My 1st ever character was a DM/DA scrapper and I chose those simply because they sounded fun. That was around 10 months ago and because I have altitis he is still only level 26 (still my highest level toon tho).
Having now played other characters I admit that DM/DA does have a unique "feel" to it compared to any other combos and does take getting used to but it is worth perservering.
I have not found endurance to be a huge problem leveling him so far but I did take Stamina by level 20 (it really does help)
Cloak of Fear sounds like an uber power and in some ways it is but endurance wise its a glutton. I personally get by just using fearsome stare to lock down more dangerous enemies while I pick off the followers.
Also, there is a mentality in scrapping to attack the "biggest baddest boss" in the fight. DM/DA does not excel at this but it is unsurpassed in taking down whole swathes of minions and LTs faster than almost anything else in game.(useful for your XP that!)
I would also agree with the earlier post about checking out the DM/DA bible. Not sure how current it is now (around I7ish?) but even so its a superb guide that gives comprehensive reviews of the powers and a number of builds.
So there ya go, just a few observations of mine there that hopefully may prove useful for you. Either way can I finish by saying that I hope you have fun dealing the damage of the Dark!
Cheers -
I will probably be online at about that time. If you need a last person to make up the numbers give me a shout via the Forumites channel and I can log my level 16 D3.

Solstice blessings to one and all. May the Lord and the Lady shine their light upon you.

Lady Leprechaun is a level 24 Illusion/Storm Controller. I will be online about then so if you need me to make up numbers send me a tell. Alternatively give a shout on the Forumites channel.

Freedom Falcon,
I speak here as someone who teamed with you way back in yout "teen" levels and later on, was on a lowbie team that you tanked for when you were in your early 30s just to help out (you were not exemped and thus got XP yourself) Far from getting pwned I think you have tanking down to a fine art. -
Thanks Dead Calm.
I have got Accuracies in pretty much everyhing so thats not an issue.
As you rightly point out, the set has few real single target blasts so I may as well get most benefit out of the damage they do. I may drop the debuff from them when I get to the respec.
The tentacle advice is particulalry useful as I have not gotten to use the power yet to form my own opinion. I could put just one immob in it and replace the others with damage.
I am definitely planning fearsome stare but that will be totally slotted for maximum control with accuracy, 3 fear enhances and a recharge or 2.
Anyone else who wants to give advice, please do so! -
Howdy Doody all.
Can I pick the brains of the more experienced players here regarding slotting on my (PvE) D3 who is currently at level 13.
My aim when starting this character was to be a debuff/control monster, able to ruin the chances to hit of anything I encountered. I have worked out a build using sherksilver's planner and currently have a to hit debuff and 2 damage in Dark Blast and Gloom. Am I better off slotting purely for damage in those or is the the debuff a worthwhile slot?
Also Tentacles, I am currently planning to slot it for extra immobilisations. Should I instead slot it for damage?
On a similar note, sloting things like immob or fear increases. Do they just increase the magnitude of the hit or the duration of the effect? (or both even?)
All guidance. opinions gratly appreciated.
Thanks all. -
WOO HOO!
Just found this post now so sorry this is late and that I did not mention it on the TF last Saturday....
CONGO RATZ!!!!!!!! -
I AM NOT NOW WORKING SATURDAY!!!
Demon of Darkness will be there! -
My Fire/Fire Blaster is currently at level 16. Be aware that the ire/Fire mix is an aggro magent as most of the attacks are AoE. For what their worth these are my observations based on my own experince so far.
If you do get Rain of Fire I would advise you not get it until you ae well into your twenties. Its more of a liability than a help at the lower levels especuially if you are on team.
You will need a fair bit of end reduction in the powers at the early levels as it is an end heavy set. What it wuill be like when you have aslotted Stamina I don't know. You might then be able to respec out some of the end redux slots.
Some really useful advice I received recently is BE PATIENT. Wait until the team attack is underway and the tank/scrapper are well into the thick of things before you blast off. If the tank is good they will keep the aggro despite your attacks or hopefully your attacks will weakewn the bad guys and the scrappers will spalt em before they ge to retaliate on you. This onepiece of advice would have saved me MUCH debt if I had know it from the start of my blasting career. -
Damn! I don't believe this. I missed the last TF coz I had to help my folks. Since then I have been frantically levelling Demon of Darkness and Lady Leprechaun in readiness for the Citadel one.. I finally got DoD to level 25 last night and was halfway through typing my intent to be there when I realised.....
I am working that Saturday!!!!!
One of only a handful of times in the year I have to work a Saturday and they do it to me then!!!!!!
Oh, well..... Best of luck all of you for the 7th. Based on my own experience from the earlier ones I KNOW you will all have fun. -
Ok, this rocks.
My wife is away with work tonite so I have unrestricted access to the PC and dont have to wear the headphones either!
Who's gonna look out for the headmaster while we all smoke in the toilets?
He He He! -
The one I'm in is a real friendly and helpful one It's called Therapy.
They have a good base with all decent TP and medical facilities aswell as Salvage, Insp and enhancement storage.
They are not huge on SG missions/rids and stuff that I have experienced, but there is almost always a bunch of em online who are happy enuff to team up.
Drop me a tell n game if you want to give us a try. -

If it was frosty I would understand the need for more healersBut Atta is just a big green baby :P
All I could do was healing aura and heal other...Two buttons over..and over..and over again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you kidding me about Frosy being tougher than Atta? I managed to Solo Frostie with my Empathy'Psionic Defender (or should that be healer?)
As far as an empath being boring to play "pre buff" with "only two buttons" I have had some of my most frantic game play in those situations! I was racing around like a scalded jack rabbit trying to reach players whos health bars I could see going into the red.
Finally, if everything is under control and there is no healing actully needed in a fight (rare in most PUGs I concede!) then Empaths do have a secondary that can do bit of blasting.
I do feel that there is a particular attitude or mindset you need to relly enjoy the Defender AT and the Empath in particular. This boils down to the fact that they contribute "indirectly" to the fights in most cases.
I also think that those posters that diss on the Defenders/Healers are often those who cannot enjoy them or fail to appreciate their subtlety.
Still each to their own. We Champions of the AT will keep on bailing 'em out with nary a crumb of recognition for our eforts. LOL -
Thanks mate.
Lots of reasons to stick with a couple toons then instead of my usual altitis!
I have to get Demon of Darkness up from 23 to at least 25 and Lady l from 22 to the same levels. -
Thanks for all the useful comments there folks.
To be honest I think the build on the toon is a bit gimped and I need to respec him. Unfortuntely he is only level15 and so the respec is a LOOOONG way off. I was going to chuck him and re-do from start but that seemed a bit defeatist.
Luckily I have inf available and so I have kitted him ot in DOs a lot earlier than I normally would and he is at least "playable" now until I can get him to 24 and the Terra Volta respec trial.
Also, in response to Hawkblaze comment on Soloing. I dont think its a general Blaster thing as my Ice/Ice Blaster can solo fine with her various holds and slows. Also, before I deleted him my Assault Rifle/Electric was fine on his own (although lightning field was a bit of an aggro magnet!)
-
Glad everyone enjoyed and I'm sorry I had to miss it but I had to help my folks with some stuff at their house.
Just so I can try and get either demon of Darkness or Lady leprechun to the right level, what are the level ranges of Citadel's TF? -

The title pretty much says it all.
I am struggling with my fire blaster and considering redoing him from scratch. Looking at the powers, one I have no real knowledge of is combustion. What do folks out there reckon to it as a power? -
Ok, I realise that Blasters do a lot of damage and can draw a lot of aggro but ... my fire/fire blaster is currently attracting WAY too much heat!
My Ice/Ice Blaster gets a few problems but, with the various holds, she can usually fend off trouble till the rest of the team come to her aid.
My old Assault Rifle/Electric Blaster (before I deleted him) never seemed to have any trouble at all, anything that came at him usually got knocked away again by a well placed grenade.
I realise that the two fire sets are very AoE intensive as opposed to the single target style Ice/Ice or the more mixed bag of the Rifle. I also realise that Fire is supposed to be one of the higher damage sets. Both of these factors mean he is obviously going to draw more aggro than some others.
I knew darn well that soloing would be out of the question with him but I did expect him to be more survivable in teams
however, I just cannot find a play style for him to keep him alive. The only reliable one is teaming with an UBER Tank who can keep the aggro from me but they are few and far between.
So anyone got any advice on how to keep a Fire/Fire blaster from having his goose cooked? -
Midnight,
Unfortunately, I am going to have to withdraw from the TF next Saturday. Something has come up and I am not going to be able to log on that day.
I am sure that you will have no rouble filling my slot and I hope everyone enjoys the day. I look forward to the next one so i can get back together with the usual suspects. -
You are too kind.
I am very grateful to Stasis for choosing me and for those eho stumped up the Prizes but i think here were others there just as good as mine or better. -
Agreed Swissy.
I know that "technically" I spent last night in front of my PC but this morning it seems like it was the best Night Out I have had in ages.
Gratz one more time to Stasis, Cracking job by Fire Guardian and much respect to those who stumped up for the prizes in the Cossie Comps.
Events like that are why this game is THE UBER MMO!

So let me get this straight.
The general feeling is that Unthing is correct, I can happily slot my blast attacks with damage and still have kick butt debuffing going on as well? -
I think Max posted something about "time zoners". This made me check the original post. FG mentions 8 till midnite but.... not what timezone he's in. (I know he is usually in one all of his own but...) Can someone please confirm are we talking BST/GMT/EST or whatever?
I missed the last party coz of a calender mix up, I don't wanna miss this one coz of a clock mix up!!!
