  1. I'mma drawin' aggro!

Okay, now that I've got that lame pun out of my system...

Seriously, other then Trapdoor (there is not profanity in the English language to cover my opinion of Trapdoor), the story arc was incredibly fun. I mean, I was practically bouncing in my chair in excitement when I finished it.

First off, I did the whole thing solo, with the exception of Trapdoor. (I fought him at +1, couldn't do it. Fought him at -1, couldn't do it. Finally, called in some outside assistance. Melee AT + massive enemy regen + poor visibility + minions that are CONSTANTLY being respawned... Yeah, not for me.)

So I was going through it solo, with a martial arts/regen scrapper. My favorite part had to be the end of the second to last mission. Honoree? Vanguard? FIVE Rikti portals? And me with about as much defense and damage resistance as a kitten.

What was I to do? Why, hit and run! I bounced around those mobs so much I must've made a Rikti monkey look tame. First I singled out the portals, then I dealt with the Rikti, all while trying to avoid the Honoree because the man could cleave off half my health with one hit.

Finally it gets down to just him and me, going at it with good old fisticuffs. I'm whittling him down with a bunch of high accuracy, but rather low damage attacks. He's tearing me apart with high damage, but low accuracy attacks. It basically came down to whether my healing powers would recharge before his next attack. And it kept coming down to that, again and again. But thanks to a fortunately timed crit, I brought him down.

I completed that mission without dying even ONCE. Again, with a character who is about as sturdy as jello. (Mind you, I DID die a lot on my first run. But I was contending with massive lag from the server status going red. My second run involved zero deaths.)

After that, I just breezed through the last mission, right until I got to Minos... Hehe... Minos. He managed to kill me. Once. I was trying to pace myself, expecting him to pull some sort of trick once his health got low. I was a little late on healing, though, and he killed me...

But I resurrected, fired off Moment of Glory to cover me as I switched my toggles back on, then tore into him like he was a steak.

...In short: Devs, you never cease to amaze me with the incredible story arcs you create. I appreciate all your hard work and I'd probably try to hug each of you if it wouldn't result in (probably) a dozen restraining orders.

That's correct. I tried to rush through the story arc to get my Alpha slot before the Sunday Rikti ship raid for just that reason. But then the server got packed and the lag got too bad for me to continue... I'm pretty much stuck running the non-planned-well-in-advance raids. If the server goes red, I'll be useless. Though I'm still solid on yellow.

...Back on topic, anyway. I'm not sure, so I'll go ahead and ask: Is the Hamidon red side guide still valid source of information? I'm working on leveling up my Brute and I'd like to know what to aim at.

Rikti raid? We met in RWZ2. ITF? We met in Cimerora. (Well, I'm assuming that was successful. I was lagging so bad at minimum graphics settings that I had no choice but to give up and log out...)

Pretty much every other team, from radio to AE to sewer to Ouroboros to anything met somewhere else. =|

As for COP... Well, at least you got the painful experience it promised, right? =P

I thought it was rather quotable. =D

And that's part of my point. That there are far more important things for the devs to be worrying about. (Or rather, just working on. Not much to worry about besides a down economy.)
  5. Someone should make an AE mission of a catgirl trying to get into Arachnos. It would be funny.

Which is a pretty solid idea, since you only have 1024 characters to work with. You'd be hard pressed to find more then that on an interior cover... Unless comic books have changed a lot recently.

Too short a time period. Twice I've been gone from CoH for about a year. Both times, I came back the moment I could. The first time, it was when I got a new computer. The second time, it was as soon as I got a new ISP.

I even paid for (some) of the time I knew I wouldn't have access to the game... Mostly because I expected a quick fix for the problem that never came...

    But still, five months? Nnnnno...

EDIT: Further more, that college course would have been over twenty years ago, possibly as far as thirty years ago. Big difference between that and five months.

Who is 'everyone'? Because I don't know of anyone that wants such a bland name as Ninja for their character. I've never heard a single person say they wanted it before and I, personally, would rather name my toon Lord Pumpkin Strudel.
  11. What does it say about me that I have no idea where Gemini Park is? Though I have the suspicion it's somewhere in Praetoria, I'm not willing to bet money on that.

And I continue to wonder when Studio 55 was added. Seems like I tend to play for two months then miss an entire year... Wait, what am I saying 'seems' for? That's what happened!

...Which makes me wonder if I'm an old player or not. Technically speaking, probably old. My account is a few years old, anyway. But I don't feel like an old player, since I haven't really played much. My Hero 1's cape, my main character is only level 48!

Wonderful job in double posting just to try and be funny.

Yes, I'm aware the analogy isn't perfect. But it has to at least be on par with the reserved Big Mac. Also, while I'm sure you're only taking it so literally to make the joke, just let me point out that two week notice in the analogy does not translate to two weeks in our situation. Neither does being gone for three years in our situation translate to three years in the analogy.

    It's not the best analogy.
I am aware. Note that I am (and have mentioned previously) in favor of names being revoked from inactive accounts. (I may have said 'purge' in a previous post, but I just mean I'm in favor of the idea in general. The details aren't for me to really consider.) I was only making the analogy to try to keep the view on the subject a little more fair.

He might be back today for one, so we're holding it for him. That one there is for a customer we had last month, and this one is reserved for a customer we had two years ago."
That's a poor way of putting it. Access to a name in an MMO is sort of like owning or renting a house. The whole burgers on reserve thing makes it sound ridiculous, rather than just annoying or, depending on perspective, stupid.

So to put it a different way, imagine a house. A nice place to live, close to where you work, in a pretty good neighborhood. You'd like to rent it and move in as soon as possible, but the owner refuses. When you ask why, they tell you that, while the current resident hasn't paid his rent in months, the owner can't kick him out without any warning, even if you have the money for the first three months in cash.

To take the metaphor further, the owner may be required to give the current resident a warning of, say, two weeks to move out before the resident comes home to find their junk on the front lawn.

Pocket D is a horrible place to visit if you want an actual peaceful RP session. I've never once gone in there without someone testing my patience... Which actually makes it a great place to go if your intention is to test your patience.

Lord knows that the occasional bad pick up group is a lot easier to handle after one bad evening in there.
  15. For me, I just... I don't like to just tell people a character's personality. Not if I can help it, anyway. That's why the letter for her daughter struck me as such a good idea.

First, it gives some insight into the character's life: She fights a lot of Rikti, spends far too much time out in the War Zone and clearly has at least a small obsession with them. (Really, she can't leave fighting the Rikti for a week to spend time with her kid? Vanguard exists for a reason!)

It also lets you know that she has a daughter and doesn't see her daughter very often. It's also supposed to imply that she's torn between being a good mother (being there for her child) and being a good super hero (fighting off a major threat.)

And it gives a bit of her personality. She takes the fight seriously, has a tendency to be somber when really thinking about it... Especially since she's a Regen who still worries about dying and leaving her daughter alone.

Though, with recent character development, I've been thinking of rewriting it. Her brother has come back and can watch out for her daughter while she's gone. Her daughter has started working as a super hero, too, proving that she's capable of taking care of herself. The character in question is still likely to worry about missing out on, y'know, being a parent, but isn't as likely to worry about her daughter being in serious danger without her around.

...Note to self: Do not post at 1am. I ramble too much.

Closest I've come to giving a character a theme song is closer to "If they had an iPod, this is what they'd be listening to while busting Skulls." ...Which probably counts, but it's less about having a theme song and more about JRPGs having trained me to expect music when punching stuff...
  17. ...I'm pretty sure my bios say "This player is either very lazy or very easily distracted by shiny things." What with the majority of them being blank. Every time I log in with the intention of writing them out, well... I get distracted by the shiny. "Ooh, Frostlings! More defeat badges!"

Though my main has a bio I'm fairly proud of. It's not the usual brief history of the character, since... Her history is pretty bland. What does she look like? Exactly what she looks like. What are her powers? Exactly what /info will tell you. They aren't secret and they're rather obvious.

So I went with a different route: Her bio is a letter written from her to her daughter. A 'If I don't come back' type of thing, since her background is that she spends... pretty much every available moment fighting Rikti. In the warzone. Often times alone.

It's slightly improvised. I wrote it all in one sitting, not thinking too much about making it 'right' so much as what the character would write. After finishing it, I noticed I went slightly over the character limit, so the letter was abruptly cut off. I kept it that way after someone I was playing with brought it up and mentioned something positive about doing that. (I forget what exactly they said.)

    ...And I'm rambling.
  18. As a recent returner myself, let me say "Welcome back."

And you can join the Vanglorian Federation, if you'd like. Just contact @Broken Key in game some time. I've been spending a lot of time playing lately.

And it's a good thing it's not the Cold War, because if that's the case my country would probably be doomed. =P

Ah, yeah. Vanglorian Federation. (Despite my tendency to misspell it, for some incomprehensible reason.)

It's not the removal itself that worries me. It's not having contact with him and not knowing the circumstances that worries me. Not knowing is worse then the situation itself.
