  1. ...and I mean horribly laggy...10-12 seconds between button click and reaction.

I created a mish using Croatoa map 01 which allows for 41 objects.

    On it are the following:

36 Boss fights. All are from the same custom group. All of the Lts and minions attending to the Bosses are also from this custom group.

    2: Release Captive
    1: Destructible Object
    39 total

I ran the map with two full teams and it went reasonably well - 10 ratings avg 4 stars.

I then added a non-required AV fight - the AV is from one Custom Group and the minions surrounding the AV (which appear only around the AV) are from a 3rd custom group.

Once I added this fight is when the crazy lag started but I've only encountered it when running full teams. Twice I've run it with full teams and twice I've had to ask the team to exit and we moved on because the lag was unplayable.

When I run it by myself or with a smaller team I don't get the lag.

So - does the presence of more than one custom group cause this type of problem?

Or do I just scale down the total number of encounters on the map?

Or is there something else that I may be doing wrong?

N.B.: Since I've posted this I removed the AV fight but I haven't been back on to re-test it.
  2. There's some really good information in this thread so I won't even try to add to the hard data.

But I love my Plant / Storm enough to jump in and add my support for the build. It has fantastic synergy and is very fun to play.

    You will not be disappointed.

Others I know like Plant /Kin to improve recharge for the Creepers but my personal choice would be to stick with /Storm which gives you a great deal of balance, some decent damage, and as noted exhaustively above provides fun combos and synergy.
  3. The error pops up in a dialog box when I attempt to Save and Test.

I can save or save as with no issues.

I can't click on the error in orange text in the upper right because that field shows "No Errors". So there's no indication w/ regard to which field is giving me the problem.

Am I going to have to go thru ever name field in the arc and re-type it?
  4. Not sure how to clear the error code captioned in the Subject line.

No error shows in the upper right near the exclamation point icon.

Note that the subject line is verbatim - spelling and grammar errors 'n all - how the error appears when I attempt to Exit and Test my arc.

"The field Name containd improperly formated HTML.

I got this error in mish 4 of my arc when I attempted to Exit and Save.

I had saved and tested the three earlier missions so I don't believe that they are part of the problem.

I exited and re-started the client but still had the error.

The only names fields I see are the Custom Char Name fields. All of the custom chars have saved and tested in the past.

I've gone back and eiliminated the three most recent pieces of the mish and attempted to test but I continue to get the same error message.

    Any idea what this is?
  5. So..that worked.

I'm currently adding this to my long list of "there are no stupid questions...only stupid people" posts
  6. So no text bubbles over the heads?

    Sonofa...

Gonna go see if that works.
  7. I posted on this a few days ago. Sorry for the repeat but my original post was rather vague.

I hope that someone can help me with the following problem:

None of the dialog text that is to be spoken by the various NPCs appears in my arcs.

So for example - on the Mission Details screen There are several sub-fields in the BOSS TEXT section e.g.: Boss Unaware Dialog, Boss 1/2 Hetlah, etc.

When I come near the boss he is in his correct Starting Animation as is the group surrounding him. The mission otherwise plays as anticipated but the Dialog text just isn't showing up.

None of script that I have typed into any of these files or any of the other fields like them for patrols, allies, etc are actually spoken by the NPCs in-game.

I deleted my initial arc and started over but am having the same problem. Therefore it's likely just a very odd bug or (perhaps more likely) something that I should be doing differently.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Marsh
  8. I put a refernce to [censored] Sapiens in one omy arcs' text and the filter advised that it was profane.

But if [censored] Sapiens is profane...then aren't we all profane? Isn't, then, the profanity filter an indictment of the totality of humankind, human culture, and human accomplishment ?!?

ETA:::: Aaaah! It was blocked here, too. This is craziness.
  9. I'm back at a computer w/ Cox installed so I can be more specific about the issue I'm having:

The NPCs in my Arc aren't saying anything.

Specifically - the text entered in the following fields and all fields like them in the Misison Settings screen fails to appear in the game.

All sub-fields of Boss Text. Patrol Dialog, Ambush dialog, Release Captive dialog.

How can I get my guys talking?

ETA: Other than the above - it plays just fine. Everything happens when it's supposed to. There are no errors showing.
  10. Exactly.

Sorry I'm not being precise but I'm not at a comp where I can see the field titles.

There are instances of text that are triggered when the players come near a boss, a captive, an ally, etc. Also for patrols, ambushes, etc.

    So..

    Players approach::

Ally: You know my friends will come for me.

Captor: If they do then they're going to have a quick and violent end to a really bad day.

    Stuff like that.

Other text when the boss is damaged and then when he's at 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 health.

Also - the messages the pop up when interacting with an object.

    None of that is working.

It's as if I'm in a generic mission with the text bubbles turned off. Without the in-mish char text it's very difficult to differentiate a MA mish from something that we've all played thousands of time.

So with pre-apologies for inaccurate use of terminology:

Is there something I can do other than wait to get the various pieces of interactive text to become functional?
  11. Nothing that I have typed in the various fields e.g.: Patrol text, Ally text, Boss text is appearing when I test my missions.
  12. ...nor is Ally text, patrol text or any other text.

Kinda hard to tell a story while muzzled. Is there a setting I'm missing?

In short - none of the in-mission text is working in my Arc.

    Thanks,

    Marsh
  13. I've been following this guide for some time.

Like you I enjoy mixing things up a bit. So far the limit of that has been basking in my own bemusement when my Sonic / Nrg blapper runs in to melee range and bad guys start flying out of melee range at high speed.

Choruses of "are you a noob?", "blasters should be in the back!" resound and are music to my ears. As are the conversations I have with those players who "get it".

So this looks like a fun diversion.

I'd likely be more inclined to go with the Dark Epic but if I get this off the ground I'll certainly keep your words in mind as they represent more experience than do mine.

I have a 50 DDDD and I miss having that "whammo" damage but I just love how the pieces mesh together. And this char will have less damage avail than my middle build offender/defender DDDD who has most of his blasts.

I'll likely have a clearer course for Elec v Dark Epic if I get the char to 41.

Thanks for your work on this thread.
  14. Thanks for your hard work on this Guide.

I built a character based on this guide many months ago.

I quickly levelled him to 22ish following the guide pretty closely. I have since re-specced him out to better fit my play style - most notably I got Stamina earlier - and I still love him.

I likely would not have begun this character w/o having read this guide so thanks again. You have contributed to many hours of SMASHING for me and I'm sure for other players.
  15. Absolutely the most precise and well-ordered guide I've read. Thank you very much for your time investment. It will help many others down the road.
