Hell no. I've said repeatedly that Cole is not in the right. But that does not justify genocide. Nothing does.
-
Quote:So, you are OK with them killing everyone in that city? That's an acceptable idea for you?Actually, he's trying to wipe out humanity and replace it with a population of soulless drones - Tyrant fears and despises human beings for being human.
They don't seem to be attacking the places outside Praetoria where other humans live
EDIT: Actually, I have a question for the Crusader supporters. Let's say your plans succeed, and Utopia city is now a smoldering shell, and everyone inside is dead. How, exactly, is any of this supposed to destroy Cole's empire, when he can simply fly to the next largest populated city on the planet, and ask for greater controls over the populous, to prevent the tragedy which has just happened from repeating itself?
Cole himself is OK with letting Arachnos waste a third of his city because he can use it to further demonize the Resistance. Your characters have to disobey his orders to prevent the destruction from happening. So, how is the great Crusader plan supposed to work if it's NOT genocide? -
Essentially you're flipping over the chessboard because you didn't win in three moves.
Make no mistake, I do not condone Tyrant's actions, but as long as humanity survives, there is a chance to free them WITHOUT killing them. Once you've murdered everyone the game is over. -
-
Quote:The point remains, Cole's ultimate goal is the preservation of Humanity, much like animals in the zoo. The Crusaders are willing to cast the entire city into the abyss.Praetoria is not large or dense enough to hold millions of people. Hyperbole for the lose. And Cole's reach and evil extends far past the capital city. You all ignore the terror that's not staring you in the face and denounce the Crusaders because they get their hands dirty.
-
Quote:Remember, EvilGeko has thrown in with the Crusaders. If he's OK with them killing millions, then Cole killing thousands probably doesn't phase him.Well, maybe not reasonable - but still a few less twirls on the moustacheometer - like there'd still be the mass murder, "disappearances", torture, propaganda, tightly controlled media and education and so on - so it'd still be an evil system, but not quite the over the top evil system that's shown right now.
Quote:And like I said earlier, Enriche and the drugged water supply take away the angle that a lot of people are genuinely happy with Tyrant and his dictatorship - if there was no drugging of the citizens, but they were still shown to support the fascist government, that would add a bit more gray to the setting. -
Quote:Actually, all four alignments can team up for the Task Force itself, it's just that unless the Rikti hit one zone on each side afterward, there's a possibility that your friend may end up running the TF, only to be unable to participate in the actual invasion. So basically I'm looking for a hero and vigilante team, with a few rogues or villains.
And speaking of which, when was the last major invasion? Aren't we about due for another? -
It's nothing more or less than mass murder in my eyes. The murder of every man, woman and child in the entire city. Just because someone is killing people does not mean you can justify killing more, just to deny them victims.

Quote:I'm saying that ANY course other than the extermination of humanity is preferable. And yes, it is futile for a lone Loyalist to attack the regime. I will not argue that. KILLING EVERYONE IS NOT THE NEXT LOGICAL STEP.I just want to focus on this, because this is the key point. Are you saying that leaving the tyrant in place, allowing freedom to die, and having humanity forever being subject to an immortal dictator is the preferable course?
Because, you did not offer a contrary strategy. You seem to recognize the futility of attack the regime directly. I must agree. I've actually given some thought to how the resistance could do this and not harm any innocent people. I can't think of anything that would work. This was a frightening thought to me as well. -
Answering the wrong question, here. I asked if they warned the people that the Resistance was about to engage in wholesale slaughter. Did they tell the people that the Resistance was about to reprogram the Clockwork to slaughter them, so they can get the children out of the way. Did they tell the people that the Resistance was about to set off a Neutron bomb in Nova, so they can get the children out of the city?
Quote:I guess I don't understand. Cole and his monsters created the Clockwork and armed these robots, the Resistance is just turning the weapon the other way.
Cole's golden boy, Neuron created the Ghouls and set them against the Resistance. The Resistance is just turning them back on the society that created them.
Quote:As for the nuclear strike you all get so incensed about, it's Cole's nuke. Again turning his weapons against his perfect society.
Quote:I can't side with that. I can't understand why anyone would. I CAN AND DO understand why you have no sympathy for a society that accepts this. I CAN AND DO see that such a society is better off destroyed than allowed to perpetuate that evil.
Quote:OK, let me ask you this then. What should the Resistance do? How should they fight? They are a demonstrably weaker force against an enemy with more troops (including supers) and more resources.
Quote:Should they simply roll over and let Tyrant control everything? Don't tell me "work within the system." That's not a reasonable option. Cole is a dictator and he's immortal. He's not going anywhere unless pushed. How do you do that without anyone innocent getting in the way? -
It's EvilGeko that really makes threads like this entertaining for me any more. His views are absolutely fascinating. It allows me to see the views of someone who sees the Joker as more Heroic that the Gotham PD.
Quote:Actually, when I started my Responsibility Loyalist, I had every intention of taking him evil. In fact he was to be my main character's evil counterpart. However, after running him all the way through the Responsibility track, I found that sending him to the Isles would require him to have a complete personality overhaul. Meanwhile, in Paragon:Question: Is your Responsibility path "hero" TRULY loyal to Cole and his regime? As opposed to being someone like Cleopatra who tries to subvert the excesses of the system.
- He will continue to save people from the Freakshow, just like he protected them from the Resistance.
- He will continue to save people from the Tsoo and the Family like he protected them from the Syndicate.
- He will continue to save people from the Council's machines, just like he protected them from the Clockwork the Resistance had reprogrammed.
Golden Girl asked earlier if our Responsibility Loyalists would shut down the evil parts of the Utopian government. I think at this point, M I A probably would. However, it's become a question of priorities. Before we can take down the government that kills SOME of the people, it's far more important to take down the terrorists who are trying to kill EVERYONE. They've tried to nuke two-thirds of the city. And their actions toward the survivors aren't that family friendly, either.
EvilGeko, I remember what turned you against the Loyalists in Beta - it was the Seer program drafting teenagers - excuse me, children - and what happens to them while in the program. So, now I have something to ask you. Did you see anywhere that the Resistance was going to warn people about the multiple nuclear strikes, "so they can get their children out of harms way"? Did you see any similar warning about the Hospital bombing? What about the rampaging Clockwork, did anyone "think of the children" there? Or when the Ghouls were set to rampage across the streets?
Is Tilman evil? Without a doubt. But as long as they are alive in the Seer program they still have a chance. We have proof of that in the Crusader arc itself. However, the children that are fed to the Ghouls? The ones vaporized in the destruction of Nova and Neutropolis? Even in a world of comic book heroes, these people aren't coming back. -
Actually, I have a question on this: Is the Rikti invastion still only one zone, or did they change it so that it hits one zone in both Cities at the same time?
If it is the former, you might want to make sure your friend is a Vigilante or Rogue before trying this, since there's every possibility that the invasion won't hit the city your friend is native to.
Meanwhile, do you have a planned day and time for this run? I'd be willing to participate, depending on when it falls. -
-
It was the Deviantart site. At least I have an active, registered anti-virus program that seems to have caught it in time, though. EDIT: Watching it repeatedly block a new IP address, and I have it running a scan currently.

The image was nice. The Attack program that was attatched to the site not so much.

Quote:Yeah, it's not the mines we have to worry about. It's being enslaved DJs on Skynet radio. Trust me on this.Well gee, Mr. Mad Scientist, do you really think so? "Beneficial and deleterious aspects," you say? I wonder what those could be. I'm drawing a blank on the beneficial. As to deleterious, how does SLAVING IN THE VENUSIAN DEUTERIUM MINES FOR OUR HEARTLESS, DECEPTIVE METAL OVERLORDS sound? Think that might be "deleterious"?
Science...it's all about coulda' not shoulda'. -
Quote:I doubt that's the case. We've got a couple folks in this thread talking about seeing their doppelgangers use powers higher than the mission level. Something I can confirm after seeing the Spider pets on the Posi run I took my Wolf Spider on.Thugs/Dark isn't so bad, especially if you consider you'd be facing Fluffy if the level cap for the arc was much higher
I'm thinking if Thugs/Dark was going to have access to fluffy, then they'd have it at any level you'd face them at. -
Reporting for warm sentiments and good feelings, ma'am!

Not as much as you'd think, depending on the secondary. NPC Masterminds don't get the benefit of Bodyguard, and the pets croak when then Clone dies. Just sit by the door, and send in your own pets targeted on one specific Clone. Clone goes down fairly easy, as long as you didn't bump them up to Boss status. Retreat to shed agro from the others. Repeat.
Only died the once from the initial swarm, and even then I was able to wipe two of them before it happened. -
Y'know, when I started this thread, I was mostly considering theoretical issues running solo. I had no idea that so many people had already tried these sets o' doom.
-
Quote:Heh, yeah that was an oddity for me as well, when I ran the mission on my Bots/Traps mastermind. I know the character is supposed to be a genius, but for them to have their own armies of Robots mere minutes after being popped out of the clone chambers is...impressive, to say the least.Even though that is a lower-level arc, and my Crab (who was flashbacked) did not have access to any of his pets...somehow ALL HIS CLONES DID. As the clones start popping out of the woodwork, I eat a few inspirations and prepare to go to work.........and my jaw just dropped as they all started summoning Arachnos disruptors and spiderlings.
Though I was a little sad to see that the clones were Bots/Devices, instead. -
I made this comment in one of the Global channels I am on, and a couple of the responses I got back were Empathy, Pain, and Plant/Storm as real trouble sets.
-
So, I'm in game on a level twenty Villain, and looking at Dean in my contact list I had a thought that's got my curiosity up. The character in question is a Dual Pistol/Rad corrupter, and thinking about the powers that would be available, I really did NOT relish the idea of trying for the Army of Me badge without help. Of course, now I'm thinking about what OTHER sets that would be rough in that mission.
So the question is: Who wouldn't you want to take through that mission solo? Difficulty doesn't matter, just which powers do you not want to see an entire team of? -
Quote:There's one difference between the two scenarios: You will generally only see certain names reworked with punctuation, leet speak, or intentional typos. (though, some names, such as my own, may suffer unintentional typos) However, a system where Global names are visible would effect EVERY name no matter how many people may have it.The @ distinction is awkward to me, and feels more like resistance to change given verbage. That doesn't mean it's not a legitimate concern, just feels like it's trying to redirect where the issue of contention is. But that could well just be my different perspective and dismissing the view. I'd much rather see a Shadowstorm@Hector42 than Shad0wst0rm. Sidenote, the villain 50 paper missions with 0mega really annoy me
