I hope it was supposed to happen, because while 25% off didn't make me buy character slots that I didn't really need yet, 50% off sure as hell did.

    Thanks for the heads up!

    Holiday Time!

Happy Holidays to you too, Zwilinger, the rest of the dev team, and the players!

I totally agree with this, and the rest of what you said in your post.

I happen to like all kinds of powersets. There are specific sets that I don't really find appealing, but I play all ATs, so I don't really feel like I'm getting a raw deal out of the free sets.

However, I do think that in an ideal world, each issue containing a free VIP powerset would instead give a token for any purchasable powerset (as suggested in the OP), enabling VIPs to pick which powersets are free, and which aren't. This would make the free VIP sets more appealing to a wider variety of people, and would be a more effective incentive to get people to go VIP. This not being an ideal world, however, means I already see technical hurdles for implementing such a thing. But I understand the desire for it.
  4. I bought the Winter Holiday pack. 400 points is a fair price, and I appreciate the convenience of not needing to run missions/collect candy canes for any new characters that would use these items. It also means that I'll be able to use these costume parts for any new concepts that might require them at any point in the year.

I know I normally pass on time-limited items on the market on principle (since I'm against artificial scarcity of digital goods), but I'm making an exception here because most of these are also earnable in-game, and consequently it's a convenience buy for me. Also, I'm assuming the pack will be back next year.

With the New Year's pack and Staff Melee coming up, I may have to buy some extra points. Keep putting out good values like this faster than my stipend can keep up, and I'll keep buying points.

It was good seeing you again, Tunnel Rat, and it was great to meet your husband, Honey Badger! (He doesn't really look like a Honey Badger, though. I was disappointed.)

Also, a special request from the Honey Badger (I know he wants a "cooler" redname but he is SO stuck with that.) We have some time coming up that will be specifically scheduled for auras. If you haven't gotten your aura or path aura suggestions in yet, please post them! We love hearing your ideas!
I have a suggestion for an aura: something that has dots, lines, and/or rings pulling into the character's body, making it look like the character is drawing energy in from outside, or flowing outward, making it look like the character is "overfilled" and leaking energy.

Example 1 (youtube) -- Note that I'm referring to the "charge up", not the blast. This one is kind of like the Kirby Dots aura often requested, though I don't know what most people's ideas of their motion would be, given that Kirby Dots are usually used in still images.

Example 2 (jpg-- imagine the rings slowly pulling inward, or flowing outward)

Thanks again for responding, and for the solicit for ideas!

I think selling the accolade powers is somewhat different from selling the accolade badges, if they can decouple them. Badges serve no purpose beyond saying "I did this". The powers are usable in the game by people that hate badge hunting, so I think offering them a chance to buy them would be a good idea.
  8. Thank you so much for fixing this! I was able to move the characters I wanted to Beta.

Goodbye, Avatea, we will miss you!

Thanks for all your work, and for being so kind and friendly in person at the Summit, HeroCons, and other meet and greet events.

I hope you and your husband have great times ahead of you in China!
  10. I have one more thing to say about this: I think that if they'd just named the SSA, "The Death of Statesman" or something similar, or "The End of an Era" and included the text in the OP as the general description of the story, then the whole "why would you spoil it" reaction wouldn't be happening in this way (though, there still would be people that thought it was a cheap stunt or whatever), because the story would have been about the how and why from the beginning.

It's not that there's anything inherently wrong with announcing that you're going to kill a character, it's that the story was set up as a mystery ("Who will die?"), and the mystery was revealed outside of the story, before we could learn it from within the story. Sure, now the story is about the how and not the who, but it started out as being about the who and was changed outside of the story to being about the how in the middle of it.

Anyway, again, I'm not super upset over this, just mildly disappointed. I just realized the above and wanted to provide it as feedback for future SSAs.

Where do you read this? I've cycled through what I think are all of Prometheus' dialogue options, and I can't find anything that says what you said. And yeah, I've completed both the TPN and MoM trials.

Thanks for the info, GF, and I thought that might be the reason. I agree with the decision, and look forward to buying the packs (assuming I feel the price is reasonable, and based on the mini-snowman pet's price, I'm expecting that it will be).

I wouldn't mind if it was Ms. Liberty (I assume you meant her, as Miss Liberty is dead! Though I suppose he could die to bring her back), assuming this sets her straight out of a realization that she's the only one left to carry on grandpa's legacy, but I hope it's Back Alley Brawler, complete with an official invitation to the Freedom Phalanx.

I hope it's not Desdemona. I think the model they get to play her at the cons is a really cool person and adds a lot to the fun of going there, but I don't really care for the character.

That's understandable from a marketing perspective, but just FYI, I didn't like it when they did that, either.

I'm not super upset or anything about it, just disappointed that I didn't get to learn it during the actual event. Many of my favorite memories about this game are from when I learned things like when I first got Omega Clearance, or the true instigator of the Rikti War.

There's a lot more questions to be answered and story to be explored, even after his death.

And trust me, his death scene is pretty stirring.
It's really weird to build up suspense with the series being called "Who will die?" and then just announce it a month ahead of time. It's also funny that he's dying in arc #5, and so #6 and #7 will be still be titled "Who will die?" with the question already answered.

Also, unless you've got something else up your sleeve, I think you're killing off the most recognizable character in the outside world, and I'm concerned about how it will affect your marketing. I think Statesman is an iconic character in name and design, and losing that permanently would be a shame. (It's funny that I'm saying this now, because that wasn't such a compelling argument for me back in 2007 when NCSoft bought the game, and I hoped they'd kill him off).

Personally, I think you should have killed Lord Recluse and had Ghost Widow take over Arachnos, instead.

That being said, I'm still interested in the outcome.

Yeah, I have to say that I think 3 tokens is an established norm anyway-- 3 tokens are equal one old-school vet reward. It sounded large when I first saw it back when the Tier 9 sets were announced, but when comparing it to the vet reward system, I saw that it was the same -- 3 months of subscription = 1 costume set (when it provided costume sets, anyway).

You are still misunderstanding me. I'm not making an argument about the amount of money that Super Packs will make, at all. All I was trying to do was help Void Huntress understand other peoples' perspectives. She said someone's statement perplexed her, and I tried to help explain it. I'm not arguing with anyone.

Also, to Void Huntress, I forgot to respond to this:

It may have unpredictable distributions, but that's not the same thing as gambling.

They're (very well-stocked) grab bags, not lotteries, not slot machines.
Just FYI, at the Player Summit, during the Market panel when Super Packs were announced, Positron said that he wanted us to "keep pulling that lever". The lead developer thinks they are comparable to slot machines.

This is also not what I was trying to say.

I was only trying to give examples where people would not be arguing for a situation where they would not be customers, by saying that they wouldn't be customers if they couldn't get some feature they wanted for free. That's it. I thought that would make you understand some people's positions better, as I got the impression from your post that you didn't.

That post was only intended to illustrate a situation where specific people would actually not be customers if Superpacks had exclusive costumes, and be customers if they weren't exclusive. It wasn't to show that Paragon would make more money if they allowed people to buy the costumes separately.

Let's pretend, at the moment, that there are two possible outcomes:

    1) Costume set is only available via superpacks

    2) Costume set is available via superpacks AND for purchase directly like other costume parts.

Let's examine 4 types of people that want the costume parts:

    a) Is against gambling with real money in any form, and won't ever buy Super Packs.

    b) Is against using exclusive items to coerce people who otherwise wouldn't gamble into gambling with real money, and won't buy Super Packs if they contain exclusive items on principle. Otherwise is at least willing to gamble.

    c) Doesn't like gambling, but would gamble if they had to to get costume parts they wanted

    d) Likes gambling.

So, if #1 is the case, you'll get money via Super Packs from c and d. If #2 is the case, you'll get money via Super Packs from d and maybe some money from b, and money from a, c, and maybe b from the purchased costume sets.

All 4 types are customers, and are willing to pay money, and a and b won't pay money unless there is an alternate way to pay money for it that they don't find distasteful. Does that make sense?
