The event was a free for all, max level 5 I think. Being a number cruncher, I looked across all the ATs and power sets to figure out the most effective character possible at that level. I did a little brainstorming to figure out how the free for all would go, how long people would live, whether or not AoEs would be worthwhile, how fast people would be moving, etc. There were a lot of things to take into account, but I eventually ended up with an Arch/MM Blaster named Wabbit Season. Arch has a bonus to Accuracy which is great for low level PvP. My attack chain was Snap Shot, Aimed Shot, Snap Shot, Subdual, repeat. They all have an 80 foot range, so I could attack anyone getting near me. No one had status protection, so the Immob in Subdual prevented melee types from attacking me at all. Blasters can use their low level attacks while mezzed, and that's all I used. In any mob I targeted people low in HP, and I usually finished them off. I went after squishies rather than melee types who may have had minor Resistance or Defense.

The thing that put me over the top was loading up with +3 SOs. I got them by farming an AV. I think it was a level 47 AV farmed by a level 50 char with level 10 sidekicks to get the level 8 SOs, or something like that. I only had a total of 7 slots to play with, one in each of the 3 powers plus 4 for leveling up, but you can do a lot with that. I think the Arch attacks both had a Recharge SO, so my attack chain was constant. Most Blasters that level are lucky to attack 50% of the time. All attacks had an Accuracy SO, so I was far more accurate than most of the other people involved. Your average person with a single Accuracy TO had a 54% chance to hit, while my Archery attacks were 80%. And I think I had a couple Damage SOs as well in Snap Shot because I used it most often. I was doing around 3 times as much damage as a TO slotted Energy/Energy Blaster. Death is Nature's way of refilling your END bar, so no need for END reduction. I didn't avoid death because I needed the END. I ate dirt just like any other Blaster when people teamed up on me. But I gave far, far more than I received. I played the same build on serveral servers, using a Respec to remove the SOs when done and the Market to transfer them.

The end result was that I came out on top, often by a whole lot. Enough that people accused me of bringing in friends to be my targets, or using Inspirations (which were against the rules). But the truth is that the right powers, Enhancements, and tactics can make a HUGE difference at low levels.

So yes, low level SOs can be VERY effective. But as others have said, they are usually outleveled and discarded very fast.
OMG!!! I remember this! You ate faces It was so frustratingly fun to see you win (and by so much!). This was actually hosted by PvPEC.

Well what I meant was... previously, if someone was just sitting there not doing anthing, you could place them on their own team, so that no one else would be affected by the behavior. I think the change is a very good one as well. Makes trying to balance teams a whole lot easier. And no more worries about how many from each team go to the spawn point for BAF lol.

Though I still assume that if someone does nothing personally for an entire trial they will get table 5 (10 threads or insps). Which is fine with me.

This is good news. I'm not as concerned about the way it currently works as I was when BAF and Lambda first came out, but, this is still a welcome fix.
Awww... now certain people cannot get mad at others for team stacking!!!

JK!!! Very welcome change! Although, in a way it does enable leechers a little more.
  8. Hi Team! Really excited to practice with you and also to come up with a new name :P

Please do your best to make it on Wednesday at 9pm est. And also on Friday (before Boot camp) at 8:30pm est. We'll try to get a team schedule down to figure out when would be the best time for us to meet for practices. Thanks!!!
  9. Thanks to all for the positive feedback! I really did have fun watching everyone go and hearing about their runs (and then doing one run at 9:30 myself). It is a challenge! Everyone who participated, whether they finished or not, should be really proud of themselves for just trying.

Since so many teams competed, I will (as promised) host the event again in August, this time with NO temps! Not sure if I will go with ITF or try something else. I am looking forward to it!

Over 25. I think it was actually 29. I know one team did not finish () and 3 teams did not send in screen shots because they ran multiple times and only sent in their best one.

  12. The race is now officially over. Some teams may still be finishing up. They have until 11pm est to send in a screen shot.
  13. We are 2.5 hours in!!! People are having lots of fun and there are some very impressive times being submitted!
  14. Okay this is today!!!!!!

Some finals things (people have been asking me in tells):

    Q. Do difficulty settings matter?
    A. Set to anything you want, as long as you make sure when you start the TF you have PERC Reps on your team and you set a timer and a death counter.

    Q. What if the PERC Reps do not quit the team fast enough?
    A. The team leader will be responsible for "kicking" PERC Reps off the team. This will ensure fairness across all teams.

    Q. Can I start early?
    A. Sorry, but no. In order to ensure fairness, all teams must run within the given window. You may run as many times as you want to (and are able to) inside the window. That is why we made it a large (4.5 hour) window.
  15. Reminder, no Hami tomorrow as it is a Holiday weekend. Theme for the following week is: Dress as your favorite (well known) cartoon character!

Also, please feel free to run the Iron-Man ITF Race!!!!

Hey all, I have some details about some of the powers changes for I20 Incarnates Ascend which were "below the fold" of the main announcement:

Along with Incarnates Ascend we are introducing a means for players to flag themselves as whether or not they want to be movement-affected by some of the click buffs which can be cast by others on them (like Speed Boost). The rest of the power will take effect, but the movement-affecting (run, jump, flight) part will be ignored if you so desire. This is going to affect Speed Boost, Increase Density, Inertial Reduction, Enforced Morale, and Accelerate Metabolism (based on my current list).

The same means will allow players to set a preference for Mystic Fortune to Always Ask, Always Accept or Always Deny.

The endurance cost for Mastermind upgrade powers is also being decreased to fit more in line with these changes.

Lastly, there is a subtlety to the Increase Density conversion to an AOE buff which the summary didn’t quite capture. The damage resistance component of the power is being made AOE-affecting, but the status effect protection component is going to still be single-target. The single target click powers which give status effect protection such as Clear Mind were not going to be made AOE wide (for balance purposes), but Increase Density having both facets makes it unique in this case. We are trying to split that difference with our approach.

As always, thank you for your feedback and concerns.

Your bud in the high-powered armor,
    Black Scorpion
    Black Scorpion wins!

Pets have a 15 minute timer. You cannot slot a new one while the other is recharging. Once the first is recharged, you could swap to the 2nd. Sorry, there will be no "gaming the system" here.

PS- LOVE the idea of using my empyrean merits to buy threads for other characters on my account. I have some characters that I love, but I do not love taking them on trials, this will be their answer!

Nerdrage is ALWAYS strong on day 1. I think after it goes live it will die down.

Buffs and debuffs in the game are functionally the same thing (debuffs are negative buffs), so any kind of "cancel buff" option has problems because it would also allow us to cancel debuffs. This is why we do not have this request implemented yet - the arguments against run speed and SB go back to day 1 of the game. It would be great if we had options, but they certainly aren't simple and may not be possible. For example, if we were able to check "ignore all buffs," it's possible this would also prevent debuffs from affecting us.
What if they flagged it only to not receive buffs from teammates? Then the debuff thing would only be an issue when people are confused (which to me is really a nonissue). Or maybe they could somehow put in a speed cap that people could set (like default is max or you could set it so you'd never go over say 50mps?).
  19. SB is imho one of the best buffs in the game. It is increased recharge, increased endurance, and some speed (it will not put you at travel cap though unless it's slotted for run).

People who complain about SB have either:

    A. a very low functioning computer

    OR

    B. very poor movement skills

    OR

    C. are the type of people who would complain about getting free money

If A. sorry, I feel for you (I've been there), but you can still make it work!
If B. you cannot learn to get better if you don't try and practice.
If C. seriously people, you don't ALWAYS need to find something to complain about, just be happy.

A simple fix would be to grant either a "Do not accept any buffs" button (similar to do not accept items) OR allow buffs to be deletable (such as the powers from safeguards and mayhems are deletable). People have roles in a team, I am annoyed when a kin or any other character does not fulfill their role. Anyone who is going to get seriously outraged at someone else correctly playing their character is probably better off soloing.
