  1. Well, file updated. (including the bump of Scrappers to 13)

At this point, we have 3101 toons listed. What had been previously a tight race between normal heroes and normal villains is beginning topull away... tankers (the least popular "normal" hero) stand at 313 whereas the most popular "normal" villain (brute) stands at 253. I'd say the other thread's point about people "starting" in heroes, and treating villains as a sort of epic or advanced may have some fruit to it.
The numbers of EATs on both sides is about the same: 121 Khelds to 115 SoAs.

Altitis: the mean is still about 40.6 with a deviation of 38.87. Given that in any population, you have to be at least one deviation away before you aren't "normal" (usually two or three, honestly), a "low" number of alts would be a main and an alt. Altitis would start if you had about seventy-six alts. Bad altitis (for our forum population) would begin about 113 alts. "Oh, my... you have alts!" level would be about 148 ish alts. "Dude/Dudette, that's an army there!" level would be about 184.

Mode has inched up to 27, for those keeping score.
  2. Must... not... pun... must... not...
    *sigh*
A Water Tank. That would be an interesting set.

so we have our horsemen, but that raises the question. who ends up being the forumpocalypses 6 headed beast? The DOOOOOOOMMMMMBeast? I am just the messenger. and you can't have my capybaras, my tangelos, or my 10 year supply of fruitopia.

    Oh, aye, tyvm :-)
  5. Thanks folks; file updated.
Something in the back of my mind went ding when the data from you two went in...
... anyone else see an interesting trend? Something's there I can't put my (mental) finger on...
(must have stayed up too late last night on a TF)

Edit: Oh, and, assuming the 150k is still accurate or thereabouts for population:
71 people reporting makes us pretty significant slice of the forum-going population (which should be quite a less than the 150k), but .004% of the entire player base. That's a pretty good slice just of the players, and a darn good slice of the forum goers; our error rate is going down quite nicely. We should be fairly indicative of the forum goers, and sorta indicative of everyone...
  6. File updated

Well, our Lady from Liberty has upped the ante in an interesting way...

2732 total thus far (not counting the "lots," "bunchas," etc).

Mean number of alts: 40.59 with a standard deviation of about 37.2... means we have some really heavy users. Mode's 24.
Also means Sweet_Sarah of Liberty is a smidgen past the fourth deviation away... that's rare air there (0.1% of a given population is that far away from a mean in any analysis. Given ~150k play CoX... there might be a hundred and fifty total ish people in her weight-class as far as alts created/played) in anyone's breakdown for anyone who is worried about taking the crown of "Most Alted." Also means you don't have to worry about being bad in altitis until you have about... 78 alts. But, we work out to having about 40 alts a piece with more people having twenty-four than anything else. That discrepancy is also interesting, fyi, when you work out how significant it is.

    Heroes: 1742, 63.76%
    Villains: 990, 36.24%
    Hero-Villain ratio: 4.6:2.9

HEATs are ~3.8% of characters created, VEATs are ~3.5% (lots of rounding there), with an overall EAT creation of ~7.2%. This lends to some interesting stuff, considering the data from BABs in the other thread.

The most popular VNAT created is still the Brute... the least popular HNAT is still the Tanker. However, there are more tankers (still) than brutes. Interestingly enough, adding the EATs (both villain and hero), only one VNAT exceeds the number (although, one is darn close): Brutes. Brutes: 235, EATs: 198, Corrupter: 194.

Scrapper (by far) is the most popular hero set with 419. Of the HNATs, the ratio of most created versus least created is: 1.5:1 (Scrapper to Tank)

Brute to Stalker (most popular VNAT to least popular VNAT): 2.1:1

    For the heck of it:
    HNAT to HEAT: 15.9:1
    VNAT to VEAT: 9.4:1
    HNAT to EAT: 8.3:1
    VNAT to EAT: 4.5:1
    Interesting, no?

Edit: for the person who wanted HAT vs HEAT/etc
HAT (Heroic AT-including epics) to HEAT: 16.9:1
VAT (Villain AT-including epics) to VEAT: 10.4:1
    HNAT to VEAT: 17.25:1
    HNAT to VNAT: 1.83:1
    HNAT to VAT: 1.66:1

Why, thank you. I'm glad the OP posted the thread... interesting thought process and results here.

...okay, that's kind of freaky that I have an equal spread of origin. The two future characters are going to be Natural and Mutant.

Interesting what we find out about ourselves, isn't it? Me, I was surprised I had all the tech origins... and then realized why I like the Ironman movie.

Hope this does not seem like a stupid suggestion, but did you remember to actually train them up to 50 after you dinged?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Best I remember, the unlocks hit when you ding, not later when you train. :-S
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Wow. So you actually DID pull out random animations here and there, do all the greyscale stuff needed, and just do this piecemeal over the long term. I think I outright suggested it a year ago, but I never imagined you'd actually do that. That's a crazy amount of dedication.

What I really love about this dev team is they go the extra mile just to make as many people as happy as power. Lazier developers wouldn't have bothered with both "light" and "dark" versions, no matter how lame it would be not to be able to throw solid black balls of flame at people. I sound like a total sycophant here, but this is astounding when you have some idea of how much effort all this took.

Taking in script changes and everything else fun...

Edit: sorry about obsessive posting on this... I get data and trends stuck in my head the same way other people get songs stuck in their heads.
  11. Gotcha; darn. Now you mention that exact name, that triggers a dusty memory; thanks all!
  12. Okay, I have a question... in the options for the game, there are a series of "hide from website" options.

...what exact website is it referring to?

    The Devs Hate...

Don't forget the bums, beggars, etc.

Plus, there is an artwork that has a huge icon, male, and female icon on it for a restroom base detail.

Now, what REALLY bothers me about that, though, is it is only six foot tall... and the Humongous door is exactly the same size and dimensions as are the male/female doors...

Hope you have teleport self to get in there for the facilities...

What I'm suddenly curious about is the correlations between ATs... It looks to me like some people tend to roll along fairly clear lines, like preferring range, melee, damage dealing, buffing/debuffing, or team-based ATs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Aye; that's one of the interesting side bits. Like the person who does 'Trollers and Tanks... looking closer at that, I'll bet that person is rolling "ensure team survival" toons. The hidden personal schema each of us is going with could make an interesting study. Most folks try to be balanced... but how they do that and where they are out of balance is interesting; plus contrasting the outliners who identify with a specific AT/roll... interestin'

(also interesting is the different criteria each of us are picking as to what is an "active" or "reportable" toon in this self-report survey)

Edit: Oh, here's a CSV version of the file thus far; some folks who listed two VEATs but didn't list the flavor, I split the difference. Same with Khelds

I have the heavier numbers on other tabs, if folks want something other than the raw stuff to play with/error check.

Edit 2: file updated, thanks for the formula fix (can't believe I missed that absolute address).

Edit 3: Updated through Silver_Streak below.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
    Now cross-reference with this!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fits, actually. Tankers are among the least created non-EAT; but seem to be stable throughout.

VEATs are more popular to create and play... but folks do seem to shift into EATs in general. Khelds are about 6% of hero character creation whereas VEATs are about 10% of villian character creation... but that's not the whole story. Khelds are ~3.8% of all toons created and VEATs are ~3.6 of all toons created. So, the shift "feels" less for heroes simply because there are *so* many heroes created... but in general, their rate of adoption isn't that much different from the VEAT adoption or overall rate of adoption.

Brutes, as opposed to Tankers, seem to be one of the more popular created villain ATs. They are followed not by the Scrapper analog (which is the heroic side's greatest slice), but by Corrs. The played Stalker information is even more telling... something's amiss or simply tied to a highly specific mindset.

The highest ratio of created Heroes to lowest non-EAT (Scrappers vs. Tanker) is about 1.6:1
The highest ration of created Villains to lowest non-EAT (Brutes vs. Stalkers) is about 2.2:1
The played thread has some interesting things to say about this trend to follow up on mindsets on character creation.

    Great, the mindstorm's bigger, now.

Edit: oh, fun, just realized the lowest non-EAT hero is more popular than the highest non-EAT villain for character creation by just a bare smidgen.
  19. Make that 1346 to 792. 4.46:2.81 Oh, and 37.1 (ish)
and... you changed something Spinomania. I don't know what, but something in your data changed how my head feels.

*gah* Times like this I wish I could go into that super-autism calculation mode and pull-out whatever my subconscious finds in numbers. Must be something in the controller vs. other ats.

    *sigh*
Yeah. I did. In fact, the data kept tickling my brain whilst I slept. Inbetween committee meetings this morning, I'm collating and debating the advantages of one-tail or two-tail analysis. I've got a literal storm of connections going that I can't get settled down.

For instance, not counting Susan (yet), we have 1307 heroes listed and 770 villains listed: some of the trends are interesting. There is exactly one person thus far that self-reports only heroes, and exactly one person thus far that self-reports only villains. By and large, though, most folks have both, with a trend to more heroes than villains. Indeed, 4:2... roughly.
Median number of alts is about thirty-seven; some of the users REALLY move that average. Indeed, there seems to be two heavy types of users: single server and multi-server active populations. Without the self-reporting multi-server actives, the average drops to the lower thirties as far as alts go. Not certain about the multi-account holders, though (I am one with two, for instance).
But none of that are the trends that are causing havoc in my brain; when I get time, this might make an interesting data run.

Wait, are these levels or actual COUNTS of each!? As it stands... 196 toons on one server?! That would be about seven accounts...
  22. Tanks: Energy armor.

What I really want, though, is:
Tanks/Brutes: (to go with the Science! booster pack) Illusionary armor.
Concept: small, tiny tank/brute with the name of "Pufferfish Peter." Small guy that explodes big, and makes you think he's invulnerable, because you are hitting/shooting empty space. Generally, he messes with whoever he's pounding on...
