This makes me sad. That shoulder cape is one of the most obviously missing pieces in the game. Why can't we get it, and why would you tease us with a picture that implies we can -
[u]Midnight Squad[u]
I'm rather surprised we're getting this AFTER Jack left the game, but it looks interesting. Totally different from anything else, but I don't really have any feel until I actually run the zones. I'm excited to see how this part of the story plays out though.
Curious about the 10-20 joining stipulation. I'd wager it's just so we can join early, but can't abuse the initiation mission like the Vanguard one. It looks like the rest of the arc fits in the more missions for everyone concept started in I10.
EXTREMELY excited for the Roman costumes. The shoulder cape mantle alone is cheerworthy, but the rest of the armor looks terrific as well.
[u]VEATs[u]
Interesting... very interesting actually. Honestly, there's not a whole lot to go on at this point. So far they look FAR more RP friendly than the Kheldians assuming they don't turn into seafood. They may as well simply be a couple of new powersets villainside.
I'm really curious to see what those powersets will be though and how this "branching" concept will work out and when it will occur. Personally, I wouldn't be exactly surprised if the branching happened at level 40 in place of our Patron Pool and only consisted of 4 powers or so.
Still, there's all sorts of potential here to make some cool, unique characters. I assume there's no gender restriction here? Blood Widows are almost certainly going to play as some kind of Claw/Spines scrapper style character while Wolf Spiders could do Mace style attacks well. The specialization has me more interested, however, as a Widow has a lot of Psi attacks and the idea of getting all the Crab blasts and attacks is interesting.
Honestly, I just won't know until I see the sets, but there's certainly potential here.
[u]Powerset Proliferation[u]
No. No, no, no no no. Why would you do this? I promised myself no more alts. I promised I'd focus on my existing characters and really put time in to finishing them. Most hold strong... must resist... must... not...
Cool. I know this has been on a lot of people's wishlists for ages. Looking forward to seeing what comes out of this, and whether or not I need to reroll a few characters.
[u]Hollow's Makeover[u]
Really? Now? I have to say part of me just laughs at this, but better late than never. I think it's much appreciated and will be very welcome, particularly to new players, but I will mourn the loss of years worth of jokes of the trial by fire that has been the Hollows for most of the game's existence. Thank you.
[u]Gameplay Improvements[u]
Power tray configuration! Really excited about this and all the things we can do with it. Likely I'm going to have a teleportation grid tray open at all times if you keep up the new teleporters this issue.
Contact redesign will be welcome. I've wanted sorting since... Issue 1 I guess, but the Detectives have made it mandatory.
Inspiration Conversion has some interesting possibilities. Lots of tactical uses for this and a great way to keep people involved in their inspirations.
Highly welcome chat improvements. Once I get used to them, I have about 2,000 stupid tricks I'll need to unlearn.
Hmmm... numbers.
Looks good. Live please -
So, what's the new mission do? I didn't see a badge or anything. Is it just sorta for fun?

2. Reduce the minimum number of players required for a TF or SF to a maximum of six. Only exception: STF and LRSF, since they are meant to be endgame challenges and "hardcore".
[/ QUOTE ]
Just to quickly touch on this (since I'm on the Training Room with the Wedding Event, but reading here too) - most Task Forces and Strike Forces have a requirement of 4. I was looking over documentation on the list of SF/TF.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think people are ok with 4, it's the exceptions that people are concerned about. There's a few 8 minimums in there that often lose a person or two by the end that are going to be VERY difficult now.
Personally, I assumed this was mostly for tricks like having a Stalker spawn an entire mission and then charging through it with the full team. Mostly seen in the Villain respec trial to reduce the vines. Either way, understandable change, but there are few TF/SF out there that really have needed some attention, even before the change. -
I always try to get my lesser used characters past struggling points during XXP weekend. Last time I spent it getting Fire Imps for my Dominator, and this time I spent it getting my Brute to Grandville. I almost never spend the time on my "main" characters, simply because they get plenty of playtime on their own and it's such a great time to get alts the big exciting powers that kept you from playing them before.

The PS3 has tons of USB ports. You could play the game with a USB mouse and keyboard easily. A bluetooth version would be even better though.
Honestly, the best thing that could come out of CoH on the PS3 is a massive graphics overhaul. It's actually amazing how good this game still looks, but it could use a technical facelift all the same. -

So, here's a top ten question that hasn't been answered yet. As of this morning, I received a most interested email in my box. apparently, the spammers have now moved to email. /ignore_spammer doesn't really work so well on someone who logs in, creates a mass-email, and then logs off after deleting the account, logs in with a new user name, and so on.
The admin/support believes that the information has already been addressed. and have referred me back to this thread, stating that it's already taken care of.
All I'm curious to know is, most of the other MMORPGs have a designated 'spam-box' that you can just forward junk email to, at no charge, and I'm wondering if CoH/CoV has a similar box, so they can have physical PROOF of the issue.

I wouldn't say the issue has been resolved by any stretch of the imagination, but we've been told they're working on a way to reduce in game email spam. -
One thing I'd really love to see added in a SG is an option for a 2x3 entrance room. I hate that there's no way to line up a centered entrance with a centered hallway to give you that grand entrance feel. Do to the nature of the room adjacency limitations, I've got enough room for something like this anyway.
It's probably technically impossible with the way the entrance room seems to be coded into the base system (ie the only thing that perpetually exists), but it would be wonderful if we could do something with this. -

Much of that original group of friends has moved on to other games, and as such, one of my big goals for Issue 11 is to find a new group to share their ideals.
The group strives to be a place where people can enjoy the game at their own pace, while still having access to SG related content. The base is up to date with the latest PvE features, including invention tables, storage, a med bay, and 12 teleport locations. Let me know if you're interested in a fun, casual group.[/list] -

Gee I wonder how much Silos had to do with the coming storm heh, with comments like "my unparalleled intellect" I suspect a high amount of arrogance and blindness to effects of experimentation that caused the catastrophe and now he's trying to fix his mistake without admitting he made it ("the less you know the better").
[/ QUOTE ]
He doesn't really hide the fact that his actions played no small part in the end of humanity when you talk to him. After destroying the world he finally stood up and cried "do over!".
Or did he... -
I'm sort of creeped out right now. Last night I was discussing clearing out my SG of inactive members when I thought... "what if they do another 20k prestige thing soon?". Weird. Now I've just got to get a few more to top things off.
Certainly nervous, but that's expected with any major change. Keeping the dev staff that's been doing such a great job since I8 certainly helps. They do excellent work, and I'd be far more worried if it was cut short.
Hopefully, this only means good things. Obviously it's heavily related to the MUO situation, but they probably made the right choice here. No IP concerns, fewer worries over priorities and organization as well. Cryptic gets to put their full efforts towards their new project while NCSoft ensures their project remains successful.
Hopefully NCSoft really does appreciate the game and continues to support it fully. Truthfully, they always were the final say in how long it continues, so little has changed in that regard. Here's hoping for many more exciting years of CoH. Cheers to the devs on their new jobs and best of luck to everyone! -
I like this idea. Well put together and quite solid. I think Student is probably the most problematic, simply because it's a power levelers dream. It wouldn't be a horrid idea to make these somehow inherent to the character creator either, perhaps unlocked via level up like the Peacebringer travel options.

unsure if this is best to say it, but found a bug already, was looking through costume options, and gladius under dual blades is not showing as visable in hero creator, please delete this and move it as nessasary as I haven't checked to see if I'm in closed beta. it looks like I'm holding air though.
[/ QUOTE ]
some of the katanas are not matching right with hands either. and the gladius seems to be not in the game yet, havent had it show up at all, and on dual blades the kopesh and the short ghurka blades(forget their name) are bugged right now too.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm pretty sure that neither of you guys are supposed to be discussing that here. Should there be beta forums you can post that on?
[/ QUOTE ]
The beta cuts you off when you try to actually enter the game. The character creator is still open to anyone. -

didn't even mention weapon customization... which, I believe, is the best part of the Issue.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, it really is one of the strongest points of the issue. Conventional wisdom about what new players want to hear probably says that no one really cares about customization and want to know more about loots, content and powersets, but honestly, customization is a huge draw to a game since it helps personalize the experience of it even moreso.
If it were me, I'd have opened the article with talking about Ouroboros, then the new enhancements, then the new Powersets and finally closed it strong with Weapon Customization.
[/ QUOTE ]
Likely this interview was done a while ago and held under wraps until NCSoft gave the green light to publish it. Considering Positron already mentioned that WC was finalized for this issue rather late in development, it's quite possible this interview was done before WC was even in the I11 build. -

So... if we can only create a door to the Ouroboros Citadel after we've been exposed to time travel, and we can only time travel by going to the Ouroboros Citadel, how do we get exposed to time travel in the first place?

*Taps Sadako on shoulder*
*Dredges up ED, I9 Doom and MUO threads*
"See? It's like getting hit over the head all over again!"
(More seriously, I expect we'll need to do some of the actual content or speak with contacts to gain the ability, much like doing Levantera's arc gives us merits)
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, since your future self goes back in time and repeats the actions of your past self, thereby replacing your past self in your prior adventures, then your past self is actually your future self who already has the power to open the door. Therefore, if your past self has the power to open the door, then your current self must still have the power, allowing you to open the door in the future to go to the past so that you have the power in the present.
It's really quite simple. -

*sniff* I'm just so happy
Thanks Devs, this Issue will be awesome
[edit] anyone know if you'll be able to change the actual look of the weapons, (i.e. the shape of the sword/hilt) or just the color?
[/ QUOTE ]
On the UK page, there's a picture of a guy with a rather ornate katana in one hand, and a very short blade in the other. Looks like you can definitely change the look. You wouldn't need the drop down menu if it was only the color. -
Ouroboros system! I saw this one coming, I'm just really curious how it will work. Probably a new shop somewhere or something, but the UI for this should be interesting. I'm really curious about the custom parameters. I hope they really shake up the status quo as far as running missions is concerned.
Weapon Customization - so many praises I don't even know where to begin. I just hope there's some really great options here, but the system itself has me excited to an unbelievable degree. I've got at least 3 characters that will heavily abuse this
New Powersets - Combo system? Extremely intriguing. I really hope Dual Blades is as fun as it looks. I really want to wrap my hands around the mechanics of this thing.
Inventions - Rarer loot? Meh. At least I'll ignore as always. Thrilled to see some new options for sets that currently can't use the Invention system very well. This is the one thing I'm not drooling over, but I'm sure someone's screaming praise for it, and given the fact that the other announcements push my brain's ability to not explode to their limits, it's probably good that this one isn't quite as full of awesome for me -

So I could dual wield Katanas huh? Cool.
So what if the weapon I want doesnt work so well with the power? I can't dual weild two pistols as a assault rifle guy and shoot fire and grenades out of no where so much:-p
But if we can FINALLY customize some of our powers that will just be very cool. For bow, a crossbow instead could be neat but I dont see how some of the power animations will work. Probably just a different looking bow then.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think your options will be pretty limited to a few different styles per weapon. They will use the exact same animation no matter what, just change the weapon being held. Assault rifle will always have a rifle of some kind, dual pistols won't be an option on the AR sets. Likewise, I'd wager Broadsword and Katana's options will generally be limited to weapons will mostly be rather exclusive to one another. -

ok, this thread has WAY to much negativity, it outweighs those of us that try to look on the bright side, I hate to say this but this will be my last post on this thread as people just seem to want to bi**h and moan about how THEY think the dual blades should look, I think the poll about the powersets were about us choosing a power theme and not having any control on the outcome, in my earlier post I threw out some suggestions onto the thread but now after reading this thread more thoroughly I won't be coming back to this place of eternal darkness... so long black pit of despair and hello sunshine...

[ QUOTE ]
I did vote for dual blades. I just want the blade to look exciting, and not just the animation
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, that happens to be exactly how I wanted the blades to look myself. Are you saying your happiness is more important than mind? That's awfully selfish -
I'm really happy about Dual Blades, both in concept and appearance. Exactly what I was hoping for. Of course, they'll get ripped apart because the people excited for them don't whine and moan like the people who didn't want them in the first place, so I'm sure by I11 they'll be gutted.
And weaponry in comics is always dependent on the enemies encountered. Characters with weapons appear all the time, but they always fight their own unique set of enemies that exist under the following types:
1: Monsters, demons, and other fictional creatures
2: Robots
3: Zombies, which goes in #1, but deserves mention as being once human.
4: Other weapon wielding characters.
For the most part, there's a huge number of foes in CoH that are good for Lethal weapon heroes. Vahz, BP, Rikti, Rularru, Warriors, even CoT to a degree. Malta and Council push it a bit, as they sort of fit into both ends. Honestly, the only groups that I couldn't see stacked against a lethal armed hero would be the Skulls, Hellions, Outcast, and probably Carnies. -
It's a very well written idea, but I honestly don't feel it would work as well as the OP suggested, nor do I feel its necessary. Dev communication is for the the most part, very good over all. We'd all like a constant flow of new information, but the fact of the matter is, it takes longer to design and implement changes than it takes to explain or discuss them. The devs let us know what's in the works for the most part as far as "almost certainly going to happen". They simply can't discuss pipe dreams or things that could easily fail to work as intended, simply because we're FAR too good at taking what they say as a definitive promise.
Honestly, I don't think there's a problem of not being heard. We voice a lot of complaints and suggestions, and we get a lot of responses. We don't get a response to everything, and we don't get everything we want, but that's expected given the rabid nature of fans. Heck, _Castle_ even bothered to bounce Defiance ideas when he needed to wrap his head around the problem. That's a pretty phenomenal level of communication. You just can't expect the devs to respond to every single suggestion or complaint.
Well written suggestion, I just don't see that there's a real problem to worry about. -
I'm not expecting any of these changes to affect the game personally. What I see is a general theme around "What If?" that will eventually explain the in game logic behind the Flashback system. Whether it's a new store in town or some kind of new device given to us all, I think the point of the articles is to get us into the infinite possibilities mindset required to buy into whatever "What If?" machine Dr. Farnsworth... err... Aeon has cooked up.
