Just look at your server list. Justice and Infinity seem to be vying for those positions rather frequently, IIRC.

There are a very small number of exceptions to this, but compared to many other MMOs it's a huge difference.
Dear $deity, you have no idea how much I happen to love this game JUST for that, too.

When I tried CO? "Rescue whatsisface the speedster!" OK. I'll join the line of people also rescuing him. Both boring and immersion breaking.

Aion? "Defeat so-and-so who's guarding the vortex!" OK. I just have to wait for him to respawn, since that Gladiator just defeated him... It really breaks me out of a game world to have to wait on a timer to get "the one" big bad guy... again... after watching another line of people do the same thing.
  3. I'm trying to figure out how the global handle would do *anything* between my (150 or so) characters, who occupy both hero and villainside.

The closest I have to this, actually, is one character I remade on another server - where I do have another version of my namesake. RP-wise, the first character has a sense of deja vu (from the "other" server,) but it's not returned, and neither of them knows why the first character would in any way think they knew the second.

It's interesting to write, but that's very much a corner case for me.

    Server questions

Solely PVP? Freedom. It's probably the only reason I'd go there. And since I'm considering moving people *off* of there, well...

Otherwise, my advice would be to wander down to the server specific forums, poke around a bit, and see when various events are. Most servers have scheduled raids, TF groups and the like in my experience. If something looks interesting... ask there.
  6. Transfer? Bah. You've got a good ... probably 60% chance of me already having a Kheld on any specific server. Some lowbies, some higher, but there's likely one there.
  7. None of them. (And playing on all the NA servers, I can say... none of them.)

Personaly, I avoid Freedom, barring a friend wanting help there. *shrug*

    heh.

Though mine was more a "Think of the mechanics of it" instead of "What possible reasoning would they have for offering such a thing?"

Victory is one of my main servers already. It and Pinnacle are where I'll be found a good 90% of the time. Most of my 50s are split between those two.

I've got several characters *everywhere.* 13 over there (not counting old fillers for a SG) over two accounts.

Your optimism is astounding. I bet we'll see at least 30 threads starting over it between now and the end of January, some percentage of which will say any redname post to that effect is actually a lie to keep "everyone" from moving to Freedom. (Me, I'm thinking about who I can move OFF of there.)
  14. Well, they should note that stuff stored in the supergroup base (not *on* your character) won't transfer - yes, it should be painfully obvious that that, and the sg itself, wont' transfer, but still.

Not an official one yet, but given there's already a "ZOMG they're doing it to decide which servers to merge!" bit of nonsense, I'm sure there will be.

Edit: And as I type that, the official mention of server transfers shows up.

That would be a great way to kill their subscription levels. "Hey, GR is coming out, let's get people to move servers, then kill the servers without mentioning it's coming beforehand! We don't need income, we've been around too long as it is!"

Need a redname in here to attempt to squelch the "They're going to close/merge servers" stuff.
  17. I'd like to request that everyone who says "I'm moving to freedom" sign something that forbids them from going "ZOMG I can't log in" and "OMG queues, NCSoft owes me!" during events/double XP/etc permanently afterward.

(Me, I'm considering who I can move *off* of there, and where to.)

    Fixed that for you.

You don't like it, you're not forced to use it, you don't lose a power choice or anything. But we did, indeed, ask for it for years.

    /this.

I happen to be playing two MMOs at the moment, this one and Aion. In Aion, pretty much *everything* happens outside. Hunting, missions are done outside, leveling's outside, travel's not that fast - yes, there are areas that seem very empty (see also desert... not deserted, but desert) but in general, everyone's in full view doing everything.

Here - before everyone got burned out on them - you'd get, say, a zombie or Rikti raid, and a good pile of people at (say) the top of the hill by the train in Talos... and when it's done, *poof,* everyone's off in their own instanced missions or whatnot.

It makes a difference in feel, yes.
  20. I think the OP is confusing pre-order with collectors edition goodies.

Preorder stays "exclusive" for a little bit, but since we don't (barring unethical stores) pay more for the preorder, NC/PS would have no problem giving them away to others later in some fashion (vet rewards, crafted pieces, earned via merits or what have you.) The only thing you need to get them, if history is a trend, is patience. And this is fine with me.

Collector's Edition stuff will stay "exclusive," since people *do* pay extra for it. Now, they may charge for others to get it - which, again, is fine with me - but that won't be given away.

    Basically... don't sweat preorder stuff.

Mostly for the "no status protection toggles by default," nothing against corruptors (working on getting one of mine to 50, as it is - only base redside class I don't have there, which is surprising since I have so many defenders at 50.)

I was completely behind the Dev's vision of PvP back in the day, and I was all in favor of and suggested many of the changes that happened (not that they changed because of that, just saying I agreed).

On one hand, I like the idea of there being something to do in a PvP zone besides PvP. I dislike the idea of entering a zone for no reason other than to beat up players. I think the critters and objectives in PvP zones offer some cool potential tactics and strategy, and there is always the Arena if you just want to go toe to toe with someone. In some ways, I think the zones NEED the other missions and raidish elements. If nothing else, it gives you something to do when you go into a PvP zone and there aren't any players there.

But at the same time I think these things confuse the issue, creating this whole false sense of PvE entitlement. "Since there is an objective in the zone that I could possibly accomplish without PvP, it is obviously my Dev-given right to be able to accomplish it without PvP, and any PvPer should psychically sense this and is just being a meany head if they attack me."

I don't know of an easy solution, but in hindsight, it seems implementing the Shivans (as an example) as they are was a mistake.

Maybe the zones need to be redone with objectives that actively require PvP, as in defeating other players. That would cut the PvEers out entirely, which is a wash, but it might also at least help clue in the Borderline players to the proper mind set. To accomplish their mission, they need to hunt down and defeat another player, not a critter.
    I somewhat agree...

Then again, if it's something like my post in response to Dispari (to unlock the firebase, you must defeat a player for the key) a ways back, I'd think we'd be putting up another barrier to entry (or, alternatively, another reason to farm - I think eco pointed that one out) for some characters. My Earth/FF is... well, essentially useless in a PVP zone. Holds? Nobody's affected. Buffs are hit with diminishing returns. Damage? What damage? Short of finding an AFK corruptor, that character just can't realistically be expected to defeat another player. That character, as I recall, takes a while to defeat a *firebase* - having to do the "wear down, kill a turret, wait to respawn and kill everything" method or she runs out of time.

There's some feeling lingering here and there that if you're not a FOTM, you shouldn't bother in the zones at all. For the *most* part, that's not true (and, of course, teaming helps,) but I think something like that would swing things the other way, making it more true - again, another barrier to entry.

While it doesn't help with the copy/paste, you can always try this planner instead. (Suckerpunch's. Also on the titan network.)

And enjoy the mind/fire. It's one of the most fun characters I think I've ever played... just need to get that last few levels in on mine (44 right now. Bumped up my difficulty at level... oh, 3 or so, and never looked back.)
  24. <qr>
    Personally...

My first brute was EM/EA. Old animations, old PVP rules. I didn't try to "tank" with her, I played "heavy scrapper" (or maybe "heavy stalker") with her, and it worked out nicely. In the zones, I heard over broadcast several times things to the effect of "Look out for Feliney Assault, her stuns are brutal" - because not only did EM stun, but I'd slotted for duration as well. For what little bit that character was known, that was what she was known for.

PVP rule change - forget the stuns. *shrug*

I also remade my Fire/SS tanker (who still exists, namesake, level 50) into a Fire/EM because I knew fire, I'd gotten EM to 50 on the brute, I wanted to see how they played together. Even pre-animation change... it just didn't "feel" like it fit well as a tanker set (at least not with fire.) If I decided to go "heavy scrapper," perhaps, but... eh. That's not why I rolled that tank. (41 currently.)

As it sits now, I'm sorely unimpressed with it as a tanker set. But that's not numbers and time, just on feel and interaction with Fire/.
