I'm super tired, so here's a screenshot of Atlas 1-30 full, and I'm going to sleep:
Goodnight, everybody! -
I have mentioned in another thread that I also don't have very high hopes for NCsoft to un-cancel the game. But I also said I'd cheer the Titan Network on its attempts all the way, and the last 12 hours or so are me keeping my promises.
It was an awesome event. It was insane. We crashed Virtue, then we filled it and had 300 people in queue. Whatever happens, if this community can stick together, we'll come back to Paragon City after November 30th. Take the shutdown of the official servers as time for a little break while the server emulators get ready.
Just look at this, people. Freaking look at it. If even 1/3 of the people in that picture come back when we have our own community servers running, COH will continue strong for a very long time. -
If I send someone a design for a Doctor Leo mask, will they do me the favor of printing and mailing it? International mail is extremely unreliable down here.
-
Don't even ask me to find where it is. Because the placement is random every time I run the script, and because I made each entity name its ID so I could debug my script, I have absolutely no idea where any characters is, besides the four I placed manually. But every single one of them is there, somewhere.
-
Final version of that little sequence is here. I slowed down the camera a fair bit so you have a chance to find your own character in there.
I won't be doing anything else with this clip, since Samuraiko is going to use the scene in her own project, but many people have asked me to put the final version up, so here it is.
All the characters are placed randomly and use the same "READY" emote, with four exceptions: TonyV (he organized this thing, so he's writing on a clipboard); Samuraiko (she's going to use this on a video, so she's holding a camera); Hit Streak (he ported Samuraiko all over the place to gather footage, so he's standing next to her in desperation); and Ascendant (because it's freaking Ascendant, and I reserve my right to be act like a complete fangirl in this issue. He's talking on a cellphone.) -
It's a draft, so I didn't care about the branch. I have to spread the characters around quite a bit more in the final version so they spill into the street, I don't want them reaching into the park.
-
And here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQPJw5qAajs
That's the final version, not the draft that was posted here earlier. -
Already 3 Atlas Parks in Freedom. Don't waste time on the queue, fill Freedom too!
-
32 Atlas Parks, and my client crashed.
-
At this point I don't think anything but video would do this thing justice. There's just so many heroes that they are an indistinct mess in any screenshot.
-
Quote:Link?Leo, your pic is now up on Kotaku. I just mode a post there to acknowledge that it was your work.

I might be able to do that, all I have to do is open every single costume file, locate the scale value for the base height, and sort all the files based on that... possible, yes; no promises on implementation.
-
If he tells me his character name, I can confirm if he is or not. I currently have 1353 heroes captured from 22 atlas parks, before and after the crash.
-
Yay, didn't crash this time!
Don't ask me to find myself in this mess. I don't even know.
-
-
I crashed my graphics card driver while trying to render an animation moving over all the heroes... because really, they no longer fit in a single screen! This is as far as I got:
-
Oops! Accidentally left the names on this capture!
See if you can find yourself
-
-
I put the characters closer together to try to fit 780 characters in one screen...
The client crashed after rendering that frame. -
Yes, we crashed Virtue. Showing 3 grey dots. Logging on Freedom for now.

So I'm minding my own business in Atlas Park 7, when in Local I read something very, very familiar...
[Local] Ascendant: Hi. Is this NC Soft?
[Local] Ascendant: Great. My name is Ascendant.
[Local] Ascendant: No, with an 'A'. D-A-N-T.
[Local] Ascendant: Great. Can I speak to whoever is in charge over there?
[Local] Ascendant: I don't understand... How can you not know who's in charge?
[Local] Ascendant: ((hold music))--and young and lovely, The girl from Ipanema goes walking, And when she--
[Local] Ascendant: Hello? Yes, I'm still here. Can I speak to--
[Local] Ascendant: ((hold music))--But I watch her so sadly, how can I tell her I lov--
[Local] Ascendant: Hello? Yes, I'm still here. I was trying to speak to--
[Local] Ascendant: ((hold music))--and tan, and young, and lovely, the girl fro--
At this point I'm squeeing like a fangirl about meeting ascendant, and ask him for an autograph. Thus:
Ascendant Writes 'To Doctor Leo, Smash Evil! Your Pal, Ascendant'

[Local] Ascendant: We grew up in Paragon City.
[Local] Ascendant: We met our soul mates in Paragon City.
[Local] Ascendant: And one day, it's my hope--no, my belief-- that our children will have the fortune of growing up in Paragon City, too.
[Local] Ascendant: Like every other hero, I've spent every day of the past 8 years trying to save this city from disaster.
[Local] Ascendant: I stood up when the Rikti first invaded, and I've never stopped trying to fight for its survival.
[Local] Ascendant: Along the way, I made friends that I'll value for a lifetime.
[Local] Ascendant: I've had the benefit of being a part of their lives, and the tremendous honor of of having them in my life.
[Local] Ascendant: Together, we've had spectacular adventures, and made amazing accomplishments.
[Local] Ascendant: We've inspired people to do good.
[Local] Ascendant: We've righted wrongs.
[Local] Ascendant: We've stopped countless threats.
[Local] Ascendant: But, most importantly, we've reminded people that when they look to the skies, they can always find hope.
[Local] Ascendant: I'll be damned if I'm going to let you take away the whole city.
[Local] Ascendant: To that end, I will make it my solem vow that I absolutely will not rest unt--
[Local] Ascendant: ...hello?
[Local] Ascendant: ...hello?
[Local] Ascendant: ...I can't believe he just hung up on me...
[Local] Ascendant: Seriously, I mean, who even does that?
[Local] Ascendant: How big of a jerk do you have to be to shut someone down just when they're getting to the good part?
[Local] Ascendant: Ascendant: ((Do your part! Visit http://tinyurl.com/saveparagoncity to find out what you cand do to help Save the City!))
My client crashed from the sheer awesomeness that is Ascendant, but I think I got the whole thing! -
Quote:I don't think the client would be able to handle it. Right now, it's not rendering the torch for more than 50 heroes or so; and that's with particle effects at max. My computer is pretty beefy and I'm still getting less than 1 frame per second.I'd like to see a mastershot like this when we're at peak population. That could really tell a story...especially if we can get all the PCs ;holdtorch'ing.
So far, the client hasn't crashed, but I'm not sure how many more characters it can handle. -
A little bit ago in Atlas Park 4, Samuraiko was musing that she wanted to combine the demorecords from all the instances of Atlas Park into a single demo, to show everybody who is in the protest in a single scene. I wrote an script to do just that, extracting the costumes from everybody currently in the Atlas Park instances that I could get to, and putting them in the steps of City Hall.
This is what it looks like:
(Click for full size! Seriously, the small image doesn't do it justice.)
I couldn't get in to Atlas Park 1, so it doesn't include the heroes that are there, and I am probably missing a lot of heroes in the instances that closed after I snapshotted them. But already the demo plays at less than 1 frame per second, and a lot of heroes are ignoring the holdtorch emote they are supposed to be doing!
I think there's not going to be enough space in those stairs once the rally actually starts...
Edit: HUGE image was breaking the forums, I linked a smaller image.
