I laughed.

He's right, I remember it too. Regardless of that, we can still offer to help out players. Hell, it's been six years and I'm still learning things. Nothing teaches better than having an experienced person tagging along with you. Who's to say the tutorial will answer every question a newbie might have? I can guarantee you it won't. That'll be where we come in.
And let me just say that if I went to a new game when it went F2P and was greeted by a throng of long-time game vets saying hi and offering to help me out, I'd be sold on the game almost instantly. -
Pass the star to a friend and have them pass back. Instant fix.

Quote:Could always do it in shifts. We could make an official thread for it (and maybe ask for a mod sticky) and have people post what character they'd be on, what times they'd be available, and what zone they'd like to assist. Example:And how could we arrange something like this?
I'm not one for catering to trolls, but I'm all for helping them new folks. Unfortunately, I can't be at the meeting area 24/7 to help people, and I know there are others out there who might be dedicated to the cause.
Quote:Global: @Insane V
Character: Nalrok Ath'Zim
Zone: Mercy Island
Time Available: 1PM-4PM PST, (Month) (Day), 2011
Help Offered: Greeting, Teaming, Explanation
Edited to add: I'd be happy to organize this once we know a launch date for Freedom. -
Greeting parties in Atlas/Mercy/Nova.
I'm serious. A bunch of vet players with their Helper status turned on. Waving, saying hi, asking if anyone needs help, maybe even offering to run missions with the newbies and mentor them. -
Quote:75% of the people in the Help channel are trolls. When someone tells you something like that, just reply "Do you need help? No? Then stop talking."That was a nice story, especially since I got chewed out this evening by a fellow vet for answering questions in the Help channel. I was told that "don't talk in Help unless you need help." How one is supposed to respond to requests for help via tells when trial accounts (the only ones who seem to use Help) can't receive them is beyond me.

Wait. Johnny and je_saist were arguing and we're all still alive?

Quote:Much as I'd love to come, that's during DXP weekend and I'll probably be out leveling until my eyes bleed.Hey everyone, this is tentative right now, but how would next Saturday, the 13th look for my IC meet 'n' greet? (Mentioned above, the "grand opening" of facilities, high profile, swanky public affair)
I'm planning on a three hour block of time, something like 8-11PM EST.
Sound like a good idea? If so, I'll be making my own thread for it tonight. -

To clarify for recent readers:
The original title and question was something similar to:
How the fudge are you doing? -
Wow, that really cut the life out of this story.
-
This is why I love this game.
You ask someone that in Blizzard's 800lb. Gorilla, and you'll get yelled at in netspeak.
You ask that here, you learn how to play. Blam. -
This is unfortunate because you'll still need that tier 1/2 power to get to what you may really want.
-
That needs to be your sig, Steelclaw. You need to make a picture of your character with the /calculate emote, and put this quote on that image.

Quote:This had better be in the tutorial when Freedom arrives. If I was to give a single piece of advice to a newbie, it would be this:
The journey is more important than the destination.
If you put all of your focus on "leveling up" then you will miss 90% of what makes this game special. There are only so many opportunities to have a "sovereign experience", meaning a first time to experience something in the game.
Treasure them. Take your time. Talk to your contacts. Read the mission text. Don't jump into 8-man groups clearing the sewers and power-leveling to level 50. There's nothing there waiting for you. Well, nowadays, there are incarnates, but even that won't actually mean anything except a whole lot of grinding if you have ignored the entire game in order to get there.
Do your missions. Follow the story arcs. Do your task forces at your level range when you are the right level to do them. The story of Paragon City is YOUR story - the story of your progress from new hero to Hero of the City. Make the most of it and learn the stories of the city. Later, you can make alts and do farming, or bank missions, or whatever. On your first character or two, savor the experience of earning your first cape; completing your first task force; defeating your first arch-villain.
You only get one chance to have a first experience. Make the most of it. -
There is no "best build."
-
Pulling a Statesman: Griping to 7 other people with the same mindset as you that there aren't any teams for a particular TF but refusing to be the one that starts it.
Synapse Flush: Saying "BRB bio" and "Back" in the span of 20 seconds.
Party Packer: That guy who brags about how expensive his build is, only to disappoint when you look at his set bonuses. (I'm looking at you, Marketing Team. I'm looking at you angrily.)
Stuper Speed: Charging in to take the Alpha and crashing out of your game client.
Praetor Keyestroke: Adding that ****ing extra zero to your Black Market bid.
Wishing it was Minecraft: Playing the Cake Cave instance. -
Quote:I'd be all for that, Dechs. I have a level 40 Stalker named Emotionless; he's been looking for a chemist/pharmacist to reproduce the drug that suppresses his emotions. He has a stockpile somewhere in the Isles, but once that stockpile runs out he'll... well, he'll snap like an I-beam punched by the Hulk. The Kaison Corporation would be his first go-to if they opened the doors.Hey Nalrok, sorry to piggy back off of your topic, but since there's a pretty significant number of people in the thread I'm going to take advantage of it.
So I'm thinking of doing a similar event. I plan to invite a ton of people to my main's supergroup base under the IC pretense of a grand opening of his medical facilities.
It's a redside base, so people would need to be rogue or villain to enter. The theme would be very lax, though, as the base is a legitimate medical and research facility with a less than perfectly clean background. Would this prevent interested people from showing up? I figure, at the worst case, people could make a level 1 redside version of their intended character. Is there a time/night of the week that would be most agreeable to all time zones? -
Quote:And on that note, because you're a Brute, you can forego Damage enhancements in the early levels. I recommend slotting your attack powers with Endurance Reduction enhancements:Welcome to City of Heroes HiddenLeafNinja!
I do have a bit of advice on mind that could help you with your brute, or just about any character you make in the future.
I highly recommend that you try to enhance your offensive powers to accuracy first, that would be the yellow enhancements with a cross hair symbol inside it. For the reason being that no matter how much damage it does, it's a waste of endurance and time if the attack misses, which is why slotting your attacks with accuracy generally helps you land at most 19 out of 20 attacks for a less frustrating experience in combat.
If you need any help in game, you can catch me as @Oneirohero
And slot your toggles with their respected resistance/defense enhancements first. Attacks cost more endurance than toggles ever will, so make sure you can keep pumping out power by reducing the energy it takes to do so!
Welcome to City of Heroes/Villains! -

Quote:That was me.Whoever the second Spider was, walked up to the table and emoted pounding on it, saying "Lazy people get up now!" in a Russian accent.
See, I tried to adapt to that bit of RP, roll with the punches, but the immediate reply was "HEY DON'T SMASH THE PIZZA AND BEER."
So I guess I threw a pizza and beer party, all things considered.
