As it is now you often just have to skip some important stuff. Story wise 1000 characters is just a bit to short to form a good plot. A small story, which is what a bio actually should be, still has a beginning a middle and an end.
As it is now you get into probs just before the end / slot lines. It doesnt have to be double... Maybe 500 characters more is enough. -

Most of my better moments were when I was a newbie:
- Trying to get into Hospital when my health was low, and I hadn't a proper defeat yet. Even tried to run into elevators when a player run out.
- Trying to get into train when doors were open. "Clicking with blue hand" not yet discovered by then. Maybe I needed a train ticket?
[/ QUOTE ]
Or the old "clicking on the Train door over and over again, trying to figure out why they wouldn't work". Before eventually realising that the Train entrance and train exit are two seperate little rooms.

Ooohh.. I am guilty of this one too. I can remember sending an petition. Ahh.. starting out as a villain made me a bit metro dumb I guess. -

To be honest this isn't the same discussion (kind of any ways)
What Liz is suggesting is that they combine the server list and so throw open all the CoH servers for every one regardless of who they pay there subs to. At most this would require a global name change there would be no need for character name changes unless the player decided to hop server.
I'm all for this idea. it pretty much solves every ones problems, more potential people to team with, more slots to create alts on, it doesn't brake up groups of friends and even the legal issue may be some what muted if subs were still payed to the relevant territory.

OMG... finally someone who understands what I am trying to say here... And have been saying from the first post... thank you
Me and Vanex came on this idea after he and 2 friends left for the US too. And more and more are doing this. Without having the ability to come back. As it is the lure of full servers will slowly kill us. This is the moment to act... -

i believe they are actually planning the implementation of a single global or serviles environment
[/ QUOTE ]
It's impossible to rule out, but AFAICS there haven't been any statements (or even hints) that it's something they're looking at.
[ QUOTE ]
i would assume if they were doing this they would have some kind of way around the duplication of names (some kind of invisible character perhaps)
[/ QUOTE ]
That would be quite a challenge to type if you wanted to send a tell to a specific toon, though.
[ QUOTE ]
i would also assume they would have some way around the potential server melt perhaps ones could be spanned across multiple servers to lessen the load or something
[/ QUOTE ]
There's the spawning of multiple instances of zones: "Atlas Park 1", "Atlas Park 2", etc... they already do. But if you have so many toons on the same system you need to do this all the time you're losing a lot of the benefit of having them on the same system in the first place, which is that it's easy for them to meet up and play together.
[/ QUOTE ]
If there is one large list... and playing will get bad because of too many players naturally some would transfer to other servers... maybe even to union for instance if that was also in the list. -

like @charactername.union for instance... idea was mentioned earlier yes. -

/em facepalm
why are ppl still discussing about a merge, there something called a global server.
if they implanted just one global server, any problem with merging servers or anything els would just blow away.
[/ QUOTE ]
I told in this thread a lot now... NO merge of servers... BUT merge of server list. All servers in one big list available to all players.
But that would imply a global account merge. -

Well, let's set the record straight, shall we?
Jessica in my mind is a powerful mage.
In play she's about average with a lot of confidence. This play is RP/plot, btw, not just ingame missions.
She has a lot o behind the scenes resources, meaning she can do what ever is needed and or entertaining, with enough time to research and such.
She's a real believer of "magic is what you make it, not what I make it" so when handling a curse or spell or what ever, there's plenty of possibilities and angles and stuff.
There is NO flicking fingers to fix stuff, unless it's desired and I find it plausible (the latter part about as unlikely as the former)

Dr Strange in other words?
Basically battling limitless powered entities from beyond mortal ken in his own series?
Not wanting to attract said things to Earth by using that kind of level of power, for Earthly matters?
But without the awesome stache
[/ QUOTE ]
Owner and creator of the biggest Dr. Strange site here (www.drstrange.nl) And been for years now I can tell you thet although he can do almost everything... All has a price. And that in most cases his enemies are scaled to hi power levels. Something that is common in comics.
For instance...
Spider-Man vs. Dormammu... Spidey is dead in the water alone
Dr. Strange vs. Green Goblin... usually the Goblin has no chance
What often happens in these cases is the use of human problems and descisions. Stories can be twisted that Spidey finds an magical artifact or weakness to stop Dormammu or that the Green Goblin tricks Dr. Strange and bind his hands and mouth so spells are not possible.
The best magic manipulator only has low magic abilities without invoking powerful deities. The last will need the use of hands (for movements and postures) and voice (for incantations). The more powerfull spells need complete rituals.Dr. Strange was able to put down Galactus with one spell. But that spell was researched for hours before he ever arrived to the scene. -

Actually Horizon does ding IC. Her bracers absorb a little knowledge and experience from people she fights (Knowledgfe being power after all!) and give off an audible dinging sound when they've pieced together enough to weave and pass a new enchantment to Horizon's body.
A lot of effort just to make some bad puns, but worth it!
[/ QUOTE ]
For at least my two main RP toons that is not possible.... As both are immortal and should came to Paragon already at their current (lvl 50) power levels. So the levelling while levelling up was just ignored IC.
The others ... gainiong trust and new info on how to be a hero can be tought by any experienced old hero. So Back Alley Brawler can actually teach me how to be a better hero. Even if I am a fire blaster. -

Bending canon slightly is alright. For example, Blitz and the Unbroken Column (which I am a part of too) isnt really official canon, but its there, and fun.
I think the general thing that can be applied is 'if its god-moding, its bad'. For example, vampires that are suddenly immune to absolutely everything. I ran into TWO in Pocket D in one night, and a couple more dimensional/demonic undead beasties. My priest, who is a human, armed with a gun, lots of holy ammunition and basic skills with holy flame, basically got bounced off the walls, as 'Oh look we're immune to holy light too and holy bullets dont work either.'
/rant. Anyways, with canon as with most other things. Make it fairly sensible, dont drop one on other people and try to make it realistic.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're also forgetting that a lot of vampires state that the religious aspect is just superstition, because in order for it to affect them, it would have to actually be holy, rather than (in their eyes) just crazy men with 'special' water.
Does holy water and crucifixes really have power over undead or was it just a way of making the frightened and gulliable see them as powerful?
This is of course all a point of view in roleplaying but is just as valid as your own, so if that starts happening, just invite them to a team and talk with them OOC about it. If they really are godmodding, then you'll know as soon as you start talking OOC with them.
[/ QUOTE ]
I use the Bram Stoker's Dracula way to describe the weaknesses and powers of my Vampire Queen. Therefore she can walk in daylight... climb walls... turn into smoke... even command lower creatures.
As of weaknesses to holy stuff... That holds two sides... Fist the vampire has to see it as holy. He/she has to acknowledge the god as being there. In Liz her case the Katholic?Christen god excist as she was of that faith before she died / turned to demon gods. As is the case for Dracula himself. Second... there is a lot of faith that has to be put behind the user of such weapons. If the user is not believing... Him holding up a cross is not going to do much then annoy terribly.
Some are using bloodline and some keep the origin of Anne Ryce. Most of these vampire back grounds / origins can be combined though. -
Villa Palm, Liberty Islands
Slowly the sun came up... in a comfortable chair on the veranda of Villa Palm set the current owner. In her hand what seemed to be a Bloody Mary. She looked through the glass doors into her bedroom. On her bed slept a handsome black man.
The last months had been fruitful for Elizabeth Báthory. She had of course knowledge of the coming takeover of power. General Buku was slowly outliving his usefulness so she was already entrancing new men in power. Her eyes eventually fell on Andreas Armistead, the youngest head of security the Liberty Islands ever had. Presidents come and go... but the influence on this level would stay.
So when Buku was doing his best to get re-elected... she spend most of her time in bed with her new boy-toy. Meanwhile the scientists of the Court of the Blood Countess where working hard to build secret interfaces with the now well known weapon systems and communication network of the Liberty Islands. Elizabeth already knew every password and weapon base there was. So using these codes to build-in her own access before someone could change them was simply the next step. This was just her way to keep the control that could have become lost when the Hatesman left the League of Righteous Destroyers.
Softly smiling she sipped her drink. Buku had lost as was planned... and he was now living in an expensive home in Liberty City. She had been there a few times but the oaf made her sick as usual. And now she didn't need him anymore.
She walked up into the forest surrounding the villa. A young man came to wards her. He was a local gang leader listening to the name of David Jackson, and a shriveling drug addict too.
"Mistress, you promised me immortality... Please tell me what to do?"
Elizabeth smiled... for a moment the visage of her human guise of Elizabeth Thábyro faded for a second and her fangs where easily visible. She had no intentions to ever make this idiot a vampire, but as long as he was one of the want-to-be's he was very loyal and useful indeed.
"I have a task for you yes... our beloved ex-president is going to this club tonight." She gave him an adress... "See to it that Buku gets an 'accident'."
The man looked almost ecstatic with pleasure... "Yes mistress... he is dead already!", he said holding the address like it was a priceless artifact. He kissed her hand and left into the dark of the forest.
Elizabeth took another sip of her Bloody Mary before returning to her lover. Yes, it has been a fruitful month indeed.

Nightseye felt like she hadn't slept in weeks for a moment. Even the normally easy act of avoiding the ice blast cost her everything she had.
She just managed to let her body fall to the ground in an agile motion... letting the bladed icicles fly over her. She looked up as fast as she could... but that was for the moment waay too slow. The intruder was nowhere to be seen.
Cursing herself she noticed that the droids came in closer... "Identification: Nightseye... Recently new member: Militia... Objective: Failed"
These electronic words struck a small nerve. It would be better to return to her work for now and try to track down the woman later. She jumped on the top of the building and down the other side... disappearing into the ventilation shaft again. Back to the bathroom she had left before she would be missed. -
Nightseye looked up for only a fraction of a second. Her cat-like reflexes saw the woman charging. She jumped up over her and her claws grabbed the back of the intruder trying to topple her over. Shifting her weight she landed neatly behind her attacker.

Portal Corps: secure area
Slowly Feline Surbast examined the artifact before her... She was called in from the Paragon Museum of Classical History as expert on strange and sometimes dangerous ancient artifacts by the man beside her. His name was Dr. Gene DeCroix and he was Portals head of Dimensional Investigation.
The artifact was a neclace... It came from an alternative dimension not unlike our Earth... There the Portal team took it from a magician that was taking over the Earth. Even though they where not meant to be involved.
"At first sight I can't see anything wrong with it Mr. DeCroix. I will have to do some test. Maybe even find a magician to study it on a occult level.", Feline said...
Suddenly the alarms went off. Feline looked up...
"What is that Doctor?", she asked energetic...
"Ah... that's the security alarms.. I guess the droids encountered a hostile intrusion. They will be able to deal with it, I am sure!", he explained...
Feline looked worried... "Can I be excused for a second... where is the bathroom?"
"Sure... first door at the end of the hall. You are alright I hope?!"
"Ofcourse... just powdering my nose." She smiled and walked to wards the pointed bathrooms. Inside her attitude changed a lot. And with it her appearance. Her eyes turned yellow... and grey fur grew on her body. The claws of Bast where needed again. Nightseye would walk the Earth once more.
She opened the ventilation shaft and crawled in... The noise of action took her straight to the problem. She saw a woman engaging the guard droids.
"Who in the gods name is that?", she whispers to herself. Then jumped out of the shaft and blocked the path of the intruder. -
Its just as I see it from other games.. like AOC managed it. The tech wouldn't be any harder, its legal and VAT issues stopping them.
But if this cant be managed... why ever remove the posibility to transfer US > EU? If that keeps active all people who mistakenly started a trial on us (and there are a LOT) would be able to get to eu... while keeping their badges and veterans. -
In my opinion some sort of shell or new server list that shows all servers incl the european ones is technical no problem and would be a gods end...
Having one account for eu and us would be fantastic... -

((I am now revitalizing this idea... As the creative winner of the Omega Sector 2008 contest this is just too good to let die out!))
The Hero Idols had a lot of different semi-finalist. Those are all liable to be voted in by the public and as such potential new finalist as old finalist can be voted out.
This is a call for all semi-finalist to gather in Paragon City too. Those who show up at the recording studio will get a second chance to become the next International Hero Idol.
((OOC: Revitalizing means... The SG is recruiting. Rules... An Patriotic National Hero that has at least one costume in the proud colors of his nation's flag. It is basically RP, but I will allow serious non-RP players too as long as they can respect the IC comments of the RP-ers.))
((Contact @elizabeth bathory for details or invites)) -
I have so many alts.. eventually I get there.. Even my main is only on for maybe an hour a day...
btw.. I want to know if the combo Mortician - Midnighter is possible... Liz being an undead witch -
Damn.. that is bad news.. I had a ball.. Even if I had to come all the way from the Netherlands...
Lets all look around and see if a location like this can be replaced. I am sorry that the game center here in Scheveningen is hardly big enough to hold 400 pc's. But then again.. that is probably the reason why they are still there.
I would have been there this year... and I am planning to come to any next event that has a setup like the Omega event. -
The numbers in that list where done by /search by a friend of mine (Vanex)... he actually did them by hand. GR claimed that the total avarage of population on Union and Defiant is roughly the same. Practical information from search shows a higher population on Union. So... we can assume that either Defiant plays on other times or has more hidden toons. Last can be true as Defiant has more PVP-ers.
But PVP-ers or hidden toons will not help you find a team fast. So if its teams you like to see... Union is youre best shot.
I actually found myself moving more and more toons from Defiant to Union. Still have a nice bunch on Defiant.. but the list gets shorter every day.
I am guessing since the extra slots came available... there is a slow but steady migration going on. Wonder how empty a server must be to be officially closed down. -
I will go for a macro that activate it using the words "SelfDstr", at least for the toon that for the toon that is my actual cyborg.
-
I like to include my immortal mystical hero Nightseye. And ofcourse Elizabeth Bathory as part of the League of Righteous Destroyers
-
This should be made as error free police boost... read... a real PPD hardsuit over the character wearing it. Showing the right face etc.
Combined with police emotes etc. -
Maybe switch youre support toon from Defiant to Union... Eventually that will become the busier one of the two eu servers.
I am afraid Defiant is slowly dying out
