I wouldn’t necessarily couch it in the same terms, but… I found myself actually regretting re-upping my subscription a couple of days ago. Aside from the actual launch day, I’ve yet to see more than two or three players on Protector. The banner events, when they happen, are extremely frustrating (no: impossible) to solo, and as has been pointed out elsewhere, boss-level baddies while ToTing on medium- to low-level characters is no fun.

A friend of mine who started CoH six months before me (who got me addicted, in fact) says he’s quitting after the Christmas event because CoH has become boring. Our server is practically empty of players and those who are on only seem interested in AE.

I like a lot of the new content, but I’m missing the fun that I used to have in the game. The fact that the Mac OS X client implodes if you look at it funny (or zone, or run across a zone, or fly, or engage in AoE combat…) isn’t helping any, either.

To the original question: should I try to submit this new behavior as a bug, or is it now “normal” behavior and I should give up my keybindings?

If you type your special characters in TextEdit and then paste into CoH, the clipboard is already converted to Unicode before you paste, so those characters do show up identically.
I’d be happy if the game even let me enter Windows-style ALT+keypad codes. I’m fairly certain that Sims3 and Spore both allow entry of accented characters and both use cider, so it *should* be possible…

Also, while I’m at it, is there any known interest/effort to expose the WHOLE Mac keyboard to the game? In Windows I could enter “special” characters like em dash, symbols, etc. using tedious keypad ALT+0xxx sequences. The Mac client won’t let me do that and it won’t let me use the key combinations I’m used to as a Mac user (e.g., Shift-Option-dash for an em dash, Option-e E for é, etc.). With Mac OS X 10.6’s great new auto-correction/substitution functionality I’d really love to be able to use the full power of the keyboard to express myself, but I feel constantly hobbled by the limitations in the Mac client.

Oddly enough, I have the opposite experience. City of Heroes under any version of Windows running in Boot Camp on my 2.0 GHz 20-inch (ATI) iMac is far, far more stable than the Mac client on that Mac or my 3.06 GHz 24-inch iMac (NVidia GeForce 8800). Even after trying the video suggestions mentioned elsewhere and slavishly using /reloadgfx, the game crashes regularly: when zoning, when upgrading enhancements, in combat. Support for Mac keyboard elements (access to accents, using Command instead of Option for Alt, etc.) is nonexistent and you can't even use the Windows Alt+keypad numbers. My enjoyment of and time in the game has plummeted since the Mac client was released.
  6. Hoping soon? I'd really like to be able to exorcise Vista from my iMac…
  7. Is there a link anywhere to changes that have been made to the chat system; more specifically, to the use of <color> attributes? They've either been changed in ways not obvious to me or are broken, and I'd like to find out which is the case before I go changing some 30+ characters' bind files.
