  1. I saw 'low level' and I thought 'hm, this might be fun'.

    Then I saw 'bring a 50'. Nope, that's not low-level.

That's a shame, Sam. The Halloween trial is really quite cool. It would be an awesome normal content solo mission, even without the very last bit with the GM.

I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments regarding the arena-style hub or lobby approach. I like overworld contacts and mission doors too.

Wrong. They are asking for the game to cater to them AS WELL AS to those who like large team group content, for example.

It's not "You have a sandwich. I want a sandwich. Ima take your sandwich", it's 'You have a sandwich, I want a sandwich. Let's BOTH have a sandwich!"

No it wouldn't. Because for solo-centric players such as myself, a HUGE part of the draw of the game is chatting in globals with our ingame friends about the game we are all playing, and about other stuff like life, the universe and everything too.

One of us is missing the point of what the MM in MMOG means. It doesn't mean that the silent bots helping you in a trial happen to have humans behind them somewhere.

The person who started this is not even asking to solo it.

So where this idea that folks want to solo the event is coming from I don't know.

The only object was to the silly notion that MMO always means TEAMS. It doesn't. That has nothing to do with wanting to solo the winter event. It also has nothing to do with wanting the minimum dropped to 8 and having a more realistic way of forming for the event when player apathy creeps in during the later days of the event.
To add a bit more info to my OP, I'm not even particularly bothered about fighting the GM in it. I and my SG-mate like to have fun in cool maps when we play. Trials, TFs, seasonal events, they invariably have interesting and unique maps that are IMO worth savouring, and massive impatient fight fests aren't conducive to taking a stroll and smelling the roses, as it were. I have no problem with the actual mobs inside being som uber they need a dozen PCs to take them out. I just want to be able to see the content at my own pace.

You bought something called 'Generic Single Player Shooter X'? That sounds awful. Try the CoD:MW games, they're great. Also, they have online multiplayer modes too, if you don't like SP campaings (I haven't tried the multiplayer myself since I don't like games withoiut plot, but i hear they're well regarded among multiplayer shooter fans.

Portal 2 is also awesome, and it's got a 2-player co-op campaign too.

Well, technically, I'm not whining about the large group content as such, but the lack of small group options for said content. If someone wanted the maximum to be raised to 100 players, I'd support them. You want large groups? Fill your boots. I want small groups to be availabe AS WELL. Sux to be me, eh?

  11. Lol perma death is an amusing concept. How about an mmo where you only had one character, and upon your first defeat it was deleted.

Having a level 50 would really be worth bragging rights then!

I was once killed by M&M's at a con by playing Paranoia. I didn't have the clearence for the yellow M&M's.. So I then turned around and shot their character for being a traitor to friend computer... then planted the evidence that they were a traitor to friend computer.

I can not beleive that someone didn't already say Paranoia online...
I think Paranoia Online could work. The pnp game also had to require players to get over the need to progress characters they might have got from other rpgs. The problem would be that it would need massive amounts of content. Some sort of AE type system would maybe be suitable.

Paranoia has one of the best gameworlds ever invented imo. I loved that game.

A Call of Cthulhu mmo would also be an interesting experiment, since the end result of 'levelling' your character is inevitably death or insanity removing your character from the game. Some of the very best moments in my pnp rpg life have been the ends of characters.

  15. A superhero mmo is an excellent idea.

But some IPs, if converted into an Mmo, would possibly be utterly silly.

If I was a multibillionaire, I'd happily squander a few million to develop ludicrous games just to see the hilarious bad reviews:

Final Destination - for players with terminal altitis
ET the Extraterrestrial - I'd make this pvp-focussed
Pacman - 2D, original graphics, expand the maze to gogsmtic proportions, players are either pacmen or ghosts
    Tic tac toe - er...
Kafka's The Trial - no instructions, no levelling, no point
    Eastenders the MMO.

    Anyone got any more?

It's utterly moronic the way the caption boxes are fixed. They are mostly off upper left, which is where my map and nav bar is.

Hate the captions. Why they aren't speech bubbles I don't know. Then, we could rotate and see them.

This change won't affect me, or my levelling, or inf generation much. I suppose that angers the coh "purist's" who think farming AE is evil or something, but I don't play this game to make THEM happy. lol. I've been playing for 6 yrs, and just don't see the point of grinding my way through 50 levels when I've already done the story arcs, and don't care much for the ''AE Lotto'' as I call it - wading through subpar arcs looking for decent ones. I'll just take my quick route to 50, and start playing endgame content - which is what I am interested in. Of course, I may not be the typical player, but then again, I don't want to be the typical player. :P
it looks to me like you only posted this to get that first paragraph in as some sort of boast.

...when I worked in a bar, there was this customer who for some reason liked to talk a lot about how much he could drink and that he could drink anything. One day, he produced a carton of eggs, demanded a pint glass, cracked ten of them into it and downed the lot, raw and in one. It was utterly pointless, but he was all "See? I told you! And I could drink another ten if I wanted to, too!"

I and the other barman present hadn't egged him on or anything; his 'impressive' feat was entirely for his own benefit, even if he thought he was impressing the people watching.

But except in cases like TopDoc's, who made a CEBR for every server just because he wanted to (and he plays the game as well since he's on Repeat Offenders and I team with him on lowbies! Who would guess?), there's no need to have more than one or two farming toons, and two if you farm every day because you'll want more mileage from the market slots and stuff.

Funnily enough, my SS/Fire is poor now because I was a bit bothered by my 20ish human-only PB and SD/MA Tanker end usage so I bought 4 health uniques crafted at buy it NAO prices, I'm helping the market am I not? Plus I sent the rest he had (750 mil) to my SM/Elec Brute to IO her since she's close to 50. Sooo are any of these three toons I spent money on lately optimal for farming or even soloing AVs/PVP? No, just like the myriad of toons I saw people who farm way more than me play.

By the way, usually when I farm with my SS/Fire it's because I feel like killing a lot of stuff and 'relax'. Because if I wanted to make money faster than I do with him killing hordes of 54s, I can get a shelved toon and buy recipes and sell crafted IOs, no resorting to flipping or etc. The toon who actually funded my SS/Fire was a 40 rad/psi def I don't play since I left in i12 - spent one week on the market doing this (buying desirable recipes for less than 50k infl each and selling the IOs for 10 mil, then I stepped up for more expensive ones), 20 minutes at a time, in one week he made more money than my SS/Fire ever did (the 1.5 bil I threw on the brute). And as I said, I didn't flip stuff or sold for over the asking price, so why is farming frowned upon since it's less profitable (although less boring for me, not every week I feel like marketeering)? I can do more money on a level 1 whatever/whatever toon (or several since at level one you have too few market slots) than with my 50+3 1.5 bil SS/Fire in a week just using WW.

And still, when I'm not bored/sick (I get sick a lot that's why I post so much on nights and weekends since I work by day), I may be farming and I'm always watching the server channels to see if there's a TF forming so I can go have fun be it on a Posi on a DO'ed toon or a LGFT on another one, even my farming brute has done most high end tfs because I wanted to take a break from farming. So yeah... we kinda 'mix', people who say 'farmers are a different kind of player' probably had one or two bad experiences with the two farmers out of 100 who think farming is 'the only way to play', but it's no different than the occasional stuck up RP'er/PVP'er you'll find (emphasis on 'occasional', because I get along just fine with a RPing team and when I was finally trying PVP - right before i13 landed - I was getting my **** handed to me, I was in a good arena team versus another vet arena team, on a non optimal PVP build, and all I got was friendly advice and that 'I was doing well for my first time in Arena Team PvP' even though it was not my impression lol).
All that might as well be in Martian for all the sense it made to me. My eyes glazed over bigtime. Is that what a farmer's stream-of-consciousness looks like?

    Batman doesn't need Nightwing.

But in any case, it's not Batman you should be referencing, it's Superman, or the Silver Surfer. And Maelstrom is no Silver Surfer, I don't care how much magic juice the devs want to give him.

  24. I tried a Beam/Poison Corruptor, but the redreaw looks terrible. I was thinking of Plant Control/Poison, but I don't think it exists.

Can anyone recommend anything that goes well with /Poison? I can play any AT apart from MM.

  25. After a few levels of playing with my Beam/Poison, I'm not bothered about its damage output etc, but the redraw is driving me up the wall. It just ooks really stupid.

So I'm going to try rerolling him as a Plant/Control/Poison something (if that's a viable combo - I haven't actually checked lol).

Cheers for all the good advice.
