Quote:You can lay mines while Phase Shifted?! Really?! Awesome. Now I gotta work it in on my Trapper.I've a DP/Devices Blaster. I like to sneak up and drop some trip mines in a mob of enemies. I also drop some timed mines, careful to make sure both go off at the same time. I use Stealth & Phase Shift. The PS is just in case they see me, they can't do a thing. At which point I unphase and let the trip mine blow up just as I unleash Hail of Bullets.

Quote:It does indeed sound like so far you are doing what is optimal for the team, and kudos to you for your fine instincts, but most don't seem to have as finely tuned instincts.I have found that trying to figure out how to optimally "integrate" with a team is less important than knowing how to just play your own AT (and power sets). Worry less about what everyone else is doing and just concentrate on doing what is smartest given what your character can do and the situation.
For example, I am currently leveling an Ice/Storm controller. In most of the teams I end up on, the general strategy seems to be aggro the next mob (or two if the team is cocky) and just try to kill everything before dying. Hell, most teams don't even bother to rest up a little between fights and just dive into the next one while at half endurance (or worse). Well that's all find and dandy, I suppose, but trying to adjust your own play to "fit" within such an uncoordinated free-for-all style of team play is almost pointless. Consequently, I find that I am much more successful if I just do what I know is best for the situation, regardless of the particular wackamole actions of my teammates.
So, I lay down Ice Slick whenever it cycles back. I con for the Boss (or whomever has the most hit points and will last the longest) and put Snow Storm on him. I then try to stand where the action is with my -SPD toggles on, fire off my AoE immobs/slows, and generally try to just keep the enemy mobs from attacking as often as possible. I doubt the rest of the team has much appreciation for what I am doing or that the main reason they aren't getting attacked very often is because of all the annoying mist/snow/ice/fog all over the place, but it doesn't matter. I'm doing my job and my teammates are living longer because of it. That's what a support toon does, after all.
So, I'm going to sorta disagree with your conclusion, and to try and illustrate.......
Hurricane, how often do you use it? Which ATs do you cover with it? Lightning Storm, how often? Gale? Etc. Storm is a particularly good example of my point. If your team has a lot of patch/aoe attacks, you'll probably avoid or at least use much more situationally powers like Tornado, Gale, Hurricane, and, Lightning Storm. If it's an all squishie team, you can stand in the center of your team mostly with hurricane on, and most will love ya. If you try that same tactic with an all melee team (other than you) you'll not get quite the same response, I'll wager.
And if I'm the blaster teaming with you, it would be smart to realize that you have a potent AOE -res debuff, and I should probably wait to drop my nuke till after you drop Freezing Rain instead of trying to get the nuke off first.
Yes, frequently, your team mates won't give you the same consideration. Or perhaps they aren't skilled enough to even think about what they need to do, and what their team mates need to do yet. Or they may just not be familiar with their team mates powers and how they work.
And yes, a lot of the time what's best for you solo *is* what's best for the team. But not always.
And lastly, if the team is steamrolling, then it's rarely an issue, quite true. The ability to react to what's best for your team as well as you really only makes critical issue in the tough fights. But those are always the situations where skill will make the difference.
And, all of the above is only my personal experience, so take of it what you will. -

Quote:I don't mean this to be mean or unpleasant. I honestly mean this as an attempted analysis as to why you get the weird responses you do. I think it comes down to, what an editor might call, an enthusiastic usage of the exclamation point (and at times, of the question mark, too, but I don't think that's where the confusion lies). We can't hear tone of voice well via this medium, but the exclamation mark immediately makes one a degree or two more likely to consider the post to be intended to be read as a shout..Look, people, the reason that I mostly only post what seems to be rants, is because I usually only have something to rant about, or else when I try to sometimes post a thread with a simple request for help, which I have, in the past? Somehow, it comes out sounding like a rant, and, sometimes I am just plain confused about things! Please understand, that I am trying to do my best, but, I am only a casual gamer?

Quote:From the City of Heroes Freedom and Issue 21: Convergence Head Start Known Issues post by Avatea:
Paragon Market - Existing Account Items
Items that a player has previously acquired prior to the launch of City of Heroes Freedom will show up in the Paragon Market without a buy button.
Unfortunately, I think that's the point the OP is making. Not only are items owned showing up, but they have a 'Purchase' button.
Edit: Jasra beat me to it. -

I say bring 'em back, and make an announcement that if you don't want the info to be known, to go Control Panel > Edit Your Details, and in the second section, either click the Clear button to remove Date Of Birth, or set it to one of the 4 display options.
Ta-da! Privacy Issue resolved! -
Quote:Other than possibly consolidating multiple stickies into one to or related into stickies, I have no real suggestions to offer to help with the forum bloat. Perhaps consolidate some of the little used categories. One favor,
Let's not allow this conversation to solely revolve around possibly consolidating AT forums.
We would like to see other suggestions for simplifying the current forum structure.
But, I can say, I'd be against merging the the ATs into roles. It won't cut down on the volume of information within, just make fewer headings, thus making things harder to find, while lending some semblance of official sanction to one play style for a given AT (and thus also giving some semblance of official discouragement to other styles). -
I know it's not the exact some issue as the OP had, but it seemed close enough to post here, as it is a Mids question, too...
Some of my old builds pull up well enough, and show the IO assignments, but Mids doesn't seem to be calculating the totals any more. Specifically, some powers, when I mouse over them, show something like the following:
Buff/Debuff Value
Accuracy:
Damage: 83.74% (Pre-ED: 85.26%)
EnduranceDiscount:
Range:
Recharge:
In the above example, I have 5 of the 6 Posi Blasts in place, so obviously some of the values other than damage should have some modifiers.
Is there a new switch or toggle I should be aware of? -
Quote:I was on the beta some, but not extensively. I play on Justice a lot, and have had no problems whatsoever. As of only 40 minutes ago all my Justice alts were unlocked. I don't know if this means it's only you having this issue, or what else that tells you, but, it isn't a universal Beta--->Justice problem....anyone involved heavily in the beta test when they switched us all to premium/free players partway through ever log onto Justice and check their characters on live?
...because all of my characters are locked ONLY on the Justice server, and I am a VIP, been a VIP for nearly 7 yrs.
During beta it kept calling itself Justice so I figured they just copied the Justice server data at some point, but now all my characters are locked only on that server on live.
WEIRD.
Either way, hope you get it cleared up, and post the verdict here when you do, as I"m curious now.. -
Quote:OK. Good to know the bruising not being listed is normal. Although, most other ATs have their inherent abilities also spelled out in the individual powers (scrappers crits, controllers containment, tanks auto taunt, blasters damage bonus, etc), but *shrugs* oh well, whatever...Yeah the fiery embrace thing I found odd, but bruising is not listed on any tier 1 attack, because it is listed and described in your inherent power Gauntlet.
But the fiery embrace is just plain weird... Is the fiery embrace effect now listed for every tank secondary powerset, just in case of FA as the primary, or is it only MA that gets this special treatment? -
OK..
I'm playing a SR/MA tank, yet under the detailed info for me MA powers it keeps mentioning extra fire damage from fiery embrace.. What the!? Why is that there?
Also, I don't see info on bruising for the tier 1 attack? Isn't that usually listed? It is the tier one that always has the bruising, correct?
Anyone know what is going on here? -

There are about 3-50 ways to accomplish any given goal or defeat a given enemy. Different ATs and different powers find other strategies easier or harder, depending. You most often don't need 'X' AT or power on the team but you may need to adjust your strategy.
If you enjoy alting, trying a big variety, as that's the best way I've found to know the other AT/powersets strength/weaknesses. Knowing how to play your character is nice, of course, but knowing how to play with your team mates ATs and powersets is a huge boost in performance, too. -
Is scheduled for 6 hours, with patch notes, as usual, only available after...
But since I like to speculate, should we assume this is Freedom going completely live? In other words, will Premium and Free accounts be active tomorrow? -
Update: The server status page shows the EU servers as still being down, but I just have logged on to Union successfully.

Quote:Sadly, that's not how it works, in my experience. I *should* have heard the warning bells, when they said they'd be giving us goodies for staying through the transition, but I didn't. I sometimes forget that my fun game world is housed in someone's work servers out there. I tend to think of it as a game, not as a work environment. But it is. And transition can mean a lot of changes at once. In an ideal scenario, things can be done to minimize interruptions. Things are seldom ideal. When things fail to be ideal, you respond as quickly, and promptly as you can.This. If they knew it was going to be a number of extended downtimes for server upgrades and could provide a schedule so people could do a bit of planning around that. I do not think that would be too much to ask.
If they did not know ahead of time, then I would be more than a little worried about the whole operations, not just which time zone would be most affected.
Emergencies can happen of course, but more than once or twice in a relatively short period of time is cause for concern.
They *could* have explicitly stated that things could go wrong a lot over the next few months, but that's not really a stellar idea from a business point of view, either. If things are as I suspect they are, they hoped for the best, and hoped we'd never notice the transition. It didn't, we did. But they did specifically already offer us a reward above what they were obligated to so we'd stick through the transition.
I'm sure we all wish it had gone better, but it didn't. -
Quote:It seems it's not all a Nemesis plot.I was quite amused by the circumstances of my mapserver d/c actually - I was doing a carnie tip mission, defeated everyone, and was JUST clicking the last glowie...when the dreaded Mapserver message popped up.
Classic carnie timing and sense of humour there! lol
It's a Carnie plot.
I was in a Carnie tip mish, too, and had just dispatched the last group and was about to lead the 3rd hostage out, when I got that same dreaded message... -
As I pointed out earlier, you were given at least 400, maybe more, above your contracted amount. If 110 is fair for the inconvenience, can I have the rest of yours?
Edit: Yes, I know, I'm not returning mine either, so I admit, that was a bit of a jab. Meant to illustrate a point I made earlier, not intended for maliciousness. -
Quote:if you dont like the idea that people express their disappointment I say to bad. If your in business then you have to live with the unsatisfied customer base. The concerted effort of some in this thread to belittle and silence said complaints dont help the company. It creates more discontent. You can say i disagree that these issues are as important and leave it at that. Yet the moment you say complaining about the issues is stupid or childish or wrong you make no true point and just cement their point of view.
I didn't see anyone state that complaining was stupid and childish, let alone a concerted effort to belittle and silence complaints, but if so, then I agree with you. I believe that's counter-productive, too. I have said, I think more than once, that complaints about this issue are likely fruitless, and can potentially create more unhappiness. Which, if it is fruitless, is a net loss of Utils. Furthermore, it may also lead to complaints being tuned out by those that can do something about them. And that would be an even bigger loss of Utils. I can't prove them fruitless, though, and I admit that. I also said that even though I don't think it's a good idea, that I'd acknowledge your right to make a decision, even if it is counter-productive.
Hope that clears up my position. I speak for myself alone in this, others may or may not agree, but I can't address that. -
Quote:Even is you count the Terms of Service as a statute, and not as a contract, I don't believe the terms or service ever lays out a guaranteed right to complain about anything about the game and it's service and promises to never censure such complaints. And Rules of Conduct follow the same rules that 'counter' freedom of speech.
As long i stay within the rules of the forum, i am free to say whatever i want. I was not refering to the 'US law' (EU version is somewhat different though), but the generic freedom of speech on this forum, within the rules of the forum. -
I totally hear you. ANd I get all of it. I agree with how you feel, even. I'm from the EU too, although I do now live int he US, but I get the feeling. And my schedule is such that my peak time is the same as yours, not the US peak time.
I love your passion, and respect your opinions and desire to stick up for your fellow EU players. But passion can, when allowed, cause confrontations that are counter-productive. Having sat on both sides of issues very similar to this, I was just trying to play the role of hopefully calm moderator, even though, as a player with the same hours as you, obviously I have a vested interest identical to yours. I just think that we'll get as close to what we want most effectively by different means on this one.
So, no need to apologize as far as I'm concerned, and I hope you don't think any of what I said was meant as a criticism, just a differing POV.
As for the sneakiness, or the how and why of when they announce what they do, I honestly don't think they can win. If the announce ahead of time, they have the complaints (from some people, perhaps just a small, but nonetheless, vocal minority but they will be there) from whenever the announce it, up to shortly after the servers come back up. And they have unhappy people for that length of time. If the do it later, same results. Maybe more people in total, but for a much shorter period of time.
I think *if* everyone were calm and rational about things, the announcements in advance would be much better, and I like to think that they would do it under those circumstances. But we all know that that just isn't how it would happen. So they make the tough choice to give us less notice so as to reduce the angst and duration of unhappiness. Is it better? Not to me, personally, but I think it might be better as a whole. To close to call in my book.
Quote:In reply to @Madadh:
Your posts in reply to mine did i suppose have a valid point. I suppose in some instances we [as the EU] can be seen as "over sensitive" in that any small hiccup these days gets turned into a "why us?" thread. The only reason i can see this being is because of past experiences with this game and you are right, people telling us to stop complaining do pay their subs too and i shouldnt've stepped over the mark by telling them to stop telling us to.
So in that respect i will say sorry
Im just a passionate player who sticks up for my fellow EU players when i feel we are being treated poorly. I agree that i am perhaps too vocal about this ongoing situation but thats my downfall [one of many] and just feel strongly that these downtime situations could have been handled a lot better.
For example if we had even had a bit more notice at the start of the month saying that there will be multiple and long downtime to increase the server and hardware, then yes there would have been still "Are you kidding me!?" posts but a lot more people would have understood. To myself personally it feels a little "sneaky" that they have been posting these downtime notices VERY late in our night/early about the following morning.

"THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT"
Quote:I think everyone knows this isn't true. Or, it isn't for any company with more than 1 customer. If it were true, and 2 customers disagreed, the paradox would destroy the universe. All other arguments and topics aside, this is possibly the most untrue statement I noticed when browsing this thread. I cannot stress this enough!
Edited: To steal Ardrea's idea to add the original quote, at the top for clarity. -
Quote:Actually, no. And I've bolded the relevant section of my original post to address why that's insufficient. If you're referring to the US Bill of Rights 1st Amendment, or Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights they both do not cover forums that are private property on which those granted access agree to a moderators ability to censer, of which this is one.
All that having been said, I don't think you have an actual 'statutory right' to complain, in this specific forum. If you do, in fact, I'd be very curious to know the specific statute, and what body passed it. Can you please supply that information? Because I have, literally, got to see it, to believe it. -
Quote:I don't think anyone said that you weren't allowed to complain. If someone did, I missed it. People have asked for fewer complaints over things that will not change. I have tried to explain why in may in fact be counter productive, too. The poster you refered to was just trying to demonstrate the realtively minor nature over what you are complaining about. It's a game. I'd like to be playing it right now, too, but I can't either. But it really isn't worth getting lathered over. If I am no longer getting my moneys worth, I'll stop renewing my monthly sub fee. I'd advise you to make a similar value judgement.ppl who pay 4 a service are entitled to complain as part of their statutory rights plain and simple.
