Feedbacks
It's a valid view.
I don't completely agree though. This thread proves that forumites are willing to get better and help one another.
You have to consider that posters also have different lives as in work, school (exams), family and what not. Therefore some might post more during a certain period and post less during another. Which results in less overall views and posts in certain threads.
....
Without wanting to belittle this artistic community in any way, shape or form, this is not Conceptart.org.
I remember trying to be as forward and comprehensive as possible (considering english isn't my mother tongue and I seem to take things too litteraly) in a Thread. Giving as much feedback as I could. Only to realise that I might have come on too strong.
What I'm getting at is that, even though I am always happy and interested in receiving constructive criticism, I never expect to get too much of that here. Which can be debated to be a good thing. If I am looking for technical posts I'll head to Megatokyo*** (art forum) or Conceptart. I guess the general mood here is light and just, well, appreciative of what people see.
Which brings 2 questions to my mind:
Do posters really want to take things seriously by writing long and profound comments on one's work and make this forum a serious place? Or do they prefer to give short and sweet sugar-coated answers to keep this community fun and relaxed?
Your choice really.
Maybe I'm reading too much into this. So I'll leave it at that.
There are though a few posters who always try to give constructive feedback like Blackdove or posters who try and share their knowledge to help others like Catz, to name but a few... So kudos to them.
*** The first ever forum I joined was Megatokyo. (The art section has nothing to do with the comic, by the way.) But they always push people to post work that was done in more than just 20 mins or so. They also frown very much upon feedback that just simply states "You have mad skills! This is awesome!!1" The result of this can be very constructive and beneficial to the OP. But also very ruthless...

Charmed, Im sure.
Anyway to ze point! Im gonna agree with Swissy. If you take a look around the boards (especially the Architype sections and such) players are always willing to help each other. And if you take a look in Zortels thread of for "The Artistically Challenged" then you'll see some good comments in there from the more "experienced" artists on the game. Yeah i tend to just go "Woot, Good drawing" (No i CAN be bothered) but its being honest.
But as a promise i shall say that from now on i'll try my best to give creative comments, even to those whom' are experienced *points to sols sketches thread where i had to direct Swissy the Great and Amazing*

Speaking as someone who only posts when he can, I love constructive feedback on all of my work, be it written, drawn, photoshop, music or websites. I've not had that much though on some threads and on other threads it's taken a while to get going.
I know Miss was unhappy that her first story didn't get any comments. It is nice just to be recognised.
As far as my drawing work goes, the first one that I did was commented on by Swissy and the comments were incredably helpful, I really appreciated them.
That is what I want from a creative forum though. I expect others needs to be different.
On my part, I don't check daily the Creative section so I miss many pictures.
Furthermore, I am not a drawer at all. So it would be difficult to express "constructive criticism".
On the other hand, it can be interesting for you drawers to have an opinion from someone who doesn't have a clue how to draw ?
And it's all about balancing feedback. Sending negative feedback can help... or sap the will of a drawer ?
I also see (or consider) several levels in artistic expression.
For example, being more at ease with written stories, I could say, reading a short story, that it can be either bad or good. It depends a lot of the intent.
It's what I call "game information stories" and "stories".
Some short texts are good information stories and bad stories. Because they are too short, lack descriptions, structure but provide enough details and interest for someone who knows what the writer is talking about.
Same for drawings.
Some can,for me, be just rough sketches (those are fairly obvious actually), studies (on volume, shades, colors) or intended to be full work.
So, sometimes, I see a drawing, think "hu... there are odds things there" but if it's only a study, it might be ok. If it's a full work, it isn't.
Then, maybe, you all artists could also state your intent in your posted, linked, drawings/photoshop work/etc ?
I remember the days when lots of forum users would give feedback on posted works but nowadays creative work hardly gets a response.
Maybe its just me but perhaps people are starting to compete and forgetting to encourage their fellows? The threads with the most views and responses are the popular folks with many friends about to pat them, and thats not a bad thing. But maybe the sense of community is breaking a little? What do you think?
