re-rez" himself and be restored to fight again. Also if TRON really is so damaged how he can still fight so well and yet not feel as if he can take on CLU?

    More data needed.

No, that wouldn't match up with the fact that losing his two ID discs and then seeing Flynn afterwards is what jolted TRON's personality to wake up and resist CLU at the end. Also he spoke with TRON's voice and I doubt Beck would voice alter himself.

Spock was at Kirk's grave remembering Kirk's last big adventure before the Enterprise B maiden voyage, an honor guard was to be sent in later to help bring Kirk home for a heroes funeral. At least until an attack force arrived and a ship used its transporter on the grave to steal Kirk's body. Spock began going through the list of Kirk's enemies and began to remove names from it either due to the enemy being dead or incapable of what had just happened, leaving only ones that had the means and motivation to carry out a grudge against Kirk after 80 years. I forget who was left on the list, but I think Harry Mudd and Squire of Gothos were on it along with one or two Klingons, and of course KHAN. Ryker pointed out that Khan was dead, Spock simply said "I know" but left him on the list knowing that Khan's sheer hatred of Kirk could not be dismissed and on the slim chance that the genesis wave regenerated Khan as well.

Possibly, but worthiness is pretty subjective. Back in the old Guardians of the Galaxy series we saw what happened to THOR in the 31st century, how over time living in Asgard he became morose, drank a lot, nearly hit his wife Sif, became more and more of a slob and less a prince until finally one day the hammer detached from his belt and fell to the ground where it remained as he was unworthy. Eventually his son claimed it to fight Loki.

EDIT: Yeah, this is actually paraphrased from Walt Simonson's quote on the Beta Ray Bill wiki page -- the wielder needs to be willing to kill, because this is a weapon designed to kill Frost Giants. However, in that same quote, he said he didn't think Captain America should be able to wield it, because he's a symbol of the US, which would prevent a Norse artifact from choosing him. So you know, it's just whoever the writers feel like letting pick it up.
yes it's all up to the writers, but Steve Rogers was a good man before he got juiced up with the SSS and became Captain America. Ever since that point he has still been a good man, never comprised his ideals, always stood up for the common man, inspired others as a leader, etc. As to the willingness to kill: Cap is a WW2 combat veteran so you can't tell me he hasn't got blood on his hands, but there is the willingness to kill and the thrill of the kill.

Cap doesn't live for the thrill of the kill, he hates killing and for him it is always the last resort so the odds of him abusing the hammer's power are slim to none.

Now Frank Castle or Sabertooth on the other hand should NEVER be able to lift the hammer.

    Tron: Uprising

Okay despite the link problems I was now able to sit and watch the whole thing this time. I still think at the moment that Beck is doomed as per the events of Legacy don't show Beck at all.

Also it was nice to see TRON even if it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense at first. We see in the movie flashback that CLU apparently kills TRON, but it turns out he damaged TRON and then reprogrammed him into Rinzler to serve him.

What we see so far in the cartoon is a badly damaged TRON that shows us he is apparently badly code fragmented and missing parts of his code.....yet we also see that he is apparently Rinzler or at least disguised to make CLU and his army think TRON is dead. Yet for such a damaged and crippled program he was still swatting Beck around with ease despite Beck's efforts. Also I would guess that TRON doesn't know where Flynn is hiding as I would think that Flynn's user powers could heal TRON's damaged code.

To quote the Lost in Space robot: "Does not compute!" More episodes needed to fill in the gaps.
