    You convinced me to try. I have a backup from 4 months ago, just before MA went live. It wont take too long to patch from then.

    I would try reinstalling but the most recent version is the one on my hard disk (about 2 months old). If I am right and this file was in a patch that I missed downloading then re-installing will result in the same error and I will be even further behind in patching.

    P.S. Appreciate the suggestions.

    File does not exist. My guess is that this file was added on a previous patch that I missed. Now the updater expects to see this file and errors. But I need to run the updater to get the file. Catch 22.

    What happened to the tech support forums?

    I am having an issue starting CoH after being gone a couple of months. I click on the icon and the updater starts but is a half second I get the following error;

    'Rename failed to delete target C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater_UI_Win.dll.
    This file may be in use by another program - make sure you aren't running CityOfHeroes.exe in another copy of CohUpdater.exe
    If all else Fails, try restarting your machine.'

    It lies! This file is not in use by another program, I am not running any other copies of CoH and restarting does not help.
  6. Wouldnt it be interesting if Safeguard and Mayhem missions were combined into a single mission? There has to be times that a Hero is doing a Safeguard mission and at the same time a Villian is doing the same Mayhem mission. Wouldnt it be interesting if they encountered each other in the bank? I am sure you can envision the possibilities.

    Probably not practical but if it could be done it would add a little more excitement to these otherwise dull missions.

    That wasn't a problem when badges were first introduced. They couldn't backtrack defeats, and they told us that up front. A few grumbles, but no major problem came of it.

    You were not around when badges were introduced or you have forgotten. "A few grumbles" is a vast understatement.

    The truth is that most badges were in fact awarded retroactively. The data mining process took months and not everyone got everything they should have but the majority were satisfied. However there were some fairly loud complainers in the minority.

    You misunderstand again! They dont fight with you for a while and then run. They start running from the moment you get near them. At best you can get a couple of shots before they are off.
  11. I am not fully understanding this as I have not spent the time and effort that you have investigating. However what I think you are suggesting is turning blaster/controllers into Tank Mages by using IO sets. The Tank Mage concept is not a good one for a multiplayer game.
  12. I am looking for a AUTHOR search feature. I have found that I really enjoy missions by some authors and not so much from others. I would really like to be able to search for missions from an author that I enjoy.

    Just personal preference and dont want anyone to take offense.

The guy that ran will be back. If you are fighting and defeat all but one or two, and they run, yeah. What would you do if your buddies just got pulverized by a superhero? I don't think you'd care if you have full-health or not. As for villains that just seem to run away all the time, good. Use the time to rest or something and wait for them to be back. If you have no patience, then just run after them! Turn sprint on and you are faster than the majority of villains in the game. So what if villains run? Just be patient and make the best of it.

    Its not really about the one minion who runs away while you finish off the rest of the spawn.

    What is really annoying is to have an EB run away before you even get a chance to engage him. It takes a long time to defeat an EB and they heal really fast as it is. If they keep running away from you it gets really frustrating.

    Doesnt happen all the time but when it does but it can be the most infuriating experience. I had this happen with Envoy of Shadows a couple of weeks ago.

    These are ranged mobs playing smart. Challenging and bugged are not synonyms. As far as I can tell, a lot of the moaning on this thread is that the mobs are not stupid enough or easy enough to kill. It may be "annoying" that Croatoa witches refuse to herd, but it's good strategy on their part, not a bug.

    If you read through the whole thread instead of just the last post you will find some good examples of Mobs running that should not.

    Dont be so fast to assume that people are just being stupid or lazy. I have seen some examples of broken Mob AI myself and it can be frustrating.

    I think the way this goes is if you HAVE the temp power you get dropped in the right spot. That's been my experience, and seems to agree with the posters who are all saying "but I don't have that power"

    This "feature" really needs to be fixed. People tend to camp around the dropspots and whack unsuspecting players as they zone in. This is not fun.

    Last Thurday (2/16) a friend and I both zoned into BB. Me first and then him. Both villians comming from the Cap. I appeared at the base and he over a mile away. Neither one of us had ever been to BB before, with any toon, CoH or CoV.
  16. I have always heard that stealth/greater Invis/cloaking device loose the 'hide' effect when you attack but that you keep the defense bonus they provide.

    Why do you think you lose this defense bonus? If it is that you get hit a lot - these powers do not provide a great defense but only a small one.
  17. Where did you get these numbers from? Weave gives you a 15% Def unenhanced? Leadership gives you another 15%? Are these numbers invented for this example or can you point us to some kind of list of powers?

    I would very much like to see what each power does for you. If you know somewhere that defines these powers I would appreciate you sharing.
