After recently completing the Positron TF, for the first time, this little bit of humor had me laughing hysterically. We finished just under 4 hours and "that" was a stretch. If this were actually made possible I would bow down to any that received the badge. And it would not seem strange, to me, that the character seemed to twitch uncontrollably whenever the owner was asked about it.

Well, speaking as an RPer, farmers are not the only ones with multiple accounts. I have three. Also, I am an MMO veteran, not just a CoH veteran. Why is all this important, I'll get to that.
Every MMO I have ever played has a Eula and within that is always a clause dedicated to what should happen to a player if they use an exploit repeatedly instead of reporting it and letting it be. When developers get wind of these exploits they use data mining to look at the experience/monetary curve compared to what it looks like through the players that abuse the exploit. They then caution the player base that they will implement a "fix" or, as most players call it, a "nerf."
Also stated, or restated in most cases, is the policy to make adjustments to characters/accounts that continue to utilize said exploit since it is now found to be an exploit. The most recent example is not in CoH but WoW where people were abusing an error in programming where they could use two builds at the same time. Players went up in arms stating the "developers put it in the game therefore...yada yada yada." But that team did explain it was an exploit and acted quickly to remedy the situation.
My point is, exploits "are" exploits and "every" MMO development team act upon issues that allow players to gain experience and monetary compensation beyond the normal rate.
Do I think the badges should be removed? No. I agree they should be made easier to obtain. Will I give up my three accounts? No. I enjoy this game and the future that has been presented to me.
The solution to MA not being used as a farming tool is to simply go back to how you were doing it before, but do not be surprised if the developers change certain missions to include a timer once they discover that is the one being used. And if you think, for one minute, certain "up coming" hero MMO's won't do the same you are mistaken.
As my final point, I am an RPer. I play to progress my characters and their stories. I do not post on the forums often because I see a lot of hate whenever changes are made. Sometimes these posts are by RMTers, Trollers, even members of another development team trying to fan the flames. It happens and I'd rather not take part in the silly flame wars because I know half of the posts are not genuinely thought out, but merely put in place by people desperately wanting attention by crying "doom."
However, when I saw this post that slams RPers, the player base that is the least vocal on these forums (aside from the RP section and possibly Virtue) I finally decided to use my voice. I am a roleplayer (and a writer) and (like the books I write) enjoy watching my characters grow. Exploits are like turning to the last page of my books to see the ending. Yes, you know where everything is going, but what about the journey that you missed?
I have less than a dozen 50s (both red and blue) and I moved them there through normal casual gameplay over the last five years. When things get boring, same mission over and over climbing to 50, I use the character's story to liven things up. Whether its in my head or being the only one in the group RPing, I still manage to find a way to make the game interesting. After all, creating new characters, and new stories to go with them, is one of the main draws of this game.

Start Time: 1pm Pacific (4pm Eastern)

Thank you, everyone, for making this truly an interesting and "Fast" Task Force. The mix of OOC and IC dialogue was ingenious and well paced and I think that kept things really interesting. Again, thank you. Always a good run with you, Paladin. Tomorrow (May 19th) is my day off and I will be attempting to pull together a Positron Task Force. I want to get the "Bear" out of the way LOL.
And, of course, if there is any TF that anyone else needs help with, let me know. I do have a 45 Inv./SS tanker sitting around collecting dust *smile* -
Ok, Tomorrow night (May 18th) at 6:30pm Pacific I am asking for help forming one of the four primary Task Forces I still have yet to complete. Positron, Citadel, Sister Psych, or Numina. Since Positron is so massive (from what I have heard) I'm thinking of saving that for Tuesday (my day off) leaving the other three. I have only ever attempted Numina before and was interupted by a server crash (LOL.) I was thinking Citadel, but can change if there is demand to do one of the others.

I was debating writing a post very similar to this, but what can I say that you have not. You stated every point very well and concise. Bravo!
-
Phooey, this is one of the ones I need as well, but I'm not available until 6pm Pacific on Mondays. Good luck, though.
-
Ok, in response to the veyr helpful suggestions from Paladin here are my available times:
Sunday: After 6pm Pacific
Monday: After 6pm Pacific
Tuesday: Anytime
Wednesday: Anytime
Thursday-Saturdays: After 10pm Pacific (Probably not a good time for TFing LOL)
I appreciate all the help I have gotten so far. Synapse and Manticore are now both off the list and I enjoyed both plotlines immensely. I look forward to completing these and will help with anything any of you need help with, in kind. In addition to Lady Grim I also have a 45 Tanker (Inv/SS) and a 50 Blaster (Fire/Fire/Fire). Just let me know. -
I have put it off long enough. What, might you ask? Well, the primary task forces and Statesman's TF. I have tried Positron a few times, but the team falls apart every time. What I would dearly like to do is go through this unexplored content, but I need a team that won't fall to pieces partway, halfway, or even nearly all the way through.
For me this is about getting an accolade I never thought I would bother with, but I have a single Dedication character that is my primary badge seeker and the Accolade for accomplishing these feats has been steadily pulling me forward.
So, if you're willing to allow a lev50 exemp down (Scrappie BTW) send me a tell. And, yes, I'm not opposed to someone zipping to the end of certain mishies to speed up the time.
PST Lady Grimrose
And thanks, in advance. -
Okay, someone owes me some paper because I was going over my edits when I clicked that and now have coffee all over the pages.
Seriously, Everyone in the Literary Squad of Doom has just been sent this link and thank you for making our night. -
Bravo! Well done! Encore! Well scripted! It reminded me of the olden EQ promos. Off to try the arc, since I am now waxing nostalgia.

Arc Name: The Legacy of Grimrose
Arc ID: Part One (6753), Part Two (6877), Part Three (10112)
Faction: Heroic
Creator Global/Forum Name: @Grimrose
Difficulty Level: 40+
Synopsis: The Hidden Knights have vanished after losing one of their own and saving the world. Now, only War Witch and a Portal Corp. investigator, seems to remember the team ever existed. Can you help War Witch uncover this odd puzzle?
Estimated Time to Play: Arc One (20-45min), Arc Two (An Hour), Arc Three (75 min+))
Personal Note: The "Epic" is an honorarium to someone I lost, so please take that into consideration before marking it down for the length. You can play each arc as a separate story because each has its own conclusion. Other than that please enjoy and thank you for playing. If you catch any grammar issues please let me know. -
Arc Name: The Hidden Lament
Arc ID: 16381
Faction: Circle of Thorns, Custom
Creator Global/Forum Name: @Grimrose
Difficulty Level: Challenging, but soloable.
Synopsis: The Hidden Knights have driven back a dimensional threat, but after losing one of their own, they vanish. Now, only War Witch and a Portal Corp. investigator ever remember they existed.
Estimated Time to Play: One Hour (Three Missions)
This Arc is, by no means, finished being fleshed out, but it is the first part of an Epic I'm working on. Please be gentle with your feedback, I am writing a story to pay tribute to the creator of Grimrose (my best friend), who we lost to Leukemia a few years ago. -
Gave you 5 Stars just because you told a great story and used the MA for some nifty ideas. Once Everything goes live I'll 5 star it again, LOL. I figured out how to make a Non-Cut scene, of sorts. Once I perfect it I will let you know. Overall, though, great story and I'm keeping the Golden Feather as a souvenir. Hey, and thanks for letting me know about the Cut/Paste capability. That will help immensely.

*laughs* I loved that. Looking to the side I noticed a couple other gems, "Hey there Cthuhlu" and "It's the End of the Verse as We Know It" both had me in stitches. I wonder if he has a CD.

Another question about Mission Maps. There are a few missions that have more than one map. Example: In the Faultline Arcs you go through the sewer and then to an outdoor area where you have to blow up a sub to stop the Night Widow.
Will we be able to link maps like this? -
As a writer I tend to not make my characters the main focus of all the power in the cosmos. While I think such stories can be handled creatively (take Superman for example) I feel that it is a pure challenge and very hard to handle. That is not to say it cannot be done and I look forward to seeing the magnificent portraits painted by everyone supporting the MA. Judging by what I've delved through in the RP forums I can say there is quite a talented bunch here and there will be more than a few very well thought out "origin" pieces. I say bring them forth! Let us see the stories you want to weave! I truly look forward to Dark_Respite's for her vids show she has a knack for storytelling and pacing (a very hard thing to master believe it or not.)
Anyway, I'll have to wait for a hopeful beta invite or be in my "Gazebo of Eternal Meditation" whilst awaiting Open Beta. Either way I am eternally patient because I have my own deadlines to meet anyway. A beta invite would be my editor's worst nightmare, but she plays too and has been oddly silent this week. *nudges* Hmmm...this bares further investigation. -
All I have to say about his post is....Wow! Very analytical and very useful. Thank you, Knight, I created a BS/Shield day one, but have been building my Shield/Energy themed tank first. Adding this little one page guide to my faves. Maybe it can get perma added to the i13 guides by a mod. All-in-all 10 out of 10 for helpfulness.

Name: Hidden Knights (Heroside)/Lost Knights (Villainside)
Currently Recruiting: We are currently looking for active RPers to help establish an SG that will delve deep into a storyline that will come about with Player Generated Content somewhere down the line. Currently, we are seeking all levels of membership, both sides.
RP Level: RP-intense.
PvP Level: Casual
Theme/Concept: We are a group centered on the concept of creating a balance between heroes and villains. Our belief is that too much power, for either side, can have very negative affects. The one crucial aspect to remember is that loss of life is unacceptable except in extreme circumstances (saving someones life, a device or spell tied to a potential catastrophic eventetc.) Our backers, as well as our leaders, respect all life.
Activity: We are currently an afternoon/evening SG, predominantly PST.
Requirements for Membership: Must be active and RP in SG chat.
Leadership: Lady Xylentala (Heroside), Grimrose Reaverthorn (Villainside)
In-Game Contact(s): @Grimrose
Out-of-Game Contact(s): -None-
Coalition(s): -None-
Other Details: Since we are RP heavy we will not accept names that are made up of symbols, litespeak, or partial phrases. Examples: 123Heythere, PWNU, Fr33d0m, xxXRosexxx, IlikeBeer, etc. Please keep this in mind when applying. There are exceptions to the rule. Example: Ms. Liberty, Hero 1, etc. -
I have done the TF once and I doubt I will do it again. For the most part it is fun and doable, but with a Great group we spent and hour and a half with the last fight. Wipe after wipe. We finally managed to separate and pinpoint one Nictus at a time, but it is just too agrivating to go through it again. I really like the costume pieces, but the fun factor is not in that last fight. And for the record we plowed through the rest of the TF in record time. When Rommie finally took his curtain call there wasn't a member of my group that was pleased with the frustration involved. I say make the Nictus EBs and give Rommie a slow build self heal in addition to the heal Nictus, but unless something changes my one character that needed it has done it and I will be avoiding this TF like a few others out there.

On the legal issue...Blizzard successfully sued into oblivion several companies that were offering similar services in their game. It took them a while to test and develop solutions, but once implemented said solutions did work and continue to do so. There, we are talking about the MMO juggernaut with a huge staff and they took their time to implement corrective measure properly.
Here, we have a company that is very loyal to its playerbase. NCSoft is a much smaller company, but they are doing the same thing. Testing, before implementing. Why? Because coding is complex work and just slapping something in place could have severe issues that affect anything from enjoying immersion into the game (a problem already being caused by the spammers) to causing game (or worse server) crashes. Give the developers time and they will do what can be done to make these jerks have as difficult a time as ever.
Now, to add to the No E-mail for Trial Accounts I say also eliminate the ability to Trade and use Wentworths for said accounts. That will be a quick end to a lot of this. Everything will become unprofitable quickly. -
Now, I have read the article, and understand the logistics behind it all. It's not a bad idea to generate revenue, especially if they go after advertisers they know the audience will pay attention to. This opens up advertising opportunities for console video games, comics, movies, etc. targeted at the audience that plays CoH.
My main concern is I dropped an MMO that tried this horribly wrong, Dungeon Runners. Granted, I didn't want to pay the extra $5 a month to not see them, but if you even clicked on the screen while the ad was there you went directly to an offsite. I can't tell you quickly I dropped Dungeon Runners (even though it is free) because my computer got infested with spyware from some of those invasive sites. I'm all for ingame advertising, but please do NOT follow that model. -
All I know is i10 had me peaking back into the game and now i11 has me back as a full fledged CoX player. The Weapon Customization will be great. That silly generic broadsword they give scrappers is just boring to look at. Now, I'll not only be able to make a more stylish Broadsword scrapper, but I can change the weapon with different costumes. NICE!
The Flashback system I will be all over. I love content and storylines and this will allow me to go back and pick up those missing accomplishment badges. This issue can't come out soon enough! -
I watched as colors swirled through my vision, blinding me thoroughly. I could feel Lord Tiamatious' hand grasping my own. There was no doubt that our journey was not the normal for a portal. I felt rock under my feet again and I looked around to find a large cavern filled with crystalline. An amber glow filled the enormous room and after a time I realized I was looking at magma through the crystal.
"We should be incinerated," I proclaimed, "What is this place?"
"The Heart of the World," Tiamatious answered, "This is where we should have found the sleep dragons, but somehow thousands of dragons are missing. An ancient spell keeps the extreme heat to a minimum."
"Are they awake?"
"No. I would know if they were. They have been abducted. Undoubtedly, the Circle of Thorns has done something far worse than awaken Ladon's son. This does not bode well."
"Do you know what Ladoyeve wants with them?"
"Yes," Lord Tiamatious growled and it seemed to come from deep within the earth. I stepped back. "He intends to add their essence to his own. We have to stop him."
"But where do we start," I asked already forming an answer in my head.
"The Circle of Thorns!"
To be continued...
