Clearly you are frustrated with having to play against a Taunt team, and it's understandable. You want to get as many points as you can, just like us.

If taunters go down to two then we'll adjust.

    Factual Statements

    1) Taunt is broken in the fact that on certain maps it can not be broken even if line of sight is broken

    2) Taunt is broken in the fact that you can theoretically force a tie and play completely non competitively if you wanted, which is one of the reasons why stalkers are limited to two per match.

    3) Taunt is no different then old school perma caging. If you are a halfway decent player you can completely eliminate 1 opposing player from the match.

    Personal feelings regarding taunt:

    1) Tauntbots are an excuse for putting bad players into a team environment (re: Kat). If you cant survive or evade, we can put you on a sack of large HP where you can autofollow 1 person with 1 power on autofire.

    2) Having to bring another taunter to counter an opposing team's taunter is kinda retarded, you basically force two people to fiteclub the entire match. If anyone watched the first BoBC vs U2BG you would know what I mean, it was absolutely hilarious watching the taunters race around the map.

    3) If you are on a taunter you are not learning evasion, you are not learning locking, you are not learning to pursue... You are basically learning bad habits that will just bring down your skill.

I think limiting taunters to 2 per match is a good idea imo. Taunters would still be a serious threat if played correctly, and they could still be countered with a damage heavy team.

    -Kiri
By limiting taunters you are limiting the resources of teams. At least one of the teams (CIGAL and EP?) sometimes has issues having enough players show up with the right toons. By taking out their extra taunters you are taking away their option to play for a tie, which as much as you (or me) may dislike, it is a competitive decision. Taking away that option would give a clear advantage to the teams who can constantly field players with decent Psi/Ems, Emps and disruption.
  3. Limiting ATs or powersets is a step in the wrong direction. Some powers (ala sharks) have forced it but Taunt is not one of those powers. If we start this, we might as well limit the number of Psi/Ems on a team because that's why we have taunters in the first place.

Limiting the numbers of taunters is a bad idea. If you go down that route you'll be catering to the teams that want nothing but Emps and Psi/Ems which is boring as hell. Can we please keep a little variety?

  5. "Well, thankfully, Castle and the rest of the development staff is smarter than that. Castle seems to have a handle on good PvP requiring that the PvP game be different from the PvE game. Issue 13 was a step in the right direction for where PvP play needs to go."

I for one enjoyed the diversity of i12. Sure there were some problems, but today what kind of variety do we have in PVP?

In Zones we have a huge amount of stalkers villside and heroside we have a ton of scrappers and tanks and a few blasters.

In arena we have Psi/EM blasters, and Emps.

Occasionally you'll get some disruption toons (TA, FF, Grav) and some taunters (Brutes, Tanks) in both avenues but it's not even close to the diversity we had before i12. How is this a good thing? I thought the idea was to make PVP more accesible to a broader range of powersets and the devs have accomplised the exact opposite.

In i12 we stil had FOTM builds but you could still be competitive on a wide assortment of ATs and powersets.

What we have now is really kind of boring.

  8. From the patch notes:

"NPC critters that are resurrected will be unselectable while going through the resurrection animation."

This also applies to PC characters as I found out this morning briefly after the patch. This means players who farm PVP IOs using targetted attacks will loose their target when it rezzes so you will no longer be able to AFK farm unless you have pets or use Damage Auras or non-targetted PBAOE attacks.

    Have fun!
  9. I for one have had alot of fun and appreciate all the work you guys have put into it. Being an organizer takes up a huge amount of time and there are few rewards and "thank yous" for the time put in.

If there is a Season 2 or even a ladder of some type I'll most likely put a team together. I learned alot about the larger team PVP and would like to continue down that road.

    Thanks PVPEC for doing this.

ALSO that is not the SAME team that was run vs u2bg the team vs u2bg was 2 emps 2 stalkers 4 taunters (I say taunter because I dont wanna be forced to forfiet incase there were brutes instead of tanks) That line up was meant to get a win not a draw and it did. And you guys need to get some damn confidence in your jump team. You proved last night you dont have a bad jump team. Just get more practice on it. You guys have the most potential to improve, running taunting draw line ups isnt going to do that.
I agree about our Jump teams. The problem is getting everyone to show up. We tend to use the weird line ups when we don't have the right toons/people on. When everyone shows up we go for the kill, otherwise we have to adjust accordingly.

I mean seriously, I don't mean to don the tin foil cap or anything, but you can't honestly tell me that playing to tie is a legitimate strategy, I know that Kat is a bad leader, but did she really con you into believing that??

Also, just to clarify, so I don't hurt anyone's feelings, I didn't say that dUmb was breaking any rules by bringing MM's (or the mass lag it creates), or Kat's line up is illegal (even if playing to tie is cheap). I just said that refusing to reschedule is just as much a dickmove as the said two examples.

    -Kiri

No it was intended to force a tie of course. Given the resources we had at the time it was the best decision for us to make. Why would we go in with a line up we knew was going to loose when we could get more points by playing for a tie? I just wanted to point out we did what was best for US not what was worst for YOU.

What Kat's team did had everything to do with giving us the most points we could and nothing to do with limiting how many points you had to "gain." We worked with what we had to get the best possible result for us. You not gaining points was a byproduct of that thought process. The way you worded it makes it sound like we are colluding with other teams to limit your success. Or maybe I'm just paranoid (looks around...)

1 - Never argued against Fire/Kin. OP made a statement about not wanting a Fire/Kin so that part of your "um, good" argument is lost.

2 - The difference between killing the mobs in 5 or 7 seconds is not worth the potental downtime of dying. You make no $$ when you are flat on your back.

3 - I can build an AE mission that will take advantage of the aggro abilities of a tank...solo. When you hit the aggro cap, anything extra ignores you until ether aggro wears off or a spot opens up on your aggro list. By throwing taunts around I can keep mobs coming at me while never stopping the carnage.

Your entire, slightly insulting, counter argument is, um, funny and entertained me.

    1. In response to when you said "In that case the killing speed between the three AT's listed is marginal and I would prefer the extra aggro control along with extra survivability as I gather and position them." You left the path of talking only about tanks which is why I responded the way I did about tanks being the slowest/worst of the ATs I listed.

    2. Given that I mentioned you can tailor an AT to a regular world map or tailor an AE map to your AT you won't be spending any time on your back because you can create a situation where your AT is unkillable, that means a tank is still the slowest/worst AT for farming out of the ATs I listed. You can make any AT as tough as a tank but you can't make a tank kill as fast as the other ATs.

*note I have not said tanks cannot farm, only that they are the worst when compared to fire/kins, scrappers, and brutes.

    3. As a solo farmer you are already at the aggro cap once you engage the bad guys. I'll have as much aggro on a fire/kin or elec/sd scrapper as your tank while solo farming.

I apologize for being slightly insulting. I find farming very boring. As such, I want a toon that will allow me to spend the least amount of time farming as possible and hope to save people time by providing them with good farming advice. When I see bad advice that does the opposite I tend to get a little snarky.

I have farmed with a fire/fire/fire tank, a sd/SS/fire tank, elec/SD scrapper, spines/dark scrapper, elec/sd brute, warshade, and of course fire/kin troller. Out of the bunch I prefer the fire/kin and elec/SD scrapper. I've spent a great deal of time farming over the past three years (+?) ever since starting a second account and those two toons are by far the best I've used to farm with.

Keep in mind, it depends on what's being farmed. Money? Tickets? Drops? Merits? So the OP could be interested in using a Tank to keep his farmer open to numerous types of farms. Your Fire/Kin will certainly be faster, but in some situations, he's too vulnerable. On a Battle Maiden farm, ran solo at x8, my SD/Elec is almost as fast as my Fire/Kin. Only he doesn't ever get stunned or drop dead. So there's reason to want one over the other sometimes.

Agreed. So long as you've also thrown in plenty of recharge and you've made your toon sufficiently durable.

Since the thread is about farming I was referrring to farming builds for trollers (namely fire/kins.) Clearly an ice/ff isn't going to be killing anyhting as fast as regular farming builds.

As far as what is farmed, as I mentioned earlier, no matter what you are farming there is a map that will be best to any particular AT. No matter what you are farming (tickets, purples, inf, XP,) there is a map out there that best suits a better AT than a Tank for farming purposes, so why use a tank? Tanks are fine for farming but a scrapper, troller, and even brute are better. That's all I am saying.

Pure killing speed is not the only measure of how well any set can farm.
Given that you can tailor an AT to regular-world farm missions or tailor an AE mission to your AT, survivability is not an issue. Killing speed IS an issue. Tanks kill the slowest out of scraps, trollers, brutes and tanks. Why kill slow when you can kill fast and get more rewards faster? This is 1+1 = 2 stuff but you are making 1+1 = 0.

You want aggro control? Are you farming alone or with a group? Why are you farming with a group? You are going to make less $$. If you are farming alone you are the only thing to have aggro. If you are farming minions why do you need "extra" survivability? And by the time you have finished "gathering" them, a fire/kin troller is already on to the next mob.

Your entire argument is not, um, good.

SD/Fire and SD/Elec arnt horrible choices either, but for flavor you can go with Axe or Mace.Super Strength?No..and no.Pyre Epic for Fireball?Thats upto you, but so far I dont need it on my Tanker.

Here's how my SD/Axe plays out in a Farming situation.

Run into the mob, hit my BU and by the time I do, my AAO has grabbed up the + Damage Bonus.I use Whirling Axe and hit everything for 160 damage, and knock the mob down.I swing my Pendulum attack, and bust 5 targets for 300 damage.I use Cleave and hit 2-4 targets for 400 damage on average, then follow up the last moments of my BU with Shield charge.KA-BOOM!450 damage baby!(Note : These numbers are based on my Tanker being level 40.)

Tankers can do damage.Dont listen to players that dont know.Listen to those that do.

If you want to see how my SD/Axe performs, find me on Freedom.Personal Message me after reading this post, and ill give you my Tankers name, and ill happly show you how it performs.
Sure tankers can farm, but the idea behind farming is to maximize rewards for time spent farming. If you want to do that then pick a scrapper (elec, spines), troller (fire/kin) or brute (elec, SS.) If you honestly think your SD/Axe will beat any of those then you haven't experienced just how good they are.

I supsect there will be patch notes for this one. Although they are usually frustratingly slow to post them.

    From the "Server Status" page:

"Patch notes will be available after the downtime."
