  2. Instead of making a new thread, I thought maybe I could get some advice on my DM/SD build here since so much has already been discussed!

I would like to stay away from using purples or hami's or PVP IO's if possible, and I plan to use the spiritual RECH alpha (And probably the heal/regen incarnate as well?). I like the way it looks right now but I'm worried I may have missed something or slotted incorrectly somewhere. I'm open to changing epics or dropping touch of fear, but I don't want to have shadow maul for sure.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

    SS/EA Build help

The other incarnates I am using are Ion, reactive, and spiritual (I think those are the names, lol. The lightning nuke, the fire proc, and the recharge alpha).

I actually really like the idea of using the bonus slot I already have on health - I have a very noticeable regen rate in play, way more than I had even thought about when building the character the first time. Energize is almost permanent, and I can actually use it before the endurance/regen part of the power ends when entropic aura has enough enemies in range. I think I will add that slot to health - is it worth it to go further and add another slot to put it at the ED cap? Probably not, but I thought I would ask!

Should I not bother with the slot in energy protection then, if I am not adding damage resist where I can? I could remove the slot and just use the 3% defense in the native slot instead. That adds more options, like finishing the Red Fortune in Kinetic Shield to get negative up over 40%.

I actually don't have the PVP IO built in yet, so I'm glad you pointed out that it's not exactly the right one! I actually have another LOTG in that slot right now, I mistakenly put the PVP one in as I was looking at where I could improve the build later. If I instead use the Glad's 3%, it seems like I'm going a little overboard on S/L/Fire/Cold/Energy defense. That opens up even more doors to move things around!

I actually really like Oblit's other bonuses, but I'll look at the other options there - I would like to sustain the amount of recharge I have in the build right now though if possible.

As far as Energy Drain goes, it seems to already always be up and double stacked - using a defense set here feels like overkill.

Energize's overslotting I actually really like, but maybe you're right about it being too much - I don't care about the set bonus, I was just looking at the heal values which are really over the top with the bonus from the alpha slot. I'll use that extra slot somewhere else, removing the heal/end!

That's a lot to think about, thank you for pointing all of that out! I'll see what I can come up with and post it up later.

Any other things that stick out as 'off'?

EDIT: Also, I don't seem to ever use Overload. Should I keep this power? There are places to put the other LOTG Recharge (like energy drain). Is there something else I could have here that would be more useful? Or should I keep overload 'just in case' ?
  4. I would appreciate the teleport attack test! I'm sure you can just use a rocket pack and give it a shot with no trouble.

    Thanks for the responses everyone!

The problem with the pairing of these two sets lies in the use and lack of use of rage. If you ignore rage, you lose quite an effective damage and accuracy booster. If you do use it you have to manage crashes which are slightly more managable when you're in the thick of it with EA now.

Energy drain, if well slotted for defense covers a little less than 6% of your crash defense debuff, if you fully saturate. You still need to use a purple insp or two to cover the rest of the defense loss.

The real issue with the defense loss is that once the defense is reduced there's little of anything to back it up. The resistance are middle of the road at best and the self heal won't sustain you through the duration of the crash.

Unless you plan on relying very heavily on inspirations I highly recommend another primary with EA.

It's doable, but unless you are doing it for concept or for the sheer heck of it, it's not a great combination.
Sorry, I guess I should have explained a little better. The character is already 50 and I have already invested in a similar to the above build pretty heavily. Testing in S/L ambush farms at +3/x8, always stacking rage when it is up and with perma hasten, I have no trouble at all dealing - I use an orange insp during rage crashes and the occasional green when energize or rebirth isn't up. I won't be changing primary or secondary, I'm just asking for whatever minor tweaks are needed to 'finish' the build up right.

Thank you for your insights though!
  6. I have a concept character that I would like to be a scrapper, but I can't find a list of sets/powers that can't be activated while flying/hovering (like, Foot Stomp couldn't be activated while flying for example on a tanker). I'd appreciate some help in narrowing down the choices that would work well for the hoverscrapper concept.

    Thanks!

    SS/EA Build help

I've had an SS/EA brute forever but stopped playing it because EA was not so much fun. Now with the changes, it's a great set, but I'm having doubts about my build right now. So take a look, and I'd really appreciate suggestions on what to change about it - I mostly want to do well in itrials, TF's, and regular play. I would also like to keep room for growth, like adding a purple set to either KO Blow and/or Foot Stomp later on.

A couple things to note, I still have one slot to spend, and I'm using the lowest level available on the procs (performance shifter, Numinas, Miracle, Regenerative Tissue, Force Feedback)

    Thanks for any advice!

  8. Nice!

A note on fire breath - I believe there is a new animation for it available, so check the costume powers section. I really like all of the new fire animations And Fireball + Firebreath is really good! Give it a try, I think you'll like it when they are both well slotted.
  9. Fights in Pocket D

Why not? Even if the lore states that Zero keeps things in line, there is a fighting system in place with the arena terminals. Powers do work, to some extent, even without the arena being taken into account. There is also an arena map that copies a section of Pocket D.

As long as everyone involved agrees on it, I think it is fine. But that goes for most things!

I'm terrible at RP, and I've not done any extensive text fighting, only little things. I'm also terrible at PvP, but I've done lots of PvP IC to settle IC fights. More often than not I choose the arena system to decide whether someone can beat up my characters.

    The Level System and RP

I mostly take level into account, within reason. If a level one character is boasting of being able to defeat anyone, I'm not even going to bother talking to them. It is easy to level, and there are lots of ways to do it - if you can't even be bothered to get in a farm and do it the easy way, let alone doing it the regular way with content, then I won't be bothered to acknowledge how powerful your character is, since I have put in the effort to both RP and level mine.

But, there are exceptions, and as long as everyone involved agrees on it, I think it is fine. Sometimes you need an instant powerful character to RP a storyline, and with friends this makes sense.

    Powers Outside of Game Mechanics

This is fine, and, I think it is great usually! There's no reason to block out the chance for creativity. There are only so many things you can do if you are limited to just the powers you can use in missions. If the 'different' powers are played well and described well, I think it would make for a lot of fun.

I've never really had a character with powers outside of those available, but I'm sure as long as everyone involved agrees on it, they would just make for a better experience.

    Stealth, Psychic, and Other Stuff

I like to be open to just about anything, and for me I don't mind any of that stuff unless it doesn't make sense. It all has to be taken one case at a time. Usually if it won't have a lasting impact on my character, sure, you can see me! Or you can read my mind! Or anything else within reason.

As long as everyone involved agrees...

It seems like for the most part a lot of complaints are about stuff like godmoding. I'm not a fan of -constant- posing and arguments about which character is better or stronger or smarter or faster. I think due to some bad experiences a lot of people are closed off, either to making new friends, or allowing outside influences on their characters. Really this is unfortunate to me. I love meeting someone new, in Pocket D or otherwise, and seeing what kind of changes that meeting will bring - either for my characters or theirs! That's what it is all about really, developing a story with other people that you can look back on and think "Hey, that was SO much fun!".

I like what Artificial Intel said about Pocket D and SG Base only RPers. Really, why not do both! Being dependent on one clique really limits you, sometimes because you don't have someone online to play with and sometimes because your characters become so involved in that particular group that playing outside of it stops making sense.

Someone mentioned something about character bios. I tend to write my own very differently from the way most do - I don't like seeing a long list of character traits, tattoos, necklaces, quirks, and stuff like that. I want to find those things out when I RP with you. Show me, don't tell me! My own bios tend to be in -very short story- format, describing an important part of my character's history and giving some insight to who they are, or who they were. This isn't to give other -characters- access to 'knowing something about' mine, but rather to give other -players- some kind of idea of whether or not they want to RP with me.

In summary, everything is fine as long as the people you are playing with agree on it. As long as you don't look at RP as some kind of competition (which, for me, it never is) the little stuff won't matter so much. Even if you are as bad at RP as I am

I'm just a rarity I guess, who doesn't believe in reserving tact for complete strangers. That's just too much caring and emotional investment without a return. I much prefer brutal honesty.

Seriously though. Fun guide! It's nice to hear the darker side of things for once. Lots of interesting points.

I do believe though, that /Dark Armor for a brute can be effective when played correctly and slotted correctly, although the average player may not be able to handle those things right away. And, of course, the player has to be willing to understand that /Dark doesn't operate at the same effectiveness as most of the other brute armor sets.

Regardless of what others have said, and what numbers they may have, any of my brutes that are not /dark armor have performed in teams far better than any /dark armor that I've played or played alongside. Of course, this could all be a matter of perception, right? Or maybe I'm just teaming with people who don't know how to play /dark armor correctly. But I do have to say, some of them were very experienced, and seemed to enjoy playing the set, even if it meant being weaker than other brutes.

So, all in all, thank you for the informative guide. It may help new players of brutes find an "easier" set to try first. Of course, I make my characters for concept reasons, so I'll just make sure I don't come up with any dark ideas!
