    Soloing set fo 8

But honestly, why should controlling be slow and laborous? Why not have our cake and eat it too? After all, there's no sense in having cake if you can't eat it, right? It says right in the at description that controllers grow to be the strongst characters in the game, but save for a few well-known combinations, they really don't seem that way
Welllllllllll, sort of. I think a lot of people confuse strong for 8 man spawn killing uberness. Strong can also mean, safe or support or debuff. It's not all about the red numbers. My earth/rad is a "powerful" controller, but its not going to clear a map like my fire/kin.

I ran my Fire/Storm/Stone through a mish set at +2/8. It was survivable but I think for its build +2/6 may work smoother. I was never worried about dying so much it was really the speed that the 8 spawn went down. I'd rather move on a little faster. But its very doable with a more expensive build and I'm sure I could tweak the tactics a bit or drop down on the level of the enemies.

I haven't tried setting for 8 but my fire/storm handles 5 rather easily. I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to go to 8. Hmmm will have to check on it and report back. I'd also think that Ill/rad could quite easily as well as plant kin/rad/storm.

And yeah, I'm in the camp where I think it might work best if it were something like Kurt Busiek did with the Marvels mini-series, where you see this incredible world through the eyes of "NPCs." It would mirror the same awe that hopefully we'd feel as the audience, and it could work well as a narrative device as long as it didn't become TOO expository in its dialog and such.

Or the whole thing could be about Azuria's inability to padlock a storage shed...
    Pants or no pants?

The reason I ask is that I dont want the Earth Armor graphic overshadowing my Costume, which means I would skip it.
This really is the ONLY sticking point for the Fire/Storm/Earth option.
Would I be seriously missing out by not taking the Armor ?

    Fissure, armor and earth's embrace.

Yes, I hate the graphics of the armor as well. It is fugly, but the defense of the shields is nice with steamy mist. I didn't focus on defensive IO bonuses though as fire/storm really needs recovery, end and recharge bonuses. You COULD do it without the armor, but your survivability will go down accordingly.

...I'd realize it's called City of Heroes for a reason. Paragon City is home to a legion of costumed adventurers. Sure, Statesman and the Phalanx are important, but they're not the star. The city is.

As such, a movie would be an episodic tale of interweaving stories all focussing on various people in Paragon City and how the city and its history shaped them. Think Crash with superheroes and alien invasions.

There could be the struggling young heroine only recently arrived in the city, the former costumed crusader who was paralyzed during the first Rikti War, the newsstand vendor who sees all the heroic headlines each day and has become jaded to the whole hero business thing. You could also show new employee orientation at Crey, a teenager who comes under peer pressure to try out Dyne or the Hellion Initiate needing to prove himself by doing his first arson job. There wouldn't be a lot of costumed fights involving the main characters and an awful lot of dialogue. There would however be at least one major battle between the Phalanx and a suitably impressive enemy serving as the backdrop for part of the narration, and I'd like to give screentime to other Paragon luminaries such as the Clockwork King as well.

Just never in a major role. The city's the star, and it's made up of ALL the people who live in it.
Ding ding ding we have a winner.
  9. Then again earth's aoe hold has you standing there hyperventilating to a vent of volcanic gas. Just saying.
  10. My Fire/Storm/Earth was picking off +4and5s in Cimerora in the early/mid 40s. At 50 it does +2/ 5 man missions easily solo. (Haven't tried harder settings but I think it's doable)
  11. I'm not telling anyone HOW to play. Sure if its your team, do it your way, but at the very least see if the person you are so willing to kick based on powersets alone, can play the sets properly before you decide they are unworthy of your (generic your not you your) scary good team first. To kick someone just because of what they are without seeing if they can play it to your (generic your) standards is dictator-ish.
  12. I think they should follow a new character (hero) through their introduction to the city, with history and lore sprinkled in the background to simulate a players experience.

This. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Having the star doesn't mean you have to be a dictator.

I'm not disputing you, but it's not something I've noticed happen from Spectral Terror.
The reason you don't see it CMA is that once they get feared they stay put, so few rarely get away.
  15. It helps the team overall, it may not "help" the tank but it serves it's purpose on the team.

Soloing AVs, while impressive, isn't the ultimate yardstick for judging a controllers worth. It's a nice trick. It's a niche. But it's far from the be-all-end-all in controllerdom.

As far as the reward deprivation from deceive..........oh boy, here we go. Read LocalMan's guide or search for one of the many times this comes up in the forums.

I love having an Illusionist (or Illusionista) show up on a team. KB issues add barely any real trouble to a fight, and anyone that can't manage/get that uptight about it really needs to play a different game.
Oh sorry, but I usually just get Hidden Valley Wrong Dressing.
  18. Knockback.........

Oh and the leader was roasted wrong smothered in wrong sauce with a side of wrongkabobs and a wrong salad.

I'll give you flash, I'll even give you "neither are ' absolutely needed' in some builds", but I'd never say that deceive is useless.

This says it all really. The OP can't find an AE team, I don't think they are all that worried about servers or sizes or population. They can't get their PL on.

    Maybe they'll enjoy this.
  22. No,that was pretty clear. I guess I just haven't run into anything intolerable yet.
