  1. One of the things I like about seeing your name, Samuel_Tow, is that I know your writing will be clear and thought-out.

And I agree about having a discussion between players and devs is what has made this game thrive in good ways. Indeed, I still hope that that player will come write on the forums so such a discussion can occur for their ideas.

My point in writing this was spurred by a different motive. Rather, I feel I do not thank all the rednames enough for the proportion of expectations I demand.

That point may have gotten lost in my desire to tell a backstory, which is why I am a veteran in sincerity yet a novice in writing technique.
  2. Because I am long-winded I will start with the main point:

Thank you for City of Heroes, Devs, OCRs, Mods, rednames all!

The story, condensed from hours of back and forth:

Tonight in game chat a vocal player was adamant about their opinions on how the CoH game was fundamentally flawed, unbalanced, and unfair. They were met on all sides by people who disagreed in part or whole.

I also added my strong opinion, mixed with urges for them to take the discussion to these forums. Devs would never see their words in that game chat, but on the forum it could be given visibility and weighed, like the reaction to the new CoT designs, I argued.

It took a long while, but I finally realized meeting them head-on was getting nowhere. I began an new abstract approach, trying to figure out the drive behind the opinions. It took longer to convince them that my words were written with a smile and genuine interest, rather than sarcasm meant to be taken to an extreme, but once we both tried to be understanding things progressed. Slowly, but we did move forward in a discussion both involving CoH and non-game concepts.

Just before I had to call it a night, I tried once more to guide them to come to the forums. Alternately I encouraged them in create their own game with would be the utopia of MMOs and asked them to let me know when they had something better than City of Heroes for me to give 100% support.

They agreed that would be the challenge. But even just thinking of the ideas and maybe telling others who may or may not use them is sometimes enough.

Ah-ha! I finally understood something clearly about this person at a fundamental level. They are a thinker rather than a do-er.

Yet, I could not shake my head over the fact that the likelihood is they would forever be talking of their ideas rather then doing whatever was needed to see them created in their ideal.

After all, hadn't I started out the conversation the exact same way? Entrenched in my rightness I tried to change another with words alone so that person would have the same vision as I.

Much humbled at this realization, and being a woman who's always tying things in, I mused about the similarities to the stages of a relationship: Appreciate, Expect, Demand.

At first, every little effort is appreciated. After a while, repeated efforts are expected. Finally they are demanded, and kindness is lost.

I had started out demanding that that person see my viewpoint as right. It wasn't until I stepped back to appreciate who they were and where their views were coming from that they opened up enough to accept my views. Even though we basically agreed to disagree in the end, it was much more than would have ever happened had we continued circling head-on.

The next thought was about how often I've come to expect, even demand, City of Heroes be the game I envision. I was a little ashamed to realize that when I think and tell other about City of Heroes, it is only about those parts that are how I want it to be.

So I decided to take my own advice, come to the forums, and step back to appreciate all the rednames for what they have created. And by extension thanks to all, rednames and players alike, who seek to uplift and build this great community. Being a part of City of Heroes has been one of the best experiences of my life. I commit to being more appreciative of the work and love that is done in its creation.

May you be true to learning your ideal vision and have the courage to pursue it!

    Stan and Lou

Tonight while teaming I mentioned Stan & Lou... and no one else on the team know what I was referencing!

So for those who are not yet familiar with the CoH humor that is Stan & Lou, or have had too long since hearing this classic, fear not! They can be enjoyed on YouTube, starting with Stan and Lou #1: Outbreak.
  4. So tonight the PERC auction time won with Zwillinger was spent on BAF runs. LINK

The evening was a fantastic success thanks to all the great people who participated!
  5. What a thrilling night! People came early and were generously patient as I slowly formed the league. Zwillinger was able to smoothly join in and within minutes we were off and running.

Not the best picture, sorry. Anyone have better screenshot(s) to share?

Kudos to who came out for one or more of the three BAF runs:

    Ncsoft_Zwillinger
    Ms Dynexus
    Figure 15
    Lava-Incarnate
    Caliburst
    Sonata.Zero
    Gemicide
    Scataloni Volt
    Little Sexy Kitten
    Medic of Death
    Aussie Dom
    Raven Veil
    xX Sassy Pickle Xx
    Glasir's Vengeance
    Orthanachi
    GeneralMayhem
    Dr. Turgenev
    Transcendent One
    Boyband
    Carp

Thank you so much for joining, behaving, and making it an especially memorable 2 hours!

An extra thanks to xX Sassy Pickle Xx, who took some of us out after for the "Master of the 5th Column Strike Force" and "Master of the 5th Column Task Force" badges. That was a very nice cherry to top off the pie/cake awesomeness that was the night.
  6. First run down in record time! What a blast!

If you'd like to join in, come wait by War Witch and we'll add you in for the next run. ;->
  7. Bring whatever you would enjoy playing casually, LateNite!

The first round is technically full, but please still hang out at War Witch in Pocket D. I believe there will be enough room for everyone tonight.

Anyone who has a reserved spot that doesn't make it in time for the first run will automatically become a Priority Alt for a later run.

When you log in please send me a /tell and wait by War Witch. I'll be there starting in 4 hours!

  10. This is great! Even when watching the video and chat live I sometimes miss details and always like to come read your notes. Thank you, Von Krieger!

Zwill thanks the folks that were on the training room to help with the stress test last night, as they found a major bug.
That was fun! Look forward to doing it again weekly until i21 launch.

    Thanks again, Von Krieger!

On a (slightly) related note, Zwillinger will be a guest of honor for BAF on Freedom later today, and everyone is invited to join. Details on the Freedom forum.

Whatever he's inclined to, just like anyone else. This is pure leisure time. I'll even be holding myself back from trying to get another badge during the runs. I know, hard to imagine, right?

The current list of available slots has been updated on the first post.
  12. These are great! Already have seen some commonly used in-game, especially "Tastes Like Enriche!", "Channeling Steelclaw", and "City of PowerPoint".

Here's my suggestion for a specific variant of the latter...

Pet Slog: When an overabundance of controller/MM/incarnate/temp pets generate lag by all firing at once and/or clog up an indoor instanced map.
  13. I'll let you in on a secret, Turg: The current plan is to do more than one BAF, time permitting.

Please sent me a /tell when you log in tomorrow and wait by War Witch. By speaking up in this thread it'll give you a priority chance for a later run.

FYI, something that worked for me today during the stress test was I logged on another character (or since I only had the one copied, I created a temp alt), zoned with them from Atlas Park > Kings Row > Pocket D, then was able to re-access my character that had been stuck "logging out". Not sure if it was the single or double zoning, or both with a little bit of time, that unlocked the main alt. I know just creating a character wasn't enough, so I logged back in the temp to tell people in Pocket D that I was locked out and go on without me, then tried again and was immediately able to get back on my main to lead the next BAF.

Either way, yeah, don't want that bug on Live servers.
  15. Thanks for the play time on test today, OCR team! Very nice of you to also hang out for chatter in Pocket D after.

Zwillinger, we missed you, please get healthy!

The stress testing is probably the only time I'm encouraged to break things. I enjoyed it immensely.

Too bad I didn't understand the point of these stress tests back when I joined my first one for the soon-to-be launched Arenas. Got in a team with a redname, all queued up for the battle, then DCed. Thought I did something wrong so I stayed logged off and didn't rejoin stress test events for years.

Now I know to chuckle and jump right back on to try again.

Anyway the point is I'm looking forward to joining you on test again next week! I'm already copying over multiple iterations of my main so that if one gets stuck logged on there are a dozen more to get back in game ASAP.
  16. Fingers crossed that Zwillinger recovers from his day of Con Plague in time for tomorrow night.

  17. That was impressive. Congratulations on the publication of your Steampunk edition. I enjoyed the mix of articles, interview, showcase, and even a recipe to try at home.

May all your creativity be as rewarding!

    Rogue Magazine

You did it again, Antoinette. Very nice!

The clever use of emotes to create the distinctive silhouettes in a nice case-in-point touch.

Hope the Fashion Show is a smashing success!
  20. That's right, there will be a special B.A.F. run on Freedom the night of Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 5:00 pm Pacific. What is different about this incarnate trial over any of the other hundreds done a day? Our head OCR Zwillinger will be joining in with us as a guest of honor!

There are 18 open slots on the league. Everyone is welcome to join as long as you qualify:

    1) Bring your level 50 character to Pocket D. Having your Alpha slotted with something is requested, but not required as long as you have Going Rogue.

    2) Chatting in the league channel is encouraged! Keep the language positive and clean, please. If something is insulting or the language filter would bleep it then don't say it in the first place.

Also, please follow my lead without adding in your opinions on how to run a B.A.F. trial. I'll be calling out instructions as needed. If you have questions at any time, send me a private /tell.

    3) No asking Zwillinger ANY questions, related to City Of Heroes or otherwise, beyond polite "How's it going?" conversation. Zero. Zilch. Nada. No questions disguised as suggestions or complaints, either. He is not coming for a Q&A. Zwillinger is attending for a bit of leisure time.

On the other hand - Compliments and praise towards our head OCR are very welcome and deserved!

Anyone who botches the above will be dropped to keep things running smoothly.

If you would like to join the fun, please do!

First come, first serve to those who leave a reply here with your character name and/or @global. Open slots will then be filled from those who send me an in-game email. You can also send me an in-game /tell @Yydr, but that is risky because I don't always get those. Final spots will be filled by anyone who logs in in time.

I will be on Dynexus around 4:30 pm Pacific, filling in slots from those who reply to this thread. About 4:45 pm I'll start filling from emails and /tells. And at 4:55 any remaining slots will be open to anyone logged in. As soon as Zwillinger logs in and joins the league at 5:00 pm Pacific, I'll lock the league and queue for B.A.F. to start.

See you in Pocket D near War Witch!

    Rocket Boards?

An option to use existing auras only around the leg and/or feet, similar to how most auras can currently be restricted to the hands, would be fantastic!
  22. How did I manage to miss participating in your 48 months thread? I was sure I had, but it's gone.

    *grumbles about Nemesis plots*

    Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS, Samuraiko!

May you ever grow in your love and enjoyment of demorecord.

    ~Yydr
  23. Congratulations! And what an appropriate way to celebrate.

Thank you very much for being who you are, Steelclaw. I always know when I see your name that I'm about to smile and/or guffaw.

    Cheers!

Technically everyone has an active billing date. It's simply the calendar date in the month that your subscription would renew.

For example: Your 12 month sub renews every April 14th. Your billing date is the 14th of the month.
