This is a bit of a present from Miss and myself (although she doesn't know I've written it yet). I hope you all enjoy it
A Festive Poem
by Mr Marvellous
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the place
Statesman was thinking it was a disgrace;
There were no decorations and that wasn't right,
There was no Christmas Pudding and no Tree in sight,
And that gave Statesman a terrible fright,
'Cause he'd invited the villains for Christmas Night.
So he's gathering every hero he can,
Because he's come up with a wonderful plan.
The team from Ouroboros will make special treats,
Lets just prey they don't give us festive repeats.
The Vanguard will choose what to watch on the telly.
And we'll all have desert made of Hamidon jelly.
He then he gets all of the scrappers united,
to make sure that all of the decs have been sighted,
And cut up crate paper to make decorations,
And hang up old stockings, and blow up inflations.
The tankers are tanked because silly old Mynx,
Put them in charge of getting the drinks.
Foreshadow and Posi are having a munch,
Whilst stuffing the Turkey and cooking the lunch.
The Defenders are straining to put up the tree,
In time for Recluse to join Statesman for tea.
And the Blasters aren't shirking, they're lighting the lights,
So that the city will sparkle tonight.
And the ice controllers have made sure it snows,
With the help of the others, to the heavens it goes,
And Paragon becomes a wonderful sight,
With snow, decorations and twinkling light.
The villains arrive and the evening goes fine,
One day of the year that we all can combine,
Celebrate together with games that we play,
And all have a wonderful Christmas day.
And when the day's done, the kids tucked in their sheets,
Mr and Miss look out over the streets,
Marvel at the sight of Paragon City,
Miss thinks that it looks awfully pretty.
And so they raise a glass and say with great cheer,
"Have a Merry Old Christmas and Happy New Year!" -

Glad it worked out for you. Great vid. -
Sorry we've not been around but there have been connection problems. I promise that once we get everything sorted then the Marvellous TFs will return. We still have to do the Shards and Eden, so that's pleanty of weekends we will fill
-
I'll be there, just no one tell me what happens in Doctor Who
-
Well I logged on this morning and Hami is still there so, if there is going to be more raids this weekend, when will they be?

But somebody has to have come up with the original
[/ QUOTE ]
The stories that keep getting told are thousands of years old. That doesn't negate the use of imagination. What I was trying to say is that if you shouldn't just give up because it's going the same way as another story.
[ QUOTE ]
Fiction can and has won the Creative Genius award in the past. Personally, I'd like to see more fiction winners, but very little seems to get nominated these days.
[/ QUOTE ]
I went through the past awards the other day in fact and there seams to be a fairly good mix of items. More pictures later on of course but as has been mentioned, there has been a decline.
As I said, for me it's more the lack of (constructive) response from others that stops me posting. Nothing to do with Creative Genius.
Actually I was more upset (upset is the wrong word but it's late and I am full of cold so it will have to do) that marvellousweb didn't get a mention. But I suppose that's because I spent more time doing that than I ever would have writing a short story.
[ QUOTE ]
If I can find the time to stop playing the game sometime, I might get back to work on the story.
[/ QUOTE ]
And time of course is another concern. I spend about a third of my working life writing at the moment and I work for around 15 hours a day (give or take a bit of course). When I do have time on my hands, making time for personal writing is a very long way down the list of things I do to relax. I suppose that is why I want to get constructive criticism out of it. -
Ooooh, I have no idea what that means... but it sounds interesting.
-
I believe the BBC writers room has some sort of layout thing for Word. Not sure what it is though but apparently the scripts are formatted correctly.
-
I'd like to say VERY well done to everyone. Great raid and TsumijuZero did a smashing job at targeting. Worth the wait

YeyHow much is 20000 words in screen time or pages do you think?
Wytch
Mostly Defiant
[/ QUOTE ]
I would guess that it's somewhere around the hour and a half to two hour mark. It depends on how much description etc there is though.
Unfortunately even though the 1 minuet per page thing works most of the time I often find with comedy that laughs and the actor's own business blow any timing out of the window. I've written a 5 minute sketch that takes up one page before, just because of one stage direction.
When you get in to it though you'll start to pick this up quite quickly. I always find that the best thing to do is imagine the action and time how long it takes for you to think through what you want to happen. But of course, that's not so important with this.
I might do this. Should make 20,000 in a few weeks. I assume the same ideas of plotting and research as the other one apply? -
[ QUOTE ]
Yay stories!
i do try from time to time, but a) nothing gets finished
b) i relize half way through i been regurgitating some ones else's story. so have to start again.

Sorry for the double post but really wanted to comment on this.
I think it is something you have to just accept in writing. You will never write an original story. Somebody somewhere will have come up with it before.
The trick is (and this is something Hop, that you are already doing in part) to realise when that's happening and then to take what you know of where the original story is going and subvert it, take it away completely from the direction that the story you are copying would have gone.
That is also a wonderful cure for writers block as well incidentally. -
I actually have a nice origin story for one of my characters which I was originally going to post. Part of the problem I have is getting the time to sit down and type it out since it's all in notebooks mingled in with odd jokes and bits of stand-up. The other part of the problem I think is that I always look for creative feedback with any writing I don't feel that I would get that here.
That's no indication on the people here of course. The last time I posted a story I got a few responses but it hardly made a splash on here where as posts with pictures in would always get a lot of praise and always seam to be the first ones up for the creative genius awards. I suppose that's because pictures are far more accessible than the written word will ever be.
Eventually I just thought there was no point. I had told the story, written the story once for me and I am happy with that. Ultimately anything like this will have little interest to others since it wouldn't involve characters you know. In this case IIRC I had set it in Chicago. Well, the character doesn't even reach paragon until the end of the story when he starts his new life so it is a completely different world to the COH universe as well. -
It would have to be in the evening on Saturday and I'm afraid the best we could do is send a tell when Sister Psyche is done. We have been planning this for 2 weeks now (after the TF bug problem last week) so we can't let people down no matter how much we want to do the SS TF.
Of course you can always chat to us on our global handles Mr Marvellous and Miss Marvellous and we can let you know how far we are through it. -
Well we have now have a full team and we are underway. Sorry for anyone who missed it and I hope you will be able to join us on another one.
-
Wow, what a great response.
I am glad that you all enjoyed the last one enough to sign up again. I have to say, I am looking forward to this one immensely. This was the first TF I ever did on COH and there are some great missions in it -
Very sorry if anyone missed us but we now have a full team and have started.
Thanks to everyone for the interest, we will be doing this again with the other TFs so look out for the threads over the coming weeks and as soon as I can get it organised there will be an announcements secion on our site:

I have Microfilament Exposure I would like to swap for... well tell me what you got and Miss and I will decide if we need it
It's +travel and -end -
[ QUOTE ]
I also have a 15 MA/Regen scrap and a 17 PB. Would prefer the troller or scrap, PB is just so boring.
[/ QUOTE ]
As I said above, whichever you prefer playing, or whichever you want the badge with -
Thanks for all of the interest so far.
For those wondering about who to bring on, well ultimately the choice is yours.
Miss is an Ice/TA troller and I am a Claws/Regen scrapper. Other than that I would suggest whoever you have the most fun playing.
Tactics we will figure out when we have the team on Saturday but a little bit more damage would be nice at the moment as well.
That's just something to bear in mind of course, don't let me stop anyone signing up if they want to play another troller -

Do i sound evil? Oh my god i do don't i!?!
[/ QUOTE ]
Not at all, that's perfect, sort of confirms what I was thinking myself actually.
I had an incredible problem with the eyes and I think that's why I ended up drawing the face out of proportian.
[ QUOTE ]
Hmm you could do some template lines first, like a sphere for the head and then lines to show where the eyes and other facial featurity will be
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually I did but I don't feel I have quite got the hang of it yet
Thanks both for the feedbackjust what I'm looking for.
-
Speaking as someone who only posts when he can, I love constructive feedback on all of my work, be it written, drawn, photoshop, music or websites. I've not had that much though on some threads and on other threads it's taken a while to get going.
I know Miss was unhappy that her first story didn't get any comments. It is nice just to be recognised.
As far as my drawing work goes, the first one that I did was commented on by Swissy and the comments were incredably helpful, I really appreciated them.
That is what I want from a creative forum though. I expect others needs to be different. -
Thanks for the comments guys.
Does anyone have tips on how I could improve for the next one? -
[ QUOTE ]
Doesn't see to work for me.. Just a little white box with an X...
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I had a problem with it myself a few minutes ago.
Try this one:
BIG FLUFFY CLICKY TYPE THING! -
I finally managed to get my sketch book out again last weekend. It took me a whole week to draw this (more through grabbing the odd 5 minutes here and there to do it than anything else) and I'm still not pleased with it but I am much happier than I have been with other stuff.

All comments and tips appreciated.
