Actually, many of the objects in the 'Desk' category have flat bottoms that do indeed have textures on them. They're commonly used for making floors.

Quote:No need to be snarky about people who are just conversing with you to tell you that they don't agree with your perception of things.Well, I'm pleasantly surprised by the amount of replies, but I'm not so pleasantly surprised by the amount of people telling me that they know people with big boobs.
Ok, then. Those who know endowed females. Tally up everyone you know withOUT boobies the size of trucks, then compare it to the person you know.
Satisfied? Saying you know an outlier doesn't make it less of an outlier. Ready for an actual update?
Good.
Ok, sorry, again, but bringing my personal bias into this post was a choice I made myself. And yes, I have small boobs. But that has nothing to do with why I feel uncomfortable with the amount of cleavage that can be displayed. I know, I know, I KNOW this game is based off of comic books, but there are plenty of people in comic books that aren't so endowed. I just wanted more... manly not-males. A tomboy, or even just a person with a female head but a male body. I wanted an unstoppable badass, not a person unreasonably thin. And I'm all right with the changes not happening, as long as it was possible to create such effects without cookie cutter ways. And a recent poster, I forget your name, yes, that is a great female body. But, the pose is not available in the creator, and the shoulders seem too small. Not that I'm critiquing your costume, I think it's awesome, but I just... want more, I guess.
And Thauminator, I hope you go die in a fire. Just saying. You're a biased immature jerk, with nothing better to do then jeer at those expressing their feelings. You've alienated everyone on the forums by trying to expose my fault I ALREADY EXPOSED, then reacted with an attempted "Im taking my all and going home" move.
Thanks for the support, guys! And a happy holidays!!!
I think most are always in favour of more options. I'd like the ability to create a She-Hulk or Wonder Woman (when she's drawn as a warrior, not a super model) like character as well, as far as physicality is concerned (which is to say muscular, without concern for breast size). And that was brought up in one of the Art threads run by a Dev, and they eventually responded that they thought it was something that might be worked on at some point. So that's something, at least.
I don't think you'll find a concession from the Devs to putting female heads on male bodies, or such though. They won't even let male models wear skirts.
And there's no need to feed - or attack - the Troll. That's why I ceased responding to him as well. You might consider editing your post since wishing death on someone isn't generally that well accepted around here, I don't think. -
Quote:One retort to your poorly phrased response on the OP and you react by saying you've been called the anti-christ?Thank you, Mr. Tyger42 for helping me introduce some logic into the system.
When I point out that the OP's problem might be their overly-sensitive nature instead of the game, I'm suddenly the antichrist.
[shakes head and walks away]
Guess they're not the only 'overly sensitive' one, aye? -
Looks like the Praetorian Hamidon as shown in some of the poster art in Praetoria, to my eyes.

As many others have said, there are actually a lot of women out there who are just naturally well-endowed and I doubt they like too much being told they don't exist, or don't have an "actual size". In fact, I don't mind venturing the idea that there are more women who are naturally large chested (or even very large chested) then there are men who naturally have crazy big superhero muscles.
However, diversity is always a plus - more options in the lower end of things is a good idea. I'd put it lower priority though than the shoulderpieces you mention, and a new skin that makes it so that female characters can actually have some muscle tone, but its still a good idea.
I believe the chest icons bit is an issue with the icons not conforming well to contours. I know on my main character (a male) if I rotate the camera I can see that his chest icon does stick up off of his (relatively un-curved) chest in parts.
And more hairstyles for everyone would be good. Though I believe females already get a greater diversity in faces, and hair, then males do. -
Quote:I used to have the same problem!LOL! Yes I do, but I doubt it would be up to the challenge.
(Sorry, I'm old fashioned, I prefer a phone to be a phone, not with a lot of bells-and-whistles extras. Unfortunately, you can't seem to get a cell phone without a camera nowadays.)
For a less invasive fix, try opening up NotePad and making the window size reeeeally small. Then move it to the corner of your monitor, overtop of City of Heroes. Take a screenshot with NotePad as the active window instead of CoH. -
Hey there, welcome to the game.
Most servers have what we call global channels that you can join to help you find teams and task forces at all times. I don't play on Triumph so I can't say for sure what those would be for that server, but likely someone here will post the info for you, or you can check the Server forums for Triumph.
DOs, SOs, and IOs are the names of the enhancements that you slot in your powers. They stand for 'Dual Origin', 'Single Origin', and 'Invention Origin' - the latter have to be crafted from recipes. They're basically how you make your powers stronger, more effective, and cost less endurance.
Another big help for all new players is the Paragon Wiki page, which can answer pretty much any question you have.

Quote:Because that's totally what happened with the shinies in Ultra Mode. They didn't change any pieces that people were attached to, and blithely rubber-stamp it through QA. They made the responsible decision of keeping both options for things like the Metallic skin, the Vanguard and Valkyrie costume models.I think that I'd rather have more textures and trust that if an object becomes functionally different through the addition of textures, David is aware enough of how attached people are to their characters' looks to not just blithely rubber-stamp it through to QA regardless.
. . . .
Ya follow me? -
Even keeping in mind that menu work will not likely be done, I have to vote for Option Two. I just can't argue to take away the flexibility of the costume creator, one of the game's greatest strengths. And I don't really understand why anyone else would, either. The argument of "I have to look at it" sounds to me like just a bully trying to dictate how other people should play. By all means, update . . . . but let us who use the old options continue to use them, please.
-
Option Two. Here is why.
I use a lot of the 'painted on' textures since they're my only options for tights, in the classic superhero sense. I have a feeling that a lot of these options would no longer go together, or match in style, once they're updated.
That and I had some costumes ruined by the updates to all of the metallic textures that came with Ultra Mode. We were told at the time that the old textures could be put back in as options, and I sure appreciate that you're going to do that, and know it takes time. But we haven't seen it, and that's all I can base my choice on. So I'd just rather that no more options got taken away from me. -
So a few people have brought up 'games trying to be like Hollywood'. It could be I'm misunderstanding exactly what you mean, but that seems skewed to me.
Here's my take.
The problems suffered in a lot of the bad Hollywood-style blockbusters out there are shared in video games, yes. This doesn't mean that game developers are trying to imitate Hollywood. This means that game developers (in general, with the usual exceptions allowed by such generalizations) and Hollywood writers and directors both fail at understanding the mechanics of stories, how to apply them, and why they're important. Its not one trying to be like the other - its a mutual failure. I dare say some time analyzing myth (modern and ancient), taking some classes on writing, and even picking up some Joseph Campbell books would do both a world of good.
Games as a serious, deep, story-telling vehicle are a relatively new medium. We just aren't quite there yet. But we're getting closer. A few companies are taking steps to change how we do things, how we tell stories, what gamers expect from them, and so forth. Mass Effect 2 is a good example of this - a huge stride forward, and probably one of my favourite games. Some seriously good work. But also check out Heavy Rain, a murder mystery played from four different perspectives. Many of the scenes in Rain are played out as scenes from a drama, or suspense film. And for me, it works - I got into the story, and the vast amount of mundane actions my characters performed gave them a gravity lacking in other games. At least, once I figured out how to play it I did. And that's part of the equation, too - adjusting the player's expectations.
There is - and probably always will be - room for mindless shooters in there, too. As well there should be. To draw it back to the Hollywood analogy, as much as I like watching classic, thought-provoking movies . . . sometimes I just wanna throw in Terminator, too. -
Welcome back!
1) Shields can only be used with certain other powersets. It wont' work with claws, for example. Trying it with broadsword, axe, mace, martial arts, etc., should work. Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning require you to have pre-purchased Going Rogue for early access to them.
2) There are lots of people around on Freedom adn Virture especially. The problem is that there is a much greater number of high-level zones than there used to be. I remember when everyone was in PI too, but now there is the Rikti War Zone, Cimerora, the AE Buildings, and so on. Maybe try one of the OOC channels that focuses on finding teams?
3) Nope. Number are down a little bit due to various things, but the boxed expansion - Going Rogue - will be out shortly, and should help perk things up. Even still, I don't have any problem finding a team. -
I would suppose that depends whether you're trying to get purples, or just a lot of influence. If you're trying for purples, it varies with the drop rates. A particularly unlucky run might see you with no purples at all from doing it, and thus an overall loss in profitability. But a lucky run might see you gain multiple purples. Basically, I dont' think either one is going to uniformly be more profitable every time you do it.

Quote:If I'm understanding the question correctly, then what you might want to do is use the 'Cubicle' item. Once placed, items that normally only stick to a wall will stick to it, and it can also be floated via the accent lamp to get the right height. While we are on the topic of base tricks, is there a way to have wall elements float out horizontally from a wall, the way you can use the safe/accent lamp/floor section to stack/float things vertically?
As an example, I'd like to use two tech wall fans to make a big wheel, basically stacking the two fans back to back, or intersecting somewhat. Conceptionally, if I could sideways-stack one fan from a wall, and sideways stack the second fan from the opposite wall, I could do this.
Any ideas? My goal is to have a room in the SG with something that looks vaguely car-like, or vaguely motorcycle-like, and I need wheels for that.
Thanks in advance -
1) I can say that my experience on the Virtue server has been that at least fifty-percent of my time is spent socializing, and roleplaying, for the purpose of doing just that. The other fifty-percent involves socializing in conjunction with combat.
2) For what my wild guesses are worth I'd give it about a 70/30 split between genders, favouring males.
3) These numbers aren't published anymore, but the number you cite sounds right to me. -
Quote:Probably not, but the Midnight Squad with their devotion to wiping out the Rikti and keeping the world safe from arcane forces? If they had a few hundred Incarnates on their side that'd sure make things easier for them.Do you really think "Mender Nemesis" would let us go back to that place and time?
Though I don't actually think it'll be part of things, I don't think there are any serious reasons it can't be either, as far as that goes. Lots of ways it could be brought into things with some creative story-telling. -
Quote:Though there may well be a different Well of the Furies in Praetorian Earth, right? Or is there some bit of lore there that I'm not filled in on?As I recall, he was not even an average d00d either. He was slowly dying from lung damage caused by exposure to poison gas in World War I when he drank from the Well.
I also seem to recall that the Well was either drained completely or destroyed at that time, so it'd be kind of hard for a player to drink from it today. Note: it's been a couple years since I read the novel, so I may be mistaken about that... -
Quote:Not really the point. My point is that its still very erroneous to say that BAB saying "If it were up to me we wouldn't have an underwater zone, but its not up to me" is equivalent to "We'll never have an underwater zone, ever." You're right, they might listen to him. But if War Witch, and Posi, and whoever else is pulling strings up at the top really wanted it, then yeah, we'd get it. Eventually. Folks seem to be misunderstanding - that's the entirety of my point. He didn't say 'we'll never get that, ever' and shouldn't be quoted as saying such.I think it's likely they would listen to him if he said "I can do it...if you give me, say, five more years to do it in. And thats working solely on that."
Being Lead Animator means you (probably) have quite a bit of power to swing when it comes to your department.
*not an actual BaBs quote. But thats what I'd say, given the facts and quotes we have.
And I'll throw in my two cents and say I'd rather see an underwater zone like others have mentioned, more like Otoh Gunga from Episode 1, or Rapture from BioShock than one where we actually swim around everywhere in open water. -
-
Quote:And actually, what BaB said was that there would be no underwater zones if it were up to him.It was mentioned at least twice at Hero Con by the devs - and captured on video too
Plus, an underwater zone doesn't mean it'd involve us being in the water, which was the thing BAB was not so keen on
He also specifically clarified that it isn't up to him. -
Quote:To the first, I more meant that the dissatisfaction lead to jumping the gun in posting about things in the heat of the moment, or in going too far. And I agree that's what happened, I just don't think that going around telling people they've a preposterous sense of entitlement is any better than the mistake made in the first place, or a certain Developers not-very-funny, rude response to his customers. If I got service that bad in a store you can bet I'd never shop there again. Luckily, BABs, Castle, and a good number of others are indeed very communicative. I won't let one guy I don't like sour me on things in general, but it doesn't mean I - or others, in this case - have to refrain some airing our dissatisfaction. How does dissatisfaction with marketing translate into jumping the gun on the notion of whether these were player costume pieces?
Also, forum communications aren't marketing. Marketing is the stuff that shows up on GamePro or in magazines. Stuff on the forums is the devs giving completely non-required communications to their players. Does it behoove the devs to give their existing players tidbits to hold their interest? I sure think it does. But remember, only a minority of the player base actually frequents the forums. "General dissatisfaction" with something they do on the forums that they could completely blow off is another example of a sense of entitlement. The devs in this game communicate with their forum community more than just about any other MMO in history. We're spoiled that they communicate on anything like the level that they do. We can always hope they do more and do what they do however we think would be better, but to be angry with them over it is too much.
It doesn't help that I consider the implication that the broad forum user is experiencing "general dissatisfaction with marketing" an unprovable claim.
Only some people in this thread expressed simple disappointment. Some went so far as to say how uncool they thought Jay was or how unimpressed they were with WW as a result. While those feelings may be true, I think they point to a significantly overblown sense of entitlement about what the devs owe us here on these forums ... and maybe in-game.
I love this game too, and I get very passionate about some topics, usually things related to game balance changes. There are things the devs have done that I disagree with intensely, so don't read into this that I have my lips attached to any posteriors. When those things happen I express my unhappiness, sometimes in no uncertain terms, but I don't go after the devs on a personal level. Some people in this thread did.
I'm also not disagreeing that the level of communication is good in a more general sense. I've played a lot of other MMOs, and the public relations are usually garbage, or worse. But absolutely every screenshot, every revealed feature, every detail they give us of new issues, and of Going Rogue, positively goes through marketing first. It is marketing that tells them what they can say, and when, and what can be revealed - even on the forums. That the Devs get to actually pull the trigger on it isn't so relevant.
As to going after others on a personal level, I don't think telling someone you're disappointed in their performance is doing that. I think some of what Jay said was uncalled for (I get that he thinks he's funny, I just heartily disagree) and I think your initial statement implied in too broad a stroke that everyone who complained had a preposterous sense of entitlement which is . . . kind of personal, too. I appreciate your clarifications/elaborations, however. -
Quote:While I think casting blame about is a bit unnecessary, I think perhaps also you are looking at this as too isolated an occurence. If you look at the bigger picture and see some of the general dissatisfaction with marketing (in the past, and currently), and with how Going Rogue has been handled in general, that might go a ways as to explaining why people might jump the gun.If people got their hopes up and then just realized they were mistaken, I'd agree with you. That's not all that's going on here. We've get quite a lot of bitter posts with people saying there's some kind of fault here and complaining that WW (and/or Jay) made a major PR gaffe by actually not saying anything one way or the other. Maybe they should have realized our community would have that reaction, but to me that's like saying they should have realized our community is extra childish.
I'm sorry, but it's the last bit that's preposterous. Being disappointed I can accept. Being disappointed to the extent that you have to declare fault and blame against someone for it makes little sense to me, especially in light of how it would be an exception to how things have worked so far (in terms of players getting NPC costumes).
While we can't expect the developers to work on a customer-mandated schedule, we certainly have a right to be disappointed in what we're receiving, and to voice it. To think we shouldn't do that on a forum made for such things is - to me- what is preposterous. We are paying customers, after all. (And yes, I'm aware no one has paid for Going Rogue yet, but many obviously intend to, even if I'm not yet one of them.) -
No, they shouldn't. They should consider giving us costume pieces for what we already pay, instead. Sorry, but showing us that picture without it being specified as an NPC and then saying "OH! You wanted that? Sorry, you don't get it. NPCs only. Unless you pay us another ten bucks after buying the expansion, which is already fourty dollars." That would leave a bad taste in my mouth. Well. More bad taste.
