Quote:I haven't lived in Cardiff for ten years, and on my visits back home I'm occupied with going down the Bay to the Doctor Who Exhibition with my mum and playing poker with my mates, so i haven't gone up to the top floor in ages. If the petshops are gone, I'm not going up there ever again - I'll keep my childhood memories of nose pressed up against the window looking at the wabbitslol ah i used to LOVE going up there
That market place has THE best "good old sweets" ever! Good memories
But is it still there? Im sure its no longer there and got changed for collectable items purely on the top floor

Europe rocks!
It's got:
The Conservatoire Des Arts Et Metier
Vodka Zoladkowa Goszka (Polish 'stomach' vodka)
The petshops on the top floor of Cardiff Indoor Market
Incredible Chicks
John Cleese
Rugby
Why do YOU love Europe?

ps I in no way mean to imply that places other thN Europe don't rock. They quite often do, in my experience. -
My new GF has also sort of encouraged me to come back to CoH after my BB vacation. We use mesenger a lot, and so I like to have it open when I'm on the PC. BB doesn't have a windowed mode, but CoH does! So here i am, trying out the 'new' I17 doppelganger content!

Jeez, I remember this SPace 1999 episode terrified me as a kid, but i didn't realise it was Mr Bronson getting dessicated by the Space Dragon until today:

As long as it's European it's on-topic in here, no need for even spurious links to the game!
Anyone old enough to remember Children Of The Stones? Creeped the hell out of me, when I was like 6 or whatever.
Also the original Tomorrow People. I'm on my iPhone so I can't link to the awesome opening theme sequence with the 'zooming into the eyeball hand' bit right now, but I will when I get home if no-one else has by then.
And The Adventure Game rocked too

Edited thread title to reflect new situation as of this morning!

After my last disastrous affair with the WoW playing control freak, I decided to take things s..l..o..w..l..y with the next potential MrsCaptainMan.
30 days, 356 pages of internet dating messages and 3 dates later, I'm very pleased to announce that it's going very well indeed and today, I got a kiss on the cheek and quite a lot of arm-touching.
It's a bit like living in a Thomas hardy novel, this romance.
She's European, naturally. Polish. Ah...what a beautiful day it is today...
it also happens to be my 40th birthday, too.

Quote:Woohoo! Fantastic! Excellent. I've been a bit lax with CoH lately (engaged in a Victorian-style courtship of a new bird and been playing Bloodbowl PC) but knowing there's another welshman on Freedom is great! I'll definitely look you up sometime, dude!Reactivated my NA account [not even at the 3 month vet mark so everybody thinks im a newb!] and now currently play 80% NA and 20% EU.
Have been on some MAJOR car crash PUGs already. Was on a posi tf last night and me being the emp defender, my job was to keep the team alive. Well that was the hardest job in the world. Most of the team just kept splitting up all over the map! But chaos is fun so i guess i cant really complain
My first day there i had an old mate recognise my global and said hiThat one moment of him going
"Holy **** its you damz!"
was worth the reactivationSlowly getting to know people on there. Playing on freedom since its easily 400 - 700 people online at the time that i play and constantly being invited for things. So send me a tell @damz if you fancy teaming
Healer damz [currently level 30 emp/rad defender]
Noob Buster [currently level 25 fire/dark scrapper]
Ultimate Damz [currently level 6 elec/shield scrapper]
As for the topic at hand:
66 month vet here, started on Freedom, US side, never considered moving over (too few servers), and now that things EU-side seem a bit grim, I'm very happy I didn't.

Only read the first post, so forgive any repetition, but:
Nonsense. Loads of European bands/singers don't sound american. British bands off the top of my head which are patently singing in a british accent are Pulp and Blur, and Gogol Bordello and a host of polish bands i hear every day don't sound american at all. and Tatu? hear them in the original and you'll realise they were only putting on a yank accent because, well, lowest common denominator and all that. In a market which even insists on remaking British films because they're not American enough, it's not surprising that you get dumbed down Americanised versions of things.

I've taken a break from CoH lately, but because of RL stuff not because of the MA, which I think is still awesome. Rewards? pfff. Story is King.
And i don't find it too difficult to find good story arcs either. Ask in the MA Arc Finder Channel, look on the Sotries and Lore forum, chekc people's sigs...it's easy.
Just don't bother trying to use the in-game MA search engine, cos that blows.

Quick responses cos i have to leave for work.
They MUST Fly.
I kinda liked the Brood, tbh. Can you maybe have both groups in it? or perhaps leave the Monkeys for just the last mission, or as the Wicked One's personal guard or something like that?
I've got a date tonight, but I'll try to cut it short if I can and play it when i get home, or definitely tomorrow if not then.
Eco. -
Well, Issue 17 went live, and with it they fixed the weird animation bug that afflicted positron when used as an AE contact. Not to worry, though, the arc's still cool!
I've altered the ending slightly to account for a 'normal' Positron
Eco. -
Cool. Looking forward to seeing what's new in the arc

Quote:There's two things combined to give you an erroneous conception here. One, I should have been clearer - We DIDN'T finish it, because it was sop utterly boring and ridiculously pointless. That badge is supposed to be gotten through PVP. not farming. But what do we have? A "gotta get it" pokemon mentality. I see that badge now and I just assume it's farmed, as opposed to what it should be, a sign someone's PVPed enough or is good enough to have earned 400 rep. If PVP's a nightmare to you, what business do you have with that badge?
(And yes, I know we're about to get the usual self serving "I farmed and met the specific numerical requirements even though I hate pvp, I earned it" crap. No.)
And the other is that you're unable to see where i'm coming from. I consider myself a badger, and to some extent i will farm for badges (hunting mobs lower than my sec level for example), but after a certain point the tedium outweighs anything i get from the badge. So no, I don't have a 'gotta get em all' mentality. 'I gotta get some' is the way I view it.
You can spin 'i only get my pvP badges through 'true' PvP' anyway you like, but if I rounded up a hundred players who were willing to congregate in WB and just stand there AFK whilst you defeated them all one by one, and you were happy to do this, then you'd be farming for it too.
And every time you defeat me in a PvP zone, that's what you're doing. If you deny this, spend some time in RV this week - I'm there off and on farming for the heavy badge. I'm on my MrCaptainMan toon, and I won't fight back if I'm attacked. Come and farm me for rep.
Eco. -
Hm...I love Facebook, especially via my iPhone, it's proved excellent for having basically an Off-Topic forum for my friends around the globe, but I sometimes hate it. I just wish they'd leave the damn thing alone and stop adding ever more crap I don't need.
I'd probably use a CoH-badge feed for it, though. I'm always trying to get my friends to play, and this might help.
Eco. -
AE and Badges in equal importance for me, then PvP badges that don't actually require me to defeat any other Players, then PvE.
I don't PvP.

Quote:Yeah yeah, you know what I mean. I won't bother repeating ST's point, which is what I was referring to.Weird, when i zone in it says:
" You are now entering a PvP area and can be attacked by other players. "

Quote:'m a badger, and my experience with trying to get the PvP rep badges (What's all that 'show of hands' nonsense - any badger knows exactly how the PvP rep badge works, wether or not he or she is anti-PvP. Someone who's anti or indifferent to badginf might not know) was attempting to farm it with an SG-mate before they did the thing which made you auto TP to the hosp upon defeat. We still kept at it in WB, hindered every now and then by PvPers who found or 'hiding place; and started to farm us lol. When that happened, we simply left the zone and did sth else for a while.Every time someone flees I have to start over. I have been working on that badge for almost 3 years on my main character and haven't gotten it yet.
Farming for that badge was awful. I don't think we finished, and of course my friends rep is definitely back to zero now.
Getting that badge by straight PvP seems like it would be a nightmare to me. It was slow enough when I was just dying over and over with a cycle of ten different toons; trying to maintain a high rate of kills with targest actively fighting back - I'm not surprised it's taking you years.

Quote:But new exploration badges are announced in the patch notes, so tyou're totally wrong about there being no PvE lure for Players. There is no attempt to draw a PvEer in with the promise of shinies, because the shinies are never alluded to in the PvE game.
[/quote]
Very few people will enter a PvP zone because there might be something useful to them in it. Most enter a PvP zone because they're curious about PvP.[/QUOTE]
Or because they've been told that there's definitely something useful int it - badges, at least. The advertising for the new zones also mentioned Shivan shards and the nukes IIRC. In any case, I haven't spoken to 'most' Players, so i can't directly refute your claim from experience (you do get around, eh?). I personally, however, first entered the PvP Zones not because I was curious about PvP, but because i was curious about the zones. A handful of new locations enter our game, and of course people are going to want to go and have a look.
I've never done a Hami raid on either side, but I've been to see the Hive and the Abyss.
And what's the first thing that you encounter when you enter these PvP Zones? A contact who tells you about the cool content. An NPC contact, offering PvE 'missions'.

One of Macskull's comments has been playing on my mind for a bit now:
"the I13 changes, which were supposed to help people like yourself (the particular "I can't PvP because..." mindset), more or less ended up doing the exact opposite. All the changes mean that now more than ever you do need a specialized build and particular powersets to perform well in PvP"
What if there was some sort of handicap system, or a 'standard PvP' build that anyone could choose at the entrances to the PvP Zones. Lorewise, say, Vanguard or whoever would offer each hero a 'power suit' or sth. The mechanical effect would be that everyone who used this would have exactly the same powers and slotting. Obviously the chosen powers would have to be fun to play with, but then there'd be a levelling of the playing field, at least for players using this vs other players also using this. If these 'power-suits' were balanced to be equally as powerful as a top-end PvPIOd out player-designed toon, then the noobs lack of any skill at PvP would be balanced out by their buiold, and the best PvPers wouldn't be at a disadvantage so they'd still be able to say 'I'm cool because of my leet skills not because of an "I win" button' or what have you.
Does the PvP community want a level playing field?

Quote:um, 'you and your ilk' don't speak for all PVE'ers. I have ZERO problem with the badges in the PvP zones and I'm a big badge hunter.
P.S. And if someone wants a reason: VARIETY. Having some of the badges in the PvP zones makes getting them a bit DIFFERENT. I like that.
The 'you and your ilk' comment was just a retort to Bill's using it - he did first, to refer to a big group of someone, I'm not sure who. Maybe he meant me and other people who share my exact same opinion on the matter lol. If that's the case, then you aren't my ilk, I guess.
It's a ridiculous phrase anyway rofl.

Quote:OK, ok, I'll bow to the pressure of my adoring fans lol. I really am immensely pleased to have won, tbh. Dal, who made your amazing sig picture thingy? I've been wondering about maybe getting some pictorial ads for my arcs made up.I fourth that motion. In the words of the bard himself, "One animation bug does not a winning arc make."

Quote:Yes, I fully understand this, and it's a shame I guess, but there's no way I'm going to do anything at all to alter any of my toons' builds to make them better at PvP. I'm not a huge fan of any game without a plot, tbh, apart from some driving games and sports games (and even amongst those, my favourite is TOCA 2 because it was a driving game with a plot lol), but I have played COD multiplayer, and it was mindless fun for a throwaway half hour.Insert standard "you need to build your character for PvP" and "if you want to get better at PvP you need to put effort into doing so" comments here (not being snarky, but that's how these things go). It's really really sad that the I13 changes, which were supposed to help people like yourself (the particular "I can't PvP because..." mindset), more or less ended up doing the exact opposite. All the changes mean that now more than ever you do need a specialized build and particular powersets to perform well in PvP, and you need to learn an entirely new ruleset. Instead, the changes drove a good portion of the PvP playerbase away from the game, created resentment among those that remained, and didn't bring in significant numbers. I know I'm ranting here, but I wasn't even heavily invested in PvP at the time and I absolutely hate what it did to the community.
PvP in MMOs rarely is, unless that game is designed for PvP, like Global Agenda is. You'll hear a lot of people say "if I want PvP I'll go play Call of Duty" or something similar, and that's because that game is almost entirely based around combat where you don't need to balance classes because everyone's on roughly the same footing (minus reflexes and such). It used to be that you could step into a PvP zone in this game and, provided you had at least some understanding of what was going on around you, stay alive and sometimes even pull off a few kills. These days, that's a lot more difficult.
'Mindless fun for a throwaway half-hour' is nit a description you could apply to CoH PvP, unless your idea of fun is repeatedly being defeated.
Someone posted the RV trailer a while back. I laughed out loud when i sw it, especially the two toons stood there duking it out by the pillbox. RV neverlooks like that. Everyon'es got SJ and Superspeed, for starters. My main has Fly. Fly is I gather rubbish for PvP?
