    Same exact answer.

Will it be able to farm? Yes.
Will it be able to farm safely? Yes-ish (lack of a heal reduces answer from solid yes)
Will it be able to farm quickly? Not really.

If you are farming to extract reward quickly and safely you only have half of your bases covered. To me farming is about speed, efficiency, quantity and safety...get it done quick and easy and in large amounts to maximize reward opportunities. There are other builds that will farm circles around it.
  3. Teamplay early, solo efficiently after imps, solo uber post epic aoe damage power.

Flashfire-firecages is your bread and butter-every spawn control/set up containment combination. Followed by closing in for fulcrum shift then aoe damage power + hotfeet. Char and even cinders for those times you need extra control. Char is also a good source of single target damage and control. In the meantime the imps are mopping up whats left. Transference and Transfusion as needed. Rinse. Repeat. Reward.
  4. Tanksgiving was a smashing (pun intended) success! We had a full team to start and a few add ins as we worked our way through some Preatorian AVs.

    Thanks to:

    Ziggy Booker
    Shadow Ravenwolf
    Great Ngranek
    Frost Maide
God of Lightning (Keeper of AV aggro)
    Sera Nevose
    Kat Highwind
    Aggression
    Hardsuit

for participating. It was a Tanksgiving to remember!
  5. I never questioned how anyone "rolls" I merely stated that I understood steamrolling.

Funny, my fire/kins team build doesn't have fighting either, took three in leadership, has flight and I wouldn't call it a tight build at all......now fire/storm....that's a tight one.

Guess we're just looking at different definitions of tight.

And not to worry, I didn't take it as personal, that's why I was asking.

  8. If you've ever run with my crew you'd know we understand the concept of steamrolling.

I'd still argue that with a well balanced team (even a rolling team) tough/weave or min/maxing def or stacking resists on a fire/kin isn't really that necessary. It's nice but not vital.

Edit- I'm not sure if the "your playstyle" was intended to be generic or me particularly, but I'm not referring to a personal playstyle. My posts are talking about controllers in general. [further edit for clarity] In other words I have some controller builds that play very aggressive like my fire/kin's farm build or some that play passive like my earth/TA and all points in between, including my fire/kins team build. All I'm saying is that you (generic you) can't make blanket statements that fire/kins shouldn't take flight and/or they really need the fighting pool, because they don't.

Additionally, cinders is pbaoe, so it starts making sense to work the tough/weave route, although my fire/kin isn't built that way. The modern game of slotting also encourages def and recharge bonus builds, so +def is one of the primary routes to a build that can close in well, since you can slot the LotG +7.5 and other sets. Of course then hasten is a must, and combat jump is low end use defense as well.

Again, it's not just farming builds that have a philosophy of putting out big damage on Fire/kins. The best mez is a defeated mob, if you want to look at it from a control point of view. Add SB/ID and free powers/slots aren't as easy to get.

Edit: if you have the 60 month vet power, taking flight in lieu of SS or SJ would work, but still allow CJ and hasten to be taken as well.
Again, slight disagreement here. There are plenty of controller powers that are pbaoe but that in no way means you should or have to go tough/weave. In a teaming build, especially one that teams with a good tank tough/weave is pretty inconsequential. Now I won't argue the point if we're talking a solo build, but I'd still argue in those circumstances good control IS your resistance/defense.

Also, the best control is a dead enemy means that every AT should play like a blaster and to heck with other means of playing. When talking about controllers in general I shy away from those statements. Now just talking about fire/kins, ok I can see the point, but a fire/kin doesn't have to play like a scrapper/blaster etc. They can play pure support (and quite well, I'd add) and be just as good as any other controller combo.

Still it can be done, but as many of the other posters have pointed out, there is a lot of synergy between non flight powers and fire/kins.
I'm not so sure I agree 100% with this post. (a slight nitpick)

Farm builds with the fighting pool can be tight, but to be quite honest a standard build can easily fit two powers from a travel pool and three from fitness quite easy and still have room for a pool. Unless you are going for some softcapping or resistance stacking I really don't find basic pve fire/kin too tight.

  12. Shadow, that sounded like add-in or will you be able to make the initial run?
  13. You celebrate Tanksgiving though don't you?

  14. Yes, it's time to revive that old Guardian holiday tradition, in celebration of meat shields on the one day we celebrate various cooked meats: Tanksgiving!

This one can be a tough one to put together because some people have T'giving Day early and others later. Add in the various timezones and it can be a logistical nightmare. So we'll try to aim for middle of the day-ish.

Like our last Tanksgiving we'll be running PI arcs so our little tanklet friends can join in. Sign ups will be a little different since it's not a TF and due to peoples schedules. We'll have the initial team sign up for 3 Central, then we'll have a "late add in" list for those people who can't be on at that time. I just ask that in the spirit of the holiday season that people will allow people to cycle into their spots so as many people as possible can enjoy the event. If the team isn't full and no signees are on we'll also be broadcasting for tanks in Guardian and Level 50 chat. If we have enough for multiple teams then it will be the best Tanksgiving Day EVER!!!!

When: Thursday Nov. 26 (Tanksgiving Day) @ 3:00 pm CST (4 EST, 3 CST, 2 MST, 1 PST)
    Where: Portal Corp Courtyard
How Long: We'll be going for a few hours, or until the fun stops or the Tryptophan kicks in.
    Who: Tanks and tanks alone!

    1. Mental (I Want A Pony lvl 50 WP/Mace)
    2. MD (low level stoner)
    3. Ziggy Booker SS/Inv
    4. PsyGuard stone/stone
    5. Shadow Ravenwolf Fire/Ice/Pyre
    6. La- Kat Highwind
    7. Pittsburg
    8.

Late add ins (Please give a rough estimate on what time... we'll be going from 3-6ish CST)

    1. SinnerSaint
    2. AM- PrimeGirl
    3.
    4.
    5.
    6.

And even if you can only be on a few minutes, go ahead and join us for a Happy Tanksgiving!
  15. Don't look at your contribution in terms of damage, look at your contribution in team safety and damage mitigated.
  16. Welcome to the world of controllers, although it seems you already have a lvl 50 controller so I'd assume you know a touch about control now, but I'll add my two cents.

Fire/kins are not uber out of the box, like most controllers....as I hope you already know. You won't really feel "powerful" until you get imps and quite honestly the build doesn't mature into de uberhouse (I just made that up) until you get something aoe-ish from your epic pools.

Fire/kins are powerful for a few reasons:

    1. Containment damage boosted even higher by Fulcrum Shift.
    2. Easy containment set up by fire cages + flash fire
    3. Energizer bunny-ness by transference and siphon speed (you don't run out of end and stuff recharges quickly...add hasten and Weeeeeeeeeee!)
    4. Pbaoe damage of hotfeet + aoe epic damage and three crazy fire monkeys makes mincemeat from most baddies. (see 1. and 2.)

It is the classic farming build of the controller set. Chances are people seemed disappointed you weren't a fire/kin either because 1. they wanted to farm or 2. They've seen them clearing farm maps and assume they are the be all end all of team controllers and don't know any better.

The truth is any controller should be welcomed in any teaming situation. They are considered a "support" class and most builds are very powerful at support through damage mitigation from their primary and buffing and/or debuffing from their secondary. Some step outside of the support world (while still being very good at support) and can serve as the teams damage dealer and/or meleer/tanker. Depends on the build/playstyle/slottings/skill/etc. Fire/kin has the flexibility to be many different things, team support, farmer, or damage dealer. No particular style is better than the other, just better in the situation they are built.

The beauty of the controller is that they can serve as the team general, overseeing the battlefield and controlling (pun slightly intended) the pace and outcome of an encounter. It also seems to be one of the ATs that eventually attracts a lot of veteran, skilled and well thought out players. Enjoy.
  17. I can't think of the last time my fire/kin was kb/kd and she only has Mag4 kb protection and she stays in melee.
