  1. I'll be on and off all week, but I want to be there when things shut down, and I hope to see some familiar faces/names. The end may be coming, but perhaps it's the opportunity for new beginnings.

    My Final post

Reinstalled for one last hurrah! I want to be there when the lights go out, and I hope I'll see people I know there, too.

    -Echo Hawk/Amazing Guy-

    Farewell

    Who was I?

I was the freaky Echo Hawk, stalker in the shadows and the deliverer of the two-fisted beatdown.

I was Amazing Guy, Golden Age hero and obtuse but likeable good guy.

I was Brass Maxim, steam-powered time-travelling cyborg from the 19th century.

I was Lord Mandible, purple and green Arachnos renegade.

I was Fist of the Red Dawn, super martial artist.

I was Winter Whisp, cold as the Canadian winter.

I was Lady Nadazdy, mistress of the undead.

I was Full Metal Falcon, assassin from a parrallel universe.

I was Steamhead Jones, heroine in steam-powered battle armour.

I was Brass Catcher, a winged mercenary with an eye for larceny.

I was Forgetfire, fiery mutant who always felt cold, even in the height of summer.

And, I was a friend to many, and I'll miss you all.

    Farewell

*sigh* I just finished rebuilding my machine, and this happens. I'm really sad to see this go. Maybe I'll go to CO or something. Anyway, if you're heading out that way, look for Echo Hawk or Amazing Guy there, as Ill try to rebuild my characters (somewhat) for a different game. It won't be the same, though.

I got through it eventually but had to let the arachnos and BP fight it out first to lessen the lag (it also goes towards the defeats too of BP in that battle mission)
Maybe it's the lag. I did notice some slight slowdown when all that is going on, but I don't remember it being an issue last time I did it. Next time I run it I'll try that and see if it works.
  6. I'm replaying the DA missions and I'm on my final leg of it, and about halfway through the mission when I get dumped to my desktop with no warning. I just get across the bridge where Arachnos is engaging the forces of Mot and then... crash. I first chalked it up to one of those odd bugs and restarted the mission, but at the same point it did it again. Note that I never had this problem the original run.
  7. RAM replaced. Problem FIXED.

    The game is now behaving.

Everything has been tested. Both hardware and software is working correctly.

Edit: upon my insistance, I got my spouse to get me a different hardware scanning utility, and it seems that a bit of the RAM is bad. I bought a couple of new sticks and we'll see if the problem goes away.
  9. After beating down all other paths, it looks like what this is, is a buffering issue. The game goes out of sync with what is on my hard drive, causing the pigg files to become corrupted or read as such. I have no idea what to do to fix this, nor any idea why it suddenly became a problem only recently when I've been playing on this hardware for months with no problems.
  10. It looks like it's a drivers issue, but the problem is I can't get the updated drivers to install. The driver version installed right now for my ATI Radeon HD 4600 is version 8.831.2.0. I have the update package (12.1) but nothing I do seems to update it- I've tried uninstalling the old package and drivers first, updating the drivers and so forth, but nothing takes. Any ideas?

Edit: that apparently IS the current drivers. Hmmm.
  11. The problems continue. I have a brand new hard drive, a complete clean install of everything, top to bottom. Hardware seems to be fine, no problems anywhere. CoH seems to install without a hitch. And and when I go to log in, one of two things happens. The game either crashes before the login, or get to login to a character and the game crashes within moments, giving me this error:

    ./piggs/stage3g.pigg: Corrupt pig file detected
    Read failed for file: texture_library/WORLD/City_Zones/Atlas_Park_makeover/CityHall/AP_CityHall_Dome_01_NS.texture
    -1

Your data might be corrupt, please run the patcher and try again.

I run the repair utility, and it doesn't find anything wrong. I'm at a loss what to do anymore.

Machine isn't off the shelf. We usually build our own unless it's a laptop or something.

EDIT: Just goes to show that we tend to forget that even brand-spanking-new =/= 100% error free.
My spouse did a scan of my machine using a laptop on the network to take a closer look with a utility she had, and it showed that some of the sectors on the drive were bad. Even though it wa really, really minor, it can affect the stability of the OS and software and cause various problems. Fortunately, hard drives are cheap as dirt these days, which is good, since my disabilty income is limited.

    Echo Hawk, here.

I'll be back in about a week, after I do a bit of repair work on my rig.
  15. It looks as if the primary HD may have been tanking. That's oaky, they're cheap and I have others. I dumped the memory just to be on the safe side, though.
  16. A alternate virus scan (Malwarebytes) has flagged something, so maybe I did pick up something bad. I'm hoping that this is the case, if only to know what I need to do to fix it.

Also, have you tried NCSOft.com yet?
Not yet. I'll try there shortly. Note this machine is practically brand new, and the card isn't remotely being pushed to it's limits (it's not overclocked), I haven't even done much past it's default settings.

I had my spouse check the hardware- she builds and designs these things, and she says everything seems to be in working order.
  18. You have no idea how immensly frustrating this is. This game worked fine on Thursday and now nothing I do can bring it up. I'm literally grinding my teeth with the frustration. Nothing seems to be wrong with anything, but it still won't work. NOTHING HELPS.
  19. Nope. Update didn't help. Short of a complete system wipe, I'm not sure what to do.

We've done scans. The HD is good. Which isn't surprising, as it's just six months old.

I'm doing an OS update, and hope it'll clear up my problem.

Open "Computer," right-click on your C: drive and select "Properties," then go to the Tools tab. Click the "Check Now" button under the Error-checking heading, and when it tells you that it will schedule a run for the next time you restart your computer, do so.

Then go do something else for the next 15-30 minutes; it'll take a little while to finish.
I've done that. The main sticking point seems to be at this point is a pigg file which the repair utility says is fine but the update patch says is corrupt.
  22. I have finally got the game installed, but now the patch won't install because of this:

    stage3d.pigg

I run the patch and it crashes when it hits that point. So I go into the CoH directory, remove that file and run the repair utility, which replaces it. I run the patch againa and... it craps out when it hits that point again, telling me it's corrupt. I run the repair utility and it finds nothing wrong with it.

I haven't. How do I go about it?
  24. I get to stage 4 of the installer and it craps out at 90% every time with this error:

An error prevented the game from being updated.

Game files might be corrupted, or files could have been in use while the update was being applied.

Reinstalling the game will probably fix the problem.

You can also try to reapply the updates by right-clicking on the game's name in the game list.

Now, I'm in Atlas monitoring the instal (and it says I can do this), but is it affecting the install?
