There's something that renders this entire conversation completely irelevant. I know what it is, but I'm not about to give it away in the hopes of jinxing PvP for myself. I have no HO's myself, but i'm not worried about those who do. Anyone care to take a guess why?
[/ QUOTE ]
I have no Idea why, but your words intrigue me, please... do tell. -

assuming he works 40 hours a week, that guy who works all day to pay for the game must only be making 37.5 cents an hour. :P
Sorry i'm not statesman, and really i'm just picking on you for a clumsy sentance. just joshin'
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually it's 32 cents an hour... that's including 40 bucks for internet. I'll even show my math. Jerk even gets $1.32 spending money.
Assuming there are 22 work days in a month (23 this month)
($15+$40)/(22*8)
$55/176
$0.3125
Dayamn... I have too much time on my hands today. -
There's a problem with the game. This is something most people will agree on. The problem is that there is a way for people with a larger amount of time, time to play at the RIGHT time of day, a big SG, and/or a better computer (to make the 'slideshow' bearable) can get a special type of enhancement. There are really only two ways to fix this, and everyone seems to be concentrating on the first.
1. Make the special enhancement less special in some way. (make it so only one can be used per power... make it so that they can't be used in PvP/can't be used in specific PvP matches... make them less effective... etc.)
2. Give people more ways of getting them (make them available via a TF... make them buyable *cough*bad idea*cough*... make a trial or mission drop them... etc.)
Basically the first one makes them work different, and the second one makes them more available to people who only have time to play at night or on their days off (I used to work during the weekend and go to school at night, I could only play at night on saturday and sunday and in the morning on Wednesday and Thursday, do you have any idea how much that sucks trying to get into an SG, not to mention a TF or raid?). These people are no less devoted to the game, they simply have 'time sinks' IRL. There have been a few ideas that would work but won't be implimented for various reasons, but I sincerely hope that before I get to lvl 50 there is some kind of fix for this.
I personally think that making the HO's buyable is a bad idea... this is because *WAY* too many people that have them now will complain until they are blue in the face. BUT... If there were something similar to an HO, perhaps an enhancer that worked on two aspects but only enhanced them by SO standards, or something that worked better than an SO on one aspect... that would be reasonable.
Ok... I'll shut up now. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, the word "often" was used. I never said that it wasn't. I made my point with that in mind...
For example, let's just say that there are 100 "most skilled players". And say that in out of those 100, fifty have done the raid...
...(numbers, legitimate points)...
However, saying that
[ QUOTE ]
"the prowess to lead or organize a raid are often the most skilled players in the game."
[/ QUOTE ]
takes away from ALL the other players who are just as good, if not, better.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think that was the point that he was making, the point that he was making is this; (IMO, don't fault them if I'm wrong)
Fighting against the people who have the organizational skills and in-game experience (not to mention time and bad-[censored] computers) to organize and successfully execute a Hamidon raid would be a difficult task even if they did not have HO's.
Notice that I said nothing about other players being difficult to beat. You seem to have taken that post and twisted it around to be an insult against anyone it was not complimenting... THAT was the point of my previous post.
I know a lot of people who have been playing this game for quite some time and have yet to get a lvl 50 character, yet are more skilled than many lvl 50's that I've seen. They even know their characters play style better at lvl 35 than many lvl 50's know their characters.
BUT
That has nothing to do with the fact that some of the people who have been involved in the Hamidon raids are insanely good at this game and have the knowledge of thier specific build that will allow them to trash just about any takers that approach them in the arena... even if they couldn't use thier HO's. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
...EXACTLY! You are correct. Those who spent the time to figure out how to beat Hamidon legitimately, or who have the prowess to lead or organize a raid are often the most skilled players in the game. Combine that with the equipment advantage, and you've got a very tough opponent, even if you DO have Hamihancers.
[/ QUOTE ]
I may be a little bit confused, but, it may seem, perhaps, that, based on that assumption, we're judging skill in the ENTIRE GAME OF "CITY OF HEROES" purely on the basis of whether or not you've beaten Hamidon?
I'm sure that there are those who have raided Hamidon who will say that they know people who haven't raided Hamidon that are just as skilled, maybe even beter than they are.
I don't like to think that defeating Hamidon is the *only* measuring stick of skill in the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think you missed one specific word that he used, I'll just make it a little more obvious for you -
[ QUOTE ]
So, what I can glean from the forums is that the high end PvP is going to be mostly Power Leveling Hamidon Farmers... I'll pass thx.
[/ QUOTE ]
Two things about this...
One, if they're PL'ed and have not played their character outside the arena... they will get trashed by anyone who has any kind of clue how to play their toon. Two, what you are hearing comes from a very vocal minority. You look in one thread about PL'ing and expect to get an unbiased, complete look at the makeup of the lvl 50 crowd? At least look around a little more before you come to this conclusion. -
[ QUOTE ]
Now can we please stop spamming HO whiney threads and continue posting about why "no one can beat your AT in PvP"
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL, I hope you are kidding... at least the HO arguements have numbers to back them up, the AT ones are all BS and bad math (READ: fake numbers) -
[ QUOTE ]
I feel the CoH developers have thought of the Hammy vs. non-Hammy enhancement issue. I would not be surprised to see an option in the arena to the effect of All enhancement are set to SO, DO, training, etc.. Level Just like the No Travel Powers option.
[/ QUOTE ]
They wouldn't let this arguement rage like this if they had a solution that was already functional (aside from what states posted at the beginning of this thread). My guess is that they are still working on it. -
[ QUOTE ]
Hami-Os are 50% boosts, not 33% like SOs.
[/ QUOTE ]
I understand that, that wasn't in question as states posted that at the beginning of the thread. I understand that 6 Hamis = 300% acc and 300% dam, but isn't the total cap for any enhancement on a power 200-250%? Including buffs and such that is. -
[ QUOTE ]
I think it is worth pointing out here that I hardly need to have a simulation run to know that the army with 10k troops has a rather large advantage over the army with 5k.
However I do agree that numbers are never the full story and in fact often lie. So while the basics of a double league should are being worked up go ahead and test HOs and NO HO in duels.
I fully believe that certain types of solid teams No HOers could take down a HO team. I am also fairly sure that a fully HOed MA/Regen scrapper will decimate any other non-HO scrapper in a one on one duel.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have no delusions about HO's dominating the post 45 game, but in the pre 45 game, it is all but impossible that they will be so dramatically changed or capped that they won't make much of a difference at all.
One other thing... I keep seeing the number 300% when refering to the amount of damage and accuracy on 6 slotted HO attacks. Unless I'm mistaken, the cap kicks in somewhere closer to 200% on PvE... but then again I've been known to be wrong on occasion. If someone knows where there is a listed cap that has been tested or verified, please post a link. -
I'm just going to quote myself... if you've read this, ignore it.
[ QUOTE ]
This whole issue reeks of pie (hopefully SOMEBODY knows what I'm talking about). The arena is something people have been looking foreward to since the game was introduced. In the original forums there were people asking for an x-men style ready room to battle it out in (don't sue me, Marvel), this was before the game even went to the live servers... everyone was still on Prime and they were asking for this. And yet... even with something that people have been asking for for over a year (yes, since before I was even in beta)... they find something to complain about. To this I say 'shut up, I like my pie the way it is... it might not have enough cinnamon in it, but it'll do.'

You can't see the obvious advantages of having heavily slotted damage plus heavily slotted accuracy and heavily slotted END reducers? In *ONE* power?
[/ QUOTE ]
I can see what the advantage looks like on paper. But until it's live in it's final format, it's theory at best. Which means I expect the dev's to look at it when it's on test and make adjustments as needed prior to it going out to live.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not following you here. We can easily extrapolate exactly what effect this is going to have. We know that w/ 6 acc/dam HOs any offensive power can hit, or nearly hit, the damage cap, except for scrappers. We know that the accuracy bonus will be +300%. Do we really need to playtest that out to see it's effect?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll clarify it for you... what he is saying is that until we can actually GET OUR HANDS ON PVP, we cannot tell how it will work and if the numbers are the same for PvP as they are for PvE. More specifically, the exemplar feature. How EXACTLY are HO's going to be effected by being lowered to SO's... are the numbers going to add up to one SO, or are there going to be multiple aspects of the powers that are enhanced as though by an SO? Who knows? Statesman -

There are a couple accelerated learning techniques however the most successful involve either being highly intoxicated or hit in the face with shovel...
[/ QUOTE ]
Or you could combine the two... actually... those two usually go together, but generally it's the person with the shovel who is highly intoxicated. Ahh... highschool... -

I'm new to online stuff, so I can't read half of what Zero says, but I certainly get the attitude!
[/ QUOTE ]
LMAO! Been there... not too long ago either. -
You're right saturn... I get them mixed up (you'd think I'd know better by now, I guess I need to play my controller more). With the group holds it's a good idea to have at least 2 slots worth of acc, since they can be inaccurate... like I said though, 'Depending on build'.
-
[ QUOTE ]
* As a blaster/defender/controller do NOT alpha strike (be the first one to fire) at any new group, since this will aggro the entire group and they will remember for the entire battle. Let the Tank or Scrapper get their attention BEFORE you strike.
[/ QUOTE ]
/Disagree
Depending on build, a controller can start a fight with a group and never get hit... sometimes even keep your whole group from getting hit. By using an AoE Immobilize, one can potentially freeze up a group for an entire fight, far more likely if there are two immobilize AoE's in the group. Sometimes it's the best idea for a controller to hit em first... the rest of the time it might not be the BEST idea, but it usually works decently with the right controller and the right person behind the controls of said controller. -
I don't know how well it'd work for a Macro. Is there a /macro_load_file?
-
Oh, to see why it wasn't working, I removed the @echo off line.
Edit: Ok, I fixed the phrases.txt, it should work now.
Got it to work... this is how the batch file is written
[ QUOTE ]
@ECHO OFF
:TOP
FOR /F "DELIMS=~~~" %%i IN (phrases.txt) DO (echo %%i>target.txt)&&SLEEP 1&&ECHO %%i
GOTO TOP
[/ QUOTE ]
I used ~~~ for the delimiters so that there's pretty much no way that anyone would accidentally use them in a saying.
The target.txt starts empty, but it has to be there.
The phrases.txt is where all the magic is done. The cool thing about this setup is that you can have different emotes attached to each saying... the drawback is that you have to have a longer file... Example:
[ QUOTE ]
F10 "em dance$$Local Hi!$$bind_load_file C:/cohbind/target.txt"
F10 "em wave$$Local My name is $name, who are you today?$$bind_load_file C:/cohbind/target.txt"
F10 "em shrug$$Local How are you today?$$bind_load_file C:/cohbind/target.txt"
F10 "Local S'up?$$bind_load_file C:/cohbind/target.txt"
F10 "em frustrated$$Local
GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!$$bind _load_file C:/cohbind/target.txt"
[/ QUOTE ]
You can replace 'Local' with 'beginchat' and it will be said in the current channel, you can use any button in the place of F10... I'm just used to F10.
Make SURE that the program is running and you type "/bind_load_file C:/location/target.txt" (not phrases.txt, that would just mess it all up) in the game before trying this. It's best to keep the binds in their own folder in the root directory (C:/cohbinds is where I keep mine) -
Has anyone other than the OP gotten this to work? I can't seem to... it keeps saying that it can't find the text file that's sitting right next to it on the drive. I've got a friend of mine who is much more familiar with batch files looking at it and trying to figure out what's wrong... on that note, which version of windows are you using (there are some commands that are different, or non-existant, in different versions of windows, mainly between 2000 and xp)
-
Troll is a person that goes onto the forums (generally) and picks fights just to sidetrack the thread and get their jollys off.
OP is the Original Poster, reffering to the person who wrote the first post in a thread.
Bampf or Bamf: Teleport. i.e. I just bampf'ed the minion over to us and the whole group agroed. -
I disagree with Crit... it's useful, yes... for some builds... for almost any controller, it's pretty much too useful to skip... for the majority of blasters and scrappers, it can be a hinderance.
I have it on my lvl 30 ice/ice blaster and I almost want to use my free respec (which I've been saving) just to get rid of the stupid power... the only time that I ever use it is when I am about to get into a really ugly fight... and I only use it for the +def buff. I guess I just use up my end too fast without it for it to be useful. -
Yeah, next to no resource overhead. It's just one extremely small line of code running over and over and over and over until you shut it off.
-
That's pretty cool... I'm working with batch files in school right now, and that's one of the more interesting, if somewhat pointless, uses that I've seen... then again... most things that can be done with batch files are pretty interesting... and usually pointless.
Anyways... quick question. What would the file look like if it were just the random name rotator put on one key? Would that be

or am I screwing something up? (I have a tendancy to do that, which is why I'm asking) -
Great guide, I printed it out for further study. I have a lvl 7 ill/kin controller and I was looking for help with it. It may not be the fastest way to kill, but it sure seems like the most fun.
-
Nice, now I don't have to worry about my fly bind being worthless (can't figure out for the life of me how to execute one command on press and one on letting go). Instead I just have to wait till like february or so.
