Tech Support?

What happened to the tech support forums?

I am having an issue starting CoH after being gone a couple of months. I click on the icon and the updater starts but is a half second I get the following error;

'Rename failed to delete target C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater_UI_Win.dll.
This file may be in use by another program - make sure you aren't running CityOfHeroes.exe in another copy of CohUpdater.exe
If all else Fails, try restarting your machine.'

It lies! This file is not in use by another program, I am not running any other copies of CoH and restarting does not help.

The Tech SupIssues and Bugs forum is just a few up from the player questions forum. That's the only, 'Support' forum there is.

But, until they come back, go into the folder that it's telling you the bad file is in, and manually delete the file. Then, restart the updater. It should work fine.

If not, you can contact NCSoft support by e-mailing support@ncsoft.com.

The Tech Issues & Bugs forum is located up under the "Development" heading on the forums.

File does not exist. My guess is that this file was added on a previous patch that I missed. Now the updater expects to see this file and errors. But I need to run the updater to get the file. Catch 22.

This may be a time consuming answer, but you could do a re-install. Hopefullly you have a recent disk to cut down the download time.

I would try reinstalling but the most recent version is the one on my hard disk (about 2 months old). If I am right and this file was in a patch that I missed downloading then re-installing will result in the same error and I will be even further behind in patching.

P.S. Appreciate the suggestions.

I dont think its in a missing patch, I think it may be a corrupted file. If you wipe it CoH off totally and re-install you should be ok.

You convinced me to try. I have a backup from 4 months ago, just before MA went live. It wont take too long to patch from then.

Yeah that shouldnt be too bad. That was one of the reasons I bought the MA box set, so I have a good hard copy backup.
