Quote:For conversation, the original Captain America was a science based, chemically induced super hero, like the original flash.Alright, then let's do this using two of the more well known "natural" heroes.
Captain America (Steve Rogers version, thanks to Bucky's cybernetic arm, I might qualify him as more tech than natural) - His shield was created using an alloy process that was not repeatable, using two "science fictional" metals (vibranium and adamantium). When Steve needed to get around, he used either a motorcycle (modified by Starktech to exceed the specifications of a normal motorcycle) or used an Avengers Quinjet (also Starktech) or S.H.I.E.L.D. transportation (mostly "superspy" tech level). Captain America's equipment definitely crosses into the "tech" arena without hurting his status as a natural hero.
Batman (Bruce Wayne or Dick Grayson) - Waynetech is so far beyond what is natural that it isn't even funny. All of the Bat-vehicles certainly qualify as high tech, as does most of his gadgetry. Using his cape, he can glide, and when he needs to cross the globe instantly, he makes liberal use of the JLA teleporter. In the end, Batman isn't defined by his high tech equipment, he is defined by his rigorous training and brilliant mind, therefore, he is a natural hero.
If you really want to do it the way heroes in the comic books who don;t have travel powers do it, you need to have a teammate with Group Fly who can carry you while they use their travel power, otherwise, you cross into your own, forbidden, "high tech" area. -
Quote:Yeah I had thought of that, but was not the focus of this thought process. This issue has come up every once in a while over the years.
The short end of it nowadays is this: "Natural" as an origin covers a lot more than what most people think. Remember that Superman would, in this game, be considered a Natural origin. Any member of his species that comes to our planet develops the same abilities, yet he can fly. -
Quote:The problem though with high-tech devices you break into the tech field. I just feel that these two are so similar that you can't really have a natural hero that is as effective as any other origin.Use the power of your imagination.
Since you have already self limited by saying that your character would not use devices, even a swingline shooter is out of the question (vehicles would be out of the question, too, by the same limiting factor). Your only option is to take Swift and slot Sprint and Swift. Unfortunately, if you do the math, this will still greatly exceed the speed that a normal human can achieve, so even Sprint and Swift are unacceptable for a "natural" hero.
I have plenty of "natural" heroes who use the travel powers, thanks to the power of imagination.
Major A. Salt uses the city Mediport network to get around. U.S. Archer has an antigravity belt given to him by one of the many scientists he has rescued. The same internal energy that enables Lady Crane to punch out robots enables her to make astounding leaps. -
I find myself stuck in the concepts of creating a natural hero. One that does not have any devices or unusual powers from magic, mutation, chemicals, etc.
With Viechles already out of the current question, as of 2008 at least, what new powers can we comfortably use or create to fit this origin of a natural hero?
Or is it possible to start re-visiting the subject with further options to customizable the graphics of transportation powers option here and possibly expanding, and just re-work the graphics of a current transport powers.
Edit: It just seems odd that we have this entire category of hero that has no transportation power to fit it in the slightest.
So I am basically asking for ideas, what do you have to solve this problem? -
So are we talking about location/slot specific fat slides?
If that is true, count me! -
No, you miss-understand me on both ends. The devs apperently did try to make a character swapping teleportation option. This apperently could not reasonably done, which is fine. So the idea of having multiple character slots for the same concept isn't refined. So instead I thought up an option of having one slot act as about 4 different types. So you get around the current impossibility of the character switching a little.

Quote:Nether do you or they for that matter, and that is basically what je_saist was implying. Tit for tat. And if my mere text is so offensive why post at all? I can take a no perfectly fine. I knew when this idea was purposed the chances of it happening were close to nill, which is fine. I thought this might be a solution to the super complex character switch teleporting power the devs had contemplated, and hoped it might gain momentum. He posed a rhetorical question. A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question posed for its persuasive effect without the expectation of a reply.
Furthermore you don't get to decide who gets to post in a thread you start.
Edit: Fixed because Zek was right.
I am most perplexed with this community, as ideas get more, "never going to happen", than an "I like it" or "I don't like it".
Personally, if they do finally figure out a simple way to switch character locations I would be thrilled. As this would get me, mostly, the same effect I am looking for in my purposed addition to the system.
But meh, say la vi. -
Quote:He was theorizing on how my suggested system would work. I felt that was an inquiry for clarification. So I was simply trying to clarify. He didn't really ask a question. It looked mostly rhetorical, what with the following several paragraphs explaining why it doesn't work that followed. link

Quote:The idea is that once you get to levle 50, you get an option to THEN start leveling another power, or set of powers. While you are working with that power you ARE leveling all over again from 1-50, but with the option to take 30 minutes or more (so long as you are not in a mission map), and switch between your fully developed powers and the developing ones.If I'm reading this suggestion correctly, you're implying that you'd get one powerset combo to 50, then "dual-class" into another powerset combo and get THAT to 50, getting to choose between the two setups either in real time or via multiple builds. Am I getting warm?
Basically, that's not going to happen. Not even with those restrictions. I fully appreciate your problem, as this is a serious problem of mine (katana + guns + reflexes =), but think of it this way - that's kind of what Epics are for. Granted, if you're a villain, you're screwed, because villain Patrons suck for concept. But if you're a hero, you can very much make a character that uses Claws and Reflexes and still have access to Dark powers.
The only way you're going to see an option to retain your name, badges score stats is to implement the old "character reset" option, which would allow you to reroll a character, lose all levels, items and inf, but keep your cosmetic achievements. And I don't think that's what you want.
Once you are finished with your new ones, you can then interchange the powers via the same function, but with more freedom. Assuming you can only unlock one power at a time, not a set like I first stated in the OP here is an example.
Example: So if you have a tech stalker who is a Nin/Elc. You get those powers all the way to level 50. At this point you decide you want your alternate primary to be kinetic melee. You start working with this power back at level 1 and your secondary is still electric. You would be forced to chose your new primary set powers at the same level you chose your original primary set.
Once the Kin/Elc is finished at level 50, with a ton of dead levels 41-50, the stalker can start working on their new secondary power Eng. So they start back at level 1 and face the same restrictions as the new primary power, but would be forced to use only one primary with that power. When they reach level 41 at this point they can start working on their secondary patron power pool.
Once both new primary, secondary, and patron power pool are finished up to level 50 they may use the system for switching between completed and developed sets, to interchange the powers. So after 30+ minutes (actual time decided by the devs) they could interchange their new and old powers at will giving you more options, and greater character depth.
P.S. At then end point you could be playing ether a Kin/Elc, Nin/Elc, Kin/Eng, or Nin/Eng with ether of the patron sets as an option. -
Just because the Devs are not going to do it, does not mean it isn't a good idea. I don't like getting rough this early on to a new community but, you should be sticking to subject, as this has nothing to do with my thread, or I will report you for harassment and possibly stalking. This online community seems to be rather harsh compared to the others I have been on.

This may already have been made and yet to come out.
Item Set! Your powers come from an item instead of random hands etc.
You could have your magic powers coming from a staff, or a piece of clothing, like a amulet.
Your blaster powers could come from a held gun.
Pistols could come from the wrist or palm.
Rifles could come from an attached under-arm cannon.
It would be much more mutable. -
Sign me up for Rikti sets!
However the OP options are great too. Would LOVE the dragon themes as well. -
Personally I don't think the ideas are that bad. They are not impossible to do with the current system ether.
-
With the option of a full respecification happening, and the sheer apparent hatred of the idea out there, I have come up with another idea, that I am sure some one has thought of.
With city of heroes I try to create the concepts I have outside of game. This usually isn't limited to 2 powers that one would consider primary or secondary. For example, you have one charater that normally uses claws and replexes, but when they get pissed, this power expands to use spikes, and taps into their darker nature and changes to dark armor. A natural and technical type could change out weapons, armor, and gadgets. The iron man cartoon comes to mind where he changes out which armor he is using seemingly at a moments notice when not in combat. There could also be animations for this actions of power switching, such as a weapon's rack popping up, maybe like The Matrix, where the hero puts away his dual pistols and pulls out a rifle.
I also noted that with some their slots for servers is full.
So here is my thought, I am sure people have heard of before, and hate equally as so.
Why don't we have a mode our lvl 50 characters can start back up at level 1 with these powers. This would be restricted to power sets for that archetype. They will have all their badges and such, with some level appropriate unlocks on some. Once they reach lvl 50 with those powers, after a long wait time between set changing power set pairs, they could interchange their primary and secondary powers.
This way you can continue playing the same actual character in the same general location, but adapt between solo, mish, task force, etc builds. Now this will by no means be something one could do on the fly in the middle of combat. This will allow us to cut down the slot use by 1/4.
So decent idea?
Chance of happening? -
-
Man, didn't think it would be that bad of an idea...
-
Because I obviously don't know of a better place to put it, and it is a Suggestion/Idea for the Devs.
So, would you like this option for at least one character of yours?
P.S. I don't buy the fact that it would be too hard to do. -
Quote:He sorry about the spelling, half asleep.I like how you wrote the name of the mechanic three times in two different ways, and didn't get it right once. (Hint: 'respec' is shorthand for 'respecification'. 'respect' is esteem or honor. 'resect' is generally a medical procedure involving partial removal of something)
Also: It's not going to happen. Just roll another character. And if the devs were for some reason inclined to make it happen, they wouldn't have enough time to do it before GR anyway.
Also: You know I didn't ask if you think it is going to happen or not, but rather if you want it or not. So please stay on topic. -
With the live questions answered on Friday I would like to make note that there will be no full respec. The actual question was that if we would be able to full change the character archetype, primary and secondary power sets.
All I am concerned about is the primary and secondary power sets.
I would like to request to allow 1, and only 1, full power respec per pre-order of Going Rogue ( I would really like it for every character, but not trying to be too picky). Some of use have concepts that will be better fufilled with what we were planing with the new power sets.
So who is with me on this? -
Hello everyone. I would like to install my game with out having to start up Steam. I originally got the game via CD, but have long lost it. So is there a way to install the game with out a CD and not having to start up steam?
Thanks -
