In my defense, I only ever saw a true desire for a Martial Arts secondary after Dual Pistols dropped. Doesn't change the fact that Butane's comment is akin to saying it took man 1800 years to invent the light bulb. There's no truth to that; we just didn't have the right people for the job yet. Same goes for Paragon Studios.
-
No it didn't. Have some common sense. Previous developers did not take on the task; Arbiter Hawk and the powers/animations crew that came Post-Castle/BaBs are the ones who did this. While we may not know exactly how long this set has been in development, it sure as hell hasn't been 8 years. We haven't even been asking for it that long.

Kind of like how replacing all of the Oxygen in the air with Argon wouldn't change the way we use our lungs, right?

Quote:Not what I meant; he said that myself an other posters said the in-game AT descriptions didn't matter. I have never said that.I think something like what he says is in the original CoH manual. It also made mention of Tanker's ranged damage capabilities.
Mind you, thats too old and from a time where the devs didnt consider cast time, and all attacks, in their eyes, were about equally good. So the fact that two tanker sets had Hurl was enough to make this claim "valid" at the time. -
Not once in my time on the forums have I ever said anything of the sort.

Quote:And you wonder why people don't listen to your ideas on 'game balance.'Yeah, I'm prepared to let Blasters have Rage. It'd be a hoot.
Quote:I am compelled be one of the horde of DP/MC blasters in a trench coat.
... oh crap.
Quote:The problem is, Blasters aren't RANGED ATs, they never were. If they were designed as such they never would have been given melee abilities in the first place.
They are DAMAGE ATs, there is no definition of where that damage is supposed to occur at.
You are welcome to play your Blaster at range if that's how you prefer to play it, but saying that they are a ranged AT is incorrect.
The Blaster is an offensive juggernaut. This hero can deal a ton of damage from a distance. But the Blaster must be careful, because he's somewhat fragile compared to other heroes. The Blaster can't stand toe to toe with most opponents at melee for long. His best defense is a great offense!
The Blaster's power sets are:
Primary: Ranged
Secondary: Support
They are primarily a Ranged Damage AT. Kind of hard to argue that when the game itself puts them in the 'from afar' category. -

Quote:The best use of Dimension Shift I've ever seen was to avoid the Obliteration Beam in Keyes-- at the last second a Grav 'Troller dropped it on the people who weren't moving and it completely deflected the beam's attack/hold.I really love Dimension Shift, as unpopular of a stance as that may be. It's one of the craziest, most powerful powers in the game, but only for the kind of player who really gets their enjoyment out of subtle finesse, rather than through big numbers or straightforward victories.

Quote:And now it looks like the warlords you call evil will be helping us in return. No thoughts on that, especially considering how much you've badmouthed the Praetors in the past? For the greater good, we've been helping Praetoria since I18
Quote:If Cole becomes the new statesmen then I call foul because Cole appears to have died horribly.
Also I'll stab Cole in the face until he actually dies horribly and stick him in an E.G.A.D. holding cell for good measure.
EDIT: GG means we have been helping free Praetoria from Cole. So in a way, yes, we have been allied with Praetoria for the greater good, that greater good being killing Tyrant. -
Everything you've said about Praetoria goes against what you said in the above quote. You've said Marauder, Mother, Cole-- all of them evil. Now what are you going to do if we have to work alongside them? What if Cole becomes the new Statesman?
-
Calling it now:
We ally with Praetoria 'for the greater good.'
While I'm sick to the gills of the greater good, I can't wait to see the look on GG's face. -
Quote:What's 75 + 22?So from watching the vid... it was mentioned a few times that snipes will now need 97% to get the insta effect? Wasn't it 22% before? I don't have a problem with this mind you I just want to be sure I didnt misinterpret what was said or miss some sort of dialogue where they announced/explained the jump from 22% to 97%.
75% Base ToHit + 22% Outside ToHit. -
Thanks Ender! I couldn't actually connect until about midway so my writeup would have been incomplete
-
Unfortunately I can't connect today; can someone else handle it?

Quote:Which doesn't actually pertain to the debate. I know what I want. I want more arcs like Dean, Leonard and Ross (sounds like a law firm) wherein my villain, using information from a stupid patsy that he could break at any moment should he choose to, pulls the rug out from under a bunch of big-name NPCs/NPC groups and gets some serious swanks in the process. Did I end up losing everything at the end of the Leonard arc? Yes. But I also got to punch Protean in the face AND the bank account. That whole arc came down to a very unintentional Xanatos Gambit. Keep your army? You win. Lose your army? Punch Protean and steal his money; you win. Protean tries to steal your cloning facility? It blew up; he loses, you win.You haven't thought through the ramifications of what you mean.
But then, one of the first things they teach you in software engineering is that you can't design software (or, I expect, anything else) by asking users what they want. They don't know what they want, only what they think they want.
THAT is what I want. I want my villain to come out the victor and put some other smug jerk in the corner.
Or in the case of Vincent Ross, I help out a ticked off ex-Legacy Chain and end up trashing half the Scrapyarders in Sharkhead with the power he let me get my hands on.
I simply want arcs with a heavier emphasis on victorious, non-idiotic villainy. That's not a sandbox game style. It's just another job for the writing team. I can't even fathom how you came to the conclusion that it COULD be sandboxing. -

Quote:That's not what we're asking for at all and you're so wrong it made me laugh aloud.I never asked them to "stop making me a lackey". I've argued all along that the game is predicated on the assumption that the PCs will be doing jobs for other characters and that can't be changed at this late date. The "proactive villain" faction of users is essentially arguing for a sandbox game which this is not and never will be.
Don't judge people for something you know nothing about. -
Quote:Longbow would probably give the player villain a call and ask them to help subdue Recluse for the greater good in exchange for an Incarnate Slot.An equivalent villain story would be that Recluse tries to rob the First Bank of Paragon City, and Longbow captures him so the player villain has to come in, kick Longbow's posterior and walk out with Recluse and the money. Recluse then says "Thanks, $Player, you're so strong and villainous, that I don't know what I'd do if you weren't around to save me."
How likely is that to happen, do you think? -
And after your team failed to get all that money, they were BROKE, and had to eat GOVERNMENT CHEESE and LIVE IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER.

Quote:Way to **** on the thread, Venture. You can pretend your character is a magical pony who solves problems not with violence but by winning over the hearts of evildoers with his unique blend of family-oriented humor too, but gluing feathers on a rat doesn't make it a swan.
I've said since the Dean MacArthur arc, which started this miserable trend, that having the Contacts act like the PC's fluffer comes off like this. It has not improved with age.
Also speak for yourself, Dean MacArthur is the start of a much better trend in redside writing, unless you actually enjoy being Arachnos's errand boy all the damn time. -
Quote:The only place that things aren't 100% player-oriented is redside, and admittedly the devs are getting much better at writing villainous content. Unfortunately we keep getting dished as heroes at the last minute (looking at you, SSA1).Marketing isn't to blame, you want to look at your fellow players. They're the ones who for years have complained about playing second banana to the Freedom Phalanx, to being lapdogs to Recluse and his Inner Circle. The only thing that's changed is that the devs are now listening to the players.
