Quote:I would consider 'being able to take a few steps' as a fundamental aspect of a character. It's not like this is a power that doesn't give you EVERY opportunity to avoid.
and any other values that defines each character as an individual,
The problem with much of this game is you can just stand there and slug it out until the enemy eventually just falls over, without much of any concern for your environment. The adds in the BAF help some, as does Nova Fist and other mechanics- you actually gotta pay a bit of attention (unlike what I do in many parts of the game, where I alt tab out while powers are animating! why do you think my post count is so high?)

Quote:Just to elaborate on that: They were given an even lower damage scale than Tankers, along with the highest damage cap (note: damage cap is not directly comparable between ATs!) due to the Fury mechanic. They were intended to raise their damage from even worse than Tankers to somewhere around that of Scrappers, long as they were able to maintain high levels of Fury.Brutes have a lower damage scale. Blasters can and do outdamage Brutes.
The somewhat recent change to Fury lowered the cap, in exchange for making it easier to maintain the Fury levels. -
Quote:The entire concept of a 'survive anything' seems to be the issue here. You shouldn't be able to survive anything in this game, because that defeats the entire point of everything in it. Extremely survivable? Sure. Infinitely survivable? No.I don't want a tanker built for survivability with a massively-expensive perfectly-engineered IOd-to-the-gills build and all the survival-focused incarnate abilities and crafted temporary powers ... to be defeated by a single power. Period.
If you can survive anything (not by skill or player ability, but via just doing the bare minimum standing there), you're definitely too powerful. -
Quote:Or, you could deal with many of those via tactics! Nova Fist you can easily deal with, same for the energy siphon and sequestering (sequestering is the easiest to overlook, IMO with all the animations I never noticed any warnings or even the circles).
but instead we are forced to resign ourselves to "That attack takes half your health," or "that attack leaves you with 1 HP," regardless of how well-planned your buffs are or how strategically you've built your character to not only withstand damage but perhaps also protect others (in the form of a support class- be it a tanker or buffer
Back in the STF, the Devs had already tried to do a similar thing, with Ghost Widow's mag 100 hold... (un)fortunately, they seemed to have underestimated the playerbase's ability to stack mez protection, as well as come up with other tricks (hence why sequestering is 50x as potent!).
Still can't comment on Keyes, no one runs it on Freedom and that's the only place I have 50s atm, even though it's far from the only server I play on (people form MoKeyes all the time on Virtue it would appear- I see it being broadcast in global as much as if not more than the other iTrials there!). -
Just a warning about VirtualBox... the snapshot functionality is a total train wreck. It has an extremely high probability of breaking in creative and annoying ways on you, often resulting in an unbootable image. Occasionally you can fix it yourself by digging into the XML files, but that's quite a messy afair. I'd recommend simply exporting a copy of the VM instead of using a snapshot... at least that doesn't have a high probability of trashing your VM!
Also, I tried Mids in VirtualBox about a year back, and it had all sorts of horrible rendering glitches, such as some text not showing up, as well as the various pop ups not actually appearing. Can't hurt to try it, it's possible it's improved since then... but don't get your hopes up. -
Quote:Any power that gives you a big flashing WARNING!!!!!! on your screen and many seconds to avoid it... I'd say sacrifices enough to enable it to do exceptional things. It adds a bit of spice to the boring old AV mix.A bit unrelated but..concerning cheating AV tricks. When I first fought protean in teh newish hero side arc, I was using my elec scrapper. I saw the drain warning come up..and though, well, Im elec, doesnt matter. But oh no, he sapped ALL my end. To me, that is cheating. Its not a special power..he is energy aura, using his drain. To an elec, it should do NOTHING.

Theft of Essence: Chance for +Endurance is also supposed to turn Dark Regeneration from an Endurance nightmare, to somewhat close to endurance neutral/an endurance boon.

The CoH Updater was retired a while back, you need to use the NCSoft Launcher now.

Quote:That sound you hear high in the sky...I imagine the server farms were localized at that time. But if the Euro servers ever experienced that oddball rollback, then on-hand character inventory very well could have been duped via transferring to market or e-mail storage.

A radio mission with a team that had started forming right before Virtue crashed, reformed once it was back up, and had just gotten to the last room when I got the message saying the servers had shut down.
I was just wanting to get to level 20, so I could start doing the WTFAnd I did!

Why on earth would you think they downgraded the servers? It's not like they could sell their current ones for any large sum of money... so 'downgrading' would result in losing money more likely than not! And, you really don't want to cut your capacity when you're expecting likely the largest sudden influx of players since the launch of the game!

It's been approximately 2 1/2 hours since they announced the emergency server maintenance and took down the servers.
Considering they just replaced a bunch of hardware this morning, it's really not all that shocking that something small would slip through and suddenly become big once it's live with thousands upon thousands of people (instead of dozens) hammering the servers. In a few days they should have all the kinks worked out and people will have completely forgotten about any issues, and with the beefier hardware the servers should be able to handle higher numbers of concurrent players, which'll definitely be necessary for Freedom (they seriously should have picked a name that wasn't already used by a server!). -
I for one applaud the Devs. This'll end all the angst about balance once and for all.
It's actually Freedom from Infernus_HadesWe're all just playing along

That's... often not a good idea. That can have quite the negative impact on many programs, and it'll break audio on devices with a fairly common audio chip. You shouldn't mess with those unless you know what you're messing with!

1.) If you just reactivated your account today, give it till tomorrow
2.) Contact support on the ncsoft.com website, telling them (that's what the red names apparently told us to do, since quite a number of us have run into that issue, including myself!) -
Unless the 'exploit' was a 'crash the server cluster' kind, probably not. And, for that, I'd imagine we'd not have 5 minutes (I kinda recall ones in the past where someone found some nasty bug and we didn't even get the 5 minute warning because it spread like wild fire).

Quote:The truth is that you guys were messing around with some nerf guns and someone had the bright idea of hiding in the server room, didn't they?Hi everyone,
We'd like to apologize for the short notice and the inconvenience caused by this downtime. We understand that this is far from ideal, and we would like to make it clear that we would not do this unless it were absolutely necessary. Unfortunately, I do not have any information to provide right now as regards how long this maintenance will last, but we will most definitely keep you updated.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, and again, our sincerest apologies.

Not sure about Freedom, but Virtue exploded right before as well (all zones). Apparently once it came back up, WW was giving errors.
Since apparently two servers had already crashed, it definitely warrants emergency maintenance. -
In the NCSoft Launcher, install COH SUBSCRIBER BETA. Once that's done installing (it'll take a while), you can just click 'Play Now' and login like usual (assuming it believe your account is active... it still thinks I'm unsubscribed, but that's a totally different issue!).

That's the problem with content in an MMO: When it's new, people have no idea how to do it and often fail many times at the start (unless it's just the same thing rehashed). But, once people figure out how, the knowledge spreads like wildfire, and then everyone can do it fairly easily.
You have to throw in actual new mechanics (like the stuff in the iTrials) to actually make it interesting... but, they need a lot more new mechanics to keep people on their toes. Even with many more, people will learn how to exploit (not in the cheat sense) the system making it as easy as possible.
